Good morning, afternoon, or evening, Frogsters!
If it’s Thursday, it must be kansas.
But alas poor girl, she suffers from the embarrassment of her state.
Let’s help kansas, ghostdancers way, katiebird, and any kansans who may be lurking, by singing along to a new version of the state song of Kansas. (And then we’ll ask kansas why she is referring to herself in the third person.)
By Dr. Brewster Higley
Oh give me a home,
Where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
Home, home on the range
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word,
And the skies are not cloudy all day.
By kansas
(Substitute political party of your choice, as needed!)
Oh, give me a home,
Where the Democrats roam,
Where the Dean and the Hillary play.
Where seldom is heard a Republican word
And the votes are all counted all day.
Home, home on the Hill,
Where we’re the majority still.
Where seldom is heard a Republican word,
and the cash is still in the till.
Hooome, home on the land,
Where Kansas is known as a band,
Where never is heard a creationist word
And Fred Phelps gets the back of our hand.
Oh, give me a home,
Where the Democrats roam,
Where Conyers and Kennedy play,
Where seldom is heard a Republican word,
And the news is not cloudy all day!
Thank you! I feel so much better now. Oh, wow, I can even refer to myself in the first person again! PEETS COFFEE AND KRISPY KREME DOUGHNUTS for everybody in all time zones!
THE FROGGY BOTTOM CAFE IS OPEN!
*Tip o’ the hat to the Bood Master
What lovely voices you frogs have!
Okay, you know the drill. . .
How’s everybody doin’ today? I’m feeling nervous about what will happen down in Crawford, are you??
I just got off the phone with Tracy in Texas, I took some notes and will try to fill you in.
Tracy is in excellent spirits, at 8:oo this morning, Texas time as she gets ready to go out to the site. She reports there are quite a few lawyers there waiting for something to happen and they can step in.
She reports that Janet Strange is wonderful and smart, which we aready knew, didn’t we…..yes Janet we knew.
TRacy sounds great in person, she has a wonderful laugh and she did not use the F word once, lol..she says she has cut way back on the word.
She was a little upset at the pic that was on here yesterday, says she didn’t have time to fix up after the long trip, but I think they all looked beautiful..
I just got up and it’s only 6;30 here, so when I get my head together more, I will finish writing this..
Oh and she said the weather looks to be very good today as they head out…
Porta Potties seem to be a big concern..
The mood is very high, Cindy Sheehan was in the peace house, her mood is good also, as reported by Tracy.
More later, I want to get this up…
Diane, THANK YOU!!
It’s great to know we can get updates from you at times when they may have problems getting on-line.
Please give them phone hugs!
I gave Tracy a big hug from all of us and then an EXTRA BIG hug from shirl, because I knew she would if she had been there – she’s the “official hugger” around these parts.
Janet, thanks so much for spreading the Shirl Hugs, and for all that all of you are doing there! I am mighty Damn Proud of you froggers!!
Keep up the good work and know you have thousands of Tribbers and Kossacks and Left Wingers and all the other sites members loving you for what you are doing and standing right next to you in spirit!!
BIG HUGE HUGS to one and all
Shirl
She did; I was there. Janet made an extra big deal of passing on a big hug from everyone.
I’m such a Little Miss Priss about Porta Potties. I fear they could stand between me and the revolution. 🙂
holding your breath.
And know that you should harass everyone to leave the seat down (that’s what keeps the smell down).
Also, as one red state flyover country midwesterner to another, I extend full sympathies (while still going “thank you, oh cosmic muffin, that that it was Kansas and not Indiana”).
“cosmic muffin”. . .lol! I love that. With butter on top.
Sigh. You’re so lucky. At least nobody has published a book called What’s the Matter With Indiana?
is a steal from the hysterically funny Deteriorata which in case you don’t know it, you can read at this link.
If it will cheer you up, I’m sure I can find you book all about how the Klan took over Indiana in the 20’s.
I’m over here in a deep deep deep funk over the diary about the thawing of the Siberian permafrost pushing global warming over the tipping point, and reading “Deteriorata” gave me a much-needed chuckle. Thanks!
[aside – I was whining to brinn and Tracy about no one taking me up on “saying hi” when I’m up in the NW, cuz I hate to travel alone and was so afraid that I’d be all homesick and lonely in my wanderings and was hoping that being able to do lunch with a tribble or two would cheer me up. And they said – but you seem so self-assured in your writings! Surely no one knew that you felt like that! My, my, we do know each other on-line (smart? ummm, ok. wonderful? sometimes), but then again some things don’t come through (massively insecure about sometimes).
BUT, my daughter called last night and said she can go with me after all, so now the trip is looking like fun instead of a chore! Though I do still want to say hi to anyone, and if we can get together, you can meet my beautiful, smart, sweet daughter, too.
We’ll be flying in to Portland tomorrow and spending Fri night and Sat morning in Seattle. Ferry to Victoria Sat, and on up to the North Island Sun. Wandering back down to Portland mid-week. Email below – lemme know.]
And thanks for the update diane! Wish San Diego (is that right?) was on the way . . .
If I remember correctly (no guarantees!), you put out your feelers kind of late in a diary, so it’s possible that nw’er’s didn’t even see it. Maybe some will see it today, I hope.
But hey, come to Kansas! (ha! You want to see a request that nobody replies to, lol!)
Hey, I hear Lawrence isn’t too bad…you’re not too far from there, right?
“Larry,” as the kids call it, is very cool, very very blue, and only about 30 miles west of me. My son goes to the university there.
it barely possible for me to survive in Kansas. All those inane Bush 04, Bush/Cheney 04, W04, bumper stickers all over the rest of Kansas makes me want to start causing major casualty problems on a car or two. But I won’t, I promise I won’t, the hell I won’t, lol One of my favorite John Wayne lines from McClintock.
Anyway, I am here, spreading my evil Liberal ways all over the small Kansas town where I reside. I continue to question the city council, the county commission and the local school board about issues that most just say, well that is how they have always done it. They don’t like me much here, at least the powers that be don’t like the questions that I ask when I come to their meetings.
I am glad everyone is here and have a marvelous day.
Janet, I live in Socal, Orange County, south of LA, but not San Diego., but sure wish it was on your way..
I want to have an LA meetup with everyone at some point.lol.
You know Susanhu is in Seattle…
wasn’t I? I mean isn’t SanD south of LA? 🙂
(My daughter is a geography major – she’d roll her eyes at me if she heard . . . .)
Susan’s in Port Angeles. Oh S-u-s-a-n . . . .
Did you get to tell Tracy they were frontpaged?
Reno, Nevada or San Diego, Ca
this is not a trick question, lol
Those of us who once lived in Reno know this one for sure. . . .it is Reno. . .and a good Jeopardy question it has always been too.
The spouse and I will be visiting some Mickey Mouse organization end of the month… 😉
I live only 10 min. from Disneyland…Santa ana, Ca. give me a gingle when you come, maybe aloha can come up too, and pick me up….I can go 10 min. away with no problem….lol..
I don’t know what your plans are in Seattle (sounds like a brief stay before the ferry ride), but if can check out any Chihuly glass (maybe you’ve seen it elsewhere already?), you should. It’s one of my favorite things about doing business in Seattle; I stay at the Alexis Hotel, and they have a gorgeous piece in their lobby.
… for your trip Janet – and your daughter to boot! I’m sorry that we won’t get a chance to meet. If only the country wasn’t so darn big! I’ll be thinking of you and hoping your mission is successful.
And if any of you BTers travel north and east – say to Ottawa – give me a shout.
What pic? What did I miss? I want to see what these incredible women look like!
Go see Tracy and Brinn’s excellent adventure on the FP!
Pics are there!
Ooooookay. Maybe I should read the front page more often!
Thanks!
Love the new sig, btw!
Bee working hard in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Good morning Tribbers.
No real updates on my Grandmother today – suspect she’ll linger as is for some time. Taking the kids to see her tonight – told them she was “a lot like Grandpa” (he was essentially a vegetable for the last couple years of his life) – but they both said they want to go visit and give her a hug.
I’ve got great kids.
You sure do have great kids. And, imo, you’re wise not to “shield” them from it. I took my son to see his beloved granddad in the nursing home where nearly everybody had dementia of some kind of other and he didn’t like it there (who does?) but he felt really glad that he had gone a few times to see grandpa. And my dad was pleased to have company even if he didn’t quite know who we were.
Purty picture.
Good morning cafe froggies. I have but a minute before I need to get ready for work but wanted to drop in. Diane thanks for the update. You have my email and can drop me a note or give it to the gals if they need anything I will give them my phone# via an email. Janet, thanks for all you did yesterday to help the cause. I envy the three of you getting together. I am the one that is in San Diego county(Del Mar). If you ever come this way you have a place to stay. I would love to meet you. You have given me great advise about getting active in the past.
Diane, I will come to LA for a Bootribe get together. Let’s get started planning this. Gotta run…great song Kanasa. Everyone have a fabulous day and lets all send out good thought to the Universe to the folks in Crawford, excluding George of course.
how to get to southern CA sometime, to see you and diane both.
And if anyone is coming to Austin sometime, let me know.
Funny, yesterday Tracy seemed a little confused about this being “Texas.” Wondering about all of the anti-Bush bumper stickers. Brinnainne quoted Kinky Friedman to her – “It’s not so much that Austin is in Texas, as surrounded by it.”
The door is always open my friend!!
think if you throw me a bunch of fours you are all invited too?LOL I love company and man the veiw is outrageous. I will try to post a sunset when I get home from work.
More about Tracy and Trip….
She talked a lot about Tim Goodrich and in case you don’t know about him here is a site, quite a remarkable young man.
She said that about 75 people stayed at the ‘site’ ‘during the night, the numbers at the site are still low but growing and people are coming in from all over.
Yes Aloha, we need a meetup, in Orange Co., ok, not LA..I can barely leave the town, so I would not be able to go to LA….LOL….
So everyone start making plans for visiting Ca., would be good if it were timed for an event. I just know you all will want to come here, right, Disneyland Remember, is right here.
I told Tracy how proud we all are of her. If there is any need that others can fill, I will pass that along to Bootribbers or whomever has offered.
She hasn’t met up with ‘supersoling’, but will be on the lookout for him.
Anyone like ‘supersoling’ who wants to contact Tracy, I have her cell number and can facilitate that in some way, by calling her etc. so email me, or whatever…
Is going to cover ‘Cindy’ about 9:00 PDT from what I just heard.
may not be correct, they reported a press conference was to take place, but did not say they would cover it…and it doesn’t seem like they are going to as international news is on now..
I am checking all the stations, but if anyone sees anything let me/us know,..
Wow. What an amazing guy. Just read the link you posted diane…
If you don’t mind, click some ads today. It’s quick, doesn’t cost the clicker anything, and it helps support the site. (This is NOT a paid announcement, lol.)
Between carpet-fouring and ad-clicking, there’s gonna be some serious RSI around here. On another note, I’m amused to see that for kansas’s Café diary, GoogleAds sees fit to put up ads for realtors in Kansas. The universe, through Google, is trying to tell us something here….
we can all move to Kansas and turn the state blue?
Or, as per AndiF, Oh My Cosmic Muffin!
I just now noticed those Kanas ads. Remember that diary I did about coinkydinks, lol! THAT’S what I’m talkin’ about.
Too funny! Ya’ll buy land here! We’ve got all the Republicans you can eat.
agree to include the Cosmic Muffin as a possible designer? This would, after all, provide an excellent explanation for the rampant design flaws.
Lol! I hope ghostdancers way reads that. Maybe he could use it the next time he confronts his local school board. And you’re right. It certainly would explain the design flaws. Everybody knows muffins are full of holes.
Oh, it just got a little weirder, bear with me for a moment. I’m cleaning up the house this afternoon since my housemate moved out last week. In her (former) job here in DC she encountered a lot of local & state politicians all around the country. I discovered this tchotschke on an end table, one of those stupid little crystal dishes you never know what to do with. So I look at it, thinking I’ll toss it, and it’s got a state seal on it. Below the seal is engraved the name “Lynn Jenkins, CPA” with the title below it, “Kansas State Treasurer.” The seal, of course, is that of Kansas, with the state motto Ad astra per aspera, “To the stars through hard work” (roughly). The universe is trying to tell me something today.
Okay, even weirder, I’ve been holding “per ardua ad astra” (through hardship to the stars) in reserve for a new sig line…pretty similar to your little dish…
Well, it’s a good one as Latin phrases go, and as they say, Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur.
Why that sounds almost as profound as illegitimi non carborundum… 🙂
I wonder if they monitor for content, so that if I wrote Utah Utah Utah Utah Utah Utah Utah we’d suddenly see ads for Utah real estate.
I think that’s exactly how it works.
I’m fairly certain in this case they picked up on your username. It’ll be a fun exercise to see what ads Google serves up when, say, CabinGirl or katiebird host.
There’s a foreclosed house in Lenexa available for less than $100,000 dollars! Maybe I can talk the Mrs. into moving back to KC after all! LOL
You know you want to, lol.
I told my wife that there was a house in Lenexa available for under $100,000, and she asked if it was a shotgun shack with a view of I-35 from the front porch! LOL
The pond is buzzing with connections today. I just wanted to let everyone know that Scribe and I connected last weekend and we are going to get together this Saturday, August 13th at the Louisiana Cafe in St. Paul (on the corner of Dale and Selby) at 11 am for coffee/brunch. Anyone in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota is welcome to join us. I can’t wait!!
Some years ago at a folk music workshop I encountered the lead singer of the Irish Rovers who’d recorded the “Unicorn” song. It prompted me to cook up a more contempory version that’s been rattling around my hard drive for a while.
With apologies to author Shel Silverstein. Feel free to sing along with the chorus. Illustrations are welcome!
There was more boring animals than you’ve ever seen.
Sure they’d done well since Noah and his storm,
But the world still had no uny-corn.
There was green alligators and long-necked geese,
Some hoompty-backed camels and some chimpanzees;
Some cats and rats and ely-phants, but sure as you’re born,
The world didn’t have no uny-corn.
Now the Lord loved progress, and he thought real bold.
He said, “People can now do what I did of old.”
He rounded up some techies and said to a few:
“Clone me a whole new zoo.”
“I want some blue alligators and friendly bees,
some hoondred-pound turkeys and some pasta trees,
Some humble cats and cuddly rats, but sure as you’re born:
First thing ya build’s me uny-corn!”
Those techies were listenin’ and they were wise,
Their test tubes were bubblin’ as they laid in supplies.
They marched out proposals, two by two,
Announced them as they read through:
“We’ll make some blue alligators and friendly bees,
some hoondred-pound turkeys and some pasta trees,
Some humble cats and cuddly rats, but sure as you’re born:
First thing we build’s that uny-corn!”
But Management got together and made a big switch,
The booming stock market would make them rich.
They fleeced the whole company as web stocks soared.
— Oh, that silly Corp’rate Board!
And that’s why we still don’t have no uny-corns, to this very day!
There-coulda-been blue alligators and friendly bees
some hoondred-pound turkeys and some pasta trees,
Some humble cats and cuddly rats, but sure as you’re born:
We’re never seein’ them nor the uny-corns!”
Those darned corporate boards!
Seems to me The Spaghetti Factory used to have “photos” of Pasta Trees. I think I remember seeing one for the first time and having a moment of, “huh”?
But humble cats? What an imagination!
(Goose? What did you do to get the pretty yellow? I tried finding the Selection Source but right clicking didn’t do it this time. Thanks.)
It was a famous gag aired by Johnny Carson in the U.S., evidently originally created in 1957 by the BBC. There’s a link to the original video on that site.
My grandmother called up Mom to tell her to put it on and watch. Mom said “But you’ve made pasta!!”
I just pasted code I saw in someone’s colorful box on dKos some months ago. I didn’t do any editing. In addition to the code, there are some 16 words that can be used for color such as red, blue and yellow.
style=”background-color:#ffffcc;padding:10px;margin-left:24px;border-style:outset;border-color:#ffcc
00″
Permissible color values
Thanks, G. See above what you have wrought.
Hey guys – check this out! Raw Story has a link to Tracy and Brinn’s Excellent Adventure post with their Cindy Sheehan block. Titled ‘Blog in too.’
I’m sure this is related to Susan’s comment … they’ve got something up!
That’s great! For anybody who goes looking, click on the headline, “Blog in too”
Does anyone have a good site for free music? If not free, than a low cost. I am on my way to the library to get more music for the long trip to China and there are some songs I can’t find.
Ya done went and oudid yerself missy; Great diary!
Thankee,ManEegee!
Just a bit under the weather today, so slept in and skipped workout (boo hiss) — but will try and get one in this evening, and drag the spouse with me. 🙂
Glad to hear all is well with the crew in Crawford; seems to be picking up a lot of media steam, better late than never. KTVU had a great piece on Cindy’s son Casey on the late news; possibly guilt feelings from hanging up on DJ? 😉
Well, time to get moving out of here for the day…have a good one, folks. Continued hugs to any and all in need…
I hope you keep feeling better as the day goes on, Cali Scribe.
Thought I’d pop in here … put some flowers on some of the tables… Cut fresh, still smell terrific.
Olivia, so nice! I particular love the middle with with the shadows across the blossom.
