My local weather read 107.1 an hour ago. Isn’t that supposed to be a radio station?
I am doing my best to “adapt” as Bush suggested, but morale is low.
Ice cream is on sale.
What, do you live in Hell? Or Vegas maybe?
No. It’s embarrassing … I live northwest of Seattle, on the Strait of Juan De Fuca. I’ve been on the East Coast in the summer and know how horrible it can get. We never get that kind of heat.
It’s been weird here, as well (Hudson River Valley). Not too hot — a few days of mid-nineties, mostly mid-eighties — but the humidity has been off the freakin’ charts. Dew points consistently in the 70s. Absolutely goddamned awful, in other words.
It’s supposed to break, tonight, and leave us with low 80s and dry all weekend.
I can’t wait.
–at 105F with hundreds of people dressed in those 8-yard heavy wool kilts and quarter-inch-thick wool stockings. Afterwards in the car, the wind increased the heat rather than the cooling. If we hadn’t had air conditioning, I think we’d all have passed out.
We had a spell of about 100F one year when chartering a small cruising sailboat in western Lake Erie. The two of us sailed from Cedar Point all the way to N. Pelee Island Canada under a jury-rigged tarp, buck naked. By now there are probably scores of laws against crossing the border that way in the other direction.
The hour we shut the door on our moving truck to leave Columbus Ohio for Puget Sound, it was 97F at jungle humidity.
But on balance, the hay fever I have in those parts is even worse than the extreme heat.
means!
and reading it wrong – 70 is your temp and somebody else has the 107!
Colorado, believe it or not! This should not be happening…
The Russian Olive trees are wilting.
That’s good. They’re exotic weeds and should be exterminated.
Stamp out those non-native species!! 🙂
I’m hot. It’s in the 70’s here. (Ha! I know!)
My neighbor moved away — for Army officer training, sigh — but he didn’t cancel his WSJ subscription. I just picked it up off the front lawn, and see this:
“In Re Judge Roberts: Question Of ‘Originalism’ Looms Large”
I don’t care how many cum laudes this guy got, that’s just dumb.
Mediocre at best. 🙂
they announced it today, which means the official start date was Monday. For the declaration, the dew point has to be at 54 degrees for three consecutive days.
I can hear the thunder outside as I speak. We have had alot of that but little rain, which is bad for the wildfire situation.
What about setting up an IRC channel? That might be a good way of throwing ideas off each other, as well as for small talk, and getting to know each other..
Do you know how to do this, Deano? If so, it’d be great if you set it up. I haven’t been to an IRC chat room in years, but am game…. I suppose there’s a shareware app out there for Mac users?
Hmm.. I MAY be able to.. but I haven’t be an IRC user in like 3 or 4 years. Basically, one goes to a certain IRC network and asks “admins” if they can create a “chanserv” so that someone has control over the specific chat room. It isn’t that complicated, but I’d bet there is someone more qualified than myself to do it.
No idea about Macs.
But I do think it would be great if we had a BooTrib room setup.
Just let me know and I can set one up. I have oper privileges on fdfnet.
I was just gonna shoot susan an e-mail.. I’ll get back to you. Thanks!
Just let me know.
I prefer the html realtime chats pioneered in Finland
Or am I missing a joke I probably ought to be getting?
I don’t know about the origins of Internet Relay Chat – though I used a system called ‘Telmo’ around 1992 which enabled realtime text chat. The Telmo system preceded the Mosaic browser.
Html chat was originally programmed mid 90’s by Antti Westerberg, then an 18 year old Finn who had already done the first programming for downloading ringtones for mobiles. He went on to work closely with the pioneering mobile operators in Finland.
Does anyone know anything about this group. It is what the Scotus nominee’s wife is really involved in. check out the website here. It seems pretty scary.
The main page has “Voices of Women Who Mourn,” which leads to a page with this: “If you or someone you love has experienced the personal tragedy of abortion and you are looking for help, please click on the links below for more information.”
I think that pretty well sums up where Mrs. SCOTUS-Nominee is. And probably Mr. as well.
I am wondering if this early nomination was not a big miscalculation. They wanted to deflect from Treasongate and Rove, but the press didn’t bite. Now, the nominee is out there, twisting in the wind for several weeks before hearings open, which gives people far more time than they might otherwise have had to suss him out and if necessary mount a strong opposition.
How goes it with you?
Yesterday it was 105 in the freakin’ shade!!! Northern Calif. I drove down and got some Chinese food.
Kung Pao Beef
Szechuan Chicken
Pork Frid Rice
Ckn Chow Mein
Eggplant w/ Garlic Spicy Sauce
& Sweet & Sour Pork
Man… Chinese food in the states kinda sucks. But we didn’t heat up the house by cooking.
Tonight I have sworn I’d makde Lumpia (eggrolls sorta) and already I’m grouchy hot just thinking about making em. LOL
Was supposed to thunderchunder hear, got nothing. But that’s okay because the strikes could mean forest fires (I live right up against a national forest)
So all is going okie dokie.
Was finally able to put some thought into a post as it’s been a long, busy week.
Soon, I’m gonna fire up the blender and pretend it’s Friday.
I just polished of some Singapore Chow Mei Fun.
Yummy!
visiting our store and making a purchase to help the site.
Absolutely- but one question
The women’s shirt mentions “fringe”. What exactly is that?
It has navy blue piping on the collar and sleeves. I think that is what it means.
Wait- it looks like just trim. Now I can put my Grizzly Adams fears aside and order!
Yum! Takeout food! Think I’ll swing by the Thai restaurant and get some spring rolls before dance practice.
I feel like watching, reading, hearing the news is making me agitated and more radicalized and don’t know that it’s a good thing.
It’s going in Del Mar where the surf meets the turf. Racing season started yesterday. Brings alot of weird people to the area. Weather is gorgeous today for the first time in weeks. June Gloom hung around for the first part of this month too. Nice and cool, around 75 right now with a nice ocean breeze. Come on down and cool off!
Where the surf meets the turf
ha! I haven’t heard that in years.
–old San Diego denizen
Where are you now Lil?
San Francisco. Spent 1963-68 and 71-2 in Coronado (Navy brat, 73-80 in different parts of San Diego. My brother lived in Del Mar and I spent a lot of time there. I may be visiting San Diego this Thanksgiving.
Me too- Leucadia! (none of that Encinitas stuff TYVM)Many long tears ago though.
I just opened an email from the ALA urging us to call our Reps about keeping sunset provisions in the Patriot Act. I can’t tell from Web news reports whether the House actually voted on it yet, or not. It looks like not.
about Andrea Mitchell being “manhandled” by a huge Nubian. Can’t wait to see the tape.
But, mainly, I’ve been very depressed about Roberts spending the next 25+ years on the Supreme Court. They’ve done it; the radical reichwing has done it — they’re taking over all branches of our government and there’s not a damn thing the Democratic leadership — or any of us — can do about it. Well, we could go down kicking and screaming but, hey, Reid says Roberts is a “nice guy” so that tactic is blown to hell.
I want a new party
One that won’t make me sick…
Nice guys finish last, you know.
I understand if you’re having a beer with him His Nibs is a nice guy too, but I’d love to see him frog-marched.
This hot:
A tip of the Stetson to All Hat No Cattle.
Shaken baby’ convictions quashed, BBC
from this morning is going to be influecing Olbermann’s piece, coming up.
Sounds like it.
COME ON, KEITH! Tell us.
Might it be like this?
Charlie Rose asked the Bloomberg reporter the other night if he had a leaker close to the investigation, and he said yes.
said TS, not just S.
And it said NF, for don’t share with friendly foreign agencies.
She was deep NOC.
Just as he went to commercial, he said news coming on Valerie Plame case “breaking as we speak.”
Wonder what it is.
Well, poo. Nothing yet. Maybe I misheard. Wouldn’t be the first time today.
haven’t seen the guy over at KOS in over a week
I was wondering if anybody here knows anything
This is HUGE folks. Memo that was on Air Force One was labeled not only with an s next to Valerie’s name but the memo itself was clearly labeled TOP SECRET. Can you spell treason? Also Joe Wilson will be on Countdown tomorrow night!
