He’s in jail. No. Seriously, he is at the bar with BostonJoe, MLK19569, CabinGirl and her kids (!), Dammit Janet, MaryScott O’Conner and her husband, salunga, Steven D and his son, BrotherFeldspar and more. Update [2005-9-23 18:43:20 by susanhu]: And I just talked to ALL of them!
They’re taking photos of each other and promise to e-mail them to us tonight!
ALSO — and this is significant — BooMan could not get a regular train ticket for the 2 o’clock, 3 o’clock, 4 o’clock, 5 o’clock trains from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C.
All sold out! You know what THAT means!
So that he wouldn’t be late for the gathering, BooMan ended up buying a $110 one-way ticket in the business class on the train. (He said it was very nice, of course, but a bit pricey!)
I told BooMan about this diary: Bush Extends Nat’l State of Emergency – Military in Streets of DC,” over at DKos. “a Washington Post columnist tells us that yesterday was the kickoff of “GRANITE SHADOW”, a massive Pentagon exercise simulating the declaration of a martial law in Washington, DC. Military special forces and intelligence officers have, in fact, been deployed in force — wearing civilian clothes — in the streets of the capitol.”
I also talked to Boston Joe, who is really sloshed. No … but he says he’s gettin’ there. He said that MLK brought a computer, and I made him promise to send us those photos pronto.
Update [2005-9-23 19:32:11 by susanhu]: I almost forgot dc.indymedia.org‘s site:

AND: Visit “It’s the “Official BooTrib DC March Plans” Diary!,” full of details, where other marchers are, and more.
if I misspelled anyone’s name, let me know quick! I couldn’t remember the numbers after MLK’s name and can’t find them via the search engine.
now granted, I didn’t get there until about 5:45 — I did teach today, and had to ahve a soccer practice. Also there was Maryscott O’C. It was interesting to have a chance to finally meet face to face with people with whom one has had an ongoing electronic relationship.
Diary with pictures posted here
YIPPEE! HAVE FUN! BE CAREFUL! MOON THE WHITE HOUSE! (well maybe not) BUT GIVE ‘EM HELL !
Now that is truly a drinking liberally crowd!
Thanks for keeping us posted…I’ll keep checking all weekend for updates.
and better tasting than Kool-aid I bet…
post immediately…it will be amazing how fast I can come up some cash for that crowd.
My heart almost stopped when I read the “he’s in jail” part….
I wish I was there!!!
I hope that everyone avoids any “simulated arrests” in the military excercizes…
.
Leaves VP Cheney alone in the Command Bunker with communication lines – hope they link all CCTVs for an excellent view of the protest demonstration.
I have updated my diary with excellent article published today in The Independent ::
▼ ▼ ▼ READ MY DIARY
Great news…thanks for the updates Suboo. When did he leave Philly? Today? I hope they all have a great time. There is a dairy up at Dkos about the military in the streets of DC..I gotta go read it. I know the trains that leave DC on a friday are normally packed, but sold out going into DC on a Friday is nuts..I think it’s gonna be HUGE.
This is so exciting. i feel like I am there. Tell Booman to give everyone and anyone a hug from Leezy! And tell Maryscott we expect some Outragous RANTS from her in front of the White House. George is such a fucking coward. He would rather face a hurricane than face Cindy and ONE MILLION PEOPLE!!!!!Brrraaaaaaaaaaaahhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
It was SOOOOO noisy in there that it was hard to talk, but it was great fun!
Pictures, pictures we want pictures!!!!!
MLK PROMISED she’s putting some up tonight herself!
I’m excited for them all, and us too. Thanks so much for keeping us posted Susan!
Don’t DO that!
Are you Boo’s real mom?
Thanks for good news.
Keep posting!
WAaaaa….WAaaaa……
I’m just now walking out the door to drive down tonight. I couldn’t get the day off but will be with them all in the morning for breakfast and some exercise ;o)
Martial law? They aren’t gonna know what hit them!
Wish me luck! I’m hittin the road :o)
Luck and love and hugs and peace Brother! Be good now ya hear me?
You rock!
Have a wonderful time….hugs to everyone!
Hey susan…can we keep this at the top of the front page for the weekend for easy access to updates? Unless of course it gets too big. I have to go out for dinner in a bit but will keep checking in.
I am also putting this out there one more time. ANYONE in the vicinity of San Diego….would LOVE tohave you join me at the rally here tomorrow at 2pm.
alohaleezyatsbcglobaldotnet will get you my email.
I’d welcome suggestions on how to handle the top of the site.
We have two major events tonight and through the weekend:
How would you like those handled?
Two short posts with the content mostly in the title? — Just set up for comments?
And let people post stories and comments.
If anybody has one they want more focus on, they can make a diary and pimp it in those threads.
I can imagine a lot of info flowing into the site this weekend.
Bauhaus or Shaker?
(this is great … it’s a plan. So no other competing stories or promoted diaries until maybe Sunday?)
NOW TELL ME –>
When do we implement this plan? Now? With fresh threads, as needed? Later tonight?
What should you do about posting the photos. I imagine they will take up some space, at least I’m hoping we get that many visuals…
peasantry like me?
since all the threads will fatten…
is to set them up like this on the front page:
Perfect suggestion…
The safety of the gulf coast first.
March diaries follow.
Everything else is near meaningless at this point.
Oh noooooo … that means I’ll have to do work, and I’m feeling so lazy.
Okay. it is great.
(Again: If any of you wish to do this, I’ll promote you! Hint.)
help!
What do you mean by locked out?
I just promoted both of your diaries. I like how you just get ON WITH IT!
(If you want to add links, as emjw suggested, feel free. Just go for it.)
After storm, when I made march it said posting limit exceeded and if you keep trying the period will double go and drink coffee.
By stories, are you all thinking of:
IF you have suggestions for what should be listed in the story, please e-mail me. Diane101 has already been doing that with me today — she’s been e-mailing me the URLs of diaries she thinks I should look at, and possibly feature. She’s been a big help with that.
I was thinking diaries, but I guess linking to stories would make sense too.
Maybe separate those out too?
But maybe that is too much work?
It’s your world Susan…we just live in it π
I can resize one image for each thread? I’d sure love some help with finding just the right photos … and we can circulate different photos throughout the day and night.
I think I’d better get the first set up sometime this evening. It’s 5:30pm here now. I didn’t take a nap, and have a cold, so if I lie down to watch TV, I may fall asleep!
Anyone see any good photos re Rita? They can be of anything relating to the storm — whatever strikes you as powerful, and a reflection of something important about the stories.
Oh, some guy at DailyKos just posted an incredible diary … BigdaddyTX — My Blind Date with Rita, Part 2. Oy.
He had that up the other day. It’s scary reading about his experiences trying to leave. He’s given us all a very personal account of what they’re going through right now.
Definitely Shaker. They were antiwar, too.
Ongoing threads are a great idea. Hooray for BooMan for calling, and hooray for everyone who’s there. Dammit, Janet, you got there! π
Such good news that they’re all there and everybody connected. And I just heard from friends who left Houston yesterday–was worried that they were stuck in traffic, but they’re safe in Austin. Yay!
I’ll be glued to this all day tomorrow. Keep the pictures small though, huh? for those of us on dialup.
When Janet got on the phone with me, I shouted, “Dammit, Janet!”
(She’ll probably hear that all weekend long :):))
.
I love to address her …
instead of using a cuss word.
Her nick name is correctly spelled Damnit Janet.
Another devastating hurricane approaching …
Washington DC on the 24th :: MARCH ON!
If George puts FEMA in charge to quell protest, at least we know they will be ready by the 30th and have spend a billion.
▼ ▼ ▼
AND! If any of you wishes to start up such a thread, I’ll gladly promote it. (Do e-mail me to alert me, however, since I don’t check the Recent Diaries except about once an hour. More if I have time.)
Sorry I didn’t respsond Susan. Looks like you and Duckie got it all figured out….perfectly imho. This is so awesome. Aren’t we all just wonderful spiritual human beings? Damn I am so hyper right now. Hope I can sleep tonight.
Lyrics to “Peace Train”
Ducky (can I call you Ducky? I want to) …
be sure to link your diary here so they’re sure to see it. It’ll rev them up. It’s so terrible though π
I don’t know which diary you mean, so here are two, one to rev them up, and one that is terrible.
For Those Who Will March, I Ask a Favor
New Accounts of Torture by U.S. Troops
They probably saw the first one before they left for D.C. but they haven’t seen the second, terrible story.
Thanks.
It makes me want to take a bath. π
Do you have a yellow ducky?
It was a gift. I hope I have not compromised my personal security by revealing this.
I really needed that π
You know being part(a very small part as anyone who knows me here knows I’ve never done a diary..just small posts)of this particular community is just well, swell…of course I coulda said fucken awesome but thought I’d stay polite for a few minutes anyway…
Especially for people like myself(being partially disabled and without funds(ha an understatement)having these diaries and hearing about people I know who are able to be part of something bigger than each of us separately, and be able to hear about them and what they are doing in almost real time is for me great beyond words really.
So I can’t wait for more info and pictures..that’ll be doubly fucken awesome, I mean swell.
And who comes up with those names anyway..’Granite Shadow’? Probably have to pay someones nephew a couple hundred thousand a year I bet for those stupid monikers. And do they go down the alphabet like they do for naming hurricanes?
I think it was MLK who got on the phone with me and thought I was Chocolate Ink … I said, Nope, it’s Susanhu … and I think she was disappointed :):)
Hope she can call you too!
I think they were all using Cabin Girl’s cell phone. I got passed around so much, I thought I was at the Playboy mansion.
I think your way too modest susan, who wouldn’t want to talk to you..she probably said she wanted a chocolate drink…and thanks for the laugh, playboy mansion indeed.
Also give your daughter a special birthday hello for me..my birthday is the 26th as well.
Hey chocolate, no ‘small posts syndrome’ for you, some of your comments are diaries and very good ones at that, so it’s just you have never done a formal diary.
Check my site for the link to ‘Virtual March on Washington’ we can all do on Mon. morning.
hi diane..ok will go over to the Village, I promise.
Probably
the same people who came up with the short-lived “Operation Iraqi Liberation.”
I’m so jealous! It’s great that they all get to meet up, but I sure wish I could have been there.
My daughter and I are heading to SF tomorrow and thanks to Ductape, I called another friend last night and he will join us! We’re hoping to meet up with a small contingent of Tribbers as well.
I’d be there with you in my family kilt to give a big Braveheart Salute to The Peoples’ Owners’ House.
Poor BooMan! He probably could have flown for less. Oh well, I guess that he’ll need to sell more T-shirts. π
And maybe put an Open thread below those two so people can talk about whatever else, pimp diaries, etc?
That was supposed to be attached to this.
I am sooooooooo jealous.
when I left the place at about 9:30, so I knew the bit about jail was a joke.
Tonight was just a fun get-together. The real business is tomorrow.
Getting up, that is, for a 9am breakfast.
So wish you all could be here. This evening was amazing, not the least of which for talking to the one & only susanhu, tho I could only hear about a third of what she said. “Granite” something-or-other. I fear them not. This march will be far bigger than expectations, I promise you.
The only word of concern was that Military Tracy had to turn back to Alabama — had forgotten some important papers, I hear — and was due in late this evening. By 10:30pm (EDT) she was still a no-show, and calls to her cellphone went to voicemail. We pray she is OK. She is due for a surprise when she finally checks in, however; we stuck BooMan in her room.
Enjoy mlk’s pics, and there are more due from CabinGirl. I’ll take a ton of pics tomorrow and will post them tomorrow evening. BTW, there are flocks of people arriving in town for this march, and Damnit Janet has met just about all of them. Perhaps it’s just the pints of ale talking, but this town has very good vibes this evening. Tomorrow will mark the beginning of something big.
Now I lay my throbbing head to rest,
your Brother.
our local Pacifica radio station, KPFA (94.1FM) is covering both the DC protests (probably picking up Pacifica’s DC station’s feed), then will be covering the SF protest.
Looks like they may stream over the Internet, so you might want to check it out tomorrow morning (I think their broadcast is starting at 8am Pacific)…
if Air America may have some coverage; I know the local AAR station is going to be reporting LIVE from the SF event…
