The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll
by Bob Dylan
William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll
With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ring finger
At a Baltimore hotel society gath’rin’.
And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him
As they rode him in custody down to the station
And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain’t the time for your tears.
William Zanzinger, who at twenty-four years
Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres
With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him
And high office relations in the politics of Maryland,
Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders
And swear words and sneering, and his tongue it was snarling,
In a matter of minutes on bail was out walking.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain’t the time for your tears.
Hattie Carroll was a maid of the kitchen.
She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children
Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage
And never sat once at the head of the table
And didn’t even talk to the people at the table
Who just cleaned up all the food from the table
And emptied the ashtrays on a whole other level,
Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane
That sailed through the air and came down through the room,
Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle.
And she never done nothing to William Zanzinger.
But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Take the rag away from your face.
Now ain’t the time for your tears.
In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel
To show that all’s equal and that the courts are on the level
And that the strings in the books ain’t pulled and persuaded
And that even the nobles get properly handled
Once that the cops have chased after and caught ’em
And that the ladder of law has no top and no bottom,
Stared at the person who killed for no reason
Who just happened to be feelin’ that way without warnin’.
And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished,
And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance,
William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence.
Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears,
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now’s the time for your tears.

Iraq’s deadliest day since poll
and the HeadsUp on this coming Public Event!!
The Study should be an Eye Opener to Reality added to the Deaths and Maimings!!
What a sad day when ppl die in the numbers they have in the past few days in Iraq. I hope that they can find a way to deal with this matter and expediate the matters at hand for the betterment of all the ppl. This death has taken it’s course and it need to draw to an end. My heart goes out to all the families on both sides of this spectrum. Now what next? Can we find a way out of this misery to satisfy all ppl of concern?

Thanks, Aloha (Thanks, Hello?!)
I started a new clinical assignment this week, and it’s on the day shift (7am-7pm) to boot, so that’s pinched into my time for now.
What a joke. Don’t they have any clue at all that George and Condi just want to use them as a media prop? Or are they too happy to be called into the spotlight again as if they are revered or something. Please. Haig? McNamara? Baker? Sure. Here’s how to win with honor. Meanwhile Iraq burns and journalists pay Iraqis to buy film to take pictures of the grief torn faces of the next day’s orphans. Fuck the whole goddamn bunch of them. Curse them to hell. Drive them all to Sadr City and kick them out of the fucking car. Adios.

4th Marine Division, Marine Forces Reserve
His son died as one of fourteen marines on August 3 near Haditha in Iraq.
Too much focus on dying, not on life that was lost.
In terms of his father, lives wasted in a war of choice and not of necessity.

CLEVELAND (OH) (WaPo) Jan. 3, 2006 — Early on Aug. 3, 2005, we heard that 14 Marines had been killed in Haditha, Iraq. Our son, Lance Cpl. Edward “Augie” Schroeder II, was among them.

The words “hero” and “patriot” focus on the death, not the life. They are a flag-draped mask covering the truth that few want to acknowledge openly: Death in battle is tragic no matter what the reasons for the war. The tragedy is the life that was lost, not the manner of death. Families of dead soldiers on both sides of the battle line know this. Those without family in the war don’t appreciate the difference.
This leads to the second reaction. Since August we have witnessed growing opposition to the Iraq war, but it is often whispered, hands covering mouths, as if it is dangerous to speak too loudly. Others discuss the never-ending cycle of death in places such as Haditha in academic and sometimes clinical fashion, as in “the increasing lethality of improvised explosive devices.”

For if it prosper, none dare call it treason.”
