So far, I’m hosting a naked blog-in — HERE, in a new thread — starting at 5 pm PT / 8 pm ET, where we’ll share some of the wildest things we’ve done in our lives. Come on, I dare you. And then I’m watching Annette Bening as Jean Harris in HBO’s new movie tonight. You? (And it’s an open thread.)
Update [2006-2-25 16:4:49 by susanhu]: The Discovery Channel is showing Werner Herzog’s “Grizzly Man” tonight and tomorrow at 8pm ET/PT. (Darcy is reading a book about “grizzly man,” and says that Herzog’s movie is very slanted and inaccurate, but that the grizzly man’s own photography shown throughout is incredible.)
From David Sirota:
FYI – Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) is being profiled on CBS’s 60 Minutes this Sunday about his work pushing innovative energy solutions for America. Check your local listings to find out when the piece will air where you are. To see a preview of the piece, go to:
CBS
Thanks, will Tivo (bless tivo and its variations)
Oh god bless you my friend, I would have forgotten about Mrs. Harris. Good thing the naked blog-in is first, I won’t have to worry about not having anything to wear.
What a rootin’ tootin’ Saturday night special.
I think appropriately hung boas would be alright, don’t you?
Say, did you ever read Shana Alexander’s book about Jean Harris?
Very Much a Lady: The Untold Story of Jean Harris and Dr. Herman Tarnower
and Jean Harris’s book of their correspondence?
Marking Time: Letters from Jean Harris to Shana Alexander
I always loved Shana Alexander’s writing, particularly her memoir about her affair and caring for F. Scott Fitzgerald in his last years.
(I really hope that this movie tonight isn’t too satirical … this was a tragic love story and very sad, with his DRUGGING of her with all kinds of prescriptions he gave her.)
Boas to the rescue, when we tell a particularly, uhhhhh, expose of our past we can fling that boa over our shoulders.
I haven’t read Shans Alexander’s books but I do know she and Jean were very close. I read some of the excerpts of the letters and they were heartwrenching.
Thanks for reminding me of the books. Shana Alexander’s memoir on F. Scott was one of those books I couldn’t put down.
I have to go now so I can dig out my boas and decide on which color is jusstttttttt right for tonight.
Oh yes!
(By the way, I can delete messages should anyone feel regrets about what they write. I’m laughing. Have gladly done it a couple times for some rueful folks.)
I wish I had a lovely martini glass. I’d get Cabin Girl to make some of those pomegranate martinis … and I’d spill some … oh just never mind … honestly, Susan.
Sorry, I’ll have to be there in spirit. My mother (age 85) is having a sleep-over at my house this weekend. She wouldn’t approve. Wish I got HBO, wish I looked like Annette.
Even in my youth I was hesitant about public nudity. But now – we’re going all the way ’till the wheels fall off and burn! Lead me to the geezer section, I got some friends inside there.
I guarantee I’m very naked under these clothes.
Yeah, me too. I tried out for a Tom Stoppard play at Stanford but it required a full frontal nudity scene, and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.
Some of us just have too much innate modesty – i almost think it’s genetic.
But, this way on a blog, we can all pretend!
If you’re anxious to see the movie, i’d be glad to send you a tape. I’m already taping it THREE times tonight for those who pay for my HBO + my nice neighbor who recently cancelled his HBO. He gives me his local paper every day so I don’t have to buy a newspaper, and that’s the least i can do for him. Would be glad to do it for you too.
HI, MOM! Hope you two have fun!
It’s so kind of you to offer – but I’m about as far away from you as possible, too much trouble. I’ll just wait ’till they put it out for rent, like we always do. Let me know how you like it.
Oh, lord, life with mother – it’s been forty years, but for a few desperate intervals. We’re a coupla bossy dames trying to get along. My horoscope warned me to keep my mouth shut, so I mostly am.
Just coming to the pond to vent and frolic naked.
If you’re not doing anything right now – tune into c-span and watch “The State of the Black Union.” Travis Smiley is hosting a discussion group with most of the black leaders of today. He does this regularly and they are always important sessions. And if they replay it on c-span – try to watch, because you’ve alreay missed Harry Belafonte explain why he called Bush a terrorist.
I was going to watch Bill Mahr with a couple friends, but now I want to watch the Annette movie….right now I am cleaning my house little by little.
Thank god HBO runs its shows several times each week.
You won’t want to miss Maher. He makes some really good points. And then his last bit had me laughing so hard my tummy really, truly hurt.
Starting right now, Tipper Gore interviews her daughter on her daughter’s new book — C-Span2
…Grizzly Man wasn’t really the narcissitic egotist that Herzog’s film showed him to be? I’d love to be able to get the sour residue from thinking he deserved to be eatern out of my brain.
I called Darcy to reply to your post.
The book: The Grizzly Maze … “”Jans (Tracks of the Unseen, etc.) presents a fast-paced, thoughtful and evenhanded account …”
Darcy says it’s a more balanced portrait of the man.
And Darcy also hated that, at the end of the doc, Herzog said he didn’t see any compassion, etc. in the bears’ eyes … (what’s the animal form of the word dehumanizing) thereby dehumanizing them, demonizing the bears
Watch the Jayhawks beat Texas tonight in College B-ball.
Where are all the naked people? I’m looking, but I don’t see anyone. Alas . . .
;0)
Why aren’t you posting in the nekked thread?
Played pool with my Maricel, (her new obsession) and she was happy to take 3 for 5. Tivoing the Olympics and FF thru the boring stuff. We have caucuses in Maine tomorrow and I recruited two quality candidates to run for the legislature so their ‘debut’ if you will is tomorrow and that’s good. We staggered the town caucuses so they can make all of them. I did my good deed for the day, stopped by the houses of two realtively new people in town to invite them to the caucus. We also watched ‘Nowhere in Africa’ good flic, took a ‘nap’ and kept our wood fire going, it got cold for a couple days. Ignoring the bush and the growing sense of dread. He will honor Gandhi while willingly sending ever more youth to death and passing sentence on the world. Sick. Happy caucus days–the root of democracy. We are fighting back and we will win. We have to.
Tonight? Just posting about goofy stuff.
