I think my Dad had a thing for Lauren Bacall.

LOL at the political ad satire!!!
They didn’t pan over to her; I hope she was okay with that.
Bogie also had one of the biggest schlongs in Hollywood, with his little self.
tribute (went off to take a shower) — but caught the “campaign ads”. Jon seems to be on the button tonight, but I still wonder if he’s too cerebral for the audience…
thanked the Academy for seating her next to George Clooney during their annual luncheon…George looked at the camera, his whole expression said, what?
What’s up with the french penguins?
coming up with stuffed penguins — is this the Oscars or a Linux convention?
I hear that March of the Penguins movie is not exactly for kids, either. But they were touting it as the sleeper film of the summer.
It is a beautiful movie. And if I had to live in Antartica for over a year, I’d appreciate an Oscar too!
her husband looks dried up and small next to her.
…presenting a nominated song.
Interesting how a lot of promotion can propel you into being an actress.
I thought it was banned from all Oscar shows forever!
But the burning car was nice.
was a nice touch…
they’re showing the clips of the best movies when they go into the major commercial breaks (did Munich earlier, and I missed Good Night and Good Luck when I went to the shower) — no intros or anything. Might be a bit disconcerting for Mr. and Mrs. Middle America who may not be really familiar with any of this year’s movies…
another black gown? This is getting tiresome.
Where are the pink pantsuits? If only Hillary were there…
yeah, let hillary introduce someone…
a pink pantsuit would really enliven things right about now.

he doesn’t have the pecs to pull it off.
Reminds me that the spouse went to see Speed because it had a bus in it… lol
She looks like she needs a nap.
I thought she looked like she came from a hasty makeout session. Her hair looked positively mussed!
She looked that way on the red carpet too…
a convertible rather than a stretch limo.
Don’t tell me that he’s getting old, too???
Oh my – the TV camera adds 10 pounds to what you see on film. I thought he looked great – not fat.
i wish Good Night and Good Luck would win something – I just loved that film. It was perfect. A perfect, tight, taut, impassioned and important little gem. I hope people go see it anyway, just for having been nominated.
of the nominated movies I actually saw — which is better than most years.
Hope Jon gets another shot — he’s got a subtle humor that deserves another hearing…
of a Geisha is doing well in the minor awards — part of it was filmed at Hakone Gardens in Saratoga, not too far from here (and on my list of places to do some photography in the spring).
this one to controversial/confrontational movies. I think there’ve been more tributes than awards.
Longest Oscars were 4:18 back in 2002 — anyone want to lay a wager on the over/under?

can someone hook this dude off the stage?
Yeah, I’m waiting to hear “It’s hard out here for a pimp.” Get on with it already!
okay. blue. I’ll take it.
Aqua gown!
Salma Hayek in blue…
it’s aquamarine.
Who cares she’s yesterday news,..Jessica Alba.ooh mommy.
finally gets an award — best original score.
I was disappointed that “Chronicles of Narnia” didn’t get a nomination — it’s an awesome score IMNSHO…
Is Lauren Bacall suffering from Parkinson’s disease? She demonstrated all the classical symptoms
see mine a few posts back. I was shocked.
But she is 82 years old. And she’s outlived Bogart by almost fifty years.
“I can’t wait till later when we have Oscar’s salute to montages.”
Thank you Jon — I f-ing love you…
Yep, Meryl Streep knows how to dress.
Nice to see Lily Tomlin.
Is this from Crash?
I think it’s from Hustle and Flow.
Have mercy.
is going to have a field-ass day tomorrow…
Anyone know who the female singer was?
about George that he can’t back up later on. George will have him picking his teeth off the floor…
No, I don’t know who the sista vocalist was.
I’ve heard some good stuff about this flick.
I was waiting for the Palestinian film to get the nod, just to see if Joe Lieberman’s head exploded…
The Mossad doesn’t act thattaway, I guess.
Yeah.
And I noticed it was announced as from the “Palestinian Territories” too, to placate the anti-palestine crowd.
NPR had a nice piece on that. Evidently even the producers weren’t sure what country name to submit under, so they looked at the Academy rules, which says to use the name as recognized by the UN — which would be Palestine. That caused some political backlash, and well, it wasn’t unexpected that they’d cave and use “Palestinian Territories” on air.
Whenever someone gets all defensive over words or names, I wonder what’s really going on. Guess I’ll have to try to rent this movie now.
as pretty much expected…
The more he’s around, the less I like him.
She was beaming like a searchlight that she was going to get it.
and Sally Field.
“Hoffman and Huffman” would’ve made great headlines… 🙂
And now I want to see Transamerica…
She had one of the better acceptance speeches.
Even after Tom Hanks did a mock-promo on the WRONG way to give an acceptance speech, most of them tonight have been a litany of insider names almost no one knows or cares about.
No surprise there…probably means it’ll take Best Director and Picture.
Now hopefully Clooney gets his bookends by winning Original Screenplay…
Okay, so Clooney got his crumb…
I’ve got 5 more minutes to hope this was Crash’s crumb, and best picture goes elsewhere…
— pretty much a given that Brokeback will take best picture; it’s very rare that best director and best picture go to different films (can’t remember when the last time it happened was)…
Yeah, so much for Good Night…
Sorry to disappoint you, but looks like Crash is the Hollywood darling…
Well, it was a good 5 minutes…
Nothing personal against Crash.
Whippersnappers. Hoagie Carmichael. Now there was a musician. Hmm, where did I put my walker and my maalox? Nurse!
Walker? Bah! I bet you got one-a them newfangled ones with wheels. Wheels! In my day you had to balance while lifting 20lbs of steel solid adjustable frame walker and try to set it down a foot aheada ya without toppling over.
Oh yeah! Well I’ve got wooden dentures. I don’t brush them, just use a little sandpaper.
Ha!
Just don’t varnish em… goes to your brain. That’s what happened to all those Florida voters.

Have you seen it?
Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
I haven’t, but I’d hoped for Good Night (stand up to fearmongering) or Brokeback (stand up to anti-gay hate) would win.
as Monster’s Ball. It was even distributed by Lion’s Gate. Some critics have panned it for trying to follow something of the same line…white guys redeem themselves through people of color.
No, I haven’t seen it.
I thought Brokeback was going to get it for sure. Maybe all this push just made it peak early and then Crash crept in for the kill.
That was the speculation I read. The other scenario is an extension — Brokeback too controversial or peaks too soon, Crash comes in the for kill but divides the votes, and Good Night slips in for the win.
Ah well, even the critics I’ve heard/read have given it credit for re-opening the race discussion, if sometimes butchering the stereotypes or something (their thoughts, my recollection).
I’m surprised. I loved Crash, but I’m still surprised.
I just saw Crash Saturday night. It is one of the best films I have seen in a long time. It is masterfully directed and written. I found it deeply disturbing and thought provoking. It wasn’t just about racism on all sides of the spectrum but about the inherent good and bad in all human beings. I felt deeply moved by this movie. I felt it is one that all human beings should be required to view. Bravo!
i think my dad had a thing for lauren bacall
what straight man wouldn’t? check out the big sleep or any bogie/bacall flick…lauren was a stone cold fox when she was 24, and if my hoo-ha could go back in time, that’s where it would go…
(also good fun: young bette davis…seriously!)
