Yes folks, just as I suspected, a new rationale for a new war has been floated.. this time by Israel. The missing WMD’s are alive and well in Syria.
This dovetails nicely with what my husband heard on talk radio last weekend during a trip through upstate New York… the WMD’s were in Iraq and it was the damn anti-war Democrats (ummm… Wellstone & Feingold??) who were responsible for them not turning up by giving Saddam too much time to hide/ move them.

Well, maybe Bush will now eh… just in time for the 2006 elections perhaps?

An article in the Fall 2005 Middle East Quarterly reports that in an appearance on Israel’s Channel 2 on December 23, 2002, Israel’s prime minister, Ariel Sharon stated, “Chemical and biological weapons which Saddam is endeavoring to conceal have been moved from Iraq to Syria.” The allegation was denied by the Syrian government at the time as “completely untrue,” and it attracted scant American press attention, coming as it did on the eve of the Christmas holiday.

Syria, unlike pre-occupied Iraq, has a somewhat well-equipped and trained fighting force. They will be able to put up a real fight from the beginning of an invasion by the US. The US military is so overstretched right now that any talk of a new war that does not involve a draft is asinine.
And if Israel were to “help” with an invasion of Syria, look for WW3 to break out big time: the question of “Does Iran have nukes?” would be answered immediately.
And if a draft is instituted here in the States, look for a New Revolution to break out big time.
That would not go over well in that region for so many reasons. It would basically wind up being the US and Isreal against everyone else. They’d win… Eventually. And at tremendous cost.
And hey, how convenient! There isn’t enough of an army left to defend the government properly!

Whenever they say the WMDs are in Syria, that usually means they are about to kill Zarq again, and you know how he gets when they do that, hogs the X-box, eats all Zawa’s yogurt, and leaves socks all over the safe house.

General Yaalon, former IDF chief, is avery big-wig at WINEP, (Washington Institute For Near Easdt Policy, a group that is funded by and srves as the main propaganda arm of AIPAC the extreme rightwing Israeli loobying/coercion outfit.
WINEP’s primary raison d’etre is to manipulate the media and to program the executive branch of the US govt. with their policy analysis and srecommendations, and to do so with the best interests of the hard right Israelis in the Likud party.
Likud will be changing now as even Sharon finally realizes the lunatic extremists running that party are too crazy even for him, and that their violent intransigence prevents movement forward with any kind of rational agenda.
But WINEP and AIPAC and MEMRI will not evolve, and Yaalon’s idiotic statements now are clear evidence of their continuing irrational zealotry.
