I wrote words today.
Yesterday’s no past perfect.
What tense tomorrow?
Did you look at the Widpedia example of haiku. It couldn’t be more fitting than for here.
* An example of classic hokku by Bashō:
Furu ike ya kawazu tobikomu mizu no oto
An old pond–
The sound of a frog jumping
into water
Frog Haiku. Perfect.
You are brilliant. Feel free to turn that to haiku.
Since you didn’t hire me for the job of omniscient narrator, I’m trying for the copy editor position.
You could try out for the position of unreliable narrator. Even more fun.
Smartie!
Heh.
I learned it from Jim Shepard, described in this as “something of a patron saint of the maladapted.”
I already hold that position. That’s why you rarely see me.
More fun perhaps but, alas, the Blue Dot could not permit Her exalted Being to be tainted by any suggestion of fallibility, even if it’s just the body She uses for Her earthly manifestations.
It’s funny, but at about 3:45 this afternoon I had this sudden urge to spend the rest of the afternoon with Atrios. Which is really odd because I usually don’t spend more than a few minutes with him.
Wonder what could have caused that?
Did you sense a shadow jumping over you?
There was a phrase that I just couldn’t get out of my mind no matter how hard I tried
“Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?”
I just assumed I was thinking of Atrios.
I know I certainly have no idea but I’m glad you’re learning the virtures of taking one’s time.
Of billing one’s time? I was very virtuous today.
Good dog Sniff. You’ve learned how to type!
I’ll be gone for a while. In honor of the day I need to stop by the cider press on the way home. I hear they pressed a few fresh woodchucks.
But I’ll be back.
<Sniff> lol! This girl’s quick. Like a quick smart. . .
(smiling)
Was that a library lady smile?
Oh how amusing but please keep it down,
No, I’m just happy and smiling — and too tired to giggle or laugh. Libraries have TVs in them now — shhhing is out.
That dog learns quick. I just found this in my email:
Nice use of parallelism.
Just have to give you a woof of appreciation before I go searching for froggybottom to set up the all-night cafe.
Admit it — you’re trying to lure me into this thread!
π
(smiling happily)
I’m home!
(jumping out from behind Marmotdude’s signs)
SURPRISE
Marmotdude planned a big party for you. Welcome home!
{{{whoooo}}}
SCREAMING
You scared me!
hand you your slippers and a pipe?
Was the blogging meeting interesting?
Yes. It went well. They’re going to use blogger for 6 months or so until we get past a couple of major projects. Then we’ll plan a move to our own servers.
Are you going to do anything on it or just play interested observer?
Luckily — no. It’s their own show for now at least.
Ahhh, slippers. The pipe? hm?
Hard day at the office, dear?
No, it went well, actually — and dinner was ready when I got home!!
Um, can you all check this site out and give me some feedback please…I’ll tell you why afterwards.
Hummm…it’s more phallic than I expected…
I huuuuumbledly beg your forgiveness…:{)
Peace
Thank you, dada…I needed that. π
Okay, I looked. Now I really, really want a vacation.
You’re welcome to come with us!
Thanks — why, when, where and… it doesn’t involve a handbasket, does it?
Sorry, but I believe I’m already occupying the handbasket…
We’re still working out the details for an early summer BT meetup. Interested?
boran2, where are you?
I looks interesting. I always have to visit sisters on my vacation though.
Why?
Does it look like a cool place to meet up with frog pond friends for a summer weekend?
Oh, yes — it looks perfect for us. Especially if we ever got to go on vacations that didn’t involve sleeping on someone’s floor.
My sisters and I solved that problem by having destination vacations together. That way no one person has to put up with others staying with them.
It looks great.
I’d book Mountainview Lodge all for myself. And meet you at the cafe for breakfast.
Interesting. I believe I’ve seen the place listed in regional vacation guides — it’s about 45 minutes from where I live, but I’ve never been there.
I think the folks who put together the Gathering of the Vibes have used it for winter events before, but I’m not sure. I’m not very familiar with the area.
Just checked my regional map for you. I see no ‘Valley View Road’, which means it’s likely a privat road, which would be very nice. The town of Big Indian sits in a narrow valley on the Esopus Creek, a clean, vibrant body of water. A busy main road, Rte 28, meets a fairly well-traveled county road there.
Anything off of the main roads should be fairly secluded. Our area isn’t enormously populated π
I’d certainly offer to go have a peek at the place for you, but that could take a little while due to car nonsense.
I don’t know about anybody else, but that sounds pretty good to me.
If you feel like checking it out after your car troubles are solved that would be great (although it might make a nice excuse for me to take a day trip up there.)
I’d be happy to go see it when I can.
If you’re thinking of a time-frame, I’d definitely recommend the time around the summer solstice (around June 21). This is when everything’s vibrant & in bloom; July & August can be very wet, May & Sept can be very cool. The week July 4th is a madhouse, as you may alreay know — getting a bit worse each year.
Where are you, CabinGirl?
I’m west of Philly; about a 4-hour drive from Saugerties.
Would you come in thru Port Jervis? (Checking map presently..)
I usually go 78, 287, thruway.
OK. So it looks like you’d pick up Rte 28 at Kingston. Not bad; 28’s a pretty nice road.
Does that mean the whole family approves?
For those interested, Survivor starts in 1/2 hour!
Get your rest now.
Do you watch it? I read an article in Entertainment Weekly saying this one has a twist — an exile island or something.
I’ve always watched it. But, tonight is the very first night of the new season. So, I don’t know anything about the twists. I’d heard something about an exile island — but no details.
I’ve watched a couple of the seasons — the first one and the last one. Remember when they sent that skinny model woman out to spend the night alone and she was dancing around? Anyway, evidently some element of this new season is people staying alone on exile island. I’m not sure if it’s a requirement or a punishment or how it’s going to work.

Hey there, all — good evening. So pleased to see you — especially since I found out today that the incredible odor pervading my car for the past 2-3 weeks is leaking gasoline.
And drd yu zee bzz arrnn o tee watsso zerm? brf..
{{WW}}
Thank you, dear katiebird.
Where is it leaking from? (I swear, my car must have the same smell this week…uh-oh.)
The leak is under the car, rear passenger’s side. It took a friend to notice it; he checked it out after he smelled the car coming up his driveway.
& here I thought that loopy feeling while driving was my hypoglycemia.
I’d recommend investigating any smells, CabinGirl.
I’ve been home for over an hour now & still can’t think properly. Lord knows what damage we’re doing to ourselves.
I sure am glad neither you nor the felines smoke.
I hope it’s not going to cost too much to fix.
Actually, dear, I do smoke — & tend to use matches in the car as the lighter doesn’t always work.
I’m fully planning to stay out of the car until the problem can be remedied. Costs will depend on the leak’s origin & who does it. We’ll see.
Well since you do smoke, I’ll revise my comment to being glad that your Wiley Coyote imitation isn’t very good.
Apparently it isn’ t π
The reason I was out at my friend’s today was to have a look at a sturdy old pickup truck he’ll sell me for near nothing. Now the question is: should available funds go to buying/fixing the pickup or fixing the car?
I’m sure I’ll be thinking a bit more clearly on this & other issues in a short while. As of now I’m a bit of a puddin’ head.
His parting words as I drove off were: ‘Wait ’til you get home to smoke!’ Which I did.
We always have a vehicle that can haul stuff but the question on any old vehicle is how reliable it is.
Yep. Sort of a gamble, isn’t it? This truck was used in business as a stand-in for a truck in repair, so I’m guessing it’s generally pretty reliable. Needs a radiator, though.
The other question is how good a friend — in case, the truck turned out to be a disaster.
I’ve known him for a couple of years now; I think he’s a pretty good guy — well known in the community, extremely helpful to me in general & honest with me so far about the truck. Works at the town dump/recycling center, so I see him pretty often.
I’m HOME? Woodchuck in hand.
Take off your shoes and pour a drink. Survivors about to start.
At one point Marmotdude had a really nice fat blunt in the picture but it just didn’t seem to go with the beach and umbrella drink. But the sun is down now.
And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you’re going to fall
Tell’em a hookah smoking marmot
Has given you the call ..
Now all I need is some Ripple Red and I’ll drift deep into nostalgia for my youth.
Where there is no pebble tossed or wind to blow?
π
I love it here.
Ain’t it the truth, ManE?
Bam!
We thought something fell on the house, or blew up in the shop or something. Mag 3.1 around Everett.
That’s a relief.
Glad you’re all right, Gooserock.
Rock ‘n roll!
One Maine winter night several years ago, living not where I live now, I heard a rumbling noise and felt a THUMP. Said to myself, “Oh, the furnace just turned on.”
Then: “Wait a minute. This house doesn’t have a furnace!”
It was a 4-something about 50 miles away.
You sure that was only a 3.1, Gooserock?
Wow. We’re in northeast King Co. and didn’t feel a thing!
The first was the big one in Seattle. I was driving to the store for shop supplies, turned on Dr. psychologist-not-Laura who was explaining that shyness is just excessive selfishness. I got so pissed I didn’t feel an earthquake that Puget4, a mile away, was experiencing as an airforce low-level practice bombing runs for about a minute or so. The totos were furious–but only after it ended.
The other two were weak ones in the mid/upper Sound. A year ago one gently rattled some pans in the kitchen. In fact that was the only symptom. I’d got up early with insomnia and was dozing, or I’d never have heard it.
This one felt like someone slamming a big door downstairs, but we don’t have such a door. Puget4 said she felt the floor shaking slightly in response to the noise, but of course it was some mild tremoring.
People are reporting mag 3-4 over a fairly wide area. I suppose that means it was shallow, given how weak it was.
UW geologist says 18 miles deep, but still in the North American plate, which is why it was felt so widely.
Now revised up to 3.6, south end of Whidbey Island. There are several faults in that area and they don’t know yet if it was connected to any of them.
People are reporting the mild shaking between Everett and Bremerton, over quite an area.
All-night cafe now open!
