Ladies, Gentlemen and Trolls:
I think it’s safe to declare victory for Operation Yellow Feather‘s original objective. We have “Mean Jean” Schmidt on the run!
“While I strongly disagree with his policy, neither Representative Bubp nor I ever wished to attack Congressman Murtha,” she said. “I only take exception to his policy position.”
Bubp said in a statement of his own Tuesday that his conversation with Schmidt “was based strictly on the proposal to immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq and the consequences of such a proposal.”
Schmidt declined during an interview on Cincinnati radio station WLW to discuss her fellow Republican’s denial: “I was repeating words. I am not going to get into that debate.”
Neither Schmidt nor Bubp returned calls left at their offices Tuesday.
Over the past three days, we have seen this protest spread like wildfire across the lefty blogosphere. Several large blog communities joined forces to say “Enough is Enough!” to the chicken hawks.
We will not take their hateful rhetoric any longer, and if it takes something snarky like a yellow feather to shut their holes, then so be it!
An update on the protest coalition and links to the downloads below the fold:
We have expanded our reach!
- Booman Tribune – diary on recommended list
- DailyKos – made the recommended list and jotter’s High Impact Diary list
- ePluribus Media – frontpaged the diary
- MyDD – still on the recommended list
- Political Cortex – still on the recommended list
- My Left Wing – still on the recommended list
- AfterDowningStreet.org – newest member of the protest coalition, thx to jimstaro for sending them an email to invite
RenaRF’s blog entry is also gathering comments, and my site received a decent amount of hits yesterday.
Great work, now the question is: where does all of this lead?
My suggestion is, keep a lookout for any outrageous behavior by local (or national) Chicken Hawks. Here’s a prime example:
Limbaugh added that people “portray [Murtha] as a former hawk,” and asked: “What kind of serious hawk calls for withdrawals like this?” Limbaugh then added: “I don’t think he ever has been a hawk … in his career … as a congressman.“
(emphasis mine, through uncontrollable spitting, gagging and curses)

This will be crossposted at DKos in 15 minutes! Any help with comments and recommends are most appreciated. I don’t have much name recognition over there (I think), so your clickers will be needed!
So where else can we spread our Feathers? I’ve been trying at Atrios and AMERICAblog to no avail, so if others would like to try, go for it!
You’ve been very active in the previous Operation diaries…so your name is known.
As soon as you have a link let me know and I’ll send it to some people that like to hit recommend!
Perhaps at individual blogs? Thanks for all your efforts. And if kossacks don’t know you now, I believe they will shortly. 😉 Unfortunately I can’t get onto dkos at work but will recommend it when I get home.
I think this idea is funny as hell and could be really effective.
thx for the link, it’s cool this person had an idea brainstorm, I hope they do it and get the media’s attention.
Please recommend the DailyKos version of this diary. Thanks!
we made the list, 3-for-3 baby 🙂
Done, and it just made the list.
Oh they know you now Manny! Recd over there early this morning. Great job you guys and gals. What a team!
Manny, having not met you in person, I now have this image of you on a grand steed with one of those dramatic hats and a tall yellow feather sticking out of it.
then I hope we never meet, cuz then you’ll see me riding on a donkey with a baseball cap. 🙂
thx susan! This has been fun, exhilirating, exhausting, amusing, yada yada, all spun together into a ribbon that gets tied to those yellow feathers we’re bombarding the lefty blogosphere with; hehe, suprisingly no flame wars!
Not a chance….
A new way to smack the rethugs – everyone is in unless they are trolls….and I can tell you the number of TU’s over at the dKos that were playing….well a troll wouldn’t last long! Maybe 6 or 7 TU’s passing through…max!
I’m going to have to back out of all this until emails Thurs and Friday…really need to get some work done in the next 2 hours!
thanks again Sally, I’ll be in touch if there are any new developments.
Ramen!
Got in late. I didn’t see this on the rec list @ kos but found it and rec’d anyway.
I’m so damn proud to be among all of you excellent people.
Great, great work ManEgee and all.
Peace

answered my email to him on Schmidt comment.
I sent an email to State Representative Danny R. Bubp telling him I thought that stunt and comment Schmidt made was over the top and they both should step down as we need leaders NOT kids playing games.
I also stated “Perhaps we need to redo our Government and let Iraq worry about their Government. How can we show them what a functioning Government should look like when it?s an embarrassment to see what is going on right here?”.
And also said that the press is stating your comments were taken out of context which cuts no mustard any longer seeing the Republicans use that comment any time they are cornered.
Here is his response and if you notice he never says he didnt say those things JUST that he didnt name names. Like that justifies what was said seeing it was Murtha’s proposal that was the reason for them being there. Here is his email:
Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding the comments made by Congresswoman Jean Schmidt on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Your concerns are important to me and, if I may, I would like to clarify the matter.
My conversation with Congresswoman Schmidt was based entirely on the resolution to immediately withdraw our troops from Iraq. I had serious concerns with the resolution and, as both a marine and as a constituent myself, I felt compelled to share with her my perspective on the issue.
Let me be clear, the comments and concerns I shared with Congresswoman Schmidt were based strictly on the proposal. We never discussed anyone by name and there was no intent to disparage the congressman or his distinguished record of service for our nation.
I hope this information is helpful in clarifying the matter.
Sincerely,
State Representative Danny R. Bubp
88th Ohio House District
Misty posted a response to a post I had put up about the Lack Of Support in a Recent Poll here in NC, Polling the Military!!
Her Response
My husband is Army National Guard and deployed because of this Iraq fiasco and over 90% in his unit alone are against this war. They cant say it out loud to anyone so they talk among themsleves and their families. They are given strict orders NOT to condemn the war or the leaders both in the WH and the Military.
Why do you think Bush speaks to only those in uniform lately? Its because they are told to look and act like they are for everything Bush and his administration pumps out. To do otherwise is considered dereliction of duty. You certainly dont want to piss off your commanders in the field by showing dislike for Government policies so your thoughts are stiffled.
I’m going to Post up there about the ‘Yellow Chicken Feather Campaigne, actually hadn’t thought about it untill earlier today, it was one I missed as I posted It Up On ALL the Group Boards I’m on, mostly Vet and Pro-Peace!!
the feedback jim, they are obviously taking this seriously since you rec’d such a quick reply. Good! Keep their feet to the fire.
Okay. . .let me fully understand this Operation – did all of this evolve from Boston Joe’s diary the other day? (If so – WAY COOL!)
Either way – congratulations on your terrific efforts – I’m humbled to be among such dedicated, committed torch bearers! You’re doing everyone proud!
Happy Thanksgiving to all – and make sure to put the wishbones to good use. (impeachments come to mind)
yep, this grew like a wildfire from BostonJoe’s efforts. It can be quite scary when people let me run free on the internets, you never know where I may end up nowadays. hehe
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. Paz, Manny
I thought you might find this: DailyKos Diary
Thanks for the link.
I missed it last night when it was up – good fun and good follow-up to the yellow feather campaign.
that he posted links to the Op. Yellow Feather diaries, I hope they do it!
Nice too is that we can go back and pick up feathers that we missed. Retro!!! 🙂
Hey, we could truly freak them out… by sending them chicken bones 🙂
I love you guys! Just when I start to wonder WTF am I to do, what can I do. You all come along with fantastic ideas.
Has this been on the “news” at all? Are we combatants now?? 🙂
BostonJoe has been in touch with a reporter at the Cincinnati Enquirer, I’ll let you know if they give the protest any coverage (or BostonJoe will when he returns)
Hope you’re feeling better and getting settled!
