“Washington, Jul 05, 2005 – The state of Arizona broke the mold in May by becoming the first state to join ‘America Supports You’, the Defense Department’s program that highlights Americans’ efforts to support the troops.
“Now Arizona is again making news, this time by broadcasting the Pentagon Channel, a military news and information TV channel, over the public airwaves,” reports Defenselink News. “John Keegan, mayor of Peoria, Ariz., is spearheading the efforts to broadcast the Pentagon Channel statewide on cable TV.”
Find out if you can get the Pentagon Channel.
on which state will be the last to offer the Pentagon station?
I think Dish Network and/or DirecTV also have the Pentagon Channel as part of their basic line-up.
I’ve looked for it but haven’t seen in on DISH. The Pentagon channel Web site doesn’t list DISH as a provider for my area… only Wave cable. I’ll have to look some more.
I wrote a diary at DKos back in February, HERE. Act for Change ran an online petition against it, so maybe DISH decided not to add the channel.
Here is the text of the online petition:
Under U.S. law, the federal government is banned from producing propaganda aimed at influencing the American people. The Pentagon Channel is 100 percent controlled by the Department of Defense and will beam highly produced daily news programs promoting the interests of the Pentagon and paid for by U.S. tax payers into millions of American homes.
Few will now dispute that the Pentagon propagated unsubstantiated and ultimately false stories about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction to provide the public with a case for preemptive war.
Propaganda like the Pentagon Channel is not in the public interest. In fact, it threatens the very foundations of democracy which depend on an independent and informed citizenry. I urge you to drop the Pentagon Channel from your lineup of public interest programming now.
