Buon giorno! Parla inglese? Io non capisco molto bene l’italiano. Io conosco solo poche parole.
Lei mi capisce?
And that about uses up any Italian I know that would be of use here (there’s no point in asking you where the bathroom is since I’m not coming all the way to the west coast to use yours.)
Although on the east coast they are getting close to the time to say Buona Sera (good evening).
I’m back and of course I was cheating. I still don’t know how to link, but I went to altavista-babel fish translation. Type in what you want and it translates I don’t know how many languages.
Well, I’ve said it like this to people I meet in person;
Since BushCo got into office I’ve made an estimation of what damage they’re doing, call that the tip of the iceberg. Then I assume 6/7s more. Time passes and we see those 6/7s.
And then it seems those 7/7s become the new 1/7 tip of the next iceberg… and on and on and on.
Even as brilliant and well informed as we lefties think we are I think we are seriously underestimating the damage being done, and how long it will take to correct it all, assuming the “pendulum” does reach the end of it’s rightward swing.
Hey, play along — you’re here, too. LA for brunch, Torino in the evening — it’s the magic of the internet! (thank GOD for Al Gore!) So I don’t know about your Torino, but my Torino is COLD! Makes it cozy in the cafes, though.
I’m leaving soon for a chat with Sen Conrad, at a couple of diff venues, first in bi-partisan “appreciation” event, the one with our progressive coaltion, which is within the Dem-NPL party of ND.
Got anything you’d like me to ask a D Sen who voted against the F and for Alito???
I’ve been a big Sasha fan for a long time. Unlike the rest of the world, I never got excited about Michelle Kwan. Guess its the thing in me that tends to gravitate towards the “bad kids.” I always loved to watch McEnroe and Navratilova beat Borg and “Chrisy the Ice Princess.” It looks to me like Sasha is a bit of a bitch – but boy is she beautiful to watch!!
Me, too. Even when she was, like 13 or something, you saw her skate and were just blown away. I can’t imagine what it must have been like for her, growing up with everyone in the world seeing that in you and then all the expectations.
Anyway, she was a Diva, but she got the wind knocked out of her sails at the last Olympics and has been having a really rough time, crumbling under pressure at most of the big events. I’ve been feeling sorry for her and I really hope she pulls this one off. When she’s on, she’s the best skater in the world. She’s the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
My first day back at work was okay. Nice to be out of the house but the catching up I am having to do at work after being gone two and a half months is unreal.
I hope everyone had a fabulous day and didn’t miss me too much.
Thank goodness you translated all of that! I have to leave for a meeting and couldn’t possibly have figured it out quickly. I was guessing that you washed yourself a lot today. Lavoro?
I’m glad it went well but I’ll bet you are still pretty wrung out by it. I prescribed an evening vegging out on the couch and indulging in your favorite comfort foods.
It’s amazing to see the color out here now, maryb. Generally we should have a foot or two of snow on the ground & absolutely no sign of budding for at least another month.
Too odd for words, really. Saddening, too, in a sense.
Glad to see you chillin’ out here at the cafe’ . I’m finishing up a late supper, probably heading offline soon.
Thankfully, today’s power-out was brief. We seem to have short outages on a weekly basis lately — I call them ‘outies’ š
That would be a wild 5 minutes with Atrios. Remember, he’s only good for quickies.
No wild times tonight. It seems like every group I’m in meets on Wednesday nights. So every Wednesday I don’t get home until after 9:00. But nothing exciting.
I turned on the Olympics earlier but it looked like that ski stuff where they flip around, so I didn’t really watch it.
I’m just hanging around not-watching the Olympics, too. I’ve been so caught up in the figure skating, I feel all out of sorts. The last one is tomorrow. I’m gonna be bereft when it’s over!
Do you think I should put up a new cafe for overnight?
I’m signed up, but I haven’t posted anything yet. In fact, I haven’t been really writing much at all lately. But I do plan on cross-posting there when I have a local topic. I’m really liking it over there and think you’re post would be welcome.
(btw, I just put up a new cafe, so I’ll be moving over there now. Feel free to stop in and say hi)
But if you’re going to be around for a while you don’t have to do it yet. We’re only at 78. And there aren’t many images, so it isn’t loading too slow.
I need more info — half of them are itty-bitty. You don’t mean Sasha Cohen? Wait — there was one in a black dress with a red lace-up front and back. Is that the one?
No, she wasn’t american. She skated in the first or second set. I don’t remember what she wore. Just that she had a lot of speed. And she was very young.
I think it was the one in black and red. I can’t remember where she was from, but they said how tiny she was a couple of times and Scott said he’d been watching her in practice. I just looked at the photo gallery on the Olympic site, but they don’t have a photo of her.
I found this and thought it was funny — Weirisms. Sample quote:
On his hotel room in the Olympic Village: ”I’m very princessy as far as travel is concerned, having a nice room and things like that. I hate carrying my own luggage. I hate trekking up stairs. I like a nice bed to be laid out for me, so it’s not any of that. It’s a little dusty, very under-decorated, the beds aren’t very soft. But I’m enjoying it. I’m roughing it. It’s the same thing as me going out into the woods.”
and
On hearing the news he made the Olympic team: “My mom is getting drunk already.”
That’s the one — he said that he’d been watching her in practice.
I always like to follow the ones who won’t win the medels this time, but will next time.
What’s the story with the men’s speed skating — are they having a feud over something? I saw a piece of a press conference and things didn’t look happy.
Yeah, Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick. I can’t stand Hedrick. He wanted to win 5 medals and had a fit because Davis sat out a race. Then, when Davis beat him yesterday, Hedrick wouldn’t shake his hand and Davis called him on it in a press conference.
Nearly lost in the hullaballoo (I’ve never used that word before, and I have no idea why I’m starting now) of the Chad Hedrick/Shani Davis post-race news conference yesterday, is the fact that members of the Dutch curling team showed up for the sole purpose of heckling Chad Hedrick. In turn, I suppose that probably makes Chad Hedrick a dutch hater. Izhn’t that veird? Regardless of whose side you’re taking in the Hedrick/Davis feud, I think you’d have to agree: When the Dutch curling team shows up to heckle someone, it is awesome.
I don’t know! Somewhere in there, though, it says that the Dutch love Davis and hate Hedrick. Davis does endorsement deals and everything over there. It also says the curling team showed up with Davis’ mom! The whole thing’s just awesome. I want a Dutch Curling Posse to help me heckle people! No more disputes with the bank or trying to return something to the store!
If it’s the one I’m thinking of, she wasn’t. We have three skaters in the competition — Cohen, Kimmie Meisner who came in 5th, and Emily Hughes, who’s the sister of Sarah and came in 7th.
Okay, I admit I’ve never been to Italy. I hope my Italian is okay.

Um… grazie?
Translation: “Good Day! Do you speak English? I don’t speak Italian very well. I don’t know many words. Do you understand me?”
So you can answer in English š
George sta dicendo porta sulla pasta.
If I got it right, it should translate to George says bring on the pasta.
Giorgio! Ho fame!
Vi preoccupereste per un certo vino in primo luogo?
Or would a gluwein be better?
si
una bottiglia di rosso? per due?
Volontà è il vino di casa o la bottiglia dei 500 dollari.
I see you’ve found the translator too :).
che? “translator”?
500 dollari?
Il vino di casa per favore.
Per la signora bella tutto il vino soddisfa. Ma George dovrà servirlo. Prende l’orgoglio in suoi vini.
La signora bella tutto? (smile)
Mi chiamo Maria. E lei?
Sorry mary you lost me on that one, but I loved your comment on chenny drunk.
I’ve got to go and run an errand, be back in a while.
Ha! You just didn’t want to translate “Family Man” into italian.
And what translation program. I’m doing this from memory and a little Italian dictionary. Were you cheating?
I’m back and of course I was cheating. I still don’t know how to link, but I went to altavista-babel fish translation. Type in what you want and it translates I don’t know how many languages.
A WAG at the translation:
Buon giorno!: Hello or good some part of the day.
Parla inglese?: Pleeeeesease let you speak English.
Io non capisco molto bene l’italiano.: I don’t understand Italian for shit.
Io conosco solo poche parole.: One of my dogs is on parole for some crime involving Conseco.
Big Eddie Radio that SD had passed the anti-abortion bill that’s been discussed here recently.
Eddie said it would be headed to SCOTUS
Thanks for the link and letting us know.
Looks like I got some serious drinkin’ to do…
Well, I’ve said it like this to people I meet in person;

You sure fly fast, Izzy! How’s the weather over there?
Hey, play along — you’re here, too. LA for brunch, Torino in the evening — it’s the magic of the internet! (thank GOD for Al Gore!) So I don’t know about your Torino, but my Torino is COLD! Makes it cozy in the cafes, though.
Would you believe my Torino has 250,000 miles on it and sits in the front yard on blocks?
</runs for the door>
I hoped NDD you don’t ever have to go visit next door — it’s a state I won’t be going to.
Thank the cosmic muffin for the woods.
will have to come and visit me for a change.
Eddie was saying there were a bunch of other states working on passing similar bills.
We’ve got lots of beautiful landscape her in ND, so you can just skip SD.
Ford, the Quality’s gone south
Need a lift?
Peace
looks like that should help.
I’ll be out the door in 5-10 min.
Yes I do, but it would land you in jail…or at the least, get you thrown out.
Maybe you could ‘politely’ point out to him the hypocrisy of the combined votes…might even open a few eyes in the audience.
Call his ass on it!
Peace
well, I’m out the door.
Don’t spend my bail money while I’m gone.
Dare we hope tomorrow?

oops forgot the translation. LOL
My first day back at work was okay. Nice to be out of the house but the catching up I am having to do at work after being gone two and a half months is unreal.

Anyway, gotta go. Mi dispiace.
A piu tarde.
Oh, glad you had a good day back!
LOL.. I cheated and use babel fish to translate in to italian.
I’m glad it went well but I’ll bet you are still pretty wrung out by it. I prescribed an evening vegging out on the couch and indulging in your favorite comfort foods.
ty. I am exhausted and am having cheese and crackers for dinner cause I do not feel like cooking. LOL
I know that meal, only my version of it is hummus and baby carrots.
well the cheese was here and I didn’t feel like going to the store. LOL
Glad to hear work went well today. Now sit back and veg out at the cafe.
Thanks!!!
Ora per il dessert, una ciotola grande di gelato che realmente non dovrei mangiare. LOL
Now for dessert, a big bowl of ice cream that I really should not be eating. LOL

For my fellow dial-up sufferers (That’s not srufers misspelled.), let it download, less than 10 min., and replay it.
I just saw it and that was great.
Time to head to bed. Everyone have a pleasant night.
Goonight!
I think I’ll follow Family Man’s lead and say good night to everybody.
Great job today, Izzy. You are an el primo host!
Goodnight, Andi, and thanks for all your help!
To every thing there is a season — but which one?
A little Catskills beech tree in full bud. Note the frozen pond below!
That’s lovely.
It’s amazing to see the color out here now, maryb. Generally we should have a foot or two of snow on the ground & absolutely no sign of budding for at least another month.
Too odd for words, really. Saddening, too, in a sense.
Hope you yourself are doing well.
It’s been an odd winter all around.
I’m good. I always get home late on Wednesdays so I’m just puttering around.
Glad to see you chillin’ out here at the cafe’ . I’m finishing up a late supper, probably heading offline soon.
Thankfully, today’s power-out was brief. We seem to have short outages on a weekly basis lately — I call them ‘outies’ š
what causes them?
Depends on the season, generally. Right now I’d say it’s a combination of ice on weak tree limbs & high wind. In summer it’s generally lightning.
washington too…please read my post on measure 37 – it ain’t over ’til the fat lady sings and we have until July to get an initiative on the ballot.
Well, ’tis the season for goo, no doubt.
Thanks for the post, Cedwyn — I’m on the other coast but I believe we have some NW cafe’ regulars.
When I first glanced at it I thought it said Goodtribbers — as opposed to badtribbers.
š
I wonder what the difference would be .. ?
I won’t hazard a guess – but certainly you and I are among the good not the bad š
Especially regarding our very own rendition of ‘Let It Snow’ š
I believe I’m ready to turn in here. The blankets call lovingly from beneath the felines …
See you later!
good night
Good night, all — off to grab some dinner, finally.
You guys are making me sleepy.
sorry — i’m still awake. Want me to shout WAKE UP!
Yes! Tell me all about your wild night with Atrios!! Or, I mean… about your evening doing whatever perfectly innocent thing it was you were doing…
LOL
That would be a wild 5 minutes with Atrios. Remember, he’s only good for quickies.

thanks! do you post there?

(btw, I just put up a new cafe, so I’ll be moving over there now. Feel free to stop in and say hi)
Hey, I’m over here. So we don’t bust the margins.
I’d do it whenever you check out for the night.
But if you’re going to be around for a while you don’t have to do it yet. We’re only at 78. And there aren’t many images, so it isn’t loading too slow.
Thanks! I was going to say earlier that you did really well on Saturday. I meant to drop in, but the day got away from me, but I did lurk a little.
I can’t believe Lost is a rerun tonight! AND no skating!
Thanks, I had fun. But there’s no way every Saturday can be like that. I have too much else to do.
Who was that little bitty girl that Scott Hamilton liked so much last night. I came in late and I missed who she was, but I really liked her.

Hedrick is the one from Texas? He seems like he’d be from Texas.
Yup. Texas. I thought this was funny.
VERY funny,
What did he do to piss off the Dutch curling team? Take away their practice time on the ice or something? Or did he badmouth curling and the Dutch?
I don’t know! Somewhere in there, though, it says that the Dutch love Davis and hate Hedrick. Davis does endorsement deals and everything over there. It also says the curling team showed up with Davis’ mom! The whole thing’s just awesome. I want a Dutch Curling Posse to help me heckle people! No more disputes with the bank or trying to return something to the store!
Heh
This could be their off season job — showing up to heckle on behalf of people.
Plus, after the dust settles there’s someone to sweep up.
Actually I don’t know if she was American or not since I don’t know who she was — for some reason I assumed she wasn’t.
If it’s the one I’m thinking of, she wasn’t. We have three skaters in the competition — Cohen, Kimmie Meisner who came in 5th, and Emily Hughes, who’s the sister of Sarah and came in 7th.
All night cafe is open.
