Two NY Times stories

Amidst the terrible news from Pakistan, there are other remarkable stories. I wish to bring attention to the following two articles from the NY Times of October 10th.

As Polar Ice Turns to Water, Dreams of Treasure Abound

Bush’s Veil Over History

The first article considers environmental and economical implications of the Arctic ice cap melting. This issue was touched at European Tribune a few times.

The second article is written by Kitty Kelley, the author of the book “The Family: The Real Story of the Bush Dynasty.” It is about the Executive Order 13233, signed by George W. Bush on November 1st, 2001.

God Hands Houston Playoff Victory

If it is true, as a rather large number believe, that God sent the hurricanes crashing into the sinful Gulf coast as punishment, then is it also true that God delivered the first ever playoff victory for the formerly hapless Houston Astros as a reward for their charitable response to the evacuees from Louisiana and Mississippi?

US Debated Military Strikes in Syria

According to an AFP/Yahoo! News article, the US recently debated launching military strikes in Syria at camps allegedly harbouring Iraq war insurgents.

According to Newsweek, Condi Rice “successfully opposed” the strikes at a meeting held Oct 1, 2005. Part of her reasoning was that the UN may soon issue a report blaming Syria for the assassination of former Lebanese premier Rafiq Hariri. The consequences of such a report are unstated.

Tell Us, Why you came to Bootrib. Why you Stay.Pt.2

(Such a good discussion going, so many comments I decided to put up part II.  You can also use this for the overnight cafe if you wish.)

As most of you know we have had a tradition on this site of periodicaly posting a “Tell Us About You” diary.  Well today I want to change that a little and have a ‘Tell Us why you came to booman tribune ‘ diary and then add to that some questions in view of some recent discussions we are having?

 1.  Why did you come

 2.  Why do you stay

 3.  Are you happy with the site

 4.  What problems do you have with the site

 5.  What would you like to see changed

Also please take this chance if you have not done so to ‘tell us about you’ as well.

I will start off by saying I came to Booman for the civility and tranquility and the possibility I would have the nerve to post without fear of attack as I often felt on ‘other’ sites.  The community of spirit that has developed was a bonus I had not anticipated but welcome and love dearly.
I find myself now in the ‘fear of posting’ dilemma; other’s said they felt the same so I thought we need to get this out on the table and talk about it as it is affecting some members on this site.

Please join me in the discussion!!
