There is no real theme to my diary, I just chose my favorites. Adversity followed me throughout the making of this diary; my dial up connection is acting up royally. It took me 4 hours to upload my 10 pictures today, I’m fried.
In keeping with the concept of being dial-up friendly, my larger images are only 600 pixels wide.
Bleeding Hearts
I love bleeding hearts, they are so delicate.
Your photos are brilliant! I love bleeding hearts too. They like little jewels hanging there. Gorgeous colour w/ this photo. And your animal photos are wonderful – love the snowy egret!
Olivia, perhaps I was so blown away by your photos because I also love to set the camera on macro and get close and personal with my subjects. Thank you so much for the comment, it really makes me happy that I was able to participate in the PhotoFair. I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Spring Peeper
This was taken at night, in my garden, with flashlight in one hand and digital camera in the other. You can imagine how many shots I had to take to get a few good ones. This is my favorite. Keep in mind that these tree frogs are about 1 1/2″ from end to end!
And they are beautiful to the ear as well as the eye. I have often heard them….but never have I seen them.
Terrific photo and a testament to your patience. We live out in the country and have abundance of these but it has never occurred to me to try to get one of them to pose.
The hardest part is finding the darn things. Luckily, they make an incredible racket!
That`s one smug looking frog.I tried to find one in the garden once & I kept looking for a 2 foot long one. When I finally located him, he was croaking from inside the trumpet of a bromeliade, sounding like a bullhorn.
Nice pic.
Goslings
A few springs ago my mother in law was so excited about the little “gooselets” in our pond. Since then, we always call the spring brood “the gooselets”.
Fawn
This little one spent last summer hanging around in our pasture with his Momma. This is about the closest I ever got.
Such an interesting pattern to the spots. Looks like a lacey blanket were tossed across her back. I’ve not noticed that before on fawns. Lovely.
Great photo! Your fawn is alert, knows you are there, but has no obvious fear of humans yet, just innocent curiosity.
Snowy Egret
This egret is in the process of swallowing lunch. It had just snagged a fish and if you look closly you can see the lump in it’s neck… the fish going down.
Patience truly IS a virtue for photographers. Great shot!
Moody surf
This was the first time I was at the shore during the winter months and I was mystified at how strong the surf was. The lighting would change from moment to moment; I was lucky to get this shot.
Assateague Pony
This georgous little stud was one of my first introductions to the wonderful ponies of Assateague Island, Md.
As a child I was always horse crazy (still am). I had a book about the ponies of Chinkoteague. Is that another nearby island? This is an exquisite photo…so full of life and the love of life. Very handsome!
Puget4, thank you for your kind remarks. The northernmost tip of Assateague island is just across a narrow channel from Ocean City, Maryland. It is a narrow strip of barrier island that extends south into Virginia. The southern tip of the island is called Chincoteague Island. There are ponies throughout. Assateague’s beach is one of the top 10 on the east coast and is incredibly beautiful. Chincoteague has large salt marshes and is on the coastal flyway for thousands of shore birds and is breathtaking. The whole area is a place of wonderment to me and is why, I suppose, many of my photos are from those areas.
Shells
I especially like this one too. I’m fascinated by how others see the world through their lens.
I absolutely agree with you, NDD. I have been mesmerized by the wonderfully different ways people see the world. The photo fair has allowed us to experience that in a visual way. It’s been a wonderful experience for me.
Momma and Baby
These two ponies from Chincoteague, Va were very willing subjects.
Ah Ha!! There they are! the ponies of Chincoteague. Thank you. This is probably the closest I’ll come to getting to visit them for real. Lovely photo
Chincoteague Ponies
These hardy little ponies are grazing in the salt marshes of Chincoteague Island, Va..
Now I’ve got it!! The book was called ‘Misty of Chincoteague’. I used to dream of someday going to the island to find my own “Misty”. Thanks so much for bringing back this lovely memory for me
When I was a kid, these books were my obsession, joy, sustenance, and dream-makers. I think I can still make myself cry just thinking about Black Gold.
Your horse pictures are very good but I was hoping for some of your own horses (like the new girl – bella?– you had the picture of the other day) but since you are having dialup connections woes, I won’t be pushy about it. Maybe you’ll post some in one of the cafes?
Thanks Andi, Yes, my new mare’s name is Bella. I promise you that I will post some pictures of my horses in the cafe. You made my day for asking. 😉
My kid loved the pics of the horses. I showed them to her this morning and printed out a couple for her to take with us today. She showed everyone “her horses”.
