This is not directed at Susan, but it happened to rise to the surface after I saw this here and at Kos. Not trying to be a killjoy or anything, but sometimes, the rant, it has to happen.

I don’t care who diddles whom. As long as it is consensual and between adults, I don’t consider it any of my damned business. Sure, Repubs who preach family values cheat. So do suburban folks who preach family values, and everyone else, for crying out loud. People cheat. It’s not a happy situation, but it happens.
I’m damned pissed every time someone drags out a politician’s sex life to claim they are unfit for office. Once again, if it is consensual and between adults, it doesn’t matter. The health of said politician’s marriage isn’t something I feel obligated to worry about. I think we should spending our time on things of substance.
These stories almost remind me of an old Gallagher routine about politics. He does a mighty fine imitation of said politician, on stage with his lovely sycophantic wife, and rosy polished children. This is held up a reason why he is fit to hold office. I agree with Gallagher’s interpretation; “Oh, good. His dick works. So?”
Can these stories be amusing? Sure. “Fair”? Sure. But if we do this, we can’t scream about Repubs dragging Dem’s private lives in to the forefront, now can we?

There is no way that Rove’s wife is a liberal and that punch line invalidates Kos’ whole story to me. If she were a liberal, she would have divorced him years ago or smothered him with a pillow while he slept on the night of 11/3/04… or as soon as she had the chance. I think the very suggestion that Rove has a girlfriend on the side is just a cover for his Jimmy/Jeff problem.

It wouldn’t be the first time that stories of a man’s “pipe-laying abilities” w/ a woman (or mere appearances w/ a woman) was used as cover for being gay.
I know it’s not right, but hear me out. This Rove fucker would’ve pounced on any information like this if it had to do with whoever he was smearing that week. THIS is the type of information that gets the slumbering masses to wake up from their flouridated-induced coma and say “Wha..?” THIS is what gets the MSM to start giving REAL coverage to issues. I realize that this info could have come out any time before now, and is coming out now solely becasue of the hot water Rove currently finds himself in… but DAMN, this is good for us.

The Republicans had nothing substantive against Clinton, so they used his sexual misadventures as a flimsy pretence for impeachment.
Karl Rove, on the other hand, appears to have broken several federal laws and may even be guilty of treason.
Bringing up the man’s private life is like using a rock to kill an elephant when you’ve got a fully loaded elephant gun.
The Republicans play dirty–well, they have to because they can’t win on the issues.
Democrats don’t need to play dirty–they can win without that. So why win “dirty” when you can win “clean”?
The goopers have to resort to these types of tactics because as you said, the facts are on our side.
But Rove’s already going down. On the facts.
And the sad truth is, this is what gets people to pay attention. Disgusting, yes absolutely. But if people cared as much as they should, then all of BushCo would have gone down long ago. And if this little tidbit will prick open their ears long enough to hear the whole story, then, sadly, I am all for that.

I don’t share your scorn for morality nor decency–nor do I associate them with weakness of character or cowardice.
However, if you re-read my comment, my appeal is also based on practicalities–let us assume that “Treasongate” is as big as Watergate, as big as Iran-Contra.
At this point, do we require a dilution of energy chasing some sleazy might-be affair about which most of the public will not give a rat’s arse? Or focus on Rove’s high crimes and misdemeanours?
And I see from the comments here and on DailyKos–yes, I visited there to read the “yea” and “nay” comments–that Rove has already won. No matter what happens to him now, he has successfully poisoned people’s souls so that they are willing to stoop to any depth, no matter how despicable, just to “win”.
But if you “win”, what is it that you are winning, again? And what is it that you are losing? Winning a battle always requires a sacrifice–but no battle is worth giving up our souls.
Does Rove deserve every humiliation that might be heaped upon him? Yes he does.
But have you thought about Rove’s wife? His children? The woman alleged to be having the affair with Rove? Her family? You are not merely willing but eager to cause them shame and humiliation?

I have mixed feelings about this. I generally agree with you. However, every once in a while you have to rap their knuckles so they know we’re not dead, or a doormat.
At a minimum, for me to go after a politician for their sex life they have to have been an outspoken critic of the very behavior they have engaged in.

There is a Mrs. Rove; there is also a teen-aged kid. Do they deserve to be dragged through this kind of public mess? Especially if it turns out to be a plant or a Rovian scam? Even if it’s true I would imagine he’d rather have his personal life under discussion than the present circumstances of his professional life.
We castigate him not only on the leak and the national security, we lambaste him about the personal level damage done to the Wilson family and kids. We can climb off that high horse with this approach.

The first thing I thought when I read it at Kos was “someone did THAT with HIM?!”
This kind of stuff is always around … I vividly remember my mom telling me that she’d heard that Mamie Eisenhower was an alcoholic.
And both parties do it. I found the Clarence Thomas hearings terribly embarrassing to listen to, and wished the Democrats could have talked about that privately. .. maybe my feelings at that time had to do with having a small child, and worrying about her hearing all that stuff.
Then I was just astonished when the GOP did that to Clinton … it showed just how far they’d go to destroy someone and that they had less sense of propriety than the Democrats.
It’s atypical for me, or this blog, to post such stuff. But it’s good we debate this. And I’m deeply resentful for all of the ugly things that Karl Rove has done to this country — as Cabin Girl said — and for his terrible attacks on people. Even if John McCain can ignore what Rove et al. did to him in So. Carolina, I can’t ignore it. People like that deserve to be held to account. And this story, if true, points to their hypocrisy.
I guess we will have to just wait and see. Like I said earlier, right now this is just rumour and it doesn’t hurt to be cautious when it comes to Rove. I want the turdblossom to burn in hell for all the shit he has flung, all the people he has hurt, all the lies he has told. THAT he deserves for sure. The nooky factor is secondary to the kind of sweetheart deals she and her company have been racking for years in Texas and now in D.C. on behalf of some high rolling companies.
