Do You Know What It Means To Miss New Orleans
written by Louis Armstrong
as performed on Our New Orleans – A Benefit Album
Do you know what it means
to miss New Orleans,
and miss it each night and day?
I know I’m not wrong,
this feeling’s gettin’ stronger
the longer I stay away.
Miss them moss covered vines,
the tall sugar pines
where mockin’ birds used to sing
And I’d like to see
that lazy Mississippi
hurryin’ into spring
The moonlight on the bayou
a creole tune that fills the air
I dream about magnolias in bloom
and I’m wishin’ I was there
Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans,
when that’s where you left your heart?
And there’s one thing more
I miss the one I care for
more than I miss New Orleans

The War on Veterans
February 9, 2006
This is what I added to the beginning:
Not Waiting Till They Become Us Older Vets, Getting Them Fresh Out Of Theater As Their Buddies Are Being Killed!!
And the ‘Majority’ in this Country ‘Could Care Less’, Nothing New There Though, That’s How It’s Always Been!! Send them off to Invade a Small Country, who’s people didn’t deserve the Death and Destruction, for those on these shores their Military is Out Of Site-Out Of Mind, In Theater and At Home!!!!
This is the VCS E-Mail Body:
CIVIC (Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict) is a Washington-based nonprofit organization founded by Marla Ruzicka, who was killed on April 16, 2005 by a suicide bomb in Baghdad while advocating for the families of Iraqi civilians killed and injured in the conflict. CIVIC believes that civilian casualties should be counted and their families assisted by the governments responsible, and is working to identify victims and help their families.

“All experience hath shown that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for thir future security.” :
The Declaration of Independence (1776)

Call for Artists!
Soldier’s Heart is a website dedicated to
information and resources for combat-related PTSD. In the spirit of “wellness
through the arts”, the site provides a gallery of artwork by veterans. This
art can take any form that can be presented on the web: photography, poetry,
prose, videography, painting, images of sculpture, etc.
Recently given an award of excellence by “The Poet Watch” website, and in
anticipation of upcoming publicity for the site, I am pushing out this call
for veteran artists to apply for inclusion in the artists’ gallery.
Soldiersheart makes very few editorial judgements; if the work is original
and not pornographic, it should fit right in. It does not necessarily have to
follow a “military” or “veteran” theme; the goal is to show the full spectrum
of artwork by veterans.
If it is work that you already have up on the web, sending a URL would be
fine for perusing it. It’s up to you.
Peace and solidarity,
Sean T Lewis

Out of Iraq Now!
Impeachment NOW!
It is a beautiful, vibrant country now. It gave me such hope. I think seeing it was very healing for the Vietnam War-era members of our (mostly American) group.
In a tourist shop, I bought a beautifully carved Buddha head, with the most peaceful expression. I sent it to my nephew, who was then deployed with his Nat’l Guard unit in Iraq. I wanted him to know that the most wartorn place could yet be transformed into a peaceful and thriving land.
