What are your Oscar picks?
De la Renta. Oh, and while I’m changing the subject, BooMan, have you ever considered a readers blogs section like they have over at dailyk…, err, big orange?
how about you post a diary for people to submit their blogs and I’ll create a section for it?
Does that sound like a plan?
Cool!
will probably have the big nights, but I’m hoping that Hollywood will encourage the MSM to get some cojones by honoring “Good Night and Good Luck” (plus it’s the only one of the nominees I’ve actually seen).
Well I watched that Eddie Murphy movie “Coming to America” tonight. Hilarious as always. Afraid I don’t know anything whatsoever about new movies.
Good luck to whomever is good, tho!

Hi Soj. I’m the same on new movies. Haven’t seen a one and probably won’t until they come out on TV. Now I’m figuring for Brokeback Mountain that should be around 2050 or sometime.
please help get this dkos diary recommended:

it’s a very important action item about saving public lands – we are in the 30-day public comment period.
Nicole Kidman or Reese Witherspoon, or they may tie.
On White Trash TV last night, the spokesblonde predicted lots of red, and that means lots of blondes wearing red, which is just wrong. Blondes have no business wearing red and should stop doing it.
And sure enough, there was the spokesblonde, in a skintight red satin 1960 Barbie style gown that would have actually looked much less garish on her if it had been pale blue. But no.
And just so the blondes do not think I am picking on them, watch out for Maria Carey, who just might blow Nicole and Reese both back to the trailer park nearest the arena.
And if Halle Berry shows up, she thinks she can do just anything now, so she just might.
And do I need to mention JLo? Since we are talking about Oscar-suitable attire, I don’t think it would be appropriate, so I won’t.
Best dressed will be Queen Latifa, as usual. She has a stylist who knows what to do with that bosom, excuse me ladies, but she (or he) just does.
Renee Zellwegger may come dressed as Bjork, in which case all bets are off.
I’ll jump in here and give my opinion on who might win..not necessarily who I want to win but how I think the Academy might vote.
Best Picture……Crash
Best Director…..Ang Lee for Brokeback Mountain
Best Actor……..Phillip Seymour Hoffan or maybe and upset with a tie this year between him and Heath Ledger.
Best Actress……Felicity Huffman(another possible upset to odds on favorite of Witherspoon)
Best supporting Actor……George Clooney for Syrian
Best supporting Actress….Michelle Williams/Brokeback
Original Screenplay……..for Crash
Adadted Screenplay………Brokeback Mountain
And I fully expect to be wrong on almost all counts..but you asked Boo.
Crash for best picture
David Strathairn for best actor
Felicity Huffman for best actress
George Clooney for best supporting actor
George Clooney for best original screenplay
George Clooney for best art direction for Good Night and Good Luck
George Clooney for best cinematography for Good Night and Good Luck
Felicity Huffman will look amazing
George Clooney will knock our socks off, or at least mine.
George needs to win something, just so we can hear what he has to say. Maybe he’ll thank Brownie and say that he couldn’t have anticipated winning.
“Hustle & Flow” is one of the more provocative films I’ve seen in a long time. Treading some similar terrain, it makes “Crash” (also liked) look almost awkward & tame in comparison. Race, class, gender, exploitation, misogyny all butt up against the viewer’s assumptions in thought-provoking ways. “everyone needs a dream.”
I loved “Constant Gardener” — story, acting, cinematography — & then to watch the short on the dvd about the making of the film, their attempt to be repsonsible actors, rather than exploitative tourists
We don’t get out to the movies anymore, so haven’t seen quite a few nominees. “Good Night and Good Luck” & “Syriana” are high on the to-see list.

afraid that by the time the network censors get through with him, Jon Stewart will be the biggest Oscar host flameout since Whoopie Goldberg? The network hotshots don’t want controversy — they want to keep Mr. and Mrs. Middle America watching the whole four hour shebang…
Who knows – maybe they have a little controversy in mind.
Why else would they have picked him? He’s synonymous with it. It would be a huge let down if not.
