How was your day?
Incomplete. I still have over three hours left at work.
Sucks to be a left-coaster at times like these. π
I’ll come up and help you and that would mean you would only have an hour and a half of work to do. π Then we could go out have a cup of chowdaaaaaa .. with lots of pepper in it.
One more for both kids to be home and the REAL works begin for me.
Again Happy Birthday Yesterday!!!! I think we should have a national and international observance of your special day that lasts the entire week.
Chowdaaa? Why that sounds heavenly!
I stumbled into how to make it. I couldn’t make it the same way as my mother-in-law does… no NEVER so I took her recipe and started to fahhhkk with it.
I added pale ale and cilantro to it and my husband likes mine more than hers now. We went back to Boston and he said he did indeed like mine bettah. π
Bettah chowdaa. I could get into that. A’yup.
Don’t let him tell his mom he likes yours better. That’s a no-no.
Well she did call me a radical so I found a reason to let her know that he liked my chowder better. Somehow or another it managed to come up in conversation you know… π
Obviously if she called you a radical you had no other choice but to let her have it!
I wish that were the case. Unfortunately I have some processes that I have to supervise kicking off at 5:30.
That chowdahhhhh sounds good, though. On Fridays the cafeteria here has clam chowder. A little bit of heaven. Makes me feel like bustin’ out the banjo and launching into Ivar Haglund’s theme song, “Acres of Clams.” (If you’re at all familiar with folk songs or Irish music, the tune is an old Irish dance song called “Rezin the Beau” or “Rosin the Bow”)
is the Salmon House still out there at the northeast corner of Lake Union? Spouse and I hope to hit that for at least one meal… π
(Got our hotel booked — staying both before and after cruise at the Residence Inn-Lake Union; good transit access and free breakfast every morning, and full kitchen so we can get in some healthy stuff to eat…)
Ha! The perfect ending.
In case you’re going, huh? That comment was supposed to go under your Descarte joke.
I haven’t been there in years but last I heard it still was. Hang on . . .
<shuffle shuffle rummage rummage>
OK, I checked the Ivars web site (ivars.net) and they say it’s closed for remodeling but should be open by the end of next week (specifically, March 30).
Thanks for hosting today SN! And great beer pic taboot. I just love beer and sarcasm … maybe I should start a new diet?
A pretty mundane, though busy and boring as well day here in my neck of the woods. We supposedly have a snowstorm on the way –yes, it is the first day of spring, gotta be contrarian, don’t we Mother Nature?– But so far, it’s taking its sweet time getting here.
What I wouldn’t give to be a left-coaster today! We are sooo done with winter here.
We’ve had no winter to speak of here in NC, but spring came in today with a chilly rain when last week it was in the 80’s! Go figure.
Hi SN. Is it Happy Hour already?
I was just mentally asking where the heck you were!
I told you we think alike. I was just mentally thinking, where AM I? Or maybe just – “AM I?” Very existential of me.
Or, how about I AM, but Are You?
But … Who are YOU?
(Where’s growthrate?)
Knowing myself, I could take that simple phrase and end up with “MIA”… which would fit my brain cycle today very nicely. π
Mary caught me in a OOPS what and who was I talking to and about. ACK!
I have no idea.
ADD is fun, DJ…just sit back and enjoy the ride.
My daughter (who has some ADD) will occasionally get after us. “That’s not funny!” she’ll say when we point out that she’s not paying attention. “It’s very unkind to make fun of people with — oh look, a chicken!”
This is the daughter who claims not to be funny. “But when I went to college, people just thought I was hilarious, and all I did was talk the way I do at home!”
Gee, can’t imagine why they’d think that.
I have two kids with ADD. You gotta laugh sometimes at how scattered their attention is! It makes life a barrel of fun in certain situations.
I know you are, but what am I?
“Cogito, ergo sum” is the proper expression, I believe.
Is that Latin for give me lots of beer off of dese cartes?
Liberal elite snort!!
This has become an insane and hilarious threadlet!
Yes, that’s what comes from reading the ongoing discussion between AG and BooMan right before I came to Happy Hour.
And I have to say, for the first time I agreed with AG. Charlie Parker completely outranks the Grateful Dead in my book. π
Especially during his time with the ‘Yardbirds”
The yardbirds?
Do I remember that?
Why no (she answers herself).
Grin. There were a couple of times in that thread when, had I beer in my mouth, I would have spewed and wasted perfectly good beer.
I think this
would be a perfect beer for BooMan tonight. Where is he?
Heh. I thought that too.
AG doesn’t know Camus from the bird flu, and while Charlie Parker is the man…AG might have noted that Garcia didn’t write the Grateful Dead’s lyrics, Robert Hunter did…
but it was SO much fun watching you roll the rock of philosophy up, up, up the hill only to have AG hurl it to the bottom again.
Maybe I missed it, but I didn’t really notice the JOY part?
This is why I stick with Hercules. He SOLVED the problem of his many headed hydra. And no one has ever decided to philosophize over it.
It’s only…
from a very old Foghat alb
Beer would have gone perfectly with reading that…in between the comments, of course. I’d hate to short out a perfectly good keyboard.
The things I miss when I’m at class.
It’s the only latin I remember…but I can order beer in three languages.
Just for that I’m sending some winter your way…we’ve got some to spare up here and it’s movin’ east.
Too late, dada, it’s already here. Send the beer, instead, por favor, s’il vous plait, and please. π
and I suppose you’re going to send it straight on to me aren’t you? You are SO nice.
The weather AND the empty beer bottles.
Look in the bathroom…the delivery man was afraid to go down to the basement.
Apparently, he’d recently re-located from St. Louis.
LOL, dada! Kinda takes the fun out of throwing up, though.
afraid? He couldn’t WAIT to go to the basement. π
Even though I am absolutely sure I’ve seen them somewhere, Google has been completely unable to help me locate the words to “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall.”
In Latin.
BTW did you get a good look at the birthday cake that Olivia brought to the party yesterday?
of when Descartes stepped into a bar for a drink.
When the bartender asked if he wanted another, he said, “I think not…”…and vanished…
I have no idea my weight. I don’t want to know either. Just eating healthy, non-toxic food and in moderation. Actually I’m eating less meat – even though it’s co-op, organic stuff. I feel better without meat I’m noticing.
Also… I don’t give up the things I love. Like coffee drinks. There’s no denying myself I just try to look harder at why I’m craving something and try to change the reason that is causing me to crave it. I’ve noticed that when I eat better, my body simpy can’t accept the crap food.
I’ve found tastier thingss to tantalize my tastebuds and such that are far worth waiting for than instant gratification.
Then… I walk. ALOT. I think too – that for a long time I was trapped in depression and feeling so secluded and now that I’m FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE π My mind is also free and even though I’m not excerising much – the weight is coming off because I’m not longer chained in a redneck county. My mind and heart are running wild : )
Plus… protesting and helping out at marchs.. is a long day of walking and moving and raising your arms and voice. It’s a full-body and spirit work out π
That is so cool, DJ! I’m amazed at how quickly you’ve found a Janet-shaped spot that needed to be filled in your new town. Keep taking care of yourself so you can take care of the world.
Is this a leftover conversation from the last cafe? Or did you just decide to pop in with your diet tips?
Mary Ha! You know… I’m not sure now. I coulda sworn I was answer something Second had mentioned…
It’s official: I’ve lost what was left of my mind! π
Well, you have an excuse considering how busy you’ve been. Sometimes I forget who I’m talking to and I have no excuse π
I’ve been on and off the phone to Wyden’s office where 19 people are demanding to be heard about his non-stance on the war. At 5 it appears they and a codepink sister will be arrested.
Bush has people arrested he doesn’t want to face, too.
BTW, if I happen to troll rate someone, or disappear completely, it’s because the cat who will not be named is walking all over my keyboard.
Making a fresh cup of french roast here in my office…
Staring at reports that are making me slightly crazy…
Thinking about what to pack for San Diego now that Diane and Shirl are talking ‘hair, make-up, and wardrobe’…aaaaccckk! Okay fashion police help needed – high heeled shoes (no spikes!) with jeans or high heeled sandals or flats or what is appropriate in San Diego??? We are pretty dressy for weekends in SF / Napa Valley / etc….
I will have to defer to one of the resident fashionistas as my version of dressy involves pants with an actual waistband and socks with my shoes.
faded jeans and fleece tops…or sleeveless or long sleeve rashguards and sandals or sneakers depending on the time of year.
Work is ‘casual friday’ which is non-blue jeans…with sports coats…SF – everything from jeans above to dressy suits…I have no clue.
Shoes….aaaackkk…barefoot is how I really live at home!
for comfort not glamour — pants and shirts…and my purple workout set with a t-shirt or two for morning walks (got to keep moving more!)…the pants are soft stretchy type, perfect for crawling under tables to duck the everpresent cameras… π
Pretty beer picture. I imagine the photographer having to bat hands away. “Stop that! You can’t have any until I take this picture!”
I’d like the one second from the right, please.
That’s funny, I was just thinking the same thing. The way the light shines through it — somebody spent a lot of time on that picture.
That is a safe choice; not too dark, not too light.
Are you calling me a moderate!? Well, we’ll see about that. . .I changed my mind, barkeep! Make mine Brewer’s Yeast!
Barry Welsh needs help with an online poll so he can win $5000 towards his campaign from Russ Feingold’s PAC.
(I’ll take the Hefeweisen on the right)
mmmmm
Not to malign Russ or anything but an online poll seems a stupid way to choose who to give money to.
Personally, I’m waiting for his WIFE to come ask me to vote.
You are shamelessly hilarious tonight.
Am I? The results of a long Monday I suppose.
the results of the weekend, ya know!
money is specifically designed to be given to the “netroots” favorite among the 10 candidates π
(sigh)
you always make me feel guilty
I’ll go look at the poll
it must be a Catholic thing π
funny, I’ve never PICTURED you in a habit.
OK, I went, I read the bios, I voted. And that’s all I’m gonna say.
after the Left Coast Meetup, no one else will have pictured it either π
Voted….I hope he gets the money!
Got some thunderbumpers in the vicinity…
Youe comments today are being given “4”s courtesy of my newest incarnation of RoboRater™ — just one more stop on the way to seeing if I can create one someone who isn’t a mad scientist computer genius like myself can use.
I just thought you should know.
That explains it. I thought they felt a little … mechanical.
After 4-ing people all day it’s bound to feel mechanical.
Probably, but I’ve forgotten. Was it the beer cake?
no no no
You have to go to the linkin her post
That got me a second time. How gullible is that? I forgot I already clicked on the link yesterday.
obviously you’re still hungry for “cake”
After the last two “cakes” I may have totally lost my taste for it.
And no, I completely missed it yesterday. I was staring at that little postage stamp in her post going “What the heck is this?”
She got me right in the eyeballs with that pink . . . whatever it was on Saturday, so unless I want to quit playing “Can you top this?” I need to find something for her now.
Heh heh heh.
so out of character for our Olivia wasn’t it?
beauty is in the eye of the beholder…
how beer is food! especially stout…
anyhoo, i have two important things to share. one is that Louisiana voters displaced by katrina need to be found:
http://actionalert.blogspot.com/2006/03/get-out-louisiana-vote.html
the other is in my sig.
: p
where’s Family Man, he didn’t make happy hour?
Great minds. I was just wondering if he had one of his infamous migraines today. Either that or he’s mad at me for lecturing him on the evils of smoking.
Or maybe your lecturing gave him a migraine.
I was wondering about the migraine thing too. Not like him to miss Happy Hour. George loves it.
Now I feel guilty. I know that in my case incessant nagging can indeed induce a migraine.
Aren’t you watching 24? I missed it last week and now I can’t follow it anymore.
OMG you watch 24. I’ve been looking for someone for a month now.
( No, I haven’t watched this season.)
It’s either that or Supernanny, and since my children are perfect I really don’t need to watch that.
Why have you been looking for someone who watches 24? To humiliate them for their bad taste?
No, to share a little laugh I have with myself whenever certain diaries are posted. What was the name of President Palmer’s evil wife and do you get what I’m thinking of?
I guess not. I don’t remember the name of his wife, and I really didn’t watch the first couple of seasons. I watched all last year and this, but I can’t remember his wife. So, what’s the joke?
That’s nearly incomprehensible as a reply. I need more medicine or something.
Since I’m comparing a real person with Sherry Palmer I don’t really want to say it.
I must have asked Andi at least 4 times if she watches 24, I guess because she’s always around when those diaries go up. She thinks I’m nuts.
And there isn’t one now. But the link will give you a hint.
I’m pretty sure I know who you mean, but not why. Does that make sense? π
Yes it does. We’ll just wait for next time. π
I do. Snicker.
At last!
In my mind they look alike. And act alike.
in D.C. on Democracy Now and we had our final fight. We know where we go from here with almost nobody in the Senate willing to end Iraq. If we aren’t going to be getting out of Iraq anytime soon….if they have to let their insanity die a miserable miserable death like they did in Vietnam where they had to exhaust every excuse to stay before they finally left running like hell….my husband won’t be able to make it to the end of his career without being handed orders to return to Iraq. Says he will be arrested, says he refuses to run…..that they will never do that to him, denies he is a conscientious objector in any form but he will not fight any illegal wars ever again. I’m having a hard time right now with everything. I can’t recall ever feeling so betrayed…..betrayed by much of the Democratic Party. Betrayed by my husband because he has to make such a huge line in the sand if things come to that.
My thoughts are with you and your family tonight. I can’t imagine what you’re going through, living this day to day. The rest of us who only watch with horror from afar can never really understand.
minutes or twenty minutes, I’ve now lost track, reflecting on this, your present and then reflecting on my own past, which I believe you have some familiarity with from a post I made a while back.
I do hold out some remaining hope that this worst case scenario you have presented for you and your husband may not come to pass.
I have no doubt there are many here who would be willing to come up with more assistance than just {{{MT}}}s.
You should feel perfectly comfortable in using my email in the sig line at any time and for any reason. What may be lacking in my “inventory” someone else I know may have…
I share your heavy heart tonight.
I spent much of yesterday reading Robert A.F. Thurman’s new book Anger. I get halfway through his very profound discussion and come to the global buildup and militarization that has gripped the entire world for the past 100 years and how the hate and rage begets hate and rage. All I can see is that human beings are still just another species of animal on planet earth and nothing more than that. We have been given a gift of conscience, conscious, awareness, deductive reasoning…….and opt to throw it all aside and find a bad guy to kill and anybody else who we deem as out of hand in the whole situation that WE CREATED!
