   While Senate Democrats could not muster enough votes to extend the enrollment deadline for the new Medicare drug benefit, many lawmakers sound like they’re going to continue to try to make changes in the program.

   Other than that paragraph, it looks to me like the same thing that was up there yesterday!

   Why did I expect anything different?

     At least Levin & Stabenow are trying.  This is from Friday’s Detroit Free Press:

     “Michigan Democratic Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow introduced legislation Thursday to address what they call major structural problems with the Medicare drug plans.

     The bill, called the Medicare Part D Reform Act of 2006, proposes to:

     Prohibit the clause that allows Medicare drug plans to change the list of prescription drugs they will pay for during a calendar year. Instead, the bill proposes that insurance companies only be allowed to change their list of covered drugs, called formularies, on Jan. 1 each year after giving patients notice during the period when patients may change plans.

     Eliminate prescription-drug co-pays for patients who can’t afford them and who used to receive their prescription drugs through Medicaid.

     Eliminate parts of the Medicare act that resulted in low-income seniors being cut off from pharmaceutical companies’ drug discount programs if they participated in a Medicare prescription-drug plan.

     Allow the federal government to save money by negotiating bulk discount pricing for drugs purchased through the Medicare prescription-drug benefit.

       Caught that one.  But, it doesn’t go far enough, IMO.  Repeal the whole damn thing and replace it w/a single payer system!

   GI JOE CORRESPONDENT:  Do we have the capability to “take out” their nuclear plants with air power?

   “SENIOR OFFICIAL”:  HELL YES!!

   I wish that was a joke, or something to laugh at, or that I hadn’t heard it tonight.  CBS has indeed been taken over by Neo-Clones.
