Clean tables; cold beer; no other promises
Excellent. I finally have a use for this.
looks good in here
do you have a pool table up your sleeve?
How’s this one?
It’s fine — a little nicer than the ones I see in the dives I go to. Not sure where you put the quarters — but I’m not complaining.
Well, I thought we were about nothing but class tonight.
Not up my sleeve but these were in Sniff’s dog house.
This is great – we have enough tables to have a tournament tonight.
I guarantee that I will be the first to scratch.
no I’m terrible at pool. But I like to watch people play.
Sniff has a dog house big enough for 2 pool tables?
It’s right next to the wet bar.
Can I live with Sniff?
We’d be delighted to have you but Sniff wants to warn you that he’s not sharing any of the dead stuff he finds in the woods.
I was just thinking George doesn’t play well with others. So I’m here. I am jealous of Sniff though.
Sniff and Bu would get along just fine…she’s got a Snooker table downstairs…and she’s a hellava shooter…even has her own cue. Can you say “Hustler”…She be Bad.
Peace
Sniff will be glad to play 8 ball with Bu but since he’s so much smaller he thinks Giddy should get to help him reach some of the shots.
‘Crutches’ are allowed, as long they keep one foot on the floor….a decided advantage over us bi-peds.
Peace
You’ve got to be kidding about the Snooker Table, please.
No. If you’re used to playing snooker on a regulation table (6′ x 12′ w/ narrow pockets and much smaller balls <no cheap shots, please>, pool’s like shootin’ fish in a barrel.
Peace
cause I laid in quite a stock of beer
I knew there was a reason I liked hanging out with you.
glad to hear it
Class is not about the place, but the people 🙂
Besides, there’s no sawdust on the pond floor.
that’s what this place needs — sawdust on the floor
that way when Family Man barfs we won’t have to clean it up
Hey there, all! Greetings from the Catskills at the end of another clear, chilly day. Hope everyone’s enjoying a wonderful weekend.
Me, I couldn’t be more pleased — due to continuing mobility troubles, yet another kind neighbor stepped up to the plate today & brought edible/caffeinated sustenance to our woodland haven.
If you’ve ever lived for a week on spaghetti, toast & eggs, you have some idea of my level of contentment this evening. I’ve returned (for now) to the land of the living & my cognitive functions are gradually reaching prior (fair-to-middlin’) levels.
And now to the fire. No ice cold beverages for me, thanks 😉
What about some warm apple cider with a splash of spiced rum?
I always underestimate ej
There are some things I’m very good at. Encouraging drinking happens to be one of them, for better or worse.
I’m going to design an award for you. Just have to think of an appropriate design.
I admit I’m a little frightened of what you might come up with.
Thanks to you both for your welcoming courtesy! (Need I say ‘warmth’?)
Alas, your wilderness ally hasn’t touched booze in about 20 years now. Seems best to wait until we see the hind end of GWB to pick up again — or I may never be sober again!
The cider sounds good, though. Anything hot sounds good — including hot water . Or especially hot water 😉
If you’ve made it through 5 years of GWB sober (that’s you sober, not GWB), I don’t think you’ll ever be tempted to drink again.
Somehow I think the worst is yet to come, ej. In that case, better him than me!
I think the only other thing we have is Everclear straight from the bottle — and while that will make you warm for a moment — I don’t recommend it.
Today I got myself some homemade chocolate-covered espresso beans. I must’ve been thinking of you on some level and your coffee contentedness swarmed me.
Now… where the hell do you live?? Do you get mail delivered?? 🙂 I’ll mail you some beanies if you’d like.
My ears are much better. After a hike today, see pix in other cafe… I’ve discovered a serious fear of heights that has grown. So doctor will be alerted because it was almost day ruining for us. But I did it 🙂
Anyways, wish you lived nearby – it’s nice here in Portland area of Oregon. … I’d buy you a coffee drinkie anytime Wench 🙂 Take care and be well. XOXOXOX
doesn’t eating those make you totally wired?
Ha! I’m pretty wired anyways so I wouldn’t notice one way or another. 🙂
You’re an absolute sweetheart, DJ. Luscious, too
😉
Thanks so much for the beany offer. Alas, due to years of serious self-abuse my adrenal glands are totally shot & I can’t quite do chocolate (or caf coffee, unfortunately). Basically, stimulants turn me into a six-armed ape blossoming with little red snakes. It’s not pretty.
For any future reference, I do get mail delivered — but not at home 🙂
So glad to hear your ears are better! I seem to have a truly lousy time with any illness or imbalance above the shoulders — so I fully sympathize.
Also sympathize with your heights problem. I’m aflicted with the same problem, though it’s a relatively new thing. I’ve heard it has to do with aging.
I did see your image in the other cafe’. Beautiful! You’re terrifically fortunate to have overcome difficulties & experienced such a lovely place.
Wouldn’t it be great if I lived nearby, though?
Alas, I’m at the other end.
Hi WW, glad to hear you are feeling better and have such nice neighbors.
The height thing, I don’t know. I’ve had it pretty much since I was a kid.
Some folks do have a life-long heights thing, others pick it up later. Either way it’s no fun & can truly get in the way. I’ve been offered roofing work that I had to pass up; I’m also looking to take down an old cabin, which involves more roof-climbing, & I’m busily wondering how the hell I’ll do it.
I have a big prob with depth perception ever since I was young. Blew out my eardrum, actually it was drilled into – when I was 19 and ever since the heights, going down stairs has been “swell”. I’ll talk to the doc about it … because I can now. We’re covered. Will be my first time in – in over 4 years.
I think it has more to do with my ear than it has to do with depth perception or dyslexia.
I sound like such a wussbag lately huh? LOL The dyslexia actually explains alot of things about me that I either took for granted or took for just being weird.
No you don’t. BTW I went back to the last cafe and read about your talk with Wesley. He’s got great parents.
If there’s one thing I’d say you’re not, DJ, it’s a wussbag 😉
It takes a strong body to hold a strong spirit; sometimes the body isn’t all the way up to the task. But we do what we can.
I can certainly ‘hear’ you on the dyslexia. Your bravery & honesty in sharing your condition has helped me realize I’ve probably always been dealing with the something of the same thing, but I just thought I was — yes — weird. So I thank you for that.
You’re welcome. 🙂 It explains and answered ALOT for me. I wasn’t diagnosed with it till 30. And that was by sheer fluke as my son was the one at the center and a tech saw my “tricks of the trade” and asked me if I was dyslexic I was all “NO” I’m here about autism regarding my son. And he laughed.. That I loved to read and could read very well with no porblems that I volunteer read etc etc.
Then … I’m spatial type of nutcase 🙂
I’m sorry to her you’re is that bad. Mine is bad coming down off the roof. Going up I seem OK.
OOps I meant: Between my eyes and my ears… somewhere lies the cause LOL
But I’m one hell of a tree climber, go figure.
Trees are different, I think. They embrace you.
Necessities for working at heights, not necessarily in the order of importance.
Thank you for this, NDD. You’re the greatest.
I’ll save this to my files for reference.
Indeed, it’s been quite a few years since I worked high (no pun intended, though it’s true either way). What a shame it would be to let some perfectly good roofing material go to waste, though — especially as there may not be any roofing for a new place otherwise, the purse being what it is. We’ll see though — maybe a helper or two will be into it.
Thanks again!
either me or someone else I know has paid dues on the above, so might as well pass the tips along…
BTW, the author I mentioned before, Barry Lopez, Arctic Dreams is a speaker at UND’s Writers’ Conference on March 21-25. So I’m excited and very much hoping to attend as I have a tremendous appreciation for his work, and his understanding of human connections to nature.
I’ll do your share of caffiene then 🙂 More than happy to take up the slack 🙂
Yeah, my Mr. was surprised about the signs of vertigo. I just thought I was a bit of a pussy. LOL But it seems to be getting more in the way. But I did the trail. Also didn’t help I didn’t have the proper shoes. That’ll be fixed.
I love Portland. City AND hiking all in one area. I’m blessed to be here.
Did some CodePink calls today, too. AND Hockey Night in Canada – two games Maple Leafs and Ottawa – then Sharks versus Calgary. I’m in heaven. Plus got to see Ti Domi get a big to do about him. I love Domi.
Yes, get yourself the right footwear! It sure helps to feel ‘grounded’ that way.
All in all it sounds like you’ve had a great time this weekend!
So happy you’re pleased with your new environment, too.
Hopefully your home sale will take place before long. Still sending that cash-green energy your way.
I realize my post about getting caffeine from my neighbor didn’t quite jibe with what I mentioned about stimulants. For me, ‘caffeinated’ means decaf (it’s generally about 7%).
Thankfully, this is all I have to do any more with any ‘seven per cent solution’ 😉
We have an REI nearby and the Mr is determined to get me some good boots like his – I had little slippy shoes on so it was like walking in heels as I had to tense my feet up to “grasp” the trail. So that sucked. LOL
Got some bids on the house 🙂 So thanks 🙂
jibe?? Hey, I live in a blonde, autism, left is right, no depth – world 🙂 It made sense to me in a wicked weird way 🙂
Since meeting folks online these past years, I will not discount not running into you one day. 🙂
I can definitely see it happening, too.
In the cleanest way, of course.
😉
I hope I get back to Portland some and I’ll take you hiking with me up to Paradise Meadow up on Mt. Hood and we will have a grand time.
I would love that so much Andi!!! I can pack a great pickynic basket!!
You make the picnic and we’ll put in my backpack. 🙂
Have you been to the downtown park along the Wilamette yet?
Glad you have nice neighbors — wouldn’t want you to start wondering how fricasseed cat tastes.
LOL
Not a chance, Andi. I’d sooner eat bark! (No pet pun intended.)
Actually, I do believe I’ve eaten cat — will spare you the details. Iirc, cat tastes like edible panties.
I’m gone for a minute and there’s a pool hall in the reading room. No more everclear until ——- Now.
Nah, I’d better stick with beer since this is a pool hall.
when your beer will just stick with you?
I’ve seen the promised land and it’s a walking beer.
He looks like he wants a hug, Family Man.
Does that mean free beer?
I think it’s as free as it gets. I mean, hugs don’t really cost anything, right?
Of course hugs for everybody and the big walking beer.
I think that big walking beer just grabbed your ass.
I’ve forgotten about the walking beer now. I’m on wine.
Wine has better “legs” : )
I’m not picky.
I was going to disagree with you, but after looking at the evidence, I really can’t.
wonder where she got those shoes . . .
although she’s a little overdressed for a pool hall
You think so? From this angle I can’t tell if she’s wearing any clothes at all.
the spike heels are the most important part of any outfit — according to my Nancy Drew guide to life:
“Spike heels come in handy when it is necessary to break glass. ( learned from Nancy’s Mysterious Letter)”
otherwise I can think of no use for them 😉
Well, if you think that’s the best way to get into a bottle of wine, a) you have a problem, and b) try a corkscrew.
Damn so many things to drink and so little time.
Is there a difference between a drunk and a wino?
I’m not sure, but I’ve heard that either is better than being a DINO.
Ya lost me there or either all the alcohol is kicking in.
Can’t it be both? 🙂
I was taking parts of both names and then making a political joke…
drunk + wino = dino
DINO = Democrat In Name Only
Yep it’s the alcohol, I’m slower than usual.
I’ve heard if you keep drinking then you’ll eventually come around full circle and be quicker than you were when you started.
I’ve never gotten to that level. But I’ll be damned if I haven’t tried.
Same here. I think it’s one of those goals drunks shoot for.
Like not falling off the floor.
If I remember correctly I was always worried about falling off the bed, or was it the earth?
I think the difference is that drunks aren’t particular.
Then today I’m a drunk.
I’m particular in that I don’t like wine. What does that make me?
someone who likes beer?
Sometimes I think you know me better than I know myself.
right back at ya
I’m heading out to the bar in real life now, but this should at least hold you over for a little while.
What it lacks in quality, it makes up for in quantity.
Good night everyone!
see ya
thanks for the beer
oh yeah
Now who was talking about NDD corrupting me earlier?
it’s true
Janet has been corrupting you for far longer
As I said before – group effort.
GOOD tequila – Not Jose or other crap… should never be “shot”.
Good tequila should be drank from mini snifters. Good tequila should be savored not shot.
Corazon a good start.
My baby at the falls today. We also went to the Multnomah Falls lodge. Was lovely.
She beautiful Janet.
…just like her mama. 🙂
Glad to hear everything is okay with Wes and his aborted “date” — you realize he’s probably so popular because he’s “new blood”. 😉 Hopefully things will calm down eventually…
What a sweetie and so clearly her mother’s daughter with that great sly smile. 😀
Now there’s a youngster who is obviously having a GREAT DAY. And no doubt one that will be remembered many years down the trail.
That’s a beautiful image of a truly beautiful child, DJ. Wow — so much love in those eyes. It almost breaks my heart!
She’s quite the bullshitter and I can see the “eeeveeel” in her smiles : )
As I have told RubDMC a few times – Danni is an activist, artist, poet and she’s gonna be one hell of a hell-raiser.
She’s already written politicians and given them a piece of her mind.
She also fought to keep UNICEF trick or treating at her school last year.
And she digs hockey 🙂
She’s a keeper.
Just wanted to thank all for the great birthday greetings today!
Spouse and I heading out to dinner in about half an hour; there’s a fairly new brewery/restaurant down the street from us (replaced an old brewery/restaurant that closed last year) that we’re going to check out. We’ll probably drive over to Borders for a bit afterwards; the Mac version of The Sims 2: Nightlife is due out sometime this month (or next), and I want to pick up a guidebook for it so I can get a preview of what to look forward to. 🙂
Pretty mellow birthday today…actually nice and peaceful… 🙂
Glad you are having such a good one. Enjoy.
Hey there, Cali! Seems like I missed the earlier festivities. Happy, happy birthday! May your next journey ’round the sun bring you everything you desire. Have a wonderful time tonight!
Happy Birthday CaliBeautyScribe!!! Already kicking my butt in the hockey pool (I’m sure Chucko will see your point message, if not; we’ll board him :))
For a real lady, a real taste of tequila. From a snifter. Like you – it’s to be savored.
Pool tournament continues in the new cafe
It is time for black forest cake
