Good Morning/Afternoon BooTribbers! The Froggy Bottom Cafe is officially open for business.
Before I get to the breakfast specials, please take some time to visit the American Red Cross website and donate towards the recovery efforts in light of the devastation from Hurricane Katrina. You can also donate via telephone at 1-800-HELP-NOW.
Thanks for considering the support. Now onto the virtual breakfast table:
Today’s top-notch breakfast/brunch comes courtesy of the The Texas White House Bed and Breakfast of Fort Worth. Let’s show them how their caricatures of liberals aren’t even a shadow of the truth. Kill them with kindness, without the killing, of course.
We have fresh coffee, orange juice, fruit and muffins to start your day with a smile. Food for the body and soul.
There have been a lot of emotional burn-outs recently, me included. A person can only take so much outrage, and the White House provides plenty of fuel (the ranch, not the B&B). So take some time today to look around you, find the beauty of your surroundings, and see if there is a way for you to build on that goodness.
If you are experiencing pain, I wish for you healing.
If you are experiencing anger, I wish for you peace.
If you are experiencing despair, I wish for you hope.
Together, we can work towards a better world. We already do it within our circles of families, friends and workplaces. Lets continue that worthy mission and spread it beyond the frog pond today.
Have a great Tuesday everyone and may the 4s be with you!
Update [2005-8-30 16:35:28 by Man Eegee]: Of course, for lunch you can expect to have Eegee’s. It’s a staple food in Tucson. (and no, I don’t have any affiliation with them).
Has everyone been doing their ad-clicking duties today? I’m afraid to spend too much time at the Powells Bookstore link because I’m a book-a-holic.
Who’s coming to the rallies? Click on the picture for more info.
The committee is still looking for volunteers to help out with the planning for the showcase on September 10th and 11th. Full details here or seek out katiebird who is spearheading the project.
She is particularly in need of jump-starting her, so that another evening doesn’t drift by without something happening.
Thanks for the early cafe Manny, it makes a great start for “early-birds” such as myself.
Depending on my work schedule at the time, I am going to try to be in DC. I cannot think of a better sight to see than a swarm of people covering the capital.
What is going to be interesting will be the number of young people attending, this will be the indicator to me of what our future may bring.
As for the emotional burn outs, well, that is something our opponents count on. If you can’t dazzle the public with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit ; )
We need to feed our good wolf with understanding, patience, persistance, and perserverance.
(and them kick them square in the ass, for that truly is where their brain is…in the area of their wallet ; )
The emotion that is strongest in our lives today, and is the catylist to the global situation is pure greed. It truly blinds the beholder to everything that is right, and covets the wrong. It has become the line of thought of being necessary, instead of basics needs, shadowing what we feel towards others.
In life, these things I know to be true: right/wrong good/evil light/dark
Do right, be good, and walk in the light.
peace be with all you and yours always…have a great day
Later gators ; )
IP (and everyone else who might have missed our discussions), please come to DC! There’s already a good-sized group of folks from BT planning on being there, and we’d love to meet up with you in person!
I will do my best to work it into my schedule, but there is a new project starting that will keep me occupied 24/7 for about 9 months minimum, and they want me there last week. I’m trying to finish the project I’m on right now, so as to speed up the start of the new one.
I would love nothing better than to be there, but we’ll see how things work out.
If everything goes through with the contract, I will only have two others that can fill in while I’m away, and maybe that will be one of the weekends I can get away, I promise you, I’ll do my level best, for it is important to me as well.
When I start these contracts, I’m on call 24/7, not much time for fun ; (
LOL…peace, and hope to see all there.
for those great words of wisdom. You’re right, we do have to feed our good wolf, hopefully the cafe and companionship on this blog can be helpful. I agree with you about the greed; yesterday I saw a bumpersticker with an American flag on it, it had the words “Power of Pride” underneath it. It made me think, ‘how is that possibly a good thing’? Our country needs to regain some humility and hopefully steer the ship in a better direction. We’re heading for rocks at the moment under the current Captain.
I had every intention of going to DC via bus from NH with a peace group but my parallel personal dry-drunk side-swipes me again.
My personal life and political concerns both include outrages by ‘dry-drunks’- people who seem unable to take responsibility for their actions. No remorse, no amends.
I am again being threatened, bullied an blamed because I won’t pool my money with my alcoholic spouse’s. There’s no trust and nothing I say to defend my reasons sink in.
I doubt that I’ll go to DC because I am afraid ‘my home’ will be locked from me.
I am doing my damnest to get my personal ducks in a row. When my emotions are raw I am unable to focus on the important things like PEACE in America.
I wish I was stronger, but I will be with all of you who do go to DC in September…
rosee, go read Kipling’s poem: “IF”
you are the passionate one, but sometimes you must also be careful ; )
do what you need to do lady, my spirit is with you.
peace
I have a pen an ink drawing of “IFS” inspired from that.
Peace is all I want-thanks
please allow me to share something that has helped me in the past to move away from my ex, the coke head. He was the love of my life and it took all the strength I had to let him go and move on with my own life. I called him a phyche vampire and I was tired of being drained.
“Today,I will let go of the fears and self-doubt that block me from taking assertive action in my best interest. I can take care of myself and let others do the same for themselves.”
Take what you need and leave the rest behind my friend. That is not in reference to your possesions but my quote. Peace be with you.
Rosee, I divorced my alcoholic husband nearly 9 years ago. My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner.
Earlier this summer, I had to cut his interaction with my kids off because his behavior was just too damaging (he has recurrent legal problems). We called it “cancelling our subscription to his issues”, courtesy of Damnit Janet. Life has been so much calmer and on an even-keel since we did it.
I wish you the strength to do what’s best for you in this situation.
Mornin’ Manny! Nice spread you’ve got here…almost like you’re expecting some special company today! π
How are your DC plans coming? Will you need a place to stay, or do you have friends there?
I am still finalizing plans for D.C. I will probably fly in Friday and then head up the East Coast on Sunday after the Interfaith Prayer Service. I’m going to meet two cousins in Boston and fly back from there. I’ll let you all know ASAP. This is exciting.
My email is listed on the Cafe group site…let me know when you have more definitive plans.
If anyone needs a place to stay in the DC area, I have a spare bedroom and a pullout couch in the living room, so I could take 2 couples or 2 singles. You should know I have 2 cats, in case you are allergic.
I live in Arlington, VA, which is right outside of DC. Am relatively close to metro and can help drive people around that weekend.
Email me if you need a place to stay.
Right now, I’m thinking we could do something like have a Friday night happy-hour/dinner type get-togther for people who are in DC Friday. The march is Saturday and followed by the operation ceasefire concert (Thievery Corporation are playing-woo-hoo!); if we want to do the march together, we can arrange a meet-up point. And then on Sunday, if anybody is interested in doing brunch or sightseeing with all of us out-of-towners before people have to head home, that could be an option too.
I know Damnit Janet is planning on visiting the Vietnam Memorial; I’d like to do that too. We have hotel reservations already; if you need to make reservations, let us know if you want to stay in the same hotel or general vicinity.
Does any of this sound like a cool idea? Please give me some feedback, and maybe mlk19569 and BrotherFeldspar can help us come up with some fun extra-curricular plans!
Sounds good to me! I have to tell you that my favorite building in all of DC is the Library of Congress. It is open to the public and they beautifully restored it several years ago. And they usually have interesting exhibits based on the massive collection. It’s on the back side of the Capitol Building and next to the Supreme Court.
that doing any or all of these would be optional, but it might make the trip to DC more appealing for people who aren’t crazy about traveling alone!
Also, maybe we could start using the East regional discussion thread (it’s so lonely anyways!) to help get organized?
I think that a get together meetup is a perfect idea and I’m all for staying in a group as much as possible. I won’t be with you guys for the whole three days. My little guy has a back surgery coming up so I will have to come home midway and take off for that. While I’m there though I would really like to stay with and among as many Boomaners as possible.
Am I the only one getting nervous about the lack of death totals coming out of Katrina? Some of the these Southerners are hard headed and I stopped for gas in New Orleans on my way home from Crawford and my husband says I have a ghetto detector…..I am very nonjudgemental about some things at times and I have driven us into some scary places. That night though when I stopped for gas I really found a poor section of New Orleans, I mean really damn poor…..I don’t know how those people all would have found a way out, most didn’t look like they had cars! I’m not sure they would have taken the hurricane seriously consider their living conditions.
They probably won’t have a total for several weeks. With the water so high right now, it’ll take time for rescue workers to just get to survivors, let alone account for the missing/dead.
The mayor of NO is saying there are probably a “Significant number of deaths”. It’s going to be a sad time in the US for a while.
In the meantime Georgie Peorgie is here yucking it up about how great the war is and how much we need to stay the course and POLLUTING MY AIR!!!!!
What a nice cafe you’ve put out, ManEegee. It’s wonderful that you’re going to be our Tuesday host. Gee, I wonder if we’ll have any surprises today? π
It’s so exciting to read about everybody’s get-together plans!
I could be wrong, but I think our mystery guest will be arriving next Tuesday. Boo, is that correct? Either way, I’m happy to help out around here. Like my new sig-line? π
Ah ha! Well, if that’s so, it’s probably a good thing with so much else going on right now.
Soul food – exactly right.
Thought I’d share a couple shots I took on the way home from my Grandmother’s graveside service yesterday.
Grandma loved a KS Sunset. Food for the soul.
Check out the heavenly bodies in this one – I think that’s Mars and Venus.
A toast to those planning to protest on the 24th – and those supporting them.
A lot of my family has been buried on the plains east of Colorado Springs at a cemetery named Kansa after some of the local Indians who mostly were farmers and I guess that is where Kansas gets its name too. My family were dry land farmers out there for three generations. It has always been a healing place for me to be. It is basically the same terrain as in your photos.
These are just west of Abilene – eastern KS – but yes – very much the same terrain.
Here are a few more for you and Kansas. If either of you would like a larger version, drop me an email. I’m delighted you enjoy the shot’s I was fortunate enough to capture.
I must have spent 30 minutes playing with angles and framing (starting when the sun was still a ball in the sky and really to bright to shoot). Very healing – I share my grandmother’s love of photography and sunsets. My wife and kids were very patient π
Absolutely beautiful!
thanks for sharing your pix, those are great.
Ah, peace to my soul, esp. the windmill one.
Thanks siyitc.
if you’d like a larger copy emailed – drop me a note – (same offer for any of my BooTrib friends.)
Some day I’m going to set up a web site to share my hobby, maybe even try to sell a few prints. Glad you folks enjoy em.
I just e’ed you to ask for that first one of the windmill in the distance. Thanks so much.
For those in Calf. I hope you all know that there are sister protests on Sept 24th both in LA and San Francisco. I am planning on going to LA. Any SoCal folks want to meet up? I have an extra bedroom if anyone wants to come from near by states and can drive up with me to LA. I have a cat just in case you are allergic and I smoke but outside on the balcony only. I am a block to the beach and we have a pool, jacuzzi and fitness center.
will be up in SF; as soon as we get home, I’m ordering us his and hers BooMan shirts… π
And for others unable to make it to DC, do what you can in your local areas to make a statement. If it’s just in DC, it’ll be easy to dismiss the group as a bunch of “smelly hippies” π — but if the response is nationwide, the MSM and others will have to sit up and take notice, like they did the night of Cindy’s vigil.
“Attention must be paid” — Death of a Salesman
Aloha, would you be able to pick me up and take me along as I don’t drive. I am not sure I will be able to go, as physical thing is day by day, but if I can and do feel well enough I would love to go. I am right off the 5 and close to the 405 and 55.
Where are the protests to take place, what part of LA that is.
I will get more information today and post it. I believe impeachbush.org? has the schedule but I just haven’t gotten that far yet.
YES! I would love to help you. Aren’t you in Orange?
I am in Santa Ana, Orange Co., about 1 mile from entrance to the 5. Well we can email each other about this, but I would also love to meet you Ms. Aloha, and this would be a good chance.
I haven’t heard if there will be any events in this area, but it will no doubt be bigger in the LA area.
Normally I do not like to go to LA county, quite different than Orange C. and much busier, but for this I would go, if able.
Love to meet you too Diane. Email me and we will figure it out. I too have not too much love for LA but it sure beats the hell out of Crawford…lol.
Morning/evening everyone and Manny great diary, you bring new ‘life’ to the cafe and thanks for pitching in to help.
I’ll change things up as the day progresses, but I’m trying to keep the fiesta atmosphere toned down given the devastation in LA and MS.
Mornin’ all. Here’s what makes an easy breakfast for me, but as brunch and lunchtime comes along, help yourself. We have some Nanaimo oysters, Alaskan smoked salmon and some local Dungeness crab cakes to go with melons & other light fare.
Wish we could go to D.C. but as we’re working on emmigration, we don’t dare do any public protesting and risk complicating our profiles.
I’ve just been notified that I’ll now be charged for half the cost of my future retirement previously-paid healthcare, and frankly I’ll be lucky if the care is even offered by the time I’m eligible. Canada for us is a cold, hard economic necessity.
Meanwhile we’ll be rooting for everyone who assembles to petition, and we’ll do some lte’s and donate when we can.
the food looks great Gooserock. When I was in Ensenada last week, I couldn’t get enough seafood. Now that I’m back in Az, I’m still craving it. Yum!
somone’s got SMOKED SALMON!!! I am now your humble servant! π
on hand. Usually we have to stick with the tougher discount brands, but this batch is a real melt-in-your-mouth delight.
We also usually have some Poulsbo brand pickled herring, another great easy-eatin’ treat.
That’s where the family’s Beardless One draws the line. She won’t go with me to sardines, smoked clams & oysters, and anchovies, or as I call the latter, “Bacon of the Sea.”
Good morning everyone.
Great breakfast being offered, thanks ME!
Good to see how many of us that will converge on DC next month. Wish I could join as well, both to walk the walk as well as meeting up with fellow tribbers – alas, no.
I have a good excuse, though. Starting a new assignment in my organization this week which will take me to Sudan towards the end of September. Bonus; the trip should provide some unique diary material.
How did Bush’s speeches come about? Spindoctor.
lookin’ forward to your Sudan diaries, that should be an experience.
Just about ready to pack up the computer again, for the transfer from LA to Anaheim. So far, the vacation has been great; seen a lot of fun things and am feeling more connected with the spouse.
Got three packages of books and assorted info to send back home, care of the in-laws; still need to pack up the transit info. [Memo to self: go by Target when we get home and get lots of shoe-box size plastic boxes, to hold all the shit…]
The rest of the trip will be trying to get back in touch with my inner child at Disneyland…
Check in with you folks later…
I can’t wait to go in December for New Years’ Eve. I hear the fireworks for the 50th Anniversary are spectacular. Everytime I go to Disneyland there are three things I have to eat: a footlong corn dog that can be found at the cart on the right side at the end of Main Street U.S.A., a clam chowder bread bowl from the New Orleans area near Pirates, and a churro from the cart by the Haunted Mansion. (Did I mention I’m a Disneyland addict?) π
Manee, when you come to Disneyland, you must please contact me, I would love to meet you…I am 10 min away.
My daughter is a Disneyland addict also, she’s 30, and she has never gotten over the magic there, I have, but still glad she has hers.
I’ll be in the area for a week, so I’ll make sure we meet up for lunch or something. π
Manny are you going to come to San Diego too? If not maybe we all could meet up half way between Santa Ana and San Diego? What do you think Diane?
I would love to meet up somewhere, but I do not drive as I said, and I rarely leave town, one of my peccadillo’s, (actually I rarely leave my house,)but we can work something out. Maybe you can bring your grandchild to Disneyland at that time, and I’ll bring mine.
Well we have a long time to plan for that and I am sure something can be worked out.
I wish we all could meet down at the local FBC in our own towns but that is impossible, I know. It would be so fun to really hang out with you all.
Things are slightly chaotic here at work but I’m checking in every few minutes. I hope you’re all having a good Tuesday. π
Hot in the mtns today, mid to hi 90’s forecast…70’s tomorrow. Weather starts to get volatile this time of year…Ha!
More windmills and prairie sunsets:
Aermotor windmill
Grain elevators at sunset
Gotta get to work…Enjoy!
Peace
the Photography Fair, you all post great pix everyday and it will be neat to see the best-of-the-best.
Hi Man E and fellow BooTribbers. Wonderful cafe Man E. I need a large helping of soul food today. I wish for you healing, peace, and hope too!
Even though we’re all sitting behind various types of keyboards in different states (and countries), it’s helpful to remember every once in awhile that we share a common purpose for peace and the restoration of hope in our world. I know that sounds sappy, but I know I need a reminder now & again.
It appears the news is getting worse in NOLA and Mississippi, please consider donating to the Red Cross if you haven’t already done so; the link is at the top of the cafe diary. Thx everyone, this is devastating.
Great spread, Man Eegee π
That says it all DJ: failed leadership in action.
Bush just didn’t have the vacation he wanted. Wonder if that means he’ll book another retreat. After all, it’s “hurrrrrrrrd worrrrrrrrrrk” running away from lies you’ve said and problems.

“We’re not even dealing with dead bodies,” Nagin said. “They’re just pushing them on the side.”
The flooding in New Orleans grew worse by the minute, prompting the evacuation of hotels and hospitals and an audacious plan to drop huge sandbags from helicopters to close up one of the breached levees. At the same time, looting broke out in some neighborhoods, the sweltering city of 480,000 had no drinkable water, and the electricity could be out for weeks.
Looting in Iraq, looting in New Orleans.
Now the world can’t say we didn’t provide Iraqis the same quality security we provide our own people.
Nice Cafe Manny. Hope everyone is having a good Tuesday.
today is somber given the situation in LA and MS, but hopefully people will read the diary and go to the Red Cross website and donate. I hear the Salvation Army is also seeking donations so they can provide meals to the refugees.
just a quick stop, I’m house-sitting for a friend of mine at the beach this week, would’nt you know it, during the hurricane…LMAO..anyway, far enough away not to bother, but a another friend of mine’s restaurant is next door, and only one waitress showed up, so I’m going next door to run the bar…stop by, it’s gonna be fun ; )
the pig is in charge of da bar…..Hoooooooo Laaaawd
Oh drat, my broom is broken and can’t stop by, but sure wish that I could.
So that means you won’t be online line then, whatever will we do, we miss you so much on this site and seeing all of your great comments sprinkled all over.
Fozzie, the Regular Barman couldn’t make it:
Drinks on da house…make mine a double…ahhhhhhh!
Peace
I can’t stop watching tv. Although I did change it from MSNBC when I heard that Rita Cosby was still going to give us the latest from Aruba… WTF is wrong with these people?!?
I long for the days when Entertainment Tonight or Hollywood Report was the only place that I could find that kind of crap, now it’s like diarrhea of the mouth, spreading from network-to-network.
ME too- i missed this the first time around , looking forward to it!
