Here’s the detailed scoop, NDD: alongside my driveway, which skirts the hillside, there’s a washout with a culvert drain just below. The plant roots exposed to the air at the washout become incased in ice as winter moves along; the ice has been melting this week, ergo the loopy shapes.
(Yes, I’m back — just briefly. Hate to leave things hangin’.)
The ‘yeehaw’ clue was probably more meaningful to folks who know something about my lifestyle: I live in the chilly NE mountains, in a leaky metal box & my plumbing is constantly clogging with ice. Ergo, warming weather is a source of deep happiness for yours truly.
Not quite — the idea was that if I’m happy, it must be warming up. Puzzle solved! π
(And yes, agreed, I’m quite officially a bit ‘off’. Used to get federal support for it, in fact — until it was decided that I could just as well live on love.)
You’re definitely welcome for the flowers, Izzy. The daffodils are the first cultivated flowers that bloom here, telling us the winter’s definitely over.
Hey now, don’t tell me that’s coming this way! We had our first sitting-out-on-my-friend’s-deck day here, sunny, 40F, and no wind… a perfect day for this time of year.
Just here to echo DADA and say hello… with the cold rain we’ve had the past few days, well all look ahead to the spring. And the bulbs starting to come up almost make me optimistic. Boy howdies to all I’ve missed the past few days, as I’ve been sick and overworked at work, but can’t we all say that? Cheers, all!
she was eating chocolate with peanuts tonight… hah!! And that after her award-winning meatloaf…. wow, what a cook!!
turns out about half four this afternoon I was sitting contentedly on a wall reading the New York Times and drinking kefir and eating Reeses peanut butter cups… something I haven’t had for almost fifteen years….
now I’m smoking MENTHOL Camel filters… wow… what a trip!
Geocities is not allowed in China… and so most of Australia and New Zealand is blocked from the same…. this I was told by a young man who wanted to submit news stories from OZ…. so anyways, the old Camel Menthol pack was appearing and disappearing because…. well it came from mainland China…. and that’s not kosher.
Gee whiz, whatever happened to devotion??? These kids would do ANYTHING to make each other happy !! Gimme some of that… and call Woody Allen… see if the Orgasmatron is still working.
Here, here to that, Suskind! I’ll take a Hendricks dry, dirty martini with blue cheese stuff olives. But not right now… can I have a raincheck? btw, great diary, not Ron. π
just happened, I was sound asleep and the ringing in my ears shook me out of bed. π Not really, I’m just a nightowl who happened to check out my favorite haunts. Hi dada!
I had a fire lit in me after reading the outpouring of stories in the various diaries and thought I would try to spread that flame abit. Glad to have you back in the States to have you alongside on the frontlines amigo.
If you check out the Harpers Town Hall Forum on Impeachment (C-Span 2) … you will find that John Conyers, Elizabeth Holtzmann, and Lewis Lapham are all saying the same… Bob Fertik of ImpeachPAC.org and David Swanson of AfterDowningStreet.org are saying the same…. you nailed it !!!!
Greetings from Juba where it is close to noon. Back to Khartoum this evening and to NY on Sunday. Have missed out on most of the action here the last week or so Hope you’re all behaving. Just read NDD’s top rec entry. Yes, I think we are all really trying our best within whatever limitations we have.
Took Terry’s/BostonJoe’s novel with me on this trip, not quite finished with it yet – damned work keeps interfering – halfway now and really like it.
Hey there,
A car is supposed to pick me up at 12 (i 10 minutes), so I may log off any time.
I am having a hard time putting it down, was reading till almost 2 last night with a flashlight. Staying in a tentet camp and the generator shuts down at 1 am. Pitch dark.
Hope there aren’t too many typos, sticky and dusty keyboard.
Be well, my friend.
to you “Be well”, from the glimpse you’ve given us in the past, your work is important and it’s cool that you stop in and let us know you’re doing ok on your adventures. Talk to you when you get back. Paz, Manny
Okay, Wilderness Wench, you’ve kept us in suspense long enough. What was the picture?
I’ll be back in a bit.
Yeah…what was the picture?
Uh…what picture are we talking about?
photo is here
Oh that picture.
Well it’s obviously ice melting off of exposed culvert clinging roots. What’s the big mystery? ;o)
Yeah, what ever was I thinking??? It was so perfectly obvious all the time. hahaha
lol
Check the last diary, dear. And no, Howard Dean was not involved π
Diary = cafe’
Diary, dairy, coffee, cafe’ — it’s obviously time for the wench to hit the hay. Softly, I hope.
yeah, let’s see that again in here and confuse the late crowd too! I have no clue as to what anything was there other than the ice part.
Oh — sorry! I thought it was basically obvious — ice melting on organic matter (exposed plant roots, actually).
For all who played:
May the coming spring be bright & warm for us all!
Well, I’ve been through lots of melting ice scenes and never seen anything like that.
Here’s the detailed scoop, NDD: alongside my driveway, which skirts the hillside, there’s a washout with a culvert drain just below. The plant roots exposed to the air at the washout become incased in ice as winter moves along; the ice has been melting this week, ergo the loopy shapes.
You write science fiction on the side, don’t cha.
Beware of needle’s in the hay.
Be well
Peace
You know it, dear. I’ve had enough of needles, thanks!
As for writing, I seem to tend more toward scatalogical poetry π
And so, to the blankets. It ain’t spring yet!
See y’all soon.
What? No Howard Dean? No boots? What did the “yeehaw” clue mean?
Thanks for the beautiful flowers!
that’s what the homeowner said when the frozen culvert opened up and drained all the water out of his basement.
Um, okay, just so I have this straight for future reference — you love warm weather so pictures of ice are sources of jubilation. Got it!
lol

‘Night, all — or, good morning!
Sweet dreams!
You’re definitely welcome for the flowers, Izzy. The daffodils are the first cultivated flowers that bloom here, telling us the winter’s definitely over.
Uh-oh — midnight. I’m about to turn into a pumpki
Brrr, it’s snowing here. Younger daughter is hoping for a snow day, but I think she’s out of luck there.
We’re having the weirdest weather here in the northwest. Really cold and windy today after it seemed like spring last week.
Hey now, don’t tell me that’s coming this way! We had our first sitting-out-on-my-friend’s-deck day here, sunny, 40F, and no wind… a perfect day for this time of year.
I don’t know where our weather goes! I think it gets blocked between here and there by the Cascade mountains?
Geez. Robbie, a cup of strong coffee in a goofy cup please. Two sugars, and don’t tell the sister. (Who seems to think I’m heart attack material)
Thank you, devoted machine-servant, old pal !!
Well, well. Showing up late, again, hat in hand and…
Wuzup?
Peace
where’s the infidel pig?? where’s the bird? where’s the dame?
Where’s the Love Object, and why why why am I beyond the reach of the L.O.’s communication network?
And where’s Viktor Frankl when you need him?
I’m so late for this thing I must be early for something else.
iPig’s lurkin’
and the Dame’s waitin’
Peace

Hah! I’m still here!
So, Robbie, we meet again…
Oh, and Robbie? Belay that order. No sugar for you, Suskind. Sisters always know best. π

Reese’s are the best. Nutter Butters, too. When did Camel start making menthols?!?
It looks like 1913 !!

yes, we meet again…. you and I must co-host a hosted cafe…. where people actually order a drink and get served !!!!
Here, here to that, Suskind! I’ll take a Hendricks dry, dirty martini with blue cheese stuff olives. But not right now… can I have a raincheck? btw, great diary, not Ron. π
Have I been writing again?… I swore off that shit.
Yes! It could be Robots in TORINO!
Gotta call it people…remember

achangin’, we just have to figure out the best way to seize the moment and help to blow them out of power.
With that, I’m off to bed, have a great night friend, I’ll see you on the flipside of the sunrise.
Paz
Wow, some of you guys are still up.

I was gonna jump into Carnacki’s diary and see how your trip was going, but since you’re here π
I promised BJoe that I would get his book months ago and still haven’t done it, damn I need to get with the program. I’ve heard great things.
