Scary!
Don’t stop celebrating, this is still a HUGE blow to the Bush Administration, and it’s not over yet. Rove’s still under investigation (more on the investigation HERE and on the Fitzgerald press conference HERE).
But. Since Libby submitted his resignation immediately, a replacement will have to be named. The Daily News, anticipating the Libby indictment reported this morning that sources close to Cheney’s office reveal that Libby “will be replaced by Cheney’s current chief counsel, David Addington” about whom Scott Shields says: “to put it kindly, [he’s] a real piece of work.”
Shields quotes liberally from a Washington Post profile:
Even in a White House known for its dedication to conservative philosophy, Addington is known as an ideologue, an adherent of an obscure philosophy called the unitary executive theory that favors an extraordinarily powerful president.

The headlines we SHOULD be seeing:
is also apparently involved in the leak scandal (not that that should surprise anyone).

dKos diarist lambertstrether makes an interesting point about the press conference today in his diary that is currently slipping down the ‘Recent Diaries List’.

What do you guys think? I think that outting a CIA agent is crime enough, but this line of speculation is interesting.
The outing of the front company could have had dire consequences for quite a number of people not all of whom would have been Americans
Yup.

What’s really scary is the fact that I’m sitting outside at a random backyard DJing and my laptop is picking up a wireless connection from a neighboring house. Oh yeah, and I’m dressed in full flower-child hippy peace-activist garb in honor of the costume party that I’m working until midnight. (this afro wig really itches)
Cheers!
that you’re writing on a political blog from a NON-SECURE wireless network!?!
Holy shit dude. I’ll start collecting bail money now, but if your ass ends up in Gitmo, I don’t know if I’ll be able to help!
😉
after posting my location and a pic at the BMT map, I figured it won’t be long now before I’m detained…or they try to deport me to Mexico 😀
(note to DHS, my family was here before your pesky borders were moved north)
I’m on the map too, despite not leaving any comments in that thread…that is a really awesome site.
Borders, schmorders. Let’s just all hang out and party together. Once you party together, you’re like brothers anyway. 😀
–it’s a costume?
Deja vu all over again, (for some of us.)
btw; my computer guru says individuals’ residential wireless is notorious for not being secure, due to either lack of knowledge or too lazy to program it properly.
a picture! (As an old hippy, I will be able to tell you, young ‘un that you are, if your costume is suitably authentic looking. Trying to remember if I ever knew any Latinos with afros.)
Unrelated afro story. Back in the day, I knew someone (white) who lived in a neighborhood that was almost entirely African-American. When his son was in first grade, he was the only white kid in his class. All the other boys had the currently-trendy afros, and had “rakes” to comb them with. Now this little kid was a tow-head, with that fine, thin white-blond hair. But he was very upset that he was the only kid in the class with no rake. So his Dad bought him one, and every morning, off he went, proudly sporting his rake in the back of his jeans pocket.
Somehow that image always makes me smile, when I think of it.
some blue-lensed round glasses ala John Lennon with some crazy flower-print pants and fringed vest. It’s quite the site. I’ll see about snapping a pic before I retire for the night. I may have to go hunting for an afterparty O:-X
Psssssst, Scooter. Did your guys get a photo? We can out him as the Leary-esque, Baez-lovin’, bead-wearin’, bushy-haired hippie he really is!
. . . (no, really)
I usually depend on others to do it and let me reap the benefits. But I actually went to Free Republic to see what they were saying about the day’s events. ‘Bout what you’d expect of course, mostly. Some, amazingly sounding fairly sensible (“Fitz made a good point in his press conference — if witnesses lie, you can’t determine whether there’s a crime. That’s why witnesses can’t be permitted to lie without consequence.”)
But I liked this one:
“The only thing I hold out hope for but is likely just a pipe dream is that the trial will bring forth evidence of a conspiracy against this administration that I know in my gut is the case. Thats the optimist in me, the realist says Fitzgerald is just a not so bright prosecutor who has to get somebody to make a name for himself. He is involving himself in politics under the guise of truth and fairness. President Bush needs to start playing hardball and stop appeasing the lefty’s and the GOP needs to get their act together and start acting Conservative.”

I’m thinking that there must actually be two Planet Earth’s that roughly occupy the same space.
to see a battle of wits between Patrick Fitzgerald and Archon of the East.
I don’t know if I’d get my money’s worth, but…I would 🙂
It would be like one of those Super Bowls where the final score is something like 63-0.
It would be more like a pro team playing a college team 🙂
Pro football team vs. middle school badminton team. From the parallel Planet Earths.
Yeah, I think you’ve got it, must be what they call a parallel universe.
Next week Bush is going to Argentina to take part of the America’s Summit. He is not only going to face MASSIVE protests (even members of Congress there are going to march) but he is going to face a loss in free trade agreement. One article today read: “You can not bully the Mercosur” (ie.the South American Union). He will also have to face Chavez, who I expect is going to say something in his usual lines.
Chavez: The Latin American equivalent of George Galloway
I can hardly wait to see what he has to say next.
I’m still ROFLMAO from his, “Condi is in love with me…” quote.
Please excuse my ignorance but I never understood what ROFLMAO means
Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Ass Off

Rolling On the Floor Laughing My Ass Off.
Here’s a handy acronym dictionary.
I like that one
thanks for the dictionary, I’ve been limping along without it so far… with limited success.
More at my blog. Yes, I have a blog. Doesn’t everyone? I notice that I haven’t posted anything to it since July, before tonight. But it’s a boring Friday night at my house so I figure I might as well blogwhore.
Have they no shame? Actually, the answer is implied in the question: f*** no!
OH GOOD! Poor children are probably too fat anyway. Don’t we have an epidemic on obesity?
(Seriously: One of the worst things I noticed when I tutored/mentored at a poor rural elementary school was that the effects of nutrition were clearly evident in every child. The “well-nourished” children stood out as exceptions.
Not that the heavily subsidized lunch and snack programs helped much. What crap. I bought lunch a few times but it was so gross.)
Last Wednesday I was lecturing on diabetes in my anatomy and physiology class. Then there on the TV after class I see the graphic, “Diabetes up 14% since 2003.”
I mean, sweet Jesus, 2003 was only two years ago.
I always end up preaching when I get to this part of the course – since I teach at a community college, most of my students are headed for nursing, etc. You will be caring for diabetics. Diabetes is an epidemic in this country.
This semester for the first time I went off on a tangent about how diabetes disproportionately affects poor people. How hard it is for poor people to afford healthy food, the lack of decent supermarkets with reasonable prices and a good selection of produce in poor neighborhoods, the logistics of grocery shopping when you have to rely on the bus for transportation. My students chimed in with agreement. They get it. Of course, I’d probably have gotten a different reaction if I were teaching at the university instead of a community college. The privileged classes tend to see it as, “We don’t really have a hunger problem in America – look how many “poor” people are fat.”
[My tangent was inspired by Ductape’s Rantata. Ripples of BooMan diaries spreading out past the blogosphere. Thanks, DF.]
I finaly got the tape of the Nightline from a couple weeks ago — about autism — back from the people who I feed tapes to. E-mail me your address.

The biggest daily tabloid here, Ilta-Sanomat, headlines today “Dick Cheneyn lähtölaskenta alkoi” (Dick Cheney’s departure countdown has begun)
Remember that you read it and didn’t understand it here first 😉
Thank you Sven, that’s the one I’ve been waiting for. Will you dance with me?
Alice – as long as it is not the ‘Humppa’ which is the Finnish version of the Tango. 😉
I prefer freeform flailing and wild abandon as befits my art school provenance.
That’s priceless.
What does alkoi mean? I assume that that’s the noun for something like departure?
Somebody should collect a bunch of those, and we could put them up in an Open Thread.
lähtö = departure or leaving
laskenta = counting
alkoi = has begun
Today I sit here and take a good hard look at things and realize that this a big dent but their vehicle is still driveable. I feel sad and wish that more evidence would come out and I know they are locking everything down possible, then I remember! I remember the CIA and I remember a slew of people who have spent their entire life and career keeping the nation safe and they never cared who was in the oval office, it was still the same job every day. Then these came in and started moving our experts OUT and those really in the know have been getting very scared because they see our national security being weakened by these guys. I think they fucked with the wrong spooks! I think they really pissed off the wrong people. I think this all very very far from over!!!!!!
