Hi! North Carolina Dem here. Glad to meet you all in cyber space. I’m from the Raleigh area where LOTS of Bushies live! Makes one wonder…. what the hell has happened. I get flipped the bird just by sporting my bumper stickers. Not really a classy crowd.
Hey to both of you. Welcome to this wonderful site to be a party of. I think this place will grow to be one of the best places online. It has been hot here where I am and expecting rain every day till next wed. I did finally get my grass mowed between the rains. Whew!!!!!!!!!!!
My son was in the military at Cherry point so that gave me a chance to see N. Caolina. I love the ocean side of the state. Still considering retiring there around Moorehead city. Just do not know just yet. Have driven though Atlanta…What a huge city!!!!! Whew!
I live in a small town in the NW corner of TN just 16 miles from the Big Muddy. I am a nurse here and I do hemodialysis in the Acute setting. Actually I am it except for twice a month when I get someone from Memphis to relieve me so I can have w/e off. It has been 2 years since I took a vacation…and boy do I need one….bs
Anyhow, welcome and hope you have a great time here at the frog pond.
Thanks for the welcome. I am a social worker/therapist working with postpartum moms. Yea, a vacation would be nice. What is going on in ya’ll’s states to wake up the Republican Bush folks? Hey songbh, Nice to hear you have a 3 yr. old. They are really cool. I love what I am doing…my patients do get to talk about birth trauma and the support group is a wonderful place for new moms. Just knowing one is not alone in their feelings and knowing one is NOT crazy is comforting to say the least.
I have actually had 5 children. Started young….then went back to college after their babyhood. When I say I have had 5 children, I think I am nuts, but they are neat kids and have all nearly grown up. I never planned on having a big family, just married a couple of times and well…I finally figured it out! On a side note: I worry about the draft. That scares the hell out of me. Not my kids for this crazy situation.
Take care. I like the name you have.
I didnt mean to put off song and what she does. I never suffered from that problem, but my daughter did. It took lots of love to see her through it too. She and her husband lost their last child with trisomy 18 and I thought she would not ever get over that. You have to be admired for the work you do…I praise you very much, Hon.
Liberty blond, If I knew I would certainly tell you. But I think before this is over and done with, there will be a lot of democrats and republicans awakening from their slumber to smell the coffee, so to speek. Actually I am from Illinois but moved to TN back in the latter 80’s.
I am the TN rep. for the Vietnam Womens foundation. I am active in veterans affairs when I have time to be….which is very little at the present, sorry to say.
Good to meet you all here at the frog pond..I really like this place…
Tell me about the Viet Nam Women’s assoc. That sounds interesting. What do you do exactly? It must be good work. And thank you. It is nice to meet you too.
back in the middle 80’s two nurses decided that it was time for the women of the vietnam ear, mostly nurses to get honored for their service…There are 8 womens names on the Wall, btw. One nurse left the efforts and Diane Carlson Evans continued onward for this effort. I was asked by a very good friend to represent TN. She was this district director. I had just moved down to TN from Illinois and I had not one clue about the state. Well, I did find out about this state by doing the job for the project. Interesting, isn’t it that I had such an unusual way of finding out about this state. I want you to know, tho, I really worked hard for this project, for it was something I believed in. I met such wonderful ppl doing this in so many ways. When we dedicated, there were so many ppl there. Some of them were trying to find someone who they served with or took care of them while In-country and it was a wonderful sight to behond. Tears shed like rivers and smiles were always there no matter what the instance. Crystal Gale [hope I spelled her name right] sang our song for us. Harry Connic sang a patriotic song and the VP at the time, Al Gore, gave a reading and small speach to us. Many of the retired and active military was there. Oh I could go on forever on the things that happened and that which I learned. It was something that I will never forget for all my life. The congressional process and the fine arts committee…it was all so very educational on how things work in our country. Anyhow, thanks for your interest. And again welcome to the frog pond.
I have to admit I wished I could type better. I keep forgetting about the spell check here. I try to type without looking at the keys and that sometimes leads me to make severe mistakes. I do apologize to you all. Now a correction must be made, after reading all that has been written here. We dedicated our memorial in 93 instead of 92…now see there, after watching the keys while typing I can do better…:o)
Yup, we’re in Davidson, and love it — the small town, the college, it’s a wonderful combination. Only problem is we may never be able to afford to buy a house in this town — prices are crazy and getting worse.
Jumping from your post downthread — besides the 3yo, I also have a 15yo stepson who is with us full-time. And the prospect of a military draft is heavy on my heart. So I hear you.
OMG, I do hear you! let us know if there is anything you want to say about this. Hugs….I threatened my son if he ever thought about going back in, I would be very angry. He was thinking of doing this. I have already lost one child and I do not intend to loose another one. At least not for this crazy war anyhow.
Lucky …. I live in Mount Holly, just to the west of Charlotte, NC. I’m deep in red country here, but since I was born and raised in West Michigan, I’m actually prepared to deal with these type of people. In fact, in a lot of ways, it’s a lot easier here than it was back in Michigan. Goes to show, as Jeff Foxworthy has pointed out, rednecks are everywhere.
Hello Second nature! I live in Cary. Nice to meet you! I used to kind of lurk on Dailykos and enjoyed it, but I really like the Booman better. It seems more comfortable. have you seen Walter Jones on TV or the web? A Republican…and he is calling for withdrawal!!! I suppose I should send him a hooray. It is a positive sign when even some of these guys start trying to focus on truth. Evidently, he was moved by the deaths of so many. Wish it had a little sooner.
Anyway, nice to meet you.
we can assume he is outraged by the deaths therefore calling for withdrawl. Ihope we are correct in this assumption. Or does he have to be re-elected? maybe both..who knows..I just applaude him for this and hope he gets it done..no matter what his politics is.
Oh, you poor thing!! One of my best friends is grew up in Lynchburg (she and her family live in Vegas now…since ’94), I lived in Blacksburg for 8 years from ’83-’91 (Go HOKIES!!) and in NoVa (Fairfax) from ’79-’83, so I can “talk VA” with you if you like!!
— why are you in Lynchburg if I may ask? Should I ask? 😉
Click on my UID and you’ll find diaries that detail the transition. But, to give you a brief summary: My husband works for a large tech support company and we did live in the north suburbs of Atlanta. The contract there is coming to an end and it looked like he would be laid off. Instead, he got transferred to a contract here. I’ve been here a month and I love the mountain views and farmlands, the clean air, clean water and farm fresh produce only 10 minutes away. Once our house in GA sells, we plan on buying a farm, or land on which to develop a farm, where we will grow organic produce, pasture-fed chickens and maybe a milk cow or two.
I know there are progressives here but I just haven’t met them yet. We’re currently in an apt. surrounded by Liberty College students. Yaarg! Guess I should go down to the newly opened local Democratic Party Chapter office and volunteer…
Oh!! Geographically, I think that area is one of the most beautiful places in the country, don’t get me wrong!! And the farm will be wonderful — I want to come and visit!!
I do so miss the mountains….they were one of the big reasons, I stayed in to do my masters in Blacksbug and wanted to live there forever…alas. When I left Blacksburg, I went to Japan, where I lived very near to the Japanese Alps…been in Texas too long, I do so miss the mountains.
Is Austin, Texas “Southern US”?? Hell if I know — not a native but been here 8 years…3 years before that in Kingville (about on the same latitude as Orlando, FLA…)….just thought I’d pop in and say “howdy”!
Hey, remember our “messy office” discussion from the thread on the Patriot Act? Well, guess what — it’s tomorrow now! I’m going to get in there with my timer and see how much I can pitch out in 15 minutes. What are you going to do?
OMG!! We ARE twins!! Before I started the new loads, I had to go through the ‘sitting baskets” too!! Do you also do the “redry with new wet” for the wrinkled stuff or do you actually iron? You’re a better person than I if the latter! 😉
Still working on the laundry and my husband and I are trying to figure out what these little worms we have are in the litchen and laundry room….we are both getting an icky feeling from them, but so far, we haven’t figured out exactly what they are…they look like mini-maggots.
Ummm… I don’t do either of those things, I just fold stuff whenever and we all wear wrinkled clothes.
My 3yo saw a toy iron at someone’s house a while back and had no idea what it was or how to play with it. I think I’ve ironed maybe three shirts since he was born.
I’ll have to remember your trick for de-wrinkling stuff, for those worst-case-scenario situations!
Welcome TX…Jump right on in on the lilly pad for our section of the pond. Ribbit away…:o) Have lots of fun and enjoy your being around other frogs of the liking…:o)
Well, hello everyone! I hope we all can get to know one another, as we share. So far, I like it here; it feels good and welcoming. I just finished watching the video of the awful hearing of the Patriot act. Stunning! Just absolutely stunning. Our Democracy is in trouble; I fear. I have typed my ass off (ok?) to the media, representatives, and friends to help stand up and ask the truth be heard for our precious country which has been hijacked. Sorry I sound negative, but it IS the end of the day here and who knows if the Downing ST.Mins. will get the attention they need. I am pulling for truth.
I hope we all talk together really Soon!
Hey, there are several of us from Austin, and we discussed ways to use this thread today when we met at the Texas Chili Parlor to finalize plans for the Bloggers Caucus we are hosting at DemFest, http://kosatdemfest.blogspot.com/.
Is there a chance that a Boomer is near north AL – Huntsville? Not as “red” and redneck as most would think. Most people in this town moved here from around the world because of the military base and space program.
But yeah this state has a horrible image problem (Roy Moore); But we arn’t all like him and his followers.
Welcome Oyburger!
I am from NC…we all know now that there is a lot of blue in these red attitude states! I have never been to your state, but someday i would like to visit all the south!
Glad to meet you.
Glad to meet you too. I have family in NC and my Native American ancestors are from the Smokey Mountains. I’ve been there many times and love it.
A word to the wise if you’re going to go to AL stay in the big cities -Huntsville and Birmingham and for goodness sake don’t come between May and September. The heat and humidity are horrible!
Really?! I live in Huntsville and while yes you do see some racism inside the city – I’ve never seen anything like that. In fact I can’t recal seeing what I consider a race crime reported in the local news (of course there may be a different reason for that other then they arn’t happening)
Of course, the white murderers had killed the young black male victim before hanging him in an oak downtown.
Guess that made it better.
Unbelievable. While living there I often said that Mobile is lovely, the seafood is out of this world, so many people are generous and gracious, and the city’s just entering the 20th century. I wonder if it’s changed?
I couldn’t tell you. I usually pass through there on the way to FL every couple of years. We never stop. I went on a class trip there once in 4th grade but that’s about the extent of my personal knowledge of Mobile.
Hi Everybody. My first post here at Booman. I like this setup by regions. If people do not live in the South, they may not understand how difficult it is to be a liberal and Democrat.
I live in a deeply red area of Chattanooga. On election day, my friends and I stood out in the rain in front of the precint building with our Kerry signs, people I knew for many years would not even look my way or acknowledge us. We would say to each other ” if they look our way, then we must exist” so , therefore; if they don’t see us well, we don’t exist.
That day changed me, I am not about to feel guilty for my beliefs. My beliefs are respectful and moral, to hell with the freepers. I am out of the closet Democrat and will keep speaking up as long as I live here.
The other day, my friend and I opened up the http://hamdems.org blog. Chattanooga is getting its act together and lots of folks are coming out of the closet.
Oh well, love this site.
Check back soon
Hi Sandy, I am from the other end of our great state. Dyersburg. Good to hear from you and welcome out of the closet. I suppose I should actually jon inthe conversation by saying I am independent, but had to join the party in which to vote here. So suppose that made me out of the closet too…:o) I remain independent to this day in many things and that includes politics, saying this means that the dems do not have to come and get me for voting with them in/on issues. I am so glad you ahve joined us here for we are a great growing community and I am sure you will love it as much as I have/am. We all welcome your views on things and issues. Just join right on in…
Hi Sandy,
I live in NC.
I am spending far too much time on my computer looking for the real news! The good thing is that i get to check in on this great website everyday.
Welcome!
Checking in from New Orleans, Louisiana. My second post here on booman tribune. I’m a refugee from Dailykos.
I’ve been considering starting a progressive website for Louisiana, and I love the software on this site. Can someone refer me to information on the use of this software? Thanks.
There is been little or no information in the press – especially the California press about the energy bill. This Bushco Bill is looking at allowing off-shore continental shelf drilling – overriding a Bush I executive order in 1990. This was a Senator Graham (FL) amendment that was defeated yesterday.
This was cross posted in the West open thread also…
Contact your senators…for me it’s California – their links are in the West regional thread.
Hi, am from a neighboring state, TN. I happen to agree with you on that one!…:o) Why in Gods name did your state of elect him? He is such a crook…anyhow, welcome to this site.
Hollow Bubba, oops, I mean Haley Barbour, got elected by a rather small margin. He did it with money from out of state – all his R friends from the old days at RNC. The SurveyUSA poll done about a month ago shows his approval rating at %37. He is a mush-mouth Washington fat-cat, but the good folks of Mississippi saw fit to elect the yahoo from Yazoo.
I guess I could throw one back at ya and say….FRIST????
You sure can! I think I got your gov beat 100% Frist can be thrown in the can as far as I am concerned. He is such a sham. To think he wants to run for prez! Good heavnes, what a joke…he really is not as good a surgeon either, from what I have heard.
HOw are y ou all taking the conviction of the KKK memeber down there? It is such a same that it had to be such a long time in coming tho.
In my opinion, justice cannot be done in this case. Killen has lived out most of his natural life without being held accountable. I hope that he is denied bond during appeals so that he will have to be incarcerated for the rest of his life, however short that time may be.
As for what the rest of the folks around here are saying, I have heard a few of the most awful comments you could imagine, but most of the white supremacists are holding their tongues. I saw a non-scientific web poll on one of our local TV stations that had a 67 – 33 split in support of the conviction. That 33 percent of any poll would be against the conviction is so sad it makes me sick.
I do believe that this conviction makes some of us, including me, feel a tiny bit better. At least we have done this now. I am afraid, however, that in some cases it will lead to even more apathetic responses from whites about the ongoing problems presented by racism. Sadly, many of the folks down here do not understand that it takes more than forty years of de jure equality to undo four hundred years of continuing de facto inequality.
As for Frist’s surgical abilities, I hear he’s good at dissecting fraudulently obtained kittens. Of course, this shouldn’t surprise anyone, as it is usually the case with abusive people and serial murderers that they started with animals first. I don’t think even Trent Lott is that low (and that’s already lower than a snake’s belly).
Thank you for the welcome! I have been over posting in the Cafe since yesterday, when I found my way back to the Trib. I disappeared from these parts for a while, but now I’m back and I’m so glad – sure have missed the place!
so very glad to have you back with us. found you by skimming the diaries today. I have been quite busy and can only drop in every now and then. Anyhow good to have you with us again..BTW, good to meet you.
Using the I am a Canadian commercial I loved as a guide I wrote one for myself. My way of doing something positive instead of venting anymore. It could use some work, but it’s late.
Howdy, I’m not stupid or a racist.
I don’t have an outhouse, a pickup truck or a pair of overalls.
My name’s not Bubba or Daisy Duke
And I thought the Dukes of Hazzard was a terrible show.
I say y’all and howdy and ain’t.
I like grits and catfish and sweet tea.
And I know more people who’ve eaten squirrel than who haven’t.
I think porches make for good neighbors.
I believe minimum wage should be a livable wage
and that people shouldn’t have to choose between rent and medicine.
I think the government should not regulate religion
and religion should not regulate the government.
And seniors ought to never want for food, medicine or friends.

Hey Liblaz…good to have you onboard with us here. Love what you wrote. stick around and join us in our rheteric here at the pond. select a lilypad and join right on in.
Thanks Brenda. I had posted in the old South thread once when I first joined and then forgotten about it. I’m going to aim to be more sociable even if I come off a little stalkerish. 😀

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A city council candidate dropped out of the race Friday after it was disclosed that he posted comments to a white supremacist Internet bulletin board more than 4,000 times.
Any guesses for which political party he belongs to?
to y’all. Deadline for comments to powers that be, August 15. We learned decades ago that Mr. Peabody’s Coal Train was Hauling It Away. Still is. Here’s what they do with the rest of it.
Had to join just so I could post here: I LOVE the fact that this is “segregated” by region…If only because it gives me the opportunity to brag on this fact:
Since 1868 when I graduated from high school in Fairhope, Alabama, I’ve lived in Columbus, MS, Opelika, Atlanta, Tampa, Montgomery, Kernersville, NC, Orlando,Greenville, SC,Miami,FL, Kernersville, NC, Winston-Salem, NC, Alpharetta, Roswell, and Marietta, GA, and finally back to Fairhope, and now Mobile. In that order. And although I’ve never lived in Tennessee, one of my two sons does. The other is in Birmingham.
Which brings me to the more immediate point of this posting. The recent article by Larry Johnson is incredibly useful to me since I’d just last week led the Vigil for Cindy in Mobile, and 44 or so showed up – considered a BIG turnout here –sad, huh?–and the local tv crew filmed us – I spoke on camera about how afraid people were to speak the truth, and that we weren’t being told the truth by our media – I think he cut that part out — (since I don’t watch tv I really don’t know) but the next day they ran two stories about mothers of soldiers who were horrified that we read the names of their sons in the vigil (we read the names of the 33 who have died in the war thus far, including the two mentioned in Johnson’s story)
So, with your permission I’m going to forward Johnson’s story on to the same news source and see what they do with that one.
Thanks. I’m so glad to see this story (and booman is great!) here. I’m trying to start something similar in my area but it’s slow to take off.
Hi, I live in Tennessee. Welcome. feel free to join us in discussion on the main board. There are lots to join in with and we need everyones input to get the word out.
Am glad you came here and always feel free to come and ask over on the main board any questions you might have.
Hey Boo…the frog pond is so great. Love what you have done with it. Hugs from Tennessee.
Hugs back from Hotlanta!

We dedicated our memorial in 93 instead of 92…now see there, after watching the keys while typing I can do better…:o)
near Charlotte. I live in a very liberal little college town flanked by very Red suburbs and rural areas.
Take those middle fingers as a compliment, I say! Who’d want approval from folks who act like that??
Stopping by to say hey to you awl…from a Westie..but I did go to school for one year in Charlotte many, many years ago.
Would that be near Davidson? I grew up partly in Salisbury. Now that is a bit RED! My early childhood was Southern Pines..beautiful sandhill country.
No purer case of white flight has ever been seen.
Hey Liberty blond…I’m here in Raleigh, too. I have four kids, all grown or nearly so. The draft scares the hell out of me too.
Oh dear…..is there anything we can say or do for you? I appreciate your anxiety there.
To spit on parked cars with “W” stickers.
Eventually, I’m going to get in a fight over it. 🙂
Any chance there’s a Boomer near me?
Welcome…I hope you can find some Va folks on this site! We can still be neighbors!!
Let me know when you find the progressives! 😉
welcome, VA. Been through your town a few times going to DC. Good to have you here.
Is Austin, Texas “Southern US”?? Hell if I know — not a native but been here 8 years…3 years before that in Kingville (about on the same latitude as Orlando, FLA…)….just thought I’d pop in and say “howdy”!
if only to get you to hang out here with us!
Hey, remember our “messy office” discussion from the thread on the Patriot Act? Well, guess what — it’s tomorrow now! I’m going to get in there with my timer and see how much I can pitch out in 15 minutes. What are you going to do?
Erm, well — I am taking a break from laundry at the moment. Have gone through 4 loads and there’s one in the washer and one in the dryer….
On my next break, I’ll do the timer for 15 minutes and get back to you (what a grand idea, btw!!)
I am steadfastly ignoring the four loads of it sitting in baskets on my bedroom floor. Guess it won’t fold itself.
OK, I’ll alternate 15-minutes stints of laundry and office-rescue. I’m off!
I do too {hope the attention to the DSM}. It seems that this week will be the telling of it all.
you are a southern girl. Get yourself a chair and stay awhile!
Hey, there are several of us from Austin, and we discussed ways to use this thread today when we met at the Texas Chili Parlor to finalize plans for the Bloggers Caucus we are hosting at DemFest, http://kosatdemfest.blogspot.com/.
Please join us if you feel you would enjoy some liberal company. Our group Blog is http://austinkossacks.blogspot.com/
We hope to have a picnic in July, and to meet with other Texas groups of progressive Bloggers in the fall when the weather turns.
Again, welcome TX…Thanks for joining us here and making this the best spot in the pond. Pleased to meet you.
Is there a chance that a Boomer is near north AL – Huntsville? Not as “red” and redneck as most would think. Most people in this town moved here from around the world because of the military base and space program.
But yeah this state has a horrible image problem (Roy Moore); But we arn’t all like him and his followers.
Oh I know that. We here want to say welcome and jump right on in with everything this site has to offer.
I have not got any doubt that you are in a horrible position, ref, Moore, and that we all have our problems with those like that.
All that being said, welcome and good to have you here with us.
Thanks for the welcome 🙂
Welcome Oyburger!
I am from NC…we all know now that there is a lot of blue in these red attitude states! I have never been to your state, but someday i would like to visit all the south!
Glad to meet you.
Glad to meet you too. I have family in NC and my Native American ancestors are from the Smokey Mountains. I’ve been there many times and love it.
A word to the wise if you’re going to go to AL stay in the big cities -Huntsville and Birmingham and for goodness sake don’t come between May and September. The heat and humidity are horrible!
and by big cities I mean “big cities”. I’ve been to many different places in the US and Europe -these are by no means big cities in the real sense.
Lived here in mid-eighties (20th century). Still lynching black men in trees downtown at that time. I remember.
But that’s just one memory.
I went on a class trip there once in 4th grade but that’s about the extent of my personal knowledge of Mobile.
from Chattanooga
Sandy on Signal
Welcome!
Hi,
Checking in from New Orleans, Louisiana. My second post here on booman tribune. I’m a refugee from Dailykos.
I’ve been considering starting a progressive website for Louisiana, and I love the software on this site. Can someone refer me to information on the use of this software? Thanks.
might I suggest you contact booman, himself for that one.
Follow-up to SusanHu’s diary yesterday… http://www.boomantribune.com/story/2005/6/21/171341/919
We have the worst governor in the U.S.A.
…from the Gulf Coast of Texas!
Good to hear from someone over yonder. I’ve always liked the Gulf Coasters from Texas that I’ve met. Welcome aboard.
a big hollar back at ya…welcome and do step right up and start talking with us. Good to ahve you here..
mosey on over to the cafe’ and introduce yourself there.
AP has a new article up regarding the fundraising efforts of Tom DeLay and our challenger Nick Lampson. Link is here.

And I’m very familiar with the original! Well done!
I want to say a personal welcome to you lonestar. Glad you selected here to post. WELCOME
