   I just called Sen Conrad, and said to filibuster Alito so  as to protect democracy and our constitution.

     While we have to generate the pressure on all Senators the decision to filibuster (or not) will also be a leadership decision.

   As far as I know, Obama hasn’t come out in favor of Alito, so what does the list mean, exactly? That they might vote for Alito, or that they might not vote for a filibuster? There’s a problem with the wording. I’m ready to call Obama, but the quoted message seems to suggest there’s something I don’t know about his statements that should be addressed.

         I think the confusion lies in the wording of the diary: are these Senators who are wavering for or against filibuster?

         Thinking of voting for or against Alito?

       exactly.  he always says he’s a supporter of women’s rights during election, and always doesn’t come through when it matters.  this is the guy who went to bat for clarence thomas

   both of whom are on this list (I live in AR, unfortunately).  Feel free to use it when contacting your Senators:

   I am writing to you today to urge you to strenuously oppose, through filibuster if necessary, the nomination of Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court of the United States.  As you are well aware, we live in a time in which the Bush Adminstration seeks imperial powers for the Executive branch, openly scoffing at the Congress and Judiciary.  The unapologetic, illegal domestic spying by the NSA, at Bush’s repeated direction, on American citizens is just the latest example of this.  Judge Samuel Alito, if elevated, will put the final nail in the coffin that holds our precious checks and balances.  He has demonstrated, through nearly two decades of written opinions and more recently at his hearings, that he is favor of a over-reaching “Unitary Executive” that is most definately on the extreme outside of the Framer’s intent and also the mainstream of judicial temperament.  In addition, his pro-corporate stances and documented opposition to a woman’s right to choose are thoroughly not in keeping with true American ideals.  I plead of you to oppose Samuel Alito’s elevation to the highest court in the land, at the very least to keep future power-hungry presidents in the mold of George W. Bush from becoming dictators.  Thanks for your time.
