Hey Booman…I have a suggestion. IMHO any diary that is an action type diary for just that particular day could be taken down once the day is over. It would leave room for other diaries? Just a thought.
unrecommend diaries that are dated/timely. Gotta love Catnip…She put up a diary just to tell people to unrecommend her old diary that had been living on the board for days, just rotting.
yeah, wasn’t that the greatest?
What’s near where you live?
Me Jealous…If I could I would put up a picture of the Diner down the street…I think it was the one used in American Grafitti. I like yours better…where do you live? looks like an old mission in PR, France..ok..i give…where?
It’s the mission in San Juan Capistrano, CA (where the swallows come back to every year). If you are ever in the area and have a chance to visit, you definitely should. It contains the oldest building in the state, and it’s this amazing oasis of old California architecture and peaceful gardens right in the middle of San Juan. I actually live in Dana Point (right up the road), but I couldn’t find a decent picture of the beach that wasn’t huge. I didn’t want Diane to yell at me.
Where are you and your diner?
LA CA..A pic of my backyard would be better…put in a waterfall and jacuzzi last year with lots of tropical trees and stuff…if is like hawaii back there…I have a friend that has a beach house in Dana Point…down on the beach right near a train track..inbetween the beach and the train track. it is beautiful there.
I give up. Where is it?
Just Kidding! It is the Pulgas Water Temple off of Canad Road in Woodside, CA. It is part of the reservoir system here. I’m about 5 miles from there.
Here is a more mundane picture of an intersection near me.
God that brings me back!
You could kind of see it off 280, the scenic route into S.F.
…lotsa weddings there.
Yes, they’ve just started having weddings again apparently, after a long break. It takes me back too — as teenagers we were always looking for places to sneak off and get high, and all those little “rest stops” along 280 were just the thing. Funny I wouldn’t go near them at night now, The world seems so much meaner since those days of the late 70’s.
280 opened in the Seventies. That’s how I am acquainted with it. Are you a Boomer? Because they were having weddings there in the late Seventies and through the Eighties.
In fact, you can see part of it during the chase scene in Steve McQueen’s Bullitt. 280, that is.
Yeah, I only live about 1.5 miles from there…
Sure, there are plenty of other landmarks I could have posted, but this is my favorite building in the District. Besides, I used to work there.
What is it?
Washington National Cathedral. A gorgeous building, and built in true medieval style — it took 90 years to complete.
That’s what I thought – I’ve been there! When I was about 13, my family went to DC for a visit and since we’re Episcopalians and suckers for stained glass, we stopped by. I remember it was gorgeous. I haven’t been back to DC in a while, and I think most of the tourist attractions there are only worth doing once or twice, but I’d definitely go back to the Cathedral.
Thanks!
10 points to anyone who knows where it is.
I’m going to take a wild guess and say Chicago? Don’t recognize the tower at all, but the buildings in the background remind me of Chicago.

i was thinking Manilla before it occurred to me to check that :-p
10 points to you!
One of those little remnants of roadside Americana, this was the Twin Teepees Restaurant on Aurora Avenue (the former US Highway 99, now State Route 99) near Green Lake in Seattle, Washington. I live about twelve blocks from where this used to be.
Sadly, it burned several years ago and the owners decided not to rebuild. It really is too bad; it was one of the few places in the city my father-in-law (a meat-and-potatoes kinda guy from Idaho) had found where he liked to eat. They had some great pot roast.
This shot is probably a bit more recognizable:
I hung this across the street from a rally in downtown Charleston, SC.
Excellent. How long did it stay up?
about one hour…
tee-he
is great. I’m trying to spend a lot of time there..can’t do a lot of posting as I am certainly not up on anything that is going on over there and have to do much more reading there so make myself half way knowledgeable. But am finding all the diaries great and learning anything is always a fascinating endeavor.
Thanks again Booman for this great idea and to Jerome and everyone for making Eurotrib great so far and I imagine that it will only get better.
The Poor Man is finally back up after his recent bandwidth debacle, and he’s in fine form:
You’re so on, Poor Man. Go give him some turkee, if you like.
back in a week or so.
Peace.
Anyone interested in the war on terror(ism), and what I see at the main problem with our approach to it; as well as a plea to seize the frame from the Republicans?
The terror frame is wrong and it’s time we correct our adversaries.

Progressive Christian Fight Back
http://tinyurl.com/dj3e3
Seeing as how I’m not a christian I can’t very well join this new organization but it’s about time progressive Christians took back the true meaning of Jesus’s teaching and are going to counteract the religious rights ideas in the public forum. Maybe now when some religious right whacko gets on the air to spew their twisted ‘religious’ beliefs the media(hopefully) will do their job and have on someone of the Christian Left(so to speak) for opposing viewpoint.
Progressive Christians believe in equality for gays, women’s right to choose, all the issues that are antithical to the righties.
I hope by the time the next elections come around this new organization has become known and can be used to help fight the likes of Dobson run politicians and all their ilk.
Thanks…as I’ve probably mentioned I’m really really computer illiterate and need all the help I can get as to how do any kinds of links etc.
Here I am with the artist of the BooFrog at my old house (before I ripped out the wood paneling and painted).
Is this really you???? If it is I thought I would never see the day after asking you so many times.
for a moment there i thought you were describing the action in the photograph.
Or were you?
same evening?
No, I just went a laid down sometime in the middle of the night.
Anybody there that I should look up? I know that there’s a dearth of people of color out there, but I like people, period. Would like to meet some Tribunes, former Kossacks, women, yadda, yadda.
Things going nuts around here…tossing out stuff. Computers going whacky and needing repair. Etc. Moving is money.
