that I wasn’t around when you were looking for me last night. You can find my abject excuses here.
::looks apologetic::
Here!
::sticks out hand with flowers in it::
Tuolumne Falls, Yosemite National Park
Did you have to wrestle the dog by yourself? Is he/she ok? Do you think that you didn’t so much fall asleep on the couch as collapse?
Actually, it was the baby that wanted to play. Me? I knew better than to wear myself out the day before I assume “Host Duties”!
I hope that whatever has to happen to make comments rise to the top of the diary happens for yours. I’d love it if this picture could stay at the top of the diary all day.
Just to remind everyone:
Come On, give her a 4!
Did you have to wrestle the dog by yourself?
Almost — the malamutt kept trying to help.
Is he/she ok?
He’s fine — it was a follow-up for a bacterial skin infection and a yeast infection in his ears.
hope that whatever has to happen to make comments rise to the top of the diary happens for yours.
If your comments move around, go to your settings page. Pick “Comments Preferences” and look at your Sort settings. If you want your comments to be in the order they were created, change the first box to “Ignore Ratings” and the second box to “Oldest First.”
Ahhh, Andi — that was just another way to remind people to scatter the 4s.
Since I didn’t put it in the Diary (and do people read the diaries anymore?)
ooo! Did it drive him crazy?
He’s a coonhound so he’s always got guck in his ears so I’m not sure he noticed the difference but I can definitely say that getting his ears cleaned drives him really crazy. But he’s almost as mellow as marmotdude so none of this has any lasting effect. Well, just see for yourself:
(sigh)
I miss my dog.
I’m sure I can find directions to your local humane society or you can just take yourself of to the Pet Finder Search page and get an online link. (Not to mention that looking at the adoptee pictures is a great time waster).
But, we’re not quite ready to do it.
Mister has been taking care of his elderly mother (who lives on the other side of this duplex), she’s been pretty ill (in fact due home from the hospital today) and that’s stretching our care-giving energies right now.
(And we dream of being able to travel sometime)
sorry about the m-i-l. We’ve been very lucky that the moms are both in reasonable health for women in their eighties (though my mom did have a quintuple bypass a couple years back).
However, my dogs asked me to point out that they ARE the care-givers, people are the care-getters.
And a series of (sober) 4s to everyone!
(pssst — pass ’em along!)
Nice coffee pot!
So, has anyone tried any new recipes from these diaries yet? We did the apple butter bars last week, and now I’m trying to decide what to try this weekend, before the big day…
Could you add the links under here or somewhere? I grabbed the Main ones, but didn’t have time to go through everything.
And I know that A Lot of your Diaries hold some good recipes.
Also — anyone reading this: If you remember diaries where YOU posted a recipe, please post it & I can add it to the list!!!
For any of my hors d’ouervre recipes, it’s probably easier for people to just look through my previous diaries (do a search for diaries by Cabingirl, and include archives).
Thanks for posting the links to the diaries from this month!
Puget4’s Cranberry Relish (Make at least one day ahead of time)
My mother started this one but over the years I’ve evolved it into my own… It has become a favorite wherever I’ve served it.
INGREDIENTS
Cranberries. Fresh, 1 bag;
dump all into a large bowl of water, if they don’t float….don’t eat. My mother used to tell me to squeeze each one gently just to be safe. If it’s soft….don’t eat. Chop them in a food processor, do not puree.
Oranges. Two, sweet;
cut sections into small pieces, seeds and white skin removed. NOTE: If you want to save time, use a can of Mandarine oranges instead. Save juice, use it as the cold liquid when making the Jello.
Jello.
One large package or two small. You can use any “red” flavor but now they have a “cranberry” flavor which is perfect.
Pineapple.
Crushed, one normal size can, drained. Save juice, use it as the cold liquid when making the Jello.
Apple. One, peeled (or not) but cut into smaller than bite sized pieces.
Sugar.
Or other sweetner. To taste. You may not need any with the pineapple and Mandarine oranges plus their juice (see below).
HOW TO DO IT:
Make the jello as directed BUT use the juice from the pineapple and Mandarine oranges for the cold part of the liquid, plus water to make up the required amount.
Add fruit one kind at a time and stir gently. There will be LOTS of fruit.
Add sweetener.
Put into your serving dish. Refrigerate over night.
SERVE:
Note: This will never “set up” into hard jello. Too many goodies in it. Serve as a yummie, beautiful side dish to the turkey dinner. And when any of your guests say they don’t like cranberries, shame them into “trying” it. They will love it.
ENJOY!!
Hi Puget4!!
I just saw your note on yesterday’s diary & added a link for everyone.
(I’ll be making a template from this so it can be reused for the rest of the week if anyone wants it.
I have sick friends…
Was this a Halloween costume? I can’t help but try to find a context for this image. Very funny (me sick?)
I think it is a Halloween costume. Well done!
Another version of this was posted over at feministing and someone pointed out that it was perfect for a very intimate mooning of the guy.
Ha! I’m emailing it to my mother next…
from some kind of feminist or gay event.
The costume is far too lame for Mardi Gras.
Or the parking lot at a NASCAR event? 🙂
Peace
Off to a normal(??) Saturday of running errands with pre-holiday chaos added in! Out of the house in 1/2 an hour then frantic stops for 3 or 4 hours!
One of my weekend projects is to type up some of my ‘gift’ soup recipes. Noodles and spices and things put in jars and then tied with ribbons and recipe added to the ribbon. Maybe I put them in a diary or FBC the next week or so….
Have a great day everyone!
Thanks.
I’d love it if you could post them!
And have fun with your errands. I have an hour or so before I have to sneak off for a while.
Please do post your recipes! Not only would I love to try them, I have a friend who is without funds this Christmas and is at a loss as to what sort of homemade gifts she can put together.
In fact, I’d love to hear everyone’s ideas for homemade gifts–holiday gifts involving less money and more heart.
RH, this is a wonderful idea. Tell you what. I’ll make that the theme of the next Thursday diary after Thanksgiving, unless somebody else does it first. Not that twice wouldn’t also be good.
My son got ill last night at the dinner that we went to poor little bug, he’s still sick….has a fever and such. Got home last night and found that our daughter’s goofy exboyfriend made himself at home in our house, tossed her room, wrote his initials in MY KETCHUP on the driveway….WTF, and then with MY KETCHUP wrote the last name of the guy she went to the basketball game with in the middle of the road in front of the house and followed it with the word “juice”…..I guess it means that he was going to run the kid over or something, and even helped himself to the use of our computer while he was inhouse. We hated calling the police but my husband and I have both seen Endless Love, I personally believe that teenagers are crazy and can’t help it a lot of the time…..their frontal lobes haven’t come in yet! Last night was just a hair too crazy for me though!
Whew! That tops even the crazy teenage stuff I’ve seen.
You sound pretty calm, considering. You did call the police? And take pictures?
How much Ketchup do you keep in your house?
I had another smaller bottle in there but it only has enough in it for a couple of fries. He had to take my cool upside down squirt bottle full of it! My husband took care of things with the police last night, I like the kid. It was a hard thing to do.
Did you mean he came in your house when you weren’t there or she wasn’t there either.
If that is the case that is really bad, and you did the right thing, even if she was there it was bad, but breaking and entering is wayyyyy bad…
The hardest thing for me was getting my girls through their teenage years without a major trauma from boys…one daughter is still married to her teenage years boyfriend, the one we tried to eliminate from her life way back then, but it didn’t work. We have had to put up with someone we didn’t especially care for 13 years now…
We have house keys missing out of the key safe too.
I agree.
That behaviour can turn deadly.
And a B&E is no laughing matter, regardless if all he stole was ketchup.
to burn the house down or something.
is creepy and scary.
We live fairly close to where that young man killed his girlfriend’s parents last weekend before running off to Indiana with her. Why are kids so warped lately? Were they always that weird, and we just never heard about it, or have things just changed that drastically?
Nothing’s changing about our kids in this respect except the available toolkit. My stalker friend was in 1962 or so.
“She knelt down before him pleading for her life.
Please let me be a single girl if I can’t be your wife.”
–Pretty Polly, Appalachian folk song.
I didn’t go to high school, so I guess I missed hearing about the guys like this.
7th-8th grades was when I learned about my friend, but his obsession had started probably in 5th grade when we’d all been in the same classroom.
I went away to a male-only boarding school after that so I wasn’t around a dating scene till I reached college. From that time forward I’ve known of some abusive relationships, but never anything of the stalker ilk.
Whoa. That’s not normal crazy teenage stuff, Tracy. That guy has real issues and could be stalker material. Be careful and document everything, take pictures etc. I have 3 teenage boys and that’s just not normal after a breakup.
No teenage boys over here, so not sure what is the norm sometimes.
in our early teen years. Around the time I began to make sense of all the information we moved away. He was the shy type, his crush was someone he’d never dated, and we were a few years too young for 1-on-1 dating anyways. So it never reached the point of intimidation but I can imagine that behavior evolving in later years.
I agree this behavior is not normal, not healthy and needs to be stopped by authorities asap. Based on my experience with my friend, I’d recommend trying to find some discreet way to keep tabs on the kid after he’s repirmanded or restrained to assure myself that he’s given up and moved on.
For someone who’d broken into my house, I’d need positive assurance that he’s lost interest in my child.
I’m glad he is your daughter’s EX-boyfriend! He sounds like he’s on the “early warning” side of a bad, bad way of dealing with women. I hope he gets his wings clipped in a permanent way by this – and I don’t mean by harsh punishment as much as an attitude change.
!@#$ as if you didn’t have enough to deal with.
People who thoroughly understand the various possible explanations need to evaluate him.
Katie, what a lovely diary today, it looks great, and the coffee is delicious.
Have another cup?
Truthfully, I only drink coffee rarely, because it doesn’t agree with my body, but I used to love it dearly….especially my favorite kona.
That is the cutest coffee pot, katie, where did you find that…
A slow-starting Fall morning at a Puget Sound marina development. At times like this, we don’t even walk the dog without a GPS.
in case she doesn’t come visit today that I loved her panorama that she posted last night — Iknew she would be great at doing them.
Thanks Andi. I’ll have to explain about my photo.
It’s not actually a panorama. It’s a regular photo taken with a “sunset” setting on my Nikon digital then I cropped it to look panoramic. I cheated. 😉
I snapped of about 10 pics of this sunset. Sunsets always boggle my mind. Look away from them for a second and when you look back, they’ve changed!
Trouble was….all ten photos turned out to be good ones. Then I had to choose. Yikes!
It’s still wonderful. And such a terrible problem — having 10 good ones to pick from.
[While I was trying to post earlier, lost my connection somehow — wonder if I can blame the spouse…]
Finally got the spouse off the damn computer — we’ve got too much to do for him to veg today. Sent him off to do his morning walk along with some laundry — we have my mom’s old bedspread, but the ruffle was halfway torn off, so I just cut it all the way off so we could wash the spread; it’ll still be wide enough for this bed, and it’s still in great shape with the ruffle off so it’ll be donateable when we get our new bed.
We ordered the new bed yesterday. Evidently they custom make them at the factory as they’re ordered, so it’ll take about 10-14 days to get it, which gives us plenty of time to get this disaster area cleaned up and get the new bedframe ordered and put together (our apartment is furnished in Early American IKEA). I also need to contact a local charity my mom-in-law recommended that takes furniture donations and gives them to folks that are coming out of homelessness and need furniture. (The bed’s in great shape, just too small).
Today’s agenda: breakfast out, taking stuff to Goodwill and recycling center, getting our holiday haircuts (mine’s just a trim), and stopping by the record store because I want to get a “Complete Messiah” before the holiday season. (Most of the best arias never make the “highlights” CDs…) Oh, and also grocery shopping; need to get the ingredients for the slow-cooker bean soup I’m making tomorrow (have to soak the beans overnight), and we got a grocery bag with our paper to fill up for Second Harvest, which can be dropped off at the same store we shop at.
Okay, while the spouse is off exercising, time for me to get some exercise by doing some housework…
Hi Cali!
I’m back from my errand. Are you ready for a coffee break?
I love the coffee pot!
Have yard bags, must rake.
See you guys later.
Leave the leaves alone…the wind’ll take care of em, and if not, they make good mulch…least thats my motto.

peace
Wow, that’s a gorgeous photo. It looks like something out of a Lord of the Rings kind of movie.
I’d love to let the wind blow my leaves away into the next yard, but I love my good relations with my neighbors more! 🙂
Mercy sakes alive!! Is that a woods of Sweetgum or of Japanese Maples. Awesome!!
Hi kansas!!
Here’s some for you —
Oh Pure and Radiant Heart lately? I’m loving it, just wish I could make it through more pages every night before I fall asleep.
Ahhh – CabinGirl!!
Just what I was going to ask. I’m still reading – and loving – it. I’m trying not to rush, because I’d like to finish the night before the club meets.
Which is when? I could add a bulletin board announcement.
Hi, Guys. . .7 bags of leaves down, 3,052 to go. . .same with me Re: the book. Reading it, loving it, still quite a bit to go.
katiebird, we originally voted on the 4th Sat of every month, but because of TGD we changed this one to the first Sat. in Dec.
I just got started and immediately got sidetracked by thinking it would be fun to make a list for you of novels with women librarians in them. So I went to NoveList to do a search and damn but you are in a popular profession for novels, especially mysteries. I got 11 pages of hits.
I know, I try to keep up with them, but new detective librarians are poping up every day.
I’d love to see your list. Are you going to make it a diary?
I was looking for some way to export the list but couldn’t find one and I like you lots but apparently not enough to write down 11 pages of book titles. I haven’t messed around with NoveList that much so I’ll have to go nose around and see if there is a way to save the list.
As for a diary on novels with women librarians — I’d say you would be the one to do that. If I did one, it would have to be for post-menopausal, secular Jewish women with English degrees who work as computer consultants — think I’d get many hits?
More than enough to terrify you, I think. There seem to be a lot of specialty women detectives around.
But, kansas would know a lot more about that than me.
Oh, and I’ll play with the Novelist question. It’s a good one. Novelist was pretty primitive when I first saw it (10 years ago or so) and it may not have all the functions that we take for granted.
Andi,
I think I got something out of it. I’m not sure how useful it is.
Check your email
Looks like today is errand day for BTers … including me. Popping in to say hello. Took a look at the BT map … A lot of cuties posted their pics!
And another interesting thing … a lot of BTers want to run away w/ boran2!, ‘cuz he’s like a god or somethin’… ;^) (Go take the poll.)
Some flowers for the cafe:

Gerbera daisy, taken 11.05.2005 (best viewed large … sorry Andi!)
Totally awesome, Olivia!!! It’s gorgeous. Who knew there is white grass growing in the center of that daisy? !!
Olivia — I looked at this in full size mode and almost didn’t make it back here. I felt like I was looking into the universe or something. I got lost.
You’re making me over use the word beautiful. And I don’t know what to say instead.
Thank you.
I’ve been wanting to ask you: what kind of camera are you using?
Sorry for the delay … just got back from errands and made some dinner. Whew. Long day.
The camera is a Canon Elph (PowerShot). It is so tiny (2 x 3 1/2″), and comes w/ a number of settings. I liked it for its size, and b/c it’s my first dig cam, I didn’t realize I would enjoy photograhy so much… I’ve recently been looking at something with more features, better resolution, higher macro settings, etc. (read: Nikon). We’ll see, but for now this little guy gets the job done.
Olivia, you’ve got to stop posting these breathtaking photos because every time you do I set it as my new wallpaper and it’s been changing every day this week. Plus, I don’t know how to get it back once I set a new one as my wallpaper.
Hi SN!!
You should save the image then manually (in desktop properties) point to the saved image as your wallpaper.
This way you’ll always have it safe.
I was going to say that it sounds way too complicated for me, but then I tried it and it worked! Amazing what you can accomplish when you follow directions. Now if I can just stop running with scissors…
who never can get enough of your photos. You are a wonder.
And it’s okay — some things are absolutely worth the wait and your photos are high on that list.
You have outdone yourself! (Until tomorrow.)
That is so luscious.
Hi,
I had to run off to meet a potential “client”!!! I’ve never really had a “client”, so this is a new thing for me.
It looks like I’m going to be doing his website. And I’m very, very excited.
I’m going commercial!
This one by DuctapeFatwa had recipes scattered throughout it.
Thanks Andi, I’ve added a link. I think this will be handy when we’re ready to think about the cookbook.
Florida Mom around age 7, when nobody had yet heard the word “temple” preceeded by the word “Shirley.”
She’s been spending the time when Puget4 and I are having work hours in the craft shop putting together several small family albums for my brother’s grandchildren and for me.
It’s taken me 50 years to see proof of where I got my toothpick legs.
of the quality of that proof — we’ll be needing a picture of you in similar attire before we can render an accurate judgment.
