Bernanke Should Expect Problems Early In His Term

As Steven Roach notes, the financial markets have made a habit of testing new Fed chiefs:

Alan Greenspan faced a stock market crash two months after he took over in August 1987. Paul Volcker had to cope with a rout in the bond market three months after he became chairman in August 1979. G. William Miller was challenged immediately by a dollar crisis in the spring of 1978. For Arthur Burns, it was the inflation bogie in the early 1970s.

Should the Senate confirm Bernanke, there is no shortage of problems facing the new chairman.

Why I Didn’t Blog Last Night

I spend the evening with a fellow BooMan reader at a Field Hockey Event near the city of Rotterdam. Originally this date was set for an friendly exhibition game Dutch National Team vs. International World Stars playing in the tough Dutch competition.

Just a fortnight ago, an outstanding initiative was presented by Pakistani star player Sohail Abbas, to unite the game with donations to the Relief Aid for Victims of Pakistan’s earthquake. The idea was picked up by a local newspaper Algemeen Dagblad and the National Hockey Association.

The result was amazing – the game would be televised LIVE and many supporters came from corporations, media, TV studios in Hilversum and the local Hockey Club Rotterdam with a new hockey stadium for 8,000 spectators.

Last weekend Kiyosaki appeared on the Foxnews program of Neil Cavuto. Cavuto and his correspondents  were pushing the memo that despite a few strong hurricanes in the last years, people are still eagerly buying real estate along the Atlantic/Caribbean coast. Then Cavuto turned to his guest Kiyosaki. The interview was remarkable. I almost started to write down a transcript. But to save time, I waited for the official Foxnews transcript, which is apparently not coming… So I’m reproducing from memory.
