Yes, terrorists are bad. Terrorists are evil and will come crawling in the night to eat your children. But there is a far more insidious threat to our American way of life, to our American freedoms and American dreams. A threat that demands constant vigilance, and the unlimited use of our national security apparatus to guard and protect us against
The ACLU of Georgia released copies of government files on Wednesday that illustrate the extent to which the FBI, the DeKalb County Division of Homeland Security and other government agencies have gone to compile information on Georgians suspected of being threats simply for expressing controversial opinions.
Two documents relating to anti-war and anti-government protests, and a vegan rally, prove the agencies have been “spying” on Georgia residents unconstitutionally, the ACLU said. […]
For example, more than two dozen government surveillance photographs show 22-year-old Caitlin Childs of Atlanta, a strict vegetarian, and other vegans picketing against meat eating, in December 2003. They staged their protest outside a HoneyBaked Ham store on Buford Highway in DeKalb County.
The worst thing the ACLU could ever have done was to publicize our secret government surveillance of these dangerous Vegans, with their vegetarian agenda. Don’t they care about our children, terrorized by the thought of carrots and peas, spinach and sprouts, or even (gasp!) broccoli? How damned Unamerican these liberal “civil liberties” groups like the ACLU really are!
Thank God we have a President who knows that our children need protecting from dangerous, vegetable loving ideologues like this:
Cross posted at Daily Kos.
The police state tactics credibly alleged by the plaintiffs in this case are deeply troubling. I encourage all to read the complaint here:

This dovetails nicely with the recent rollback of the 1990 organic food standards.
This is a very serious subject. Read more here:
Dear god. How stupid.
I think that’s why so many of us are being silly in this thread. It’s so damn stupid and such a fucking waste of time when we have REAL terrorists and REAL criminals — sexual predators, rapists, murderers, robbers, etc., etc. — who need catching.
I’ll be you anything that I’m listed on one of those because, every August, I help my daughter protest the Shriners circus that comes to town here. Why do we protest? Because the elephants and tigers are kept in tiny steel cages all the time, traveling on the road, and get very little natural life, if any at all. Further, when they’re trained, it’s tradition that torture is used. (ALL ELEPHANTS in Thailand who do lumber-business work, etc. have all been tortured into submission through repeated beatings, etc.)
One year, the circus owner called the State Patrol because our little protest is by Highway 101, a state highway, and he hoped they’d kick us out. The officer came by, saw that we were standing in a legal area, and was very nice and left.
One year, she had me go “undercover” into the circus. I paid and watched it. God almighty, first it was so damn lame. And the poor tigers wouldn’t do any of their tricks. (I wondered if they got beaten later :(:() I was truly bored out of my mind, but I had a camera and snapped lots of photos.
My daughter has paid money out of her little pittance to buy brochures and to run ads in the local paper.
This coming summer — for the first time ever — the Shriners have promised to have a non-animal circus come to town!
Her persistence — often being the ONLY protester standing out there — paid off.
Is that terrorism by anyone’s standard?
I’ve known children that didn’t like the taste of meat and who became vegetarian that way. So, basically we’re being told that every little girl or boy that decides not to eat Bambi the deer or Fluffy the rabbit out of compassion is a potential terrorist.
Laws (eye roll)
That’s my daughter’s case. When she was little, she just wouldn’t eat meat … now, I’d been a vegetarian throughout my pregnancy and my breastfeeding, so perhaps that had an effect? Dunno. (I did eat lots of eggs and free-range dairy products.)
My mom and stepdad made a big stink about it — they’d bug her every time we ate at their home. It was incredibly annoying. She just didn’t like it.
Then as she got school-age, of course, I, her mother, planted evil ideas in her head — since I’d read Peter Singer’s “Animal Liberation” and his book on animal factories — which will forever change anyone who reads them.
She still can’t stand the taste … there are some Boca vegetarian burgers that she won’t eat because they taste too much like meat.
P.S. Anyone tried Yves products? Fabulous! All the local Safeways and other large grocery chains carry their products. I especially love their hot dogs — the chili dogs are to die for — I defy any omnivore to eat one and not like it. (And, god, compared to what’s put in meat hotdogs, it’s infinitely better for you.)
I have. I like Yves a LOT.. although i’m never sure about their vegan status so I always make sure to read the labels for casienate… Krogers has them too.. as does Wal-mart but i haven’t been in there for years
It’s terrorism in the sense that you threaten their good image I think? I know Shriner’s has traded off their work on charity for years. Now, they can be seen as people who aren’t all that charitible …
My stepdad was a Shriner and belonged to their country club … oh god … when I think of them, I think of a bunch of big fat white men with huge bellies and big white Cadillacs.
I think of people in bad uniforms jingles cans out by the side of the road, near intersections. 🙂
On a very serious note there could be very good reasons why somebody could want to take the plate number of a suspicious vehicle. This is a very good tip for those times.
Get into the habit of using the SMS text facility on your cellphone to send these details to a second number owned by a friend or parent or even a “disposable” type that is permanatly at home. That has two effects, first the physical evidence leaves you so the data is safe. Second, in extreme circumstances the sender can let the driver know that the data has been sent and they cannot retrieve it. What, for example, was there to stop somebody pretending to be from Homeland Security with fake ID and abducting the demonstrater?
As well as the situation described here, this would be a good idea for, say, somebody accepting a lift from someone they did not know and trust completely.
The Bush Crime Family’s bad relationship with broccoli is well known.
You can understan why they’d want to outlaw the veggie lifestyle.
And those Chinese joints are always offering Beef and Broccoli. Clearly they are criminals. Mixing veggies with the beef.
And I believe broccoli has close ties with the Saudis, iirc.
I believe I am closely related to a vegan. What should I do?
And, oh dear, didn’t some people here say that they’re vegans or vegetarians?
I am a vegetarian and a vegan sympathizer.
You realize we’ll have to ban you from the site now, don’t you?
<snark>
Do you think you live in the kind of country where you can just SAY something like that with impunity?
(Oh shit … i just realized my daughter has several copies of Vegetarian magazine … and a vegan cookbook! OMG!)
Vegans and vegetarians are clearly dangerous. If more people adopted that lifestyle, we might have to forfeit the crown – of being the heaviest country in the world.
We must retain the #1 status.
I’ve long suspected that it’s a PLOT concieved of and implemented by the nation’s meat industry. If vegetarianism ever caught on it would be great for the envronment and great for everyones general health BUT it would cause many a meat plant manager to lose their job.. so obviously allowing even one vegan is asking for the meat equivalent of the Tet offensive and subversive elements everywhere will PROLIFERATE. Like dominoes… the entire American ediface will come crashing down. The American DREAM will END!
(everyone know Vegans are commies, right?)
You misunderstand the intent of the government. They are concerned with ties between domestic Vegans and foreign terrorist Vegans. Our beef industry is in peril. Think about it.
Okay. Even the people involved have to keep a sense of humor but to be perfectly grim about it: the absolutely most important thing to remember is that when you see such injustice (as the arrest of someone taking down a license number)LOCALLY you must step up and support that person and group in your locality. Building local community is essential.
It’s not going to be enough to depend on Internet protest. I wouldn’t count on having a free Internet in a few years. Everything is going to depend on networks of PEOPLE. Up close and personal.
Seriously, with the description of what happened in the article, it’s only a matter of time before sites like this are forced out.
I can appreciate snark and dark humor but this should be taken seriously.
The administration has been allowed to define what a terrorist threat is without credible proof and accountability. They’re knocking off any potential threat by making associations.
They are the ones who started the conspiracy to incite veganism as part of their plan to take over the world.
There are even reports of Pagans feeding ground up vegetables to infants, and in broad daylight, thumbing their noses at the American way of Christian meat.
