I like collections. I like lists of collections. I like collections of lists.
Okay. I just confused myself – which is a very easy thing to do, believe me.
Anyway, I see that a lot of Tribbers, Boo-sters, BTers or whatever you choose to call yourselves, have personal blogs. So, in the spirit of collecting a list of as many of them as possible, I thought I’d ask you to provide a link to your blog and a brief description of its focus. Many of you include the links in your sig lines, but I’m kind of lazy when it comes to following sig line links, so I thought I’d make you do the work by posting them here.
A further example of my laziness is the fact that I don’t even know if these have already been collected and listed somewhere on the site, so please tell me if this is a redundant effort. If not, perhaps we (and by “we” I mean Booman) could set up a link from the FAQ page or somewhere else (perhaps the blog roll) to this list?
Thanks!
I have one coming soon on how to cope with being poor. I’ll let you know when it’s launched.
you became Rich from starting a blog about “how to cope with being poor”?
Give money to the poor.
I think it was a recent article in the Chronicle of Philanthropy that had results of a national survey (sorry, Catnip, US again, but I do think this would likely be true in Canada as well.) about who gave what. Wealthy people gave more money, of course, than any other group.
But poor people gave a much bigger percentage of their income than any other group!
I can’t speak for anybody else, but when you’re used to being poor, stuff doesn’t mean a heck of a lot. So, if I ever did increase my income, the extra money wouldn’t go towards any luxuries. I’m not a materialistic person.
http://www.freecycle.org
Freecycle is an email list where people give away things locally that they no longer need for free.
My whole life is leased – car, computers, mobiles etc etc. That way I can be a little bit materialistic without the guilt π
The things I own are things which mean something to me – books, objects/mementoes, Bilnås furniture, ideas. My one great weakness is obscure tasteless shirts.
I’m a member. π
We all have a weakness. I’m a book hound, but I almost never pay retail unless something’s on sale. I get mine at thrift stores, yard sales etc.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen Bilnas furniture. Do you have a link or pic?
Billnås looks like 1880s wild west furniture designed by Scandinavians – big old rolltop desks, chairs, rollfront cupboards – all in oak. The moving men always get hernias when I relocate.
Here’s a bit of history – http://www.boknas.fi/eng/history.htm
Very nice!
Yeah, sure. Catnip is going to be in one of those higher tax brackets soon because of blogging. I’m laughing – my friend who blog think the idea is funny.
Seriously, I think a lot of people would be interested, in the same way that “Nickled and Dimed in America” got a lot of interest. (In your case, Catnip, that would be Canada, of course.)
I’m also writing a book. That might have been what he was referring to.
Excellent! I was thinking of doing booklets and things like this at one time, especially for how to be newly poor, like after a divorce or illness or something. Many people have no clue what to do (I know I didn’t), and thus go through way more pain than they need to.
Make sure you announce when it’s ready.
Yes, there are many nouveau poor who have no idea what’s out there for them.
There was a great book in the early 70’s called ‘How to Live on Nothing’. It was full of simple recipes/tips on stuff you could make yourself.
I gave my copy to someone who needed it more.
There was a wonderful cookbook called “A Cookbook for Poor Poets and Others” by Ann Rogers that helped my husband and I eat much better during our no-money years. And we’re still using our much abused copy decades later.
Not seen it – but in Finland the poets all seem quite well-heeled to me – what with grants and literature prizes etc. Poetry sells well and two well known poets are regulars on TV.
We are great readers – in fact I think the Finns read more books in a year than any other nation. You’d think it would be only in the dark winters, but as we retire for the summer to our little cottages, there’s nothing nicer than to lie in a hammock and read.
The real way to make money at the booklet thing is to write one of those little books that are sold at the checkouts in groceries. I’d bet a lot of people would buy a book on how to live if you are suddenly poor (people in long term poverty know these things, or else they don’t live too long!). I dont’ know, though, I think the stores want “chirpy”, positive bookettes.
Hadn’t thought of the stores, but I think I know which little booklets you mean. And yes, I think the stores want more things like “How Astrology Can Change Your Life” or something, and certainly nothing to remind anyone of how much money they don’t have.
I’d not gotten very far on the planning anyway though, although I may still do something like that a bit down the road.
I posted this once before on the other place. How to keep cheap artificial corks from sticking in your bottle of cheap sweet wine:
Plumbers’ Teflon tape.
I’ll look for your blog because we expect to spend the last 1/3 of our lives needing such support.
I have enough ego problems already, without having my own blog, thank you very much…
lol
I’m sure if you had a blog it would be very successful. Just think – you could flog autographed 8x10s too!
I thought about blogging about bowel movements but then I thought things are just too shitty already.
Eww!
can’t write much now, as i’m at work :::glancing around::: but i really hope that everyone lists their blogs! i would love to make some visits to them!! thanks a bunch catnip! i look foward to seeing yours soon!
Good for you starting a blog, good place to keep articles you have written and other things.
In case anyone does not know e blogger has a feature called blog this, which is a tab added to your toolbar and allows you when you see an article you want to save just highlight what you want to save, click blog this, and then you can either publish to your blog or save as draft to your blog. Very easy to use.
Google blog this to get the download..
So my blog would be my tag line below, btw.
Thanks so much for the tip. Anything that makes the process easier is great to hear about.
Yes I have a blog without a theme.
Right now, I use it as a graveyard for my obscure diaries,
or practice for a future diary. But later, I hope to
organize it into little painting exhibitions.

Catnip, yours is a great idea. Poverty is going to be a
“growth industry.” The increasing price of oil will trigger
inflation and raise the cost of living at the most basic levels.
I have sort of a blog, at The Progressive Focus Center but it’s set up to be a progressive community/think tank/action center focused on local, national and international strategic planning and issues, using blogs as a sort of CMS, I guess. Also setting up a research/reference center there with Liberal Palooza which will be open in a week or so. All this is still in the process, though many of the areas are open now.
Plus, I have an international magazine, all volunteer, that I’ve had for a few years, Human Beams (needs updating, I know, but we’re doing stuff in the background… writers are welcome!) that we are moving into the same sort of blog/cms format connecting it to the center mentioned above, hopefully to be done this weekend. The main focus there is international politics, human rights, building a just society, environmental issues, A&E, reviews and of course food ;).
/is it still shameless self promotion when you are asked?
You sure are busy! That’s inspiring.
Thanks! But not as busy as I should be, because I procrastinate a lot. I blame the frog. The new one, though, not the totem frog.
Plus, of course, I have help.
If it wasn’t for a friend who takes care of the web work, and just loves evil alphabet things like HTML and PHP and details, and various writers and editors who’ve joined in from time to time, I’d be a lot less busy π
teacherken
occasionally I post things there I do not post elsewhere
but there are things I post at dailykos and/or here that I don’t post there
There is something called Sirocco (I know, very original). Focus? Nah. I’m against that.
It’s http://www.vicardoodle.blogspot.com/. Vicar is my title – I’m an Episcopal priest and I use the blog and it’s offspring (VicarDoodle Sermons) to post sermons, write about peace and anything else that bubbles up. While I read lots of political blogs, I don’t want to become one but I don’t think you can be a person of faith and be disinterested in politics. If justice is love in action then we have a mandate to work for justice. So visit VicarDoodle for a little bit of that – and a picture of my dog Max!
VicarDoodle – great name! π
yeah like snickerdoodle
but with a vicar
heehee
Ummmm, a little embarrassed because most times it’s been a copy/paste from others postings, but once in a while I put in an original thought.
I created my blog originally to help me to understand the right wing thought process from my family and friends. These are what I consider to be very intelligent people who have opinions I respect still to this day — but I do not know why they are conservative/Republican. Basically they just don’t talk politics with me, and I don’t force it.
I think they just don’t give it as much thought as I, though they all know I’m a liberal.
If you ever do figure out the right-wing thought process, please let us know. π
lol, good point.
Now that I think about it, I remember what prompted me to start it (specifically). I was sent an email intended to be a joke, about some frivolous lawsuits John Edwards had supposedly filed. I sent the person back links dispensing the rumor, and decided to invite anyone that was remotely interested in politics to post their thoughts on my newly created blog, rather than bringing people into the wildness of DailyKos.
Not many takers — and that’s a shame, because I try to be cautious of living in the left wing echo chamber. But I can barely tolerate RedState.org, and the others can’t even carry through a complete thought (from what I’ve seen).
“An old soul… and come on by in order to see the rest of the quote.
Education policy, CA state politics, issues affecting children, and I used to blog a bit about chocolate and knitting but I’ve been so busy I really can’t keep up with my main interests that the other stuff fell by the wayside.
Yes, I have one at:
http://turthalion.blogspot.com
I cover my on-going efforts to build a MAME cabinet, talk about my interactive fiction writing, and generally rant. I also post/link a few of the satirical pieces I’ve written for BBspot.
Michael Coyne
But I’ve been offered the opportunity to post at Greenstate (coming soon). You’ll know when ’cause I’ll cross-post here.
I very rarely make time to post there beyond occasional bits of extreme snark when some moron, usually but not exclusively Republican, comes out with something that REALLY torques me and I feel the need to publish a line or two of insult for the public record. I’m not sure, I think I’ve had perhaps three or four readers in several months and probably no repeats. On the other paw since it rarely says anything worth noting I can’t really complain about that; heck, I wouldn’t read it either. It’s kind of the equivalent of walking down the street at two in the morning muttering “Delay is a freakin’ MORON!” — it doesn’t accomplish squat, nobody notices, but I feel just a little bit better afterwards.
Kite Tales
My blog focuses almost entirely on state and local issues. So if you’re from New York or specifically central New York, come on down!
I don’t know why more people don’t do blogs on their local scene… <shrug>
I’ve been meaning to ask… are you the one that writes about the lake?
I occasionally write about Onondaga Lake and Haudenosaunee land rights issues as they affect the lake.
I am not good with initials, but I sort of thought you were the same one.
I’m know you also write about other stuff but I read a couple of your well written articles about the lake and the Onondaga Nation some months ago, and for some reason that just stuck with me.
I have one here:
http://blogomni.blogspot.com/
It is omniblog, where I comment on politics and current events. ‘Cause we need another political/current events blog, right?
A bunch of nice folks indulge me at Liberal Street Fighter and unbossed, but I don’t have one of my very own. I enjoy being part of collaborative blogs.
I have a fairly new blog at http://mintandchocolate.blogspot.com
I do not believe I could place a particular ‘focus’ to it as of yet. The premise is essentially that I hate the combination of mint and chocolate, but openness to new ideas/people is something I want to strive for. Hence a blog named after something I despise.
I do have a blog and I’m not sure why. But it does give me a place to put all the writing I do on spiritual topics that are important to me. I think, sometimes, I must just like the sound of my own words. . . LOL
Or. . .once I started speaking out about every thing I just can’t shut up.
Click the link at the end of my sig line. . .made it easy for your all. Or go to Matters of Spirit.blogspot.com. Thanks for the resources everyone, and thanks Catnip for letting us all be blog whores.

Sure – self-aggrandisement is a particular passion of mine:
It’s technically not a blog – it’s yer basic, website and like any good site it’s always under construction because I never get enough time with it.
But I have hopes…
A private email list for the arts, mostly inactive now. It was the first ever for its market more than a decade ago.
I do indeed.
Schweitzer for President is a site dedicated to drafting Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer into the 2008 Presidential race — or at the very least significantly raising his national profile.
Come on over and check us out!
Yep. Been blogging for almost two years, now.
redonion
I’ve been blogging less and less these day. Correspondingly, I’ve become more active in local issues.
The plan is to start a progressive La. web site along the lines of this blog, and deal with primarily local issues.
Not trying to preach or anything, but remember, all politics is local.
My husband and I have one, but it’s kind of lame. It’s primarily for our own amusement, although I periodically direct my parents to it. It has pictues, some political stuff and a few book reviews (hopefully a new one this weekend).
Sadly, I haven’t kept up with my favorite feature, Snake Handler Sunday. I’ve been really busy at work for the past month and usually just want to relax when I get home (struggling with Oracle will do that to you!).
Anyway, here’s the link.
Love the name. π
No.
It’s too hard to think of things to write about.
