A day for solemn remembrance for all the many millions of Native Peoples lost for the murderous greed of the European invaders who are still held up as dicoverers and ignorantly worshiped with a holiday.
I absolutely refuse and have for years to ‘honor’ Columbus..and on my calendar every year I mark that day with nasty signs-(my calendar serves as a mini diary which I write on and have saved my calendars for at least 15 years now).
I can’t for the life of me understand why this is still considered a holiday…truly disgusting and more stupid wrong history young students are getting in our school system.
FYI, c-span has mr hamburger on discussing val plame this am…he is from the la times. Isnt it interesting to hear this???? I hope that this week begings the end of this mess. I hope we hear some real context on this investigation and soon…..
Yep,I’m up and happy to find this in a news round up from Slate:
In about a half-dozen Senate races, GOP-central’s top picks all have taken a pass. Candidates “aren’t stupid,” said one Republican pollster. “They see the political landscape. You are asking them to make a huge personal sacrifice. It’s a lot easier to make that sacrifice if you think there’s a rainbow at the end.”
It looks a lot like a meandering stock of Bush to any question about Iraq. And not without lies:
The constitution may not be perfect. But, as the commentator Amir Taheri points out: “This is still the most democratic constitution offered to any Muslim nation so far.”
This may be insulting to two largets Muslim countries, Indonesia and Malaisia.
“I liked what the Marines stood for. I thought it was a great deal. And I trusted him.”
He enlisted in April. He said that when he asked if his parents could review the contract, he was told there was not time. He admitted he erred by not reading the fine print, but said he had faith that the recruiter guided him fairly.
A short time later, his recruiter learned Shepard’s score on the military entrance exam. Brian Shepard said the older man told him he would not be able to get the technician job he had hoped for, but did not mention his failure to qualify for the four-year delayed entry option.
He finished high school and started boot camp in mid-June. He graduated from boot camp Sept. 2, with his parents watching proudly, and started college four days later. He said it was not until two weeks ago, when he reported to Fort Devens in Ayer for his first weekend training session, that he learned he had no special status and could be shipped to Iraq at any time.
A week later, a phone message left for him by a Marine Corps communications officer shattered his dream of college. In January, his reserve unit will head to California for three months of training, then to Iraq.
I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around 30K+ people dead in the Pakistani earthquake. Whole towns and villages collapsed into rubble with their inhabitants buried beneath. It’s so horrifying that it makes my mind go blank trying to process it.
And Bush is sending $100K in aid. Hmmm… let’s see, that works out to $3.33 per life lost — less as the number goes up. It’s spit in an ocean. How many survivors are there? That’s what I really need to know. How many displaced and homeless people need food, water and shelter?
Why are disasters always measured by the lives lost? The dead don’t suffer.
Eight helicopters were flown in from Afghanistan a few hours ago, and are indispensable to carry troops and heavy equipment into remote mountain area, to clear roads from land slides. This is of utmost importance to reach the demolished cities and carry supplies by road with food, tents, medical supplies and mobile medical units for first aid.

The U.S. Ambassador in Pakistan, told the BBC than the U.S. Forces have excellent cooperation with their Pakistani counterparts for further logistics to forward relief supplies from Kuwait, Afghanistan and the Gulf Emirates. In stages the additional relief and aid goods will be airlifted from the States.
If only dogs looked up to their masters the way Harriet looks up to George…
Reminds me of Dan Quayle and Bush Sr. The love and adoration. If only she’d go duck hunting with Cheney it would be perfect.

What is enraging is the ignorance of the comments in the diary.

There’s a similiar article at The Washington Post:

An LA Times opinion article, written by William Shawcross, the aothor of “Allies: Why the West had to Remove Saddam,” says:
Peace is not an answer

If you switched your format to post a Photo Fair Diary:
Part of the instructions is to change autoFormatting to HTML Formatting.
That does not change back automatically. And sometimes you have to reset it to auto a time or two before it sticks. (it’s part of a drop down box)
I should have mentioned that in the Diary Instructions.
