I hope no one has to labor today, unless it is to pitch in and help the victims of Katrina. It’s a beautiful day in Philly. I plan on spending much of it on a roofdeck overlooking Center City.
Please remember to visit our sister site, European Tribune and to become a member. They are doing great work over there.
Ahem, it’s “Labour” Day. π
I need to get outside and get some fresh air. I’ve got some free (freecycled) plants to pick up, so I think I’ll do that. I could use a bit of playing in the dirt as a diversion.
I see Bush is heading to Miss for some more photo ops. It must suck to be him – having to cut his vacation short and all that.
Grrr…
I found something to get excited about! Please go and read Nag’s diarty on the reco list to find out how you can help the people at Wiki compile a one stop reunification web spot for the hurricane victims. If you can type and follow very simple instructions, you can help too.
diarty = diary
I’d better watch my spelling over at Wiki! Oops.
No way your from Philly. I was born in Lancaster Pa. and presently live in Winchester Va. I knew you you were allright I don’t care what the neocons say about you! π
Geez do you know Joe Bageant?
Does he walk with a limp and drink Yuengling? π
I dunno but he is a goddamm funny guy!
No AC, so it’s 84 F inside, and soon to be 90 F outside. So not conducive to cutting firewood.
We’re headed back to the city and AC. Blogging is a tad slow here at 31K.
I’m envious of those haning out at a lake today. It would be great weather to end the lake season on.
Where are you in North Dakota, if I may ask? I don’t know much of the state, and haven’t been there in decades, but i have a lot of family in the Minot area.
When I lived in the homeland, Saskatchewan, way, way back when, we used to go shopping in N Dakota because our dollar was worth more that the US greenback. Wow – that was a long time ago. π
Fargo, or more precisely West Fargo. My mother has first cousins in Minot. I’ve met most of them, but I don’t know them very well.
I need to create an email address for use here on booman.
Once that’s done, feel free to ask me any personal questions any time. I have the greatest respect for all that you do, Susanhu.
Today I woke up to cool, dry weather. With my back balcony door open to the breeze and the view out to the river and marsh behind my new house, which is not new, but new to us. I am livin LARGE!!!Unfortunately I had to throw a beercan at hub’s head to make him STOP IT ALREADY with the weedeater!
lol – send him up here. Our weedeater died.
I’m heading downstairs to my machine shop for some turning and gluing due to having some customers backlogged when family matters pulled me off the job several times recently. After lunch though we’re expecting visitors, so we’ll enjoy some yakking and walking about. Puget Sound is cool and overcast but we hope for some pretty sunbreaks later.
Totos are expected to increase their demands for ball playing tummy rubs.
I HATE YOU GOOSEROCK YOU LUCKY DAWG
I’d forgotten all about it, even while thinking how the left/liberal side of things had sadly lost the music that inspired it in the 60s and 70s. Then the local NPR station played it, and it moved me as much as it must have moved the workers who sang it as far back as 90 years ago. Its vision for America and its analysis of what went wrong are as acute and vivid as anything written since. It fits with stunning perfection the society Americans experience today.
Its authors and original singers may have seen “union” as a narrower membership-defined constituency, but today it has to mean, simply, All of Us who care more for our nation and our people than we care about power and profit. To me, it is sacred music.
I’m talking about “Solidarity Forever”. Read it with fresh eyes and sing it when you can. Let it light our way toward a better America:
WOW – I had forgotten that song! And me- the daughter of a whole family of schoolteachers from PA who- -not my mom – but the rest of them- Rpubs- -who would never admit they belonged to a union- and that it made everyone’s life better.Shame on them.
I loved sailing the Puget Sound so many eons ago.
Where I grew up -in Pittsburgh- it was the Homestead strike that pretty much formed everyone’s life- there was a very ugly confrontation and much loss of life and is still remembered well, because almost everyone was involved,on one side or the other. And never mind Mr .Andrew Carnegie who got a conscience and gave us all those libraries.
Illusions of Magicians to me?
Perhaps my nerves are raw and I am missing something (and no, IofM, I don’t need to hear anything further from you at this point, thank you).
I’m trying to explain reality to IoM. I don’t know if it’s working. Oh well. We all have our perspectives. Don’t let it get to you. You just keep doing what you’re doing sweetie. hugs
I’m missing something Brin? Who or what is “Illusions of Magicians”?
this and really, it is sort of worth missing at this point.
checked out the “this” to see what was up. And I’m agreed, Brinn, “worth missing at this point.”
Like I’ve said before the bickering is why I left the other place. The problem there was one of the higher-ups on the site was setting a “fine” example…
Other than the negative emotions and energy drain, the people who generate these bickering sequences waste a terrific amount of time. Time, energy, and positive emotions always in short supply, eh?
The other site referenced has IMO lost a tremendous degree of effectiveness due to the long strings of bickering plus a few other problems.
I used to wonder how our fascist opposition was going to deal with the internets. It did not occur to me that our blogs could disintegrate from within. I won’t say at this point that this sort of thing is being caused intentionally by our opposition, but it has crossed my mind.
I shall endeavor always to remain open to constructive critique. However, should anyone’s tone be in an unconstructive attack mode it shall be my personal policy not to reply. If the shoe fits, you may assume I’ve said, “GFYS”
” I won’t say at this point that this sort of thing is being caused intentionally by our opposition, but it has crossed my mind.”
It could be the “lone wolf” but it really reminds me of the counter protesters showing up at every Kerry rally. The guy IofM was on the Nation’s blog very recently spouting the same crap. There are several others there who continually try to take control of the thread and change the subject. The Nation seems to want to put up with this out of a sense of fairness I guess. Blogs are a powerful force. This administration does not like dissent so I’m sure Rove is looking for ways to crush it. The Nation is at least 50% neocons spouting the same crap that’s destroying our country and killing our people.
Curious visitor from another solar system???
I just heard CNN reporter Udora Adoji(sp?) say that they are no longer dropping food to those in NO who are refusing to leave. I’m sorry – what kind of fucking plan is that?? They’re going to force them into starvation so they’ll decide to leave? Can someone please explain this to me? I know those people are in danger of disease etc, but this is absolutely inhumane!
WHAT?????!!!!!!!!
I bet that that’s Skeletor Fuckwad’s doing … he can’t repeat it often enough that everyone must leave.
