I only skimmed the NYTs this morning. It is like eating gruel. Boring.
These are the page one things that you would know on Friday morning, if your entire world-news view was shaped by the NYT front page. A failed second bombing attack on the London Underground. NY subways initiate random baggage checks to the dismay of civil rights groups. China allows limited fluctuation of its currency. Roberts opinions show him to be very conservative jurist. Rove and Libby e-mailed each other about Wilson damage control at the time of leaks.
It all seems blurry and out of context. None of the smart people at Booman or Kos to give it shape. I am sure the NYTs articles are good – just boring.
Time for a weekend off. I’ll still skim the papers, but I am going into the world of near news-blackout. Becoming one of the ill-informed. I can almost feel the critical thinking brain cells melting away. Need to find distractions.
Relax and be happy – we’ll all be here when you get back.
I think you’ve nailed why so many people are so ill-informed. As you pointed out yesterday, Joe, the interactivity of this and other blogs is so much more engaging than a flat sheet of paper. And yet, I still find the newspaper much easier to read than blog posts. Maybe it’s a generational thing.
Also the Times writers often use more formal language than people are used to. Local news tends to have a folksier delivery. Are you reading only the Times? I’m curious about local vs N.Y. Times readers’ perceptions.
I just thought of something about your news/blog blackout and only reading NYT’s…that must mean you also can’t watch the Daily Show?…now that’s more brain cells slipping away if not getting the Daily Show’s take on the news.
And it does seem as if bush’s nominee hasn’t bumped Rovergate off the pages but is expanding -yahoo!
Have a good weekend and don’t lose to many brain cells-can we do stem cell transplants to add back brain cells?
