First comment! Woohoo!
What’s everyone doing? I’m busy doing cost accounting problems…boring…
I’m not doing accounting problems so I’m one up on you.
Slow night tonight.
Yup, everybody seems to have disappeared and it’s getting to be my bedtime.
I’m going to get some sleep tonight by following your lead and getting to bed early myself — sweet dreams!
I don’t think we’ve bumped into each other yet. ๐
about cost accounting is that was the quarter I started dating the guy who eventually became the spouse… ๐
Just hanging out, cruising the blogs (some good stuff at Orange Empire, believe it or not), and watching Sharks/Avalanche. (Tied at 1-1 after 2 periods, if you’re interested.) Will probably turn in early here too — got stuff we want to get done tomorrow…
Yikes, I’m so tired, just about to go night night! Barely keep my eyes open. ((Yawn.)) Shit it’s not even eight o’clock! Hope it’s not o.l.d. a.g.e. or something!
Hi mythmother, another excellent photo there. The colors are amazing.
Thanks Izzy! I got caught in the rain taking that one and now there’s a wierd brown dot inside the viewfinder that can’t be wiped off of the lens. Hope I didn’t ruin my camera!~
I hope your camera’s okay! I did that too. Inspired by all you photographers I ran out in a hail storm like a fool the other day. There was a cool light and a rainbow and everything. I downloaded the photos and they were just wet blotches on the lens.
8 PM?! I dream of going to sleep at that time on any day.
Thank God classes are over in two weeks here at school.
Honey, I’m home! Is anyone here?
Izzy! I just got home and wondered if you were on line yet.
Oh, maryb… the horror… the horror…
details (of your mental state not your computer problems which I wouldn’t understand anyway)
Oh, I thought it would be fine, just… y’know, hang out in the real world for awhile. Well let me tell you — the real world is no internet. There are looming deadlines too, like for taxes, that are difficult to avoid without a rather consuming distraction. And I didn’t have a book. And.. and… I dunno — did I tell you about the blank desktop? I HAD NO ICONS! <shudder>
but .. but .. but
TELEVISION?
Why else do you HAVE cable except for emergencies like this?
I thought of that, but somehow watching television in the daytime just seems so tawdry somehow.
Thank goodnesss things are back to normal. Now I’m online AND watching tv, just like things should be.
I’m glad all is right with the world again. Wednesday afternoon just wasn’t the same without an ice cream soda.
I missed it, too! Here, this might help.
thanks, but I’m actually pretty full right now. I’ll just slip it into the freezer for later.
Okay, or you could just have a little ice-cream. It melts and doesn’t take up any room.
interesting theory …
Sharks won 2-1 over the Avalanche! Tied for the last playoff spot (but have three more games to play than the team they’re tied with so technically have the 8th playoff spot). And spouse is home with dinner — pizza! And will have a beer to celebrate… ๐
Sorry, Andi, but here I go again, posting after your bedtime…!

For those of you maybe keeping track, I’ve posted this same plant the past few nights, because each day it has bloomed more, and seems to catch a nice late afternoon glow from the sun. Its bloom time is relatively limited, so I’m trying to capture the progression from day to day. We have several clumps of this, Glory of the Snow, and I’m sort of “diarying” how it develops in this, its 2nd year in the front garden.
Ah, the joys of digital photography, and the ability to share the wealth (well, at least the stuff worth looking at!) hehe.
Anybody else still conscious … or can I raid the bar and wreak havoc?
the insomnia attack from last night is catching up to me. Great pic, though! Perhaps I’ll feel that perky tomorrow.
I can’t believe you are still conscious.
american4liberty is looking for croaking frogs, I may have to oblige the request soon.
from last weekend must be catching up with you ๐
till you see SallyCat’s kayaking diary.
will there be underwater pictures?
I’m not sure, she did buy a waterproof disposable camera so you’ll get either underwater or neoprene shots or both!
Oh, we had one of these beside our old house in Iowa City! I had forgotten it – they are so beautiful. Thanks for the pictures.
Is there anybody out there..I can’t hear any frogs croaking.
ribbit, ribbit
Anyone else watch Daily Show or Colbert Report tonight? Both shows were awesome.
no cable/dish
That sucks. I only have basic network TV at home, so I try to watch as much as possible while at school.
You should go to Comedy Central’s website and check out some of tonight’s clips. They were downright hilarious.
I guess it would suck if it wasn’t my choice. It’s not like it’s not available.
Yeah, Psi, it was a good one, but rarely does Jon disappoint me … well sort of once, when he didn’t really take on O’Liely, but long since forgiven. Corddry’s piece was great fun, I thought, and Zinni was his usual, bluntly refreshing self. I’m still hoping Samantha Bee will hurry up and get back from maternity leave, because her short piece last week was not enough!
Only 2 politically oriented shows viewed in this household, Keith (oh so sacred) Olbermann and The Daily Show. I’m not counting South Park, so don’t snark me on that.
You should watch Colbert as well. It’s become quite a regular occurrence that he’s funnier than Jon on any given night.
but honestly, and no offense, he’s like squeaky chalk on a blackboard for me now. Loved his stuff at first, but the smarmy pseudo wingnut persona he’s cultivating now just rubs me the wrong way. Though I do often watch enough to see “The Word.” I appreciate his effort, but frankly, he pisses me off more than he makes me laugh. And that’s not necessarily a bad thing!
He was relatively nice to Keith Olbermann though, and that was the only reason I watched that night. (Well, and the one with Maureen Dowd.) Won’t deny his talent at all. Just that it doesn’t do much for me now.
Appears to have been an exhausting day for all around here, myself included. Something about this fresh spring air and things greening up that invigorates and intoxicates all of us I think. (To wit, snoring dogs downstairs.) And, in case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve kind of gone all OCD on the dailiy chronicling of the flower scene, LOL.
Gotta get going on those garden diaries soon, I guess. Maybe this year I can get all sortsa ‘systematic’ about it, even during the hectic planting season just beginning … but then, it does pay off eventually.
All you late night insomniac-type frogs, anyway. How are you all?
The Mariners won today for the second time in a row, so I’m happy. If we can get the bullpen straightened out we might just have a team.
Wonder if there is any team that does not feel that way.
Well, we’ve had teams in the past when we had an awesome bullpen and a gang of fielders that couldn’t bat their way out of a wet paper bag, so yeah, it happens.
At one time we had Jeff Nelson and Arthur Rhodes setting up for Kazu Sasaki. Now that was a bullpen. But then Jeff got old, Arthur left for free agency, and Kazu got homesick for Japan and has since retired. But boy, do I have baseball stories to bore my great-grandkids with, if I should live so long.
“See that guy down there in the dugout with the curly hair? That’s Edgar Martinez. Time was when he was so good that pitchers hated to face him. I remember game 5 of the 1995 Division Series . . . “
“Yeah Grampa, was that when you watched baseball on TV by candlelight because electricy hadn’t been invented yet?”
yeah in the past.
but ever since they expanded the leagues and broke them into three divisions, the likelihood of a strong bullpen has been steadily decreasing. Not enough young pitchers in the pipeline maybe?
Too much bull and not enough pen.
Or is it the other way round? I can’t remember this late.
Nice to see you again, Omir! Have some more butterfly friendly flowers…

Kept thinking about the butterfly magnet/containers only issue you have, and here’s one possibility… The purple verbena in this picture will grow just fine in a hanging basket or pot where it can crawl around, and will bloom for you all summer long. Butterflies love this stuff too… It verbena ‘imagination’ should be fairly easy to find, and cheap too. We let it go to seed each year and it comes back like clockwork. It’s a fine container plant as well, so put this one on your list.
Those are pretty. I could do with a container full of those.
What are the yellow flowers?
and they’re another one of those we let go to seed so we don’t have to re-plant the following year. Actually, you could do this planting in a good sized pot and with enough sun (full, preferred) you would likely be very successful. They make a good combo, and the poppies are so pretty and prolific they go all summer long. We’ve got several areas of the garden where they rule in conjunction with delphiniums and the two together is well, kickass!
You’re unlikely to find CA poppy plants, so find some seeds, sow them directly in the pot when you plant the verbena, water, sun and you’ll have some colorful stuff. Your season is probably longer than ours, so if you started them now (or soon), you could have them for a while.
We already have some California poppies around here. I knew they looked familiar, but the ones we ge are more of a deep orange than a yellow.
I’m off to bed for the night (at least for a while). Thanks again and have a good evening!
They look a lot like them – that is, the yellow strain, not the pink ones.
Time for me to head out here, again, too late. I’ll leave some flowers for the early crowd, gaggle or whatever we are at that hour…

Omir, here’s another butterfly plant, but not grown in containers, alas… but bees love it too! This is echinacea purpurea in with heliopsis and bee balm, in case anyone’s keeping track…
Night, all!
wtf is up with all you late nite slackers?
Is it my imagination or have we had a recent influx of members? I think it’s time for a Welcome Wagon this weekend. SO, you slacking wagoneers, get with it , alright :p
Or your mule has done gone missing.
I shot the GD mule, cuz he wouldn’t get up off his Ass and pull that wagon. THEN I beat him, so I guess you could say I beat half a dead horse. *:p
That’s what you get for hiding under the wagon during those tornados. By the way, did they get as far South as Jackson? They did serious damage upriver in SEMO.
Didn’t make it this far south. Lately we’re slipping underneath the bad weather – it is passing to the north of us, for the most part. I have no doubt that our day will soon come, though. April is monsoon season for Mississippi. Most all of our record floods happen in April, though sometimes in March.
You guys have been getting some rain up there recently, I’ve noticed. Any good(/bad) storms?
Only one that stirred the frogs out of the mud. Lost 2 shingles, nothing happened.
Warm winter. Forsythia blooming. Mud season, oh joy.
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own
Alone again, naturally
Finished writing my test, spouse finished his mid-sleep snack, that’s it, goodnight, all. Even the cats are asleep.
