I feel like the White Rabbit today, I’m late I’m late.
But wanted to let the BooMarchers know that several on the dkos C&J email were inquiring about plans. I shared the tentative plans set forth by BrotherFeldspar and that we still have empty pillows and a hearty breakfast on Saturday. I copied both groups onto the same email.
RenaF had seen in a cindy sheehan diary questions about the gathering of us all.
So that way both groups can share the info. Getting together – that’s part of what it’s all about right? Don’t want anyone lost or left out or looking for a place to eat or sleep.
I am so blessed right now… I am about to embark on a journey that will be a bright spot on my heart as well as connecting to physically (to those who will be there) and spiritually (with those who are unable to attend but their hearts are bursting with support and strength) to many new friends. Friends that care and are concerned.
I have to run into town and get some shopping done. Yes OMIR I’m getting the CDs mailed out π – and get a few things taken care of before I leave my family for 4 nights.
Janet- you are So effing cool-yes you are blessed- with a sharp mind and a huge heart. 200 eamils this am — good gawd!
Maybe there is a reason why I am shy!
I’m currently sitting out on my second floor screen porch in small town Wisconsin looking out at the wooded park that backs on our yard, sipping hot tea, and doing my daily blog-diving. It’s not a bad way to start a day, even a Monday.
In a little while I’ll have to shut off the modem and plunge into the chapter I need to finish this afternoon. Then I’ll have do another pass through my notes for the writing class I’m teaching starting Wednesday in Minneapolis at the Loft literary center. It’s the first time I’ve ever had a class all to myself, though I’ve often guest taught for others or done one-off lectures, and it’s a little bit scary.
I oscillate between “how am I ever going to fill all this time with my dubious pearls of wisdom?” And “how can I possibly teach anything important in so few hours?” It makes me all the more grateful for the many talented teachers I’ve had over the years.
So, to any of you out there who have been teachers, let me just say, THANK YOU. You deserve a mighty round of applause.
Advising you to “just relax and be yourself” is about as trite as it gets, but it’s not a bad strategy for teaching. I worked hard to engage my students–I used eye contact, plenty of humor, lots and lots of specific examples to pour some concrete into abstract points. My teaching style was an extension of my personal style and not some “professor” role I assumed for the occasion.
Given that your class is more likely to come in motivated than were the junior college students I taught, you’ll most likely find yourself trying to channel the energy–i.e., keeping one or two people from dominating discussions, drawing out the more reticent folks, etc. And if you’re lucky, when class is over, you’ll find that you’ve learned at least as much as your students have.
Your advice about relaxing mirrors what my wife has said. She’s a university physics prof. I will enjoy this class… I think. I hope. Friends who have taught at the Loft assure me that you’re right about the students’ enthusiasm and tell that’s one of the great joys of teaching those who want to be there, as opposed to those who have to be there. Once I’m started I expect that I will have a lot of fun. It’s the anticipation that’s getting to me.
Hi, Kelly, I haven’t said hi before or welcome so I will do it now. I did follow/read your previous FBC entries so I feel I know a bit about you and also checked out your site…
Good luck on your writing class, never been an actual teacher, myself, but I consider myself a ‘teacher’ any way, maybe all the years of being a mom…In fact a lot of us are teachers……many on this site for sure.
Hi Ask, the pic in the diary is generic for cafe,
this picture is my grandaughter Michelle and her best girlfriend Sidney and grand’s birthday.
They are like two peas in a pod!
I am so utterly impressed by the outpouring of solidarity in this community and also at kos- all the organizing going on- and the marchsite-WELL DONE PEOPLE!!!!!
I would like to ask a flavor- if you all would like to send my dear husband an Email thanking him for all he has done these last few weeks- for me, for us, for the march, and for Brinnainne’s sponsored family in Austin. He has been an absolute prince. He was so funny yeterday AM – repacking the boxes to send to Austin-“GRRRR I KNOW I can get this down to 3 instead of 4” And he did,of course he did!!
Yes that is the one we use mostly–THANKS!!He would just FREAK if there a whole bunch of emails for him– he is pretty humble- although not in a Uriah Heep kinda way. HEEHEE.
Been a busy morning — got up at 6:15, pulled on the workout clothes and went to the fitness room for a 15 minute workout. Need to start from square 1.5 since I’ve been a couch spud post-vacation, but I’ll get myself back up to speed.
Spouse is at doctor’s, getting the form filled out for the Transitional Work program at his employer and also getting his ears cleared out (he’s been bothered by earwax). Need to hop in the shower so I’ll be ready to go when he gets back…today is take crap to Goodwill and recycling center day. Oh, and need to start my pork chops marinading; he went to the grocery store and got my olive oil for me last night. π
Cali, I think you hold the record for having the most organized life. I marvel as you lay out your plans each day…in fact it is very comforting to read your comments…..knowing someone has it so together.
Everyday when I start to write in the FBC, I think of how you do it and then think if I could write anything like that and the answer is always no. I rarely have any plans…..except to read and write on the computer.
I should probably add a tag line: “Subject to change without notice” like they have in TV Guide. π
Actually got a bit done today; when the spouse got back, he ended up napping for a bit, then it was my turn to crash, so we didn’t get out of here till about 1. Mainly went out to breakfast/lunch (I had lunch, spouse had breakfast), then went to Target and Borders (Target to pick up some necessities, Borders to get some magazines mostly). Tomorrow will be recycling/Goodwill day, then come back here to do some serious cleaning — means tonight we’re in bed at 10 as soon as the Keith repeat is over.
I feel like if I declare my intentions, I’ve got a better shot of them actually coming true…like a few months ago when I declared my intention to see the end of the Republican domination of Congress and the end of the Bush regime. π
Will probably have dinner late again — neither of us are hungry yet, so the pork chops are happily marinating. And tomorrow is a slow cooker meal, so that makes me happy… π
Have a good evening, folks…I’m ready for some football…
Avast, Mateys! Stand by to be boarded! It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day. Fortunately they don’t have a dress like a pirate day. Unless we count Mardi Gras.
I’m working in the shop and revelling over a stack of parts roughed out by Mrs. Gooserock who’s now working with me two days a week. But I hear the Lunch Toto has barked so I’ll grab a sandwich before doing some packing.
Hi Shycat, care to explain that perplexing comment?
And how are you doing, in high spirits lately it seems as I have read your comments around the blog o sphere. Hugs to you and hubby for all that you have done!
Oops sorry – non boat people might not get that– the ‘cabin boy ‘ was the errr- how can I put it?– ‘bottom’ for all the crew, way back then and prolly now for all I know. Anyway, one of my ex -b/fs used to call me that. See why I left him?
Since the pirate thing seems to be the thing today– that was one of their grrrrowls– cabin boy! Was kind of a surprise to see CabinGirl using that nick- because of the connotations it carries,at least for me.Splained enough?
Whatcha got that’s really refreshing? Maybe frozen lime daiquiris? Je suis fatiguee! Just a candle on my table please, my eyes need to stay adjusted to the dark interior shuttered house condidtions.
Make that a scented candle. All I smell is mown grass. For some reason my bum still feels like it’s movin’ around on the back of the tractor. Cut it short before a storm and the yard dries out faster.
That daiquiri oughta numb me up just right. Then I’ll sit back for Round II with Rita. Let ‘er blow!
Oh, and could I have two blocks of ice to go? Just in case.
Cafe is open, coffee and doughnuts over by the window.
Mornin’ everyone, come on in.
I feel like the White Rabbit today, I’m late I’m late.

Hi Janet, long time since I talked directly to you, so wanted to say hi. I look forward to all the reports of the DC event…

Good morning, Diane,
What’s the pic you posted?
Ahh, too much work, it’s Monday. I miss vacation already:

Anyway, will go down to Union Square during lunch break (extended) to hear Cindy Sheehan.
Hi Ask, the pic in the diary is generic for cafe,
this picture is my grandaughter Michelle and her best girlfriend Sidney and grand’s birthday.
They are like two peas in a pod!
AWWW aren’t they cute? Oh, to be young again and have your bestest buddy RIGHT THERE.
OK. A family outing seems very appropriate.
And those two cuties – let’s get the world back on track for them and their generation.
Indeed-keep on keepin’ on.
I am so utterly impressed by the outpouring of solidarity in this community and also at kos- all the organizing going on- and the marchsite-WELL DONE PEOPLE!!!!!
What march? I am totally clueless.
Sept. 24th in Washington DC and other cities around the country, a protest of the war and now a protest of the Pres. i.e. Impeachment!!!!
Do you know what other cities are holding a march?
SF, LA, think NY, San diego, probably many big cities, where are you?
Detroit – actually Windsor, Canada (just across the water). Also, with a baby that cannot travel to the US.
I would like to ask a flavor- if you all would like to send my dear husband an Email thanking him for all he has done these last few weeks- for me, for us, for the march, and for Brinnainne’s sponsored family in Austin. Hi, Shycat. We should send our e’s to the painebill addy?
Yes that is the one we use mostly–THANKS!!He would just FREAK if there a whole bunch of emails for him– he is pretty humble- although not in a Uriah Heep kinda way. HEEHEE.
Oh yeah –and nobody is allowed to call him ‘baby man’ cept me—LMAO
Oh dear kansas , you just made me cry-in a GOOD way– TY.

I am enjoying my new career as a facilitator of insurrectionists. π
You were born to do it!

Arrrrrr, sorry I am that I missed another day to indulge my inner pirate. Y’know, even in my 30s, Treasure Island remains my favorite book.
I really, really, don’t want to be called ‘Cabin Boy ‘ ever again.
Hi Shycat, care to explain that perplexing comment?
And how are you doing, in high spirits lately it seems as I have read your comments around the blog o sphere. Hugs to you and hubby for all that you have done!
I am doing much better now Diane, than I was two weeks ago- ,thanks for asking!
Oops sorry – non boat people might not get that– the ‘cabin boy ‘ was the errr- how can I put it?– ‘bottom’ for all the crew, way back then and prolly now for all I know. Anyway, one of my ex -b/fs used to call me that. See why I left him?
Shy, honey, we live in a log cabin…sorry for the off-color images it conjures up…
I could be called woodstove girl π
CG- I live in log house also– its the pirate thing is all -:)
Did I mention that one of my dear friends goes by Captain Matty Bangs? π
very funny! it is to laugh!
OMG-there can’t be very many survivors who remember Daffy Duck.(snicker)
Since the pirate thing seems to be the thing today– that was one of their grrrrowls– cabin boy! Was kind of a surprise to see CabinGirl using that nick- because of the connotations it carries,at least for me.Splained enough?
Splained enough, shycat, I first thought it had something to do with Cabin Girl….lol…but couldn’t put a scenario together in my mind…
You don’t wanna know,believe me.
Are you suggesting a name change for me????
Oh dear- i hope you read my comments–
Thanks to Renaf

Your name has always reminded me of the Bright Lights Candle factory down the road. It’s run by the Adi Dan (sp) they have fantastic candles.
Margarita
Daiquiri
Pino Colada…
Lime, even, I think π
Stay safe my friend.
Looks good for us. Spouse says while putting up shutters, “Throw enuff +2 armor on the house and it makes ’em turn away.”
We paractice hurricane aversion therapy. Must be all that metal.
Seriously, don’t think this is gonna bite us. All digits crossed. And thanks! (Bet that candle business is booming.)
Barkeep! I’ll have a glass of port, if you please. Organizing is thirsty work.
I think I need a need a whole keg about now…
So who’s putting up the “Anti War Slogan Contest Diary”? The winners get to appear prominently on BooTrib march signs…
Damnit Janet???? Yoo-hoo!
We need to get bood working on that one, I think.
Seen the front page lately?
Saves me the trouble!
Our work is done.
Sunset, Vancouver, BC
Peace
Awesome dada! Thx. Peace to you
