There is so much great info here, but I especially like this at the end:
Then in July, 2005, General Richard Myers, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, announced that there was not actually any “War on Terror:” ‘ General Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the National Press Club on Monday that he had “objected to the use of the term ‘war on terrorism’ before, because if you call it a war, then you think of people in uniform as being the solution.” ‘
Gee, does that mean John Kerry was RIGHT about how to fight terrorism?
here before, but have you guys seen ‘The Power of Nightmares’? It was a 3-part BBC documentary done recently (a year or two ago, I think) about the history of Islamic fundamentalism and the American neoconservatives, and how their roots are somewhat related. It’s really interesting, and ties in to a lot of the things that Prof. Cole writes about in this article.
It’s not available on DVD (yet, anyway…it may be eventually). Here’s a Q&A page with Adam Curtis, the man who wrote and narrated it: link.
If people are interested, I can try to put together a diary (or short series of them) summarizing the films. They really are an eye opener.
I’ll do it…I should have some time to work on it later this week or this weekend.
I actually do have the series on 2 DVDs, I burned them from copies I downloaded on the internet. I’m trying to find contact information for Adam Curtis so that I can see if he would mind if I distributed them on a not-for-profit basis, but haven’t been able to find anything so far. If I can get his OK, I would be happy to burn some more copies and send them out by request.
I’ll see about that, and work on the diaries in the meantime…
We reap what we sow.

Once Upon a Time, indeed — a great read, but I won’t be telling it as a bedtime story to my kiddos for another few years yet!
😉

I’ve become an embarrassing broken record on that series with my e-mail buddies….
there’s also a DVD. JPol, who posts here, got hold of a DVD that he showed at his local Meetup in Pennsylvania.
