Blogger Ethics 101

Blogger Ethics 101

I started to write a reply to Chris Bowers in the thread Jerome wrote about his recusal from MyDD. As my reply went along (and became long) I decided to switch to a diary in the hope that more folks will read it and, hopefully, join in a lively and spirited yet friendly, intellectual discussion regarding ethical and civil conduct amongst all of us.

I haven’t participated in or read the vast majority of the Ohio Senate campaign posts. I gather it has gotten uglier then the two conversations (here and Booman Tribune) that I have participated in. I have no interest in getting into the he said, she said nor the relative qualities of the two campaigns.

PlameGate Project: Link Alert

Rove: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Things are about to get interesting.  The Grand Jury met today, it’s possible that indictments were filed quietly, and the air in Washington is rife with the aroma of expectation… or is that fear?

The overwhelming response to the first diary was great.  The only snag is that so few of you who so kindly volunteered to help supplied an email address. So, here’s the first call for help: WE NEED LINKS.

Karl links:

*Links on Karl’s former political antics such as masterminding the nastiest smear campaign’s known in this section of the galaxy.

*Links from some of the recent endless speculation in the media

*Links to opinion pieces

*Links, links, links

General links:

*Links to pieces tying this scandal with the ‘master plan’ before the Iraq war

*Links dealing with logistics: who testified, when, who worked for who, etc

*Links, links, links

Waiting to Exhale

Special Prosecutor Patrick J. Fitzgerald has asked the grand jury investigating the outing of CIA operative Valerie Plame Wilson to indict Vice President Dick Cheney’s chief of staff I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby and Bush’s Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice, lawyers close to the investigation tell RAW STORY.

Fitzgerald has also asked the jury to indict Libby on a second charge: knowingly outing a covert operative, the lawyers said. They said the prosecutor believes that Libby violated a 1982 law that made it illegal to unmask an undercover CIA agent.

If Libby is charged with the 1982 act, that will destroy the Martha Stewart defense. Of course, the Martha Stewart defense isn’t much of a defense. She went to jail.

CNN is reporting that the White House is, ironically, disappointed at news that Fitz may not make any announcements today. Apparently, they are ‘waiting to exhale’, also known as their ‘asses are puckered tight’.

And based on the Washington Post’s editorial on Cheney today, I’d say they are doing a poor job of pre-indictment spin:

As for Mr. Cheney: He will be remembered as the vice president who campaigned for torture.

That’s right, even with his ass on the line for coordinating a conspiracy to violate Joe and Valerie Wilson’s civil rights, Darth Cheney is more interested in making sure torture remains legal.

Romanian TV: The A-Team!

Well in order to ease my pounding headache, I thought I’d watch a little TV.  I haven’t seen much since I’ve lived here since I owned an incredibly old set but a few weeks ago a friend lent me a newer one.

One thing I love about Romania is you never know just what the heck is gonna come on.  And tonight I saw an old episode of the A-Team.  According to the Romanian TV guide (which you can see here if you’re interested), the show I saw tonight aired in 1983.

So, for a complete change of pace from my normal blogging, I will give you an episode recap of a show which hasn’t aired in 23 years.  My apologies if this offends anyone!
