I’m hoping to make it to the end of my favorite show, Gray’s Anatomy. I’m so sleepy lately.
About my bird: he’s a hand-raised peach-faced lovebird. He loves to do tricks and he’s a big baby unless I take him out of his cage everyday and let him groom my hair and ears. He loves to stick his head in my mouth and clean my teeth. No kidding. My older cat is used to him being around and I don’t have to worry too much about her chasing after him, but the new kitty is just too curious and rambunctious around him for now.
I love her too! Her character is so neat; how she abhors affection but she’s really just a softy. Meredith kind of bugs me. Tonight should be good because it’s about the old relationship between Meredith’s mother and the chief of staff whose name I can’t remember right now.
I just read about it when I got in this afternoon. Apparently an explosion went off in a Tim Horton’s coffee shop bathroom killing a man. (Tim Horton’s is the most popular and beloved Cdn coffee shop.)
The CTV news on tv said the man was not an employee. No other injuries reported.
Police have ruled out terrorism as the cause of an explosion at a Tim Hortons doughnut shop in a trendy downtown area of Toronto on Sunday, killing one man.
The victim was likely an arsonist or attempting suicide, Staff Sgt. Don Cole of Toronto police told reporters hours after the explosion.
“He’s not a strap-on al-Qaeda bomber guy,” Cole said. “It sounds to me like a guy who either wanted to do a torch job or commit suicide.”
Police said the man apparently carried a can of gasoline into a washroom stall about 1 p.m. local time at the doughtnut shop in the city’s Yorkville area, and set off a flash fire that killed him.
The victim was an unidentified male who was pronounced dead at the scene with severe burns to his body. Nobody else was injured. (…)
What a weird story. Wonder why he picked a donut shop? Although my small experience of Ontario has shown me that people take their donuts very very seriously.
I’m around…was out of town this weekend, still catching up on stuff around here.
Don’t know if I’ll stay up all night tonight, did that last night and I’m pretty wiped out now. That isn’t stopping me from sampling one of these tasty beers though!
I was up in Traverse City this weekend(about 3.5 hours north of Ann Arbor) for a fraternity reunion / formal / dance. It was fun. Shenanigans with a spark of tomfoolery and a pinch of debauchery ensued. (yes, open bar)
Other than that, my ultimate frisbee season is starting soon, which means I’ll likely be around the pond even less (especially on weekends).
Yep, White Sox. Chicago’s home opener is next Friday, and yep, it is against the redbirds. My Braves start the season on the road tomorrow against the Dodgers. I’m curious to see how the loss of Leo Mazzone affects the pitching staff (if at all).
When I think “Chicago” I think the Cubs too. That’s why I had to change gears and think about the White Sox having an opener.
I can’t imagine that life without Leo WOULDN’T affect Atlanta. Adversely. Although sometimes it doesn’t show up for a while. And .. maybe that’s wishful thinking on my part 😉
I was going to go to the one in Memphis but my firm decided to hold its partners retreat the weekend before and that kind of screwed up May for me. Sheesh. Like we don’t see enough of each other already; we have to go spend a weekend together, BONDING. <looks disgusted>
Since we know what a great host he is — he’d make us breakfas (I’d even eat grits!), and he’d drive us around, and he’d make sure we napped! Sounds perfect. 🙂
I’d even be polite and stay at a motel (or hotel, if such a thing exists in the south). That way Family Man could have his down time (and I could have mine!).
Just came in the door from San Jose Airport — my flight was originally due to leave San Diego at 8:25pm, back at 9:51, but when I got there about 1pm, the attendant at the front counter said, “Let’s see if we can get you on an earlier flight” and put me on standby. Didn’t get the 2:17 flight, but had no problem with the 3:59 departure. MUCH better than cooling my heels in San Diego airport for 7+ hours. 🙂 And VERY glad to be home, though I wish I could’ve brought the weather back with me — it’s raining and miserable back here in Silly Con Valley.
Time for a nap, then will start working on uploading all my photos from the trip — planning to set up a Photobucket slideshow I can link to from the Cafe… 🙂
Welcome home. Loved reading about your meet-up and seeing all your beautiful faces, and as maryb said above, can’t wait to read the diaries that are still to come!
a zoo diary later this week — San Diego Zoo is huge but gorgeous. We barely scratched the surface; I’ve already told the spouse that if we can swing it, I want to make a San Diego trip this fall during his last vacation week in the fall.
They have a bunch of walk-through aviaries; I took a ton of bird shots, as opposed to Harry Whittington who took a ton of birdshot… 😉
The wind and thunder are my favorite parts. But gosh we need rain here. They’re talking about maybe picking up a half-inch tomorrow but we’re almost 9 inches below normal since January.
I LOVE thunder and lightening. It must be a “brought up in the midwest” thing. That’s why I said I hoped we had a good afternoon thunderstorm. I was looking forward to it. That showed me!
I don’t mind wind usually, but this was some of the scariest wind I’ve ever been in.
I was in an outbreak of tornadoes on the Fourth of July, 1969 that had us all sleeping under the dining room table. They went on for hours. A dozen people were killed in our town and there were 100 year old oaks and elms down everywhere. The National Guard was there for a week afterward. I was pissed because it cancelled the big fireworks show.
I bet I open twice as many cafes on a saturday as you do on a thursday. Yesterday was a light day — and I opened 6. I’m entitled to be tired of it on Sunday.
Who’s ready to stay up all night?
That would be like witnessing a miracle. 🙂
Now I’ve stayed up untill 11:30 pm before.
I know how to party!
Be honest… 😉
OK, I was really up until about 12:30 am one time. Just ask Mary.
Ah, those were the days, weren’t they Family Man?
It IS true. But it was unusual.
See I told you. I’m just a party animal.
I’m hoping to make it to the end of my favorite show, Gray’s Anatomy. I’m so sleepy lately.

He’s a lot of fun to have and good company.
Although, the picking the teeth part was sort of weird. 🙂 Really, though — he sounds wonderful.
I love that show too SN — I just finished watching the complete season1 on dvd! I love Sandra Oh — she’s from Ottawa.
I love her too! Her character is so neat; how she abhors affection but she’s really just a softy. Meredith kind of bugs me. Tonight should be good because it’s about the old relationship between Meredith’s mother and the chief of staff whose name I can’t remember right now.
Woo hoo!
Family Man, we’ve lost Olivia.
So, I’m still here!
Thank goodness. I thought we had lost you too.
I’m sticking around to see how long you last tonight! 🙂
I just might surprise you. 😉
Wasn’t there some big scare in Toronto today? Somebody did something in a donut shop?
THat sounds like the prelude to a really bad joke. Tell me what they did to defile the donuts, it could be good aversion therapy for me.
link. They thought it was a suicide bomber but it was just a fire?
I just read about it when I got in this afternoon. Apparently an explosion went off in a Tim Horton’s coffee shop bathroom killing a man. (Tim Horton’s is the most popular and beloved Cdn coffee shop.)

Police have ruled out terrorism at this point.
From the CBC (link):
What a weird story. Wonder why he picked a donut shop? Although my small experience of Ontario has shown me that people take their donuts very very seriously.
I’m glad your bird is fun. 🙂
Ha! Like you would ever make it all night!
I need an SN comeback line.
Speaking of staying up all night, I haven’t seen ej around since last week.
I’m around…was out of town this weekend, still catching up on stuff around here.
Don’t know if I’ll stay up all night tonight, did that last night and I’m pretty wiped out now. That isn’t stopping me from sampling one of these tasty beers though!
(image borrowed and shrunk from My Life Is Beer)
ej it’s good to see ya. What cha been doing, other than drinking beer.
Good to see you too FM!
What have you been up to?
ej keep that thought. I’m going to run and open a new cafe.
Hi, I’m glad you surfaced. It wouldn’t be Sunday night without you 🙂
How could I stay away? 🙂
Should I assume that the storm system that hit you earlier is the same one delaying the opening night baseball game in Chicago right now?
I bet it is. You’re talking the White Sox opener? I think the cubs open at home next weekend? (against us).
Yep, White Sox. Chicago’s home opener is next Friday, and yep, it is against the redbirds. My Braves start the season on the road tomorrow against the Dodgers. I’m curious to see how the loss of Leo Mazzone affects the pitching staff (if at all).
“Chicago’s” meaning “the Cubs” of course. Duh.
Tell maryb that that some people know how to make it all night without having to stay up all night.
no helping him out.
Yeah what Andi said.
Where would I be without you Andi. 🙂
Oh, the pressure. I think Maryb is scoping out your stamina for a future southeastern meetup.
I’m holding out for a meetup in Chicago.
I was going to go to the one in Memphis but my firm decided to hold its partners retreat the weekend before and that kind of screwed up May for me. Sheesh. Like we don’t see enough of each other already; we have to go spend a weekend together, BONDING. <looks disgusted>
But there is nothing there to scope.
If I ever get to a meet up I’ll have to bring my sleeping mat.
Since we know what a great host he is — he’d make us breakfas (I’d even eat grits!), and he’d drive us around, and he’d make sure we napped! Sounds perfect. 🙂
As long as we get to see George in his Hugh Hefner getup.
Now those things I can do.
Even grits huh.
and shrimp. pleeeeeeeze?
We would throw a special shrimp boil. You would have to work a little, but peeling and talking and eating and pelling are fun.
Oh, I’m always happy to peel and talk!
When are you ready for us to come down there and stay at the farm? I could go for some shrimp and room service. How about you, maryb?
I’d even be polite and stay at a motel (or hotel, if such a thing exists in the south). That way Family Man could have his down time (and I could have mine!).
Unfortunately, due to hellish heat and humidity, we’re restricted to October through March.
I don’t know if ya’ll could handle the bitter cold here during winter.
You’re right. Why just this winter I had to wear a hoodie outside for nearly two weeks straight.
I know, I really hate it when I have to stop wearing short pants. All two days of it.
Well we do have a southern version of the Bates Motel in town. The charges never were proved against Orville.
<shiver> Maybe I’ll stay in Meridian and commute.
You could visit the Jimmie Rogers memorial. The folk singer that is. You’re talking about the city now.
What city are you near?
I’m in between Tuscaloosa, AL and Meridian, MS.
The bigger city is Birmingham which is about 2 hours away and for the really brave there’s Atlanta, about 4 hours away.
Wilbur served time but Orville got off scot free. I think it was Junior what done it.
At least that’s what Bubba told me.
Bubba dun tole you. Use correct grammar.
Oh sure, I runned frazzeled by the family and now you want me to wait on ya’ll.
Sure, come on down.
I’ve got to try grits once in my life. Who better to make ’em? 😉
Now doesn’t your area have some food that’s not eaten anywhere else?
I love to make grits for ya.
Poutine?
Beaver tails?
imho, neither is very good.
Have to think more on it.
I thought I was going to read about something wierd.
Those would be delicacies down here.
Just came in the door from San Jose Airport — my flight was originally due to leave San Diego at 8:25pm, back at 9:51, but when I got there about 1pm, the attendant at the front counter said, “Let’s see if we can get you on an earlier flight” and put me on standby. welcome back Cali. It looked you all had SUCH fun. I can’t wait for the diaries, stories and more pictures!
Glad you’re home safe and sound Cali.
I’m looking forward to the pictures.
Welcome home. Loved reading about your meet-up and seeing all your beautiful faces, and as maryb said above, can’t wait to read the diaries that are still to come!

I’m looking forward to your zoo photos. I’ve been wondering how your photog course went (or has it yet to start?).
Wind, rain, hail, thunder, lightning, flickering lights, tornado warning to the north and south of us but none in our county yet.
No telling how long I’ll be around.
that sounds about right, although we had tornado warnings too.
I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m jealous. We haven’t had a storm in 2 years. Be careful.
Don’t be jealous — there wasn’t very much rain at all. Just a lot of wind and hail. Some rain, but not that much.
And the sky was green for over an hour.
I was in an outbreak of tornadoes on the Fourth of July, 1969 that had us all sleeping under the dining room table. They went on for hours. A dozen people were killed in our town and there were 100 year old oaks and elms down everywhere. The National Guard was there for a week afterward. That’s actually a great childhood memory. Even being pissed over the fireworks.
Be careful.
And puppies too! Maybe you’d better get offline now.
Gray’s Anatomy!
Does that mean we don’t have your undivided attention?
I think she’s abandoned us. It’s just you, me and Olivia. We can get REALLY wild now!
Be still my heart.
I was already rolling around in the mud today! 😉
Is this going to turn into a mud wresting thing again.
I know Mary has experience, but Olivia?
… what’s your experience FM? 😉
Well just last week there was the….. Nah.
You’re a tease! 😉
What’s up dada. Come on over to the other cafe.
New episode? Yippee…
I’d say we’d lost CG but lurkers don’t count.
:::sniff:::
First everybody naps out on me and now this.
don’t go away, I’m looking at the Indiana weather map to check on Andi and Jim
Yea you’re just trying to get me to stay around so you won’t have to overwork yourself and open another cafe.
I bet I open twice as many cafes on a saturday as you do on a thursday. Yesterday was a light day — and I opened 6. I’m entitled to be tired of it on Sunday.
I don’t know if you or Andi noticed, but I offered to open this one before she said she was going to open it.
And quit bragging. 😛
Weather map still shows tornado warnings on either side of her. I’ll open the next one if you really don’t want to.
I was kidding you Mary. I’ll be more than happy to.
Give me a few minutes.
🙂
New café Here
