Would you like to vote on the name of our new book club?
Here’s the link to the diary with the poll:
LINK:
I think I was the first person to vote…
Ooo, I’ll run quick and see what you voted for. Guess it’s not a secret vote. 😉
Mine’s in second place right now…I went with the frog marching theme…Book ‘Em
So did I.
Too late. Other people voted and hid your vote! I’d be very happy with either of the ones that are neck ‘n’ neck right now.
I didn’t vote ’cause I am partial to “reader ribbit”…
Didn’t even see that scroll by. A book club sounds like fun, regardless of the name you guys and gals choose.
I’m surprised that today’s ruling ordering the release of the Abu Ghraib photos hasn’t generated more heat around here. Earlier, less consequential, stages of the litigation seemed to provoke more discussion than this victory.
BMT user Nag posted a diary on this earlier, but the comments have slowed to a trickle. Even the mainstream media realizes that this is a big story . . .
is will be appealed all the way to the SCOTUS. It’s news, but don’t expect to see the pictures any time soon.
I’m not saying that this needed to be front-paged, only that I’m surprised that more folks here didn’t jump on this. I’ll point back to these earlier stories for comparison:
Those are just ones which were on the front page. (Please don’t think I’m trying to be nitpicky about this.) But you’re absolutely correct in stating that this will ultimately end up before the Supremes (and I have to think that even with Roberts and the next unknown, they would grant certiorari). Their position regarding FOIA requests is not great, of course — witness the Cheney Energy Task Force lawsuits.
I try not to deal with stories in the SCLM when they actually choose to cover something, other than clicking on the stories and rating them up… And sending them an occasional Email when they do a good job for me.
The issues I worry more about are the ones they refuse to cover! lol
to Bennett is spot on.
It’s 2005. And at some point, let’s get real, if this is what conservatives say in public…on the public airwaves…what are they saying in private?
Does it link in my mind to our new Supreme Court Chief Justice? Not specifically. But underneath, yes. This was the “other news story” the day he was confirmed.
Fwiw, the professor who taught the Supreme Court in American Politics course I attended was always extremely clear how the poltiical climate of the day had shaped Justices worlds views. They don’t decide cases in a vacuum.
Bill Bennett was the United States Secretary of Education friends. He served as the Drug Czar under the first President Bush. This is not some looney right wing fringe radio host; this racist sickness goes right up to the top of our government.
Our leaders in DC need to understand this, including our new Chief Justice.
LOL!
Did all of you who use the word “heh” know that you are invoking the name of an Egyptian God?
heh=god of infinity — now that is hilarious!
Frog-headed, eh? (is there a god “eh” too?)
I wish I could give you a 5 just for knowing that.
Saw that Heh was an Egyptian God at the LACMA King Tut exhibit last weekend. Looked up the detailed info online.
hahahaha.
Had to laugh.
We want to raise money to pay Zogby International to ask the “Impeach Question” again… And other stuff.
Check out my diary for info on that, as well as some new polling numbers released this morning.
Many of us want these polling questions asked… Let’s take matters in our own hands and get the job done.
Read it and and tell me what you think… Both the good and the bad!
What are you waiting for? Click me damnit!
for this most excellent blog, which I confess that before today I was wholly unaware of. I don’t spend much time on dKos anymore, for all the reasons you very convincingly articulated in your ‘On Fraudsters, Hippies [etc.]’ post, but fortunately I still do occasionally peruse the diary headings in the course of my daily excursions. So lo and behold I discover that you’ve already built quite a thriving little community over here, and I for one am very impressed with the results of your efforts.
Not to mention any names, but up to now all the more unapologetically lefty blogs I’ve stumbled upon struck me as either too chaotic or too quirky (or both), but like the baby bear’s porridge, this one seems to get it just about right. Well, for my tastes at least.
Anyhoo, I’m definitely looking forward to getting connected with a vibrant left-leaning online community again, after feeling increasingly disenchanted with blogs like dKos and MyDD in the past couple of years, and most especially in the aftermath of the 2004 election. So thank you again, and here’s to (hopefully) better times ahead for all of us.
BTW, some people here might (in the dim recesses of their memories) recall my occasional dKos postings under the name of ‘nattering nabob’ – how I transmogrified into Red Harvest is a story for another time, but rest assured I’m still as bitter, sarcastic, cynical and acerbic as ever. Come to think of it, perhaps even more so!
glad to have you here. I remember a nattering nabob. That was an Agnewism via Buchanan, right? Or was it via Safire?

Hmmm… me suspects we’ve seen this name before…
“Welcome to the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.” –Harry Caray
Just for showing up…
I was trying to remember the main rule for this blog…
I think it is:
“You can prick your finger… But you can’t finger your prick…”
No wait… that was one of George Carlin’s “7 words you can’t say on television”…
Oh well! I am sure someone will remember it and post it…
I remember your former name! Welcome to the Frog Pond. I hope you’ll visit our daily cafe that goes by the name of Froggy Bottom Cafe.
to all of you for your warm welcomes and generous 4’s. Even after spending all of 90 minutes reading thru the posts here, I’m already aware of a distinctly different ‘vibe’ than that which seems to permeate that other, um… well, let’s just say ‘Brand X’ site. That is, friendlier, more inclusive, more tolerant, less ideologically rigid and less self-righteous. Refreshing and encouraging – you folks have definitely made my day.
Hopefully I am now a nattering nabob of negativism no longer, but have instead progressed to the level of a hopeless, hysterical hypochondriac of history!

for pointing me to that diary. A very compelling and very profound story indeed. It called to mind the words of another wise Native American holy man:
It is in the darkness of their eyes that men get lost. – Black Elk
Getting annoyed with the huge amount of attention being payed to all those poor, poor millionaires’ homes outside of LA.
I mean, it really does suck, don’t get me wrong. But wildfires happen down there every friggin’ year, often threatening homes, and every year the news treats it like an unprecedented catastrophe. I mean, saying “Late summer wildfires break out in California!” is a little bit like saying “Breaking: Planet Spins!”.
I swear that earlier I heard a news blurb say “Wildfires destroy southern california!” as though everything below Fresno had suddenly become one gigantic fireball.
First off, thank you for saying it all mattered. Truly, I about fell out of my chair when I saw the links from here to there and from there to here. I am beyond honored that you had my itty bitty diary amongst those others to show that something so amazing did matter. Thank you.
Secondly, I think the Frog Store needs Booman Boxers. 🙂 You’ve created a trend Mr. Itty Bitty Polka Dottie BoxersMan. ((((((((Booman)))))))))))
Froggy boxers!! Too funny, DJ. Great idea, actually. I bet they’d sell. Wolverine, did you see that?
Wolverine called me today on the way home from work.
He thinks we should sell autographed and framed posters of the boxer incident at hyper-inflated prices. Always thinking, that one.
Seriously 🙂
Boxers are non-gendered. I wear boxers around the house instead pjs (not that I really wear pjs) but you know what I mean.
Boxers are fantastic. Grey with a froggy on the lower side. They’d sell. 🙂
Especially right before marches or protests for all those people headed out to share rooms 🙂
Who is Wolverine?
Wolverine. . .actually, Wolverine Writer, I believe. . .is an old friend of BooMan’s who knows many secrets, heh. Also he runs (owns?) The Tee Pad Sporting Goods store that contains the BooMan Tribune store.

Worthwhile Reading On Saturday’s Washington Peace March and his letter of protest:
Peace Protestors Held Handcuffed in Buses For Over 12 Hours
I wanted me to share with you a letter I wrote to the Chief of the United States Park Police regarding the treatment of the 384 protestors arrested outside the White House yesterday, many of whom were held, handcuffed, for over 12 hours on a bus.
