At the top-of-my-things-to-do-when-I’m-feeling-better list. (Plan to meet w/a Green who works in town.) This cave on what’s-his-name’s nomination to the SCOTUS has absolutely done it for me!
Nose in a book, natch. I have been reading The Universe in a Single Atom, by the Dalai Lama. Long subtitle: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality. He offers many charming anecdotes about the various scientists who have instructed, coached, encouraged him over the years in his interest in various sciences.
This little gem from a discussion of DNA and the human genome amused me, and–who knows?–it might provide a good comeback someday to assertions by a wingnut:
Think I’ll run to the store for some bananas.
did you know that,A Naval Academy tradition that lasted 155 years has come to an end.
The gates and crypts of Revolutionary War Capt. John Paul Jones at Annapolis have been guarded by Marine sentries since before the Civil War.
The military has now withdrawn Marines from that post and redeployed them to Iraq. The four dozen Marines will be replaced by Navy enlisted personnel
I’ve been at the hospital this weekend since my mom had a hip replaced. Somehow at the hospital I’ve become the person in the family everyone tells their secrets to… and I don’t want them. I don’t want to be party to everyone’s dark side.
hope your mother is doing well. I share your feelings at time. Glad to have you here tonight. How are YOU?
How kind of you, and how in character that is for you. I’m a little tired and somewhat cranky- even though I’m trying not to show it because my daughter hasn’t seen much of me lately.
How does one get rid of secrets that they didn’t ask for and don’t want?
How does one get rid of secrets that they didn’t ask for and don’t want? Tehanu, hon, if I had that answer, I would sell it and be rich! Plus, I too would be less heavy of burdens. We just must take the stressors and go on, I suppose. Someday, they too will subside, I hope. Hugs

Same thing happened to me when my late father had bypass surgery. I was just as worried as everyone else and had a bunch of crap that I had absolutely NO interest in dealing with dumped on me. Like it or not, you are considered the strong one in your family. It gets worse though: when you need to lean on someone, everyone will think that you are strong enough to handle everything yourself. That sucks. (Believe me, I sympathize and hope all goes well.)
I guess every family has their own guidelines for the “dirty family secrets talk”. I got to hear all of the dirty family secrets right after I got married. My husband hasn’t been the same since. 😉
My thoughts are going out to you and your family. Hip replacement is not fun!!!
Maybe they see you as the strong one? That could be why they decided to impart some family secrets upon you…..

Hasn’t done anything wrong?
Denial ain’t just a river in Egypt.
Gotta remember that one! LMAO!!!
It’s an oldie but a goodie. 😉
Believe it or not, I never heard that one before!

while were on the topic, Denial, here’s some more
“[w]e are past the point of no return..and life on earth will never be the same” from a sobering article by James Lovelock, the scientist behind the Gaia theory. His comment appears as a companion article on The Environment in Crisis, 01/16/06 edition, The Independent titled:
‘The Earth is about to catch a morbid fever that may last as long as 100,000 years’

John Murtha being interviewed on 60 Minutes right now. He’s holding his own and not giving in to Mike Wallace.

Will Evo Morales follow Hugo Chavez's model?

So … after Chavez and Venezuela, the Bush cabal got what they deserve:
Lulu Brazil, Socialist in Uruqua, Morales in Bolivia and a self-supporting Argentina freed from the IMF noose. Only through U.S. and France meddling in Haiti, Bush got himself another country in chaos today.

Spain moved to the left. Another First Woman was elected as president in an African country – Ms Sirleaf in Liberia. Germany moved to the right but Angela Merkel is off to a great start on the international stage, an Islamist with extreme views got elected in Iran and insurgents running wild across the globe.

▼ ▼ ▼ MY DIARY
I must be really strange or something: I really don’t give a damn about the US’s prestige. I am more concerned w/how people are treated than a status as top dog in the world.
Thought Murtha was a believable person in the Wallace interview on 60 minutes. No one (except the junior rep from Ohio) can question his credentials. No matter how much Wallace tried to spin the interview by the tenor of his questions, a solemn Murtha hung his head and shook it as well, before telling Wallace what was wrong with his most recent question of Murtha’s position. If I was middle America watching him (Murtha) I would see a knowledgeable Patriot who was deeply concerned by the war fiction being put out by the folks who got us there in the first place. Bravo, Rep. Murtha!
Should I worry about the Panthers?
I’m baaaack. No power for hours! I’m sure the place was better for it though.
Been here before?

defending the bombing in Pakistan. He said essentially that we had no choice but to drop the bomb on that house – when you have solid intelligence that Al Queda is present you cannot hesitate.
Dead children? Unfortunate.
I’m not holding my breath until other Democrats condemn his stance on this.
This is a CYA answer! It was on an ally’s ground in t he first place, just like us bombing canada. Secondly, how do they confirm things such as this? That is the question I want to know! God, just how stupid do these congresscritters think we are!!?? This kind of call for the most part, has to get authorization from quite up high on the food chain. This was yet another dumb move on behalf of all in concern.
