with the kindest of respect BooMan, I’ll offer that your category “unsure” equates ‘none of the above’ and, having invited us to explain
Well it did leave the door open a tad for some mischief. Whatever. I love a little mischief. So, so sorry. My bad.
I love being called impish…but there were Stronger words used in my younger days……(and probably still are)
Hi guys,
Here is an IRV poll which is similar to Chris’ poll, but with one of the most popular potential candidates in the blogosphere (guess who) included. Vote in the:
I will post a poll with a larger slate if sufficient interest is shown below. Please post the name of the candidate of your choice (that is currently not in my poll) as a reply to this comment.
Thanks.
VOTE HERE!
Well, booman, we seem to have strong differences — I voted “unsure” for fifth place.
i hate unsure, and there is no way I can support her.
well… if she could change it to “umm…sure” would that be better?
I had to put “unsure” in second place, after Russ! And so many candidates were vying for the 12th spot…
Ditto.
Although if Dean, Boxer, Gore or Bradley showed up on the poll I could have filled it out a bit more.
such an evil pinch!
You need to go look at something in the cafe, dear…
1st Russ Feingold
2nd John Edwards
No one else, I’m not that excited about Edwards, but he’s done one or two things that I like. And, you know, Elizabeth.
John would probably never settle for the vp slot, after his let down from kerry’d concession
He’s been not so quietly running around fighting the good fight on the repubs war against poor people..(not a religious person, but bless ‘im
I would love to see a Feingold/Edwards ticket. Edwards is strong on economic/poverty issues — not only is it important, but I think his Two America’s message is the way to win. He’s also the only politician I’ve heard talking about things like data-mining and predatory lending.
How come you don’t have to explain your votes?
:p
1st Russ Feingold
2nd John Edwards
3rd John Kerry
4th Wesley Clark
5th Mark Warner
6th Joe Biden
7th Hillary Clinton
8th Even Bayh
9th Tom Daschle
10th Bill Richardson
11th Tom Vilsack
Beyond the top 2, the rest of my list is far from set in stone. I know a lot of people will disagree with me on Kerry, but I still think that other than Feingold (and possibly including him) Kerry would make the best President (though certainly not the best candidate).
Vilsack is last because after reading some diary on dKos yesterday or the day before I can’t get “Vilsack=Nutsack” out of my head.
because other than Richardson/Clark our selections are so similar.
Fair enough.
Why do you put Clark so low? I was surprised to see him below Hillary in your list.
I don’t trust Clark. I don’t consider him a Democrat. I have no understanding of why he appeals to people other than the idea that the Dems need a general to convince people we are good on security issues.
I don’t dislike Clark, I just have no interest in him.
For one, I thought it took a helluva lot of guts for him to come out in support of immediately eliminating “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. (Well, that is, until it looked like he might be a viable candidate . . . then he seemed to kinda back off on his strong position.)
In general though, he just seemed (to me) to be a genuinely honorable man. Oh yeah . . .and I have to shamefully admit . . . I kinda swooned a little each time I heard that story of his heroism. <blush>
I see. I knew it couldn’t be the sweaters…
Hey now. At least Wes rid himself of the sweaters for the Advocate cover. (Bless his heart)
And for that alone, I give him a tip o’ the hat.
Booman to explain to you how and why Wes is getting number 2 even though for me he is number 3. It is time for Democrats to place “F”up of Vietnam behind us. We did it, we were wrong and we learned and we have eaten pavement over it for a very long time and avoided the role of the being able to strongly protect the nation. We act like we can’t be trusted completely with military power and calling military shots. We have been attacked though and Clark is someone who bridges that Vietnam gap and he has the knowledge, intelligence, experience, and the ability to bring fully functioning military standards and ethics that really work in the “real world” to our party’s platform and we need never again go run and hide and twiddle our thumbs when the bad guys show up again just because we were total idiots about Vietnam and totally fucked everything up there! We need never lose another election to some barely literate hick from the sticks because he acts tough and stupid because we will be tough and intelligent when needed. He is very military but I have heard him speak many times and he understands that it is the little man who makes a military and it is the little person who makes a nation and he is good at delegating and Wes would need a bunch of delegating. He has sacrificed in the past to ensure that his troops were properly cared for and not placed in harms way when it wasn’t necessary..he would treat the American people very well because they aren’t even his soldiers. I personally think that a whole big bunch of these southern belles could use a little Wes in their lives right now too. “Stop gluing all that toxic stuff onto your fingernails and turning yourself orange under those weird lamps….shit, shower, and shave and then get your butt out here because we have a full day planned girls and we’re burnin daylight! I would love to see ole Wes beatin the metal trash can in the middle of Phyllis Schlafly’s pampered ass rich witch bedroom at 4:00 am….I’ll bet she wears those black fabric goggles to bed too.
boys being a big problem for Wes, other than he may not fully embrace the joys of sharing our lives with whining defenseless sissy girls.
That’s my feeling about Clark too. I don’t trust that he’s really progressive and I can’t figure out why everyone thinks he’s a good candidate.
maryb2004, my bet he is or was an independent from being in the military and didnt want to take sides. I think once I heard that he was that, even tho he voted for some rep. he also voted for democrats too. That is not necessarily a bad thing to be in the military..when one wants to advance in goals or rank. I htink this is what pissed some off in the ranks for his advancement…they could nto get him to declare either party…
I understand why people in the military would put on a neutral stance. I don’t have a problem with that. I don’t actually have a problem with him at all. It’s not like I hate him or even dislike him. He just does nothing for me. He doesn’t excite me as a candidate and no matter how often people try to explain why they support him so enthusiastically I just never really understand.
But I don’t understand support for Tom Daschle either. Nice guy. Does nothing for me.
I would love to see Dean/Gore OR Gore/Dean,. Mean what you say, say what you mean!
Evenin’, Keepinon,
I’ve been mulling over a Gore/Dean ticket myself. Or Gore/Feingold. (And since that’s the little world I’m residing in at the moment, I’m unable to think beyond those options, and therefore . . .sigh . . .I’m not in a position to partake in “the poll”)
I understand. I voted in the poll anyway, but my two choices, at least at this date, remain Gore (aka President Gore) and Gov. Dean.
I hadn’t noticed your sig line before, so I inadvertently thought that was your explanation of why you support Gore and Dean. (either way – works for me :^)
here
“Unsure” was my #1 pick because I’m hoping someone will emerge for whom I’d actually be able to cast a vote for affirmatively, rather than just voting for one of the others in the list as a way ofvoting against the Repub.
And since I don’t rely on hope in my life too much, I’ll not be holding my breath awaiting the arrival of said unsure “candidate” either.
Feingold and Daschle one and two – guess not many others agreed on Daschle.
Feingold
Clark
Edwards
Kerry
Undecided [= Paul Hackett]
I know, I know. I’m just sayin’.
I had Edwards before Wes and I only picked three I wanted up there. Russ, John, or Wes!
Ah,… my terminal case of cynicism seems to be contagious!
1st Russ Feingold
2nd John Edwards
3rd John Kerry
4th Joe Biden
5th Hillary Clinton
6th Bill Richardson
7th Unsure
8th Tom Daschle
9th Mark Warner
10th Wesley Clark
11th Evan Bayh
12th Tom Vilsack
I don’t know the latter four enough to make a judgement on their positions. Daschle would be a nightmare, in my opinion, because he would have a hard time getting crossover votes. He’s not in the the Senate anymore because he was defeated, not because he retired.
I love Russ’ positions as I learn more about them that’s why he’s at the top of my list. Edwards has my respect for the continued work on poverty issues since he left the Senate/lost the campaign. He hasn’t stopped his advocacy.
Kerry would make a great President. I thought that before the election and still hold onto that notion. As a candidate…well, that’s another story.
That’s my $0.04
The problem with polls is that they tell you who to vote for. My feeling is that if you opened it up, you would find a greater variety than what has been proffered by the media/pollsters so far.
Joe Biden, though, shouldn’t even be listed, out of respect to the others.
I’m sorry but he hasn’t earned it, although , from a 57% protection of civil rights in 2000, to 80 something now…he’s starting to wake up.
Unsure, hands down, but the vote didn’t count ’cause Feingold was #2.
Way too soon to even start this shit. If I was “campaign guy” for a day, I’d find the right candidate, file on the last day possible, and save a ton of money by not screwing around for 18 months. It’ll take the rest of that list that long just to figure out what their damn platforms are.
Bah, humbug.
great now im really depressed
i look at that list and all i see is us getting trounced by mccain.
via my ProgressiveTalk list:
members of our government are gore, feingold and clarke, i really don’t care how they position themselves.
1st Russ Feingold
2nd Wesley Clark
3rd John Edwards
4th Mark Warner
5th John Kerry
6th Hillary Clinton
7th Even Bayh
8th Tom Daschle
9th Bill Richardson
10th Tom Vilsack
11th Joe Biden
12th Unsure
HOwever, I too would make some room for Gore someplace in all of this.
Feingold
Edwards
Yada…yada…
I love the Clark supporters, but never have like Clark. Think he’d be an ineffective candidate, and not a great president.
Kerry, I agree, though a lousy candidate, would be a great president. Maybe better, even, than Feingold or Edwards.
And, I, too, mourn the lack of Gore on the list. He would make one hell of a president, possibly one of the best in history.
It’s sad but I don’t find any of these people attractive as candidates. I can only vote unsure.
Gore (I know, he’s not on the poll, but still I would have put him if he had been)
Feingold
Edwards
Unsure
Actually though… I’m not really sure I like any of them that much.
1st Wesley Clark
2nd John Edwards
3rd Russ Feingold
4th Mark Warner
5th Bill Richardson
6th Joe Biden
7th Tom Daschle
8th John Kerry
9th Even Bayh
10th Hillary Clinton
11th Unsure
12th Tom Vilsack
In the final round of this tally, your vote counted for:
Wesley Clark
Good.
Only the first five really count. After that I could pretty much flip a coin. Clark has been my first choice since he declared in 04. John Edwards might have been my first choice if I’d heard his Two Americas speech early enough. I still wonder how an Edwards/Kerry or Edwards/Clark ticket might have done. Feingold and Warner are almost a tie. I really like what Russ has to say, but I’m very much aware of the negatives he starts with. I don’t really know as much as I would like about Warner, but what I do know makes him very attractive.
I don’t think Richardson has ever gotten the attention he deserves. He seems to have a pretty big charisma deficit, but I’ve always sensed a kind of calm and unassuming competence there. I thought he made a pretty good Energy Secretary and as far as I can tell he’s taking care of New Mexico’s business pretty well. I suspect if he every does make it to the White House he’ll be, like Jimmy Carter, more appreciated after the fact than while he’s in office.
Biden is next because I’ve always liked him. I know a lot of people are down on Joe. but he’s never been afraid to say what’s on his mind. Everybody else is basically tied for seventh.
1 – Russ Feingold – most closely fits my views of this group
2 – Mark Warner – impressed that he made moves to the left just before leaving office not to the right
3 – Wesley Clark – most potential to move up but I need to see and hear him in action – I was disappointed with how poorly he came out of the gate in ’04
4 – John Edwards – I like him but let’s see if anyone remembers his name in ’08
5 – Tom Daschle – I’ve always liked Daschle despite his weak kneed job as Senate Minority Leader
6 – Hillary Clinton – strongest of the rest – I would also like to see a woman President
7 – Bill Richardson – mixed reviews but I’d like to see a Hispanic President soon too
8 – Tom Vilsack – I don’t care much for middle of the road but I know folks that I like that like him
9 – Even Bayh – he’s close to being under unsure but not quite there – I’ll give him a chance to make his case
10 – Unsure – cuz I’m sure I don’t want anyone below unsure
11 – John Kerry – see #10 – see ’04 campaign
12 – Joe Biden – looks and sounds like a fossilized Senator – perfectly type case for the role he has played so well for years
Add (Vice) President Gore and he jumps to the head of the class.
The same would be true for Gov. Dean but I know he isn’t running… Gore might.
I just dont want a senator running again. Senators always seem to lose.
They don’t just seem to lose, they DO lose. In the 20th century, only 2 senators won office running from the Senate. (Some presidents were former senators, but when they ran they weren’t senators.
Well Booman finally got me off my butt to register here… I’ve been lurking and loving this site from the beginning, and my day’s not complete without many visits here. Many thanks for creating this great community, and now I can finally participate, once the inertia has been broken!
Anyway, my votes?
1 Russ Feingold, because I’ve loved the guy since way back when he was in the WI legislature when I was in graduate school in Madison. He’s only gotten better over the years, and I’m 100% behind him.
2 John Edwards, because though I came late to supporting him in 2004, I have admired his direction since the debacle, and he might actually have a chance.
3 Unsure
4-12 Without Kucinich or Gore as options, the rest of the list leaves me very cold.
In case anyone’s interested, Hillary is 12, and my governor Vilsack (nutsack, milquetoast, DLC pablum) didn’t rank much higher. He should quit fantasizing about running, because he couldn’t win a single caucus here in Iowa, no matter how hard you have to hold your nose.
My paltry .00.005, for what it’s worth.
I feel good for finally breaking inertia and joining here… I love you folks, and look forward to getting some diaries written soon.
I love it when people de-lurk 🙂 Don’t be shy!
Thanks ManEgee! I already feel like I know a lot of you and lots of other folks, and I feel at home. Just took some time to de-lurk, and I hope to chime in more often, with diary even… I’ve had one percolating for quite some time, I just have to get down and write it. But I have to do several deep, serious viewings of “Brazil” before it can all crystallize into what I want it to be. Thx again for the warm welcome.
Hello everybody, I ran across the perfect symbol to protest the war in Iraq and yet still show my patriotism and support for the troops. It is the “Love the Troops Hate the War” car magnet. It can be found at http://www.lovethetroopshatethewar.com. I know for certain that if there were as many of these “X” magnets on cars as there are yellow ribbons, THIS WAR WOULD END NOW! What do you think? Isn’t this the perfect logo to stop this war?
Regards,
Sandra Stammberg.
Welcome from me too!
I second the welcome :)! Glad you decided to de-lurk.
And with your nickname, it looks like you and our gardening and nature type folks will have lots to talk about.
Wow, thanks Nanette! And you nailed it… I DO have plenty to talk about with the garden and nature types here LOL. Our first snowdrops bloomed today, and we’re worried that the other bulbs may get a bit excited about coming up, with all this warm weather here lately. 2nd warmest January on record so far here … and Bush doesn’t believe in global warming? We do, and we’re worried. I look forward to gardening talk as winter (maybe) winds down here in the “hinterlands” (as W called us in 2004… dolt). If you’d like to see our flowers, go to my woefully out of date website to see more… I promise I will update it more this spring and summer… if work will let me spend more time on it. Thx again, and may the fleurs be with you…
Make sure you drop into the froggy bottom cafe and say hi. Me, I’m the type that kills even plastic plants, but I do love to look at lovely flowers and so on. But there are folks in the cafe (and around the site) that can actually grow things! And put up lovely photos, as well, sometimes.
I love the ones at your site… gorgeous!
Nanetee, Thanks for the kind input on my woefully out of date site! It’s a lot of fun making them grow, and taking nice pics … I hope to have more this summer to share with all the Boo Tribbers round here. Glad you enjoyed those from last summer and the previous year. 🙂
Welcome!
Welcome IVG. So very good to have you here and looking forward to your diaries.
Morning Frogsters and Welcome de-lurkers. The more the merrier I always say. I feel it is too early to be firm in who I would support but at this point the ONLY one on the list that speaks out consistantly, holds a majority of the same positions on the issues as I do and is the onl sane one that voted against the illegal occupation of Iraq is Russ. I loved it the other day when he came out and said that Gonzales lied to him about “spying” on AMericans! Go Russ. I too would love to see our “real” President running Pres. Gore.
What a bunch of losers these Senators are! We should really look for leadership from the House or the Governors.
