And fell at her feet in a beautiful mess
The smoke and the whiskey came home in her curls
And they crept through the dreams of the barroom girls
Well she tosses and turns because the sun is unkind
And the heat of the day is coming in through the blinds
But leave all the blue skies for the rest of the world
Because the neon lights shine for the barroom girls
Oh the barroom girls go by your side
Like the ponies who pass on a carousel ride
And all of the colors go ’round in a swirl
When you dance in the arms of the barroom girls
Now she rolls to her feet when she can’t sleep no more
And looks at her clothes lying out on the floor
Last night’s spangles and yesterday’s pearls
Are the bright morning stars of the barroom girls

Kindly recommend this cafe and
unrecommend the previous one.
Wait a minute, I need to go change out of this…
Are you going to start telling Ole and Lina jokes now? No wonder everybody left…
You put a lot of work into that. Although I’d rather have a poem about the bar room boys 🙂
The hardest part was going back through a million cafes to find the art…who knew how many of those we go through in 3 days?
Poems about barroom boys…hmm…let me think.
all I can think of is the Moon of Alabama song (not the doors version) show me the way to the next pretty boy. Oh, don’t ask why…
I thought immediately of Sinatra’s ‘One For My Baby’ — but that’s first-person, isn’t it.
‘Course, there’s so much country that’s similar .. as well as blues stuff.
That’s why I didn’t feel like opening another late night one since I’ve done the last two nights. They all look the same because I don’t want to back more than a couple of pages.
we need an index …
It makes sense to me, anyway…
Cabingirl, I’m on a road trip to visit the Godfather. I’m in Woodstock…….Woodstock GA that is! Godfather wants to know what the name of the place is that we are looking at for the meetup in the Catskills and I have forgotten. Please advise, please please purty please.
First, there is no such thing as totally off topic in the cafe…
Second, how’s that young man of wrapper fame feeling by now?
Third, who is the Godfather?
and finally, we were talking about the Full Moon…which is of course, near Woodstock, NY.
That would be the Full Moon Resort, in Big Indian. Unless it’s changed since I last checked ..
that’s hilarious, and almost as funny as the Christmas Carols from the whole family.
Another classic!
We do! I keep all my photo’s html in a text file, but I don’t think anyone else would want them since I was accused by DJ of being the David Lynch of the cafe…
Plenty of tunes come to mind about barroom boys — poetry not so much (unless we’re talking about someone like Ginsberg).
(with minor editing)
Best I could do on short notice.
Peace
That’s pretty good!
Hi NDD
We were waiting for you to set the tone for the evening… 🙂
I’m working on that down at the bottom somewhere, but all I’ve got so far is middle C.
Keep it in a classic Blues I, IV, V – 12 bar form and everyone should be able to follow along…
Peace
but I tink I vill yield the floor to superior knowledge…
How bout this’un…eh
New York Girls AKA: Can’t you dance the Polka?
Peace
LOL
that’s great!
I particularly like the end:
Great tune, great lyrics… you’re certainly a multifacetted fellow, dada!!
“The smoke and the whisky came home in her curls”….
How evocative….?
I like the Van Goghish art too…
Now what is the proper pronunciation of Van Gogh?
If my flagging memory serves…ala art history courses…it’s Van Gough…like the Irish Lough, Boys of the.
Peace
someone (I don’t remember who) once said the impressionist and post impressionist paintings all look like they are painted on toilet paper. And that’s all I can ever think of when I look at them now.
Now I’m going to have to go pull out the cd that song came from…
in Manhattan, and when Woody protested, she insisted it was the correct pronunciation, because “I’m from Philadelphia!” Not that I put much stock in that utterance, but it is out there in the popular imagination. Can’t pretend to be an expert, but the French do say “Van Gougue” making those g’s really hard, so to speak. Who cares? It’s the art that matters, and it was damned good.
(lurking)
shhhhh
nobody talk about katiebird, she’s lurking
But she’s RIGHT THERE! oops. sorry…
Hi Izzy
Hi maryb, how ya doin’?
katieb! Hi! What have you been up to tonight?
Well, it was so lonely I went off see what’s up with the Booman’s open thread, watched Lou Dobbs going totally bonkers, millionaire mannequin foaming at the mouth…
ahhh, but here in the FBC late night lounge… the refuge from the insanity…
I think it’s my all time favorite, both the scene and the poem. Did ya say who did the scene upthread and I missed it?
Second Nature will have to tell us, since I borrowed it from her… 🙂
dossen he no dat ex-batler noskygen farmers cont be giffin’ out da 4s and be yakkin’ at d same time.
Poor Omir, he’s gone and done it now. He mentions the thing and now if it doesn’t get here quick, the cafe crowd’s gonna turn on him with pitchforks.
vant da results… or else… no more lefse for OMIR… no more lutefisk either… and no more aquavit… vut he vill eat for dinner I half no idea!!!
The Starry Night Painting is weirding me out. Every time I go up top and look at it I see more detail and more depth to it, like at first the colors and shapes were only on the surface and then the lights on the water got brighter each time I looked, and then sailboats appeared, and then more detail on the buildings in the distance appeared, I’m almost scared to look at it again for fear something might jump right out of the screen like when you wear those 3D glasses at the movies, and the hatchet swings out over your head and everyone ducks.
What art museum would that be located in, I want to go see it in person.
I think it’s in the Musee d’orsay in Paris. Hold on a sec and I’ll look
look here
Now I’ve got a great excuse to go to Paris! I think my brother has been there, I’ll have to ask him if he’s seen that one.
I like that museum even though I’m not a big fan of impressionism / post-impressionism. It’s an old train station along the river that was converted into a museum. It’s worth going just to see the building. Lots of wide open spaces.
And famous art of course.
here
You want to buy a print?
yeah, thinking about it, got any advice?
no, I dont know anything about prints.
If I was to get one I’d just order the print and then frame it locally. The print price is not much of a gamble dollar wise, particularly relative to farming.

True, it’s the frame that’s expensive.
what you need is an artistically inclined lurker to drop in right about now and give you some advice 🙂
Yeah, or just wait till it comes around again on the guitar…
huh?
it’s a line out of an Arlo Guthrie tune…
and I still no nothing about 24…
I seldom know song lyrics. I don’t hear them for about the first 300 times I hear a song. I only hear melody.
Nobody knows we’re over here in the corner…
you like Woody Allen movies?
not really
Ever since Manhattan, I can’t stand Woody Allen in the flesh. And if he’s not in his movies there’s usually some whiny character that stands in for him.
Oh, well, back to the drawing… room
I don’t even remember Manhattan! My secondary memory doesn’t kick in until midnight.
Alice’s Usenet Flame sung to the tune of Alice’s Restaurant
For yer amusement.
Peace
I’ll have to print to hardcopy first though. The last few days my attention span for reading long texts on the CRT has been pretty limiited.
I should go spend some time editting my Part II, of the GS diary I’ve been working on. Told somebody maybe tues, but I won’t make that now, hopefully Wed, or TH
think I’ll cut my losses and call it, twas an early start today…later yawl.
Peace
Spot on as usual, aren’t you? Have you been to the Musee d’Orsay? I love the place … so much more expansive than the old Jeu de paume where you had to go to see such pieces… plus it has all my favorite late 19th century stuff in it … which, small confession, was my specialist’s area in literature and art in grad school. Thus the enthusiasm …
How you doin’ down there Mary? Spring is threatening to arrive up here this week, and temps in the 60’s soon! Bulbs are popping up all over…
Good night eveybody…zzz.
good night cg
See you tomorrow.
good night olivia

Hey NDD, I’m over here. I think I’m calling it a night. I have some things I need to do before I go to bed. See you tomorrow.
this cafe is starting to resemble the Walton’s
Peace
Isn’t it just? That occurred to me a week or so ago myself.
So, I’ll just say to my good friend Dada:
pleasant gurgling rutabagas and fried potholders! till next we meet.
Will see all you fine folks in the morning — told the spouse that he has to take me out for oatmeal tomorrow… 🙂
