BooBooks book club discussion of Oh Pure and Radiant Heart by Lydia Millet: first Sat. in Dec.
In the earlier Cafe today, Raging Hippie had a brilliant idea, which was that we ought to bring ideas about how to do inexpensive holiday gifts. I’d love to make that the theme of the Thursday Cafe on the week after Thanksgiving, unless somebody else wants to do it sooner. RH, if you’re reading this, do you want to do it, yourself??
December 3rd & 4th, right? I’ll post it now.
What I’m doing for my sister due to being money-challenged is using a journal she gave me for Christmas last year with cool art picture on cover and have been collecting quotes over the year that I knew she would like. Anyone who has friends who loves quotes and the written word I would think would like something like this and especially as they knew you had collected quotes with them in mind specifically. Make your own categories..art/politics/philosophy, quotes by women, fun quotes, etc.
If you’re handwriting happens to suck maybe you could get a more artistic friend to write the quotes in for you…or use caligraphy.
What a loving, wonderful idea. Be sure to bring it to the what-shall-we-call-it?
Speaking of the week after Thanksgiving…..
Are we going to be open ON Thanksgiving?
You bet. The cafe will be open that day.
is a WONDERFUL idea, and something I’d find particularly useful this particular year.
LOVE the inexpensive gift ideas idea!
I think the FBC would be a fine place to share ideas, as so many folks stop by at some point during the day. Hanging around the cafe and picking up some gift ideas sounds like a wonderful alternative to the rush to the malls. I’ll bring spiked egg nog.
As this mother of this invention, you’ll be our guest of honor!
Sally Cat’s soup–and her offer to share the recipe–was the inspiration. I plan to pull up a chair at the cafe and take copious notes.
I’m late, but I also love this idea. Should I add it to the bulletin board?
And also a note that we’ll be open on Thanksgiving?
Sure, that would be great. Thanks again, kb.
Now I know just how observant I am — there is a print and email button on the list page. The print page can be copied and pasted into a text application if you didn’t want to mess with email.
!! Did you see my email? I think you’re right, the copy/paste text feature makes more sense. The e-mail was pretty ugly. (either way you can only do 50 at a time — but that’s sort a of common electronic database limitation)
Just checked mail and saw yours.
There’s an html choice for email that makes a better list. If you check your email (the gmail address) that was on your list, you’ll see the html version (for women librarians in mysteries),
See my message below.
How did I stumble in to a site with so many cool, geeky, wonderful people. Like me.
I think I’m a crazy giggling fool.
In case any one has any doubts.
I’ve got Manchurian Candidate from Netflix to watch tonight. I hear it’s got some relevant themes . . .
How come I can’t see the map? Got the fotos, but no map…bummer.
Bill payin’, trip plannin’, and pizza makin’ in store for moi, plus some good blues and jazz on the stereo…and the delightful company of the denizens-o-the-pond.
Later
Peace
I checked the link — I get the map. Do you have a scroll bar?
Sho nuff…open page, blank… scroll to bottom…fotos, no map. Maybe it’s not supported by my browser…mac osx2.8 safari? Be advised, I’m not computer friendly…:{)
Peace
because the map is very slow to come up and you have to be patient (and go do something else) but it does eventually appear.
You have seen the map in the past, right?
try going up a level and drilling back down. Could I have done something goofy with the link so that it works for me, but no on else?
Only when it’s been a direct link…I think ManE dropped it as a jpg once.
I really think it’s on my end…I’ve also been unable to use Google Maps and satellite imagery on this computer…need 10.3.9 upgrade apparently and no got.
Thanks tho…
Peace
with safari and the map came up. He’s running 10.4 and safari 2.02.
tried to update thru Apple, but need osx.3 or newer…learned something tonight-that’s one of the very cool things about BT, everybody is always helping one another…one of a kind!
Thanks!
Peace
that you try Firefox. He says that he finds that some pages load much better and faster, including frapper.
Mister is making a pizza (because I told him on Wednesday that I’d like a pizza tonight). And the smell is killing me! He started working on the dough at about 2pm.
He’s trying a new recipe (or actually an old one of his that he just rediscovered).
ummmmm. . . .
For a girl who hasn’t cooked in 15 years, I sure eat well.
The Pizza was great — If I ate seconds, I would have eaten the whole thing!
I want to apologize to those who I inadvertantly 3ed (instead of 4ed) in my haste earlier today. I hate it when I do that!
Was a long errand day. Getting ready to watch some hockey… Woo Hoo.
(And CG, if you’re in the cafe tonight, I responded to your comment about the camera here.)
We’ve all done that, I suspect. Wouldn’t it be nice if all the numbers came up in different colors, to alert us? Or how ’bout a buzzer when we give something other than a 4 and a stern voice that booms, ‘ARE YOU ABOSOLUTELY SURE ABOUT THIS?”
Those are the potent 4s kb, are they? :o)
Yes, they’re the potent ones. I’m trying to be more restrained about their use.
I think I might have made a bit of a fool of myself the other night!
feel free to pass them around yourself if you want — it is Saturday Night!
You did not! My favorte parts were when you went to sleep under the table and then when you reported that the ceiling needed painting.
(an eruption of insane giggling)
That would be nice kansas…
How are your hands … no blisters from the rake I hope!
No blisters, thank you. I don’t think alligator skin blisters.
Thanks, olivia…I been eyeing up one o’ them nikons myself…I love my little phd (push here, dummy) camera, but am wishing for something a little more lately.
Yes… It’s a trade-off between phd (I like that!) :o)and the opportunity for growth as your learn more and want to experiment. I like the idea of more macro ability w/out have to change the lens, but would like to keep the camera size down.
I know what you mean about the size. My hands are small, and some of the cameras I’ve looked at I immediately cross off the list because they’re just so bulky.
You were asking about Gooserock legs–
The photo isn’t not quite close enough to your mom’s (you really need to be wearing a tutu) for a fair comparison but I’d going by the knees, there’s definitely a family resemblance.
like this:
(since we’re open to the public)
Common guys the Dance Floor is practically empty!
I believe that I’ve given 4s to every comment that I’ve read today.
And it is a lot of work.
But something makes it worthwhile. I think I’m going to have to limit my reading, if I want to keep that record up!
just giving away yours 4’s to anybody who wants them — Focus on Family has declared that this is the first step on a journey to rampant wantonness and excessive sensuality.
If you want to see a sad display put “wanton sex” into a google image search. There’s nothing you can use as an illustration (in my opinion). And the last image is ridiculous
I’m telling you, watching slugs mate on hot summer nights was the extent of my sex education until I was in high school. However, I did not witness any waving of giant penises, just lots of slime and twisting. And then there were the slugs…
And it goes a long toward explain your disappointments with your first marriage.
(totally laughing out loud)
I’m a horrible, horrible person. I’m sorry about that.
(still laughing)
You got it. But I’m still wondering why you seem to be so fixated on slug sex.
for you — since it always causes you such touching nostalgia.
You’re right…you never forget your first slug sex. A person could spend a lifetime trying to recapture the magic.
I learned from Focus on the Family — slug sex before marriage leads to dissolution, disease, the end of civilization, and really neat family rooms.
O come on!
WHAT was your search term. Cheater!
It’s not cheating to use terms which might result in a graphic which connotes the platonic ideal for which you need a physical representation.
Nyyyaaahhhh!
This whole thread is very funny, but I’m too pooped to give out 4’s. Consider yourselves laughed at.
Look at the photo of MM. People would call her chubby now. No hard body, that one.
Giving s is hard work!
Pace yourself. But if you want to have a really good time . . . .
of slug sex and all your four-play, we’re bucking for at least a PG-13 rating around here… 😉
(gasp!)(cough)
I never thought of it like that.
I think I’m too simple.
(laughing)
There is room on the floor!
This is my idea of dancing. Don’t worry, its cleaner than slug sex.
The implications of this are far more involved than I can handle on a Saturday night, even if I am working.
No kidding. Geisha. Robot. Already, my mind is going boing.
Very cool and funny! The fans slay me.
try this ride for cool fan reactions
Oo, cool. But I couldn’t hear them say anything. Was there supposed to be audio? And yes, I did have my speaker turned on. 🙂
There was no audio. They actually have a series of ride cell’s set up at Lego Land in ?Switzerland?.
Here`s my [future dancehall] grandaughter. A “Good Evening” to all.

Does anyone know the posting linking when using IMAGE SHACK? There`s 6 different choices & I seem to get the wrong one when trying to post an image. See my previous post. Since I can`t type I like to throw in a small pic to hopefully brighten everyones` day.

Imagine, centuries from now, archaeologists trying to pronounce these words.
“Carrotimg srcdash.”
Oops, they said it wrong. It should have been something closer to “Carroting srcequal.”
Does anyone know anything about Indigo Children?
children who have “extra-sensory” abilities. There are some people who believe that an astronomical configuration in 1978 caused a larger than normal percentage of children born in that year to have such abilities.
Scientifically, most humans use only about 10% of our brain, and since the beginning of time there have been people who used a bit more.
I will leave the question of stars and 1978 to the astronomers 😉
Do you know there are suddenly so many stories about these people now? I’ve heard about 6 stories this week.
called Indigo? Maybe that is why there are stories about it now. I haven’t seen the movie, I keep meaning to click it in Netflix.
as I recall. I’m sure we use much less than 10% for rational thinking, but seriously I think it’s all turning out to be engaged most of the time.
The other suspicious aspect of it would be that if anyone could figure out how to use just 15%, they’d be half again smarter than almost anyone else. That level of superiority would be hard to hide and harder to pass up.
I had a long run of precognitive dreams in my childhood, sometimes being able to make use of them when I’d see the circumstances unfolding on camping trips, public events and such.
But mine seemed to stop around 1978. Cooincidence?
things being debunked without any announcements. First it was the nice simple planar earth, next it was the spontaneous generation of rats. Debunked they say. Got to Hawaii on boats. OK, whatever. And now the 10% brain thing. I seem skeptical. If we used more than 10% of our brains, that would mean that the same number of people who support wars would be about the same as the number of people who paid to see Shrek. Oh wait.
I first read that as Indigo Chicken… lol
Well, voodoo practitioners have been known to read the entrails of chickens, so maybe you weren’t so far wrong about the ESP fowl.
As I have found my own intuition to be so dead-center right on lately… at least since I got divorced and really ‘found’ myself… I’m truly loving it.
Well, now, that IS a nice outcome of divorce!
I’m so loving you and katiebird tonight. Thank you.
Actually, Seth the ex- and I are best of friends again now. We talk about relationships and sex and all of that shit. I’m so thankful for what we have been able to become again… I feel truly lucky.
And I am also so grateful for the community here as well…
Me? Hello!!
I’m loving you too — but we’d be much more comfortable where the tables are clean and the ceiling painted!
Come on over!
Home at last — waiting for spouse to be ready to watch last night’s “Countdown” on the DVR. Only got about half the crap done that we needed to; at least we made it to our haircut appointment(s) so we’re all prettified for the holidays. 🙂 And I finally found an album I’ve been looking for, specifically for one song; why are the songs I want the most never available online???
Okay, time to go off and add more music to my iTunes…
Hi Cali!
I want to get prettified: I need a haircut. And I have to trim my Breshnev eyebrows.
Before that wedding in a couple of weeks.
The bangs were shaggy-human length, so they needed a trim, and she took about 2-3″ off the back to get rid of the split ends. The shorter hair enlivened the highlights in the hair.
You could say I married into my hairdresser’s business; she’s been cutting the spouse’s hair (in fact, his whole family’s) for about 30 years now. She’s this really cute Japanese lady, probably pushing 60 but doesn’t look it. In fact, mom-in-law was just in yesterday for four hours (perm, style, the works), and they were talking about how the spouse is turning 50 next June. (My Gawd, I’m going to be married to a 50-year-old; how the h-e-double hockey sticks did we get so OLD????)
Speaking of hockey, Sharks are on, and gotta watch for DJ as well as for me…party on, dudes and dudettes…
Gee, this might be the first time I’ve been in the cafe here. Well, my fun and exciting evening has so far consisted on making a yummy salad with shrimp for dinner, nibbling on some potato chips, drinking some beer and playing online…
Oh yeah, digging through the garbage too. Hate when one accidentally throws something away and then has to go ‘retrieve’ it… Ewww. Actually, I haven’t even found it yet, boo.
Well, then, it’s about time you showed up here!
Shrimp, p chips, and beer sounds pretty good to me.
Actually, I did recall tonight a really yummy recipe for an avocado based dip-type-of-thing with shrimp in it. Yum!! I think you then stuffed it into tomatoes or something. Seth the ex- has the recipe, I’ll have to ask him…
Mmmmm… Food…
Good heavens — do we want to open another Cafe? I’m not sure we’ve ever had a 3 cafe Saturday!
And it’s not even l0 p.m. in thesehere parts.
You’d better do it!
Its about 11pm here, only about 8 more hours til I go home.
I hope this doesn’t kill the momentum, but I’ve opened a new Cafe — Come on Over!!
We’re CLOSED….
