Did I miss the sport news on the European Baseball Championships?
The Dutch are looking forward to final
Defending champion The Netherlands shot off French defense and ensured participation in the final game, probably against Italy. The Italian team was 0:1 behind Spain for a long time, but they won 7:1 at the end. To take a final, they need just to beat home Czechs now.
The Netherlands continued their reign as European Baseball Champions by defeating their eternal rivals from Italy: 15-0 in a game shortened to seven innings. Dutch coach and ex-professional short-stop in the majors, Robert Eenhoorn saw his team overcome a difficult 3rd inning and use its power hitting to gain the 19th European Championship.
Robert Eenhoorn Stats
The victory was very sweet, as their rivals Italy wasn’t given any chance in this one-sided game. The Dutch needed to revenge themselves for a poor showing at the world stage of the Athens Olympic Games.
Star pitcher Patrick Beljaards came in as reliever in the third inning, when Italy had the bases loaded and two out. Patrick struck out the batter to finish the inning and never got into trouble during the rest of the game.
In the 5th inning, team Orange scored five runs with a timely double by Evert-Jan ‘t Hoen, clearing the bases. In the 6th it was the bat of Sidney de Jong with a grandslam-homerun. Ivanon Coffie hit his eigth homerun of the European championship in the 6th inning, making certain the ten run margin rule ended the game after the Italians failed also in their last at bat to score a single run.

HELSINKI (Reuters) July 17, 2005 — Indonesia and Aceh rebels will sign a truce on Aug. 15 after agreeing today a formula for ending the 30-year-old conflict that has cost 12,000 lives in the province devastated by last December’s tsunami.
Jakarta and the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) initialed a deal on how to disarm the guerrillas, withdraw Indonesian troops, monitor a ceasefire and reintegrate the rebels socially and politically. It will be formally signed in Helsinki next month.
“It is a historic moment, we finally reach a peaceful settlement that has been longed for so many years by the people of Aceh and by the people of Indonesia,” Indonesian Information Minister Sofyan Djalil was quoted at the talks in Finland. “Society can live peacefully and we can rebuild Aceh after it has been destroyed by the tsunami.”
In the devoutly Muslim province of 4 million people on the northern tip of the island of Sumatra, which has long history of revolt against Jakarta and Dutch colonial rule, there was little patience with the political details of the talks.

Don’t have any good news, but I have a question to more close observers of the US scene: Whatever came off the ethics charges against the Bug Man? Did he wiggle out, or is it all still pending?
but, my smallest (to be 2 in August), took his little pottyout of the closet today all on his own and sat on it — saying “potty”.
For those of you who have made the transition out of diapers with your own kids (aw, hell, even those of you who have done it without children..er, that would be all of us, I’m assuming), this is kind of a big deal….
When your smallest is graduating from college, this day will seem like it was only yesterday.
Yes, just like when he came, when his older bother came…just yesterday, or maybe the day before!
Thanks!
because half the battle is getting them to go anywhere near the potty! good luck!
Yes! but he HATES, HATES! his potty — he absolutely LOVES the regular potty, especially when someone else (his big brither mostly) is using it — I think the little kid potty insults him somehow!
We’ll see. his big brother has been showing him all kinds of stuff, from flushing to toilet paper! 😉
so the kid won’t fall through. only bad thing about it kids probably would need some help. my daughter was 3 and a half before she would go on the potty. i had her going for a while and then something happened and she refused! i knew she could hold it! she would run around the house naked and then come up and want a diaper… then she would go in the diaper!!
it got to the point where i refused to put a diaper on her! i told her she could pee all over the house, i didn’t care! she was NOT getting a diaper. and much to my surprise, she walked over to her potty, sat down, and went. and that was that!
one thing i learned for sure… though my sisters had told me already… pull ups are a waste of money! they don’t work. but you probably already knew that.
Yep, his little one actually comes apart and becomes one of those! 😉
Pull-ups are silly — the whole point is that the kid has to FEEL being wet/poopy — that’s why it’s taking longer and longer to potty-train kids these days, hey, if they’re all wet, but they don’t feel it, what motivation do they have to not go in their pants!?
I was potty trained by the time I was 18 months. My mom used cloth diapers though, so there ya go! 😉
Hincapie wins his first stage victory and Armstrong pretty much puts it away for #7. The man and the team are amazing! Barring a major crash or other mishap, there’s little likelihood of anybody catching him…history in the making folks…enjoy it!

I even bought some Mexican Hat Coneflowers to put around a bend in the stream.
Very local news, but good stuff for dry lands. Grass be gone!
