How’s everybody this morning?
Morning all!!!! Last night was a great night. Went to a DEM Dinner to wait for election results in the runoff’s here. I am happy to say that the candidates I was supporting one with a large margin!!!
But enough about politics.
How’s your new tattoo?
LOL I did not get a tattoo this weekend but will probbaly get it this coming one. There was a huge event going on in Austin and traffic problems so I stayed close to home. LOL
I hope you’ll post a picture of it. I love seeing things that I’m way too chicken to do.
I’m brewing extra strong coffee this morning in an attempt to wake up from a night of restless sleeping, smacking Mr. Nature to get him to stop snoring, and a nightmare involving cockroaches climbing on me.
Family Man stayed up late again last night – I think maryb beat him to bed.
The big cockroaches that fly? Those and water beetles are the only bugs that gross me out. A nightmare like that would have killed my sleep for the rest of the night.
Yes, those very same ones. I’ve had one crawling on me in my sleep twice since I’ve been here and I can never really be comfortable in bed after that. I lay there wide-eyed imagining them approaching my bed in the dark.
I’m getting used to seeing a stray palmetto bug during the day – they’re so big it’s almost like encountering a bird or something in the living room. It doesn’t both me that much. But in the middle of the night it’s just creepy.
my full sympathy.
It’s just another joy of southern living.
Good Morning Everyone.
Good morning, Party Man.
What can I say. I’m paying for it this morning. I overslept by two hours.
Aside from the cockroach dream I had one about you.
It started with visiting your website and signing up to be a member, then suddenly all of the people who had signed up had to go (physically) to an introductory meeting and play those ‘getting to know you’ games. Then suddenly we were all in my grandmother’s old house and my family was there and it was weird.
My medication makes me dream these big elaborate dreams lately.
Hey it sound like a good idea to me. That way I could get ya’ll all down here. I do tend to drone on during introductory meetings though.
I’m still half asleep, but izzy won’t be around today right?
Right, so drone on.
ok what web site is this FasmilyMan?
Which one are you talking about. The one i just put up?
How many web sites do you have?
Your first nap?
Hey, he has a tight schedule, Andi. Same as me. If I have more than one thing planned for a single day it’s too much.
I’m just jealous because he’s younger than me and has achieved my ultimate goal — I always wanted to be retired when I grew up.
Like I said before, it’s not all it’s cut out to be.
You have to have a routine. Now to be able to sleep until 2:00 pm like SN. That’s another matter.
I’m very good at setting my own routine. I just want to set it for what I want to do.
I’ve found the secret to retirement is to retire rich. Unfortunately I didn’t find the secret out until after I retired.
I should be on a sunny beach somewhere sipping some drink and being fed grapes, but alas, I’m here taking care of lawns and running from snakes.
That has no appeal to me — I’m good for about 5 minutes on the sunning on the beach and then I’m bored and ready to go to something else.
It depends on what you’re drinking and who is stuffing grapes into your mouth. Oh the daydreams I’ve had.
Nappage is a very serious exercise. I found something by Mark Twain last night when I was making my site. It fits me to a T.
I have never taken any exercise except sleeping and resting. Mark Twain
serious about being a serious napper, I strongly suggest you obtain one immediately.
Interestingly, insomnia sufferers will also find that the Jaipur quilt is a more effective soporific than the pharmaceutical companies can ever hope to produce.
I’ve never even heard of them Ductape.
Thanks Ductape. It does look like it would be conducive to serious nappage.
not something you can see in a picture. It is a particular kind of cotton made in Rajastan (well they probably call themselves making it other places, but the best is from there) called mul-mul, sometimes transliterated as mal-mal.
It is a particular kind of cotton spun into thread so fine, and woven so precisely that the result, when worn as clothing, is that one is not wearing clothing, and when used to make a Jaipur quilt (stuffed also with the Rajastan cotton) that if you are in a cold place, you feel warmth, if hot, cool, and as always, the feeling of the stuffed mul-mul on any exposed skin.
It is not easy to describe why, but it will put you right to sleep. They are machine washable, and dryable, to dry them, turn it on low and leave it all day, or the cotton will bunch up, but even if this happens, it doesn’t matter much. They will last for generations.
And no, I do not know sanjay. I just did an eBay search. The ones he has look just like one a neighbor bought on eBay a couple of years ago that is the real thing.
We have several of Jim’s grandmother’s quilts and while they are nice, I had to admit that I like my flannel sheets better.
I’m a flannel sheet person too. While I was in Germany I had a beddekker (sp) or goosedown quilt made for me. It cost a fortune, but it was so warm. In the last 16 years I haven’t been able to use it and it makes me mad.
I can’t use mine either because Mr. Nature is too hot. 🙂
But sometimes in the summer when I’m sick to death of the heat, I crank up the AC until it’s freezing in my room and wrap up in the down comforter and pretend it’s January in Cleveland.
Except for the Cleveland part, I think you have described normal bed behavior.
fantasize about being in Cleveland in January? I’m shocked.
It might hurt Jim’s grandma’s feelings. Unless she is from Rajastan, which I don’t think, or you would not be saying you preferred flannel sheets.
Of course you could also get HER a Jaipur quilt, and while she might feel some sadness that her own are no match, she would soon fall asleep and be obliged to acknowledge the quality of the art.
All our grandparents are long gone (given that our mothers are in the mid-80’s it would be really amazing if it were otherwise), this isn’t something we have to worry about.
A couple of the quilts are over 100 years old and fairly delicate (because they had a lot of use in their younger days) so we don’t use them at all but have retired them to a place of honor.
You know I have the same thing. I was lucky enough to get one of my Grandmothers quilts and in 30 years I’ve never used it. It’s one of those things I would hate to see anything happen to.
And without knowledge of those quilts, maybe you are wise to have them for display only.
However, for the benefit of lurkers who have older Jaipur quilts, I can attest that they are quite long lasting, and can be used normally through many generations.
I know that some cottons break down around the century mark, but the Rajastan kind is like the Energizer bunny. It just keeps going….
Getting in here before 8am! Only half an hour later than FM!
Hi Andi, r69, SN, FM, Duct!
Just because I overslept. Morning Olivia and it’s 7:00 am here.
It really is awful to have insomnia.
What time zone is that FM–the one you’re in?
Central. I only have it occasionally now. I used to have it bad, but somehow got over it. That joking about the Ambien really was true with me. I would get up in the middle of the night and not remember anything.
There are certain payments to be made for Geezerhood.
I saw the bit on it on CNN a couple weeks ago where people were eating and painting and do all manner of things and had no idea when they ‘woke’ up in the morning.
My family told me I would talk with them for hours and I even called a few friend in the middle of the night. It scared me because I thought what if I ever decided to go for a drive in the middle of the night.
I’ve had a few doctors offer to prescribe it for me now, but it’s always a definite no from me.
That is really dangerous.
It’s interesting that your accent sounds much more Canadian without the mean streak. 😉
As someone who has no accent at all, she sounds normal to me. 🙂
When I was a teenager I took a trip up through mid Canada over to Vancouver. My cousin was with me and he kept telling me how much they sound like us. I told him ‘you idiot, we’re the ones that sound like we’re from outer space here’. I have to admit I really loved it up there.
You wouldn’t say they sound like us then. Have a listen to Rick Mercer: [link]
It looks just like the Daily Show! And he sounds like a cross between Ireland and North Dakota.
I love the cafe photo! It’s such a happy photo.
The thing he does I’d love to capture is that when he spots something interesting in the woods, he does this little leaping up that’s something like a springbok. It always cracks me up but I’m never fast enough to get it and I’m betting a still photograph wouldn’t capture the movement anyway.
It sounds adorable! But yes, hard to capture.
My heart is still racing after my encounter with a wild rabbit this morning. I approached him silently, camera in hand, crawling through the early morning dew, all the while thinking I would scare him off. As you can see he allowed me to come quite close before scampering off.
SN you turned the poor thing to stone. I don’t know, but the term hydra comes to mind.
I think it’s salt. We shouldn’t have looked back at Sodom, or Gomorrah or whatever that wicked place is.
Gorgon, not hydra.
The gorgon Medusa.
We’re mighty fiesty this morning aren’t we?
Just can’t let an erroneous greek mythological reference slip by.
Tired today?
Morning Mary. No I’m actually feeling pretty good. Just cooked a big breakfast and ate and waiting on the AC man to get here.
Got to get that AC fixed before it gets too hot.
How are you today?
We try to tell you that you feel better when you get LESS sleep not MORE.
Oh that’s what the young always say. I know ya’lls plan. Have the geezers falling like flies to make more room for the younger group.
Anyway I’m still in search of the perfect nap.
Where there naked dancers?
Yup, I see him! Nice work, SN!
I supposed I should do something today. See you all later. Or all ya’ll.
Going back to sleep I see.
Well Mom is up unusually early, and I’ve got to cook breakfast. Be back in a while.
On the countdown: X-out 3! (Whatcha got for me, AndiF?)
Morning MM. It’s getting shorter. How are you today?
Pretty good FM! I thought you were making breakfast…. have you discovered a secret way to blog through thought control?
I wish, but pancakes are pretty easy to make. I got my Mom and myself fed and now I’m ready for the AC man to get here and to keep blogging my little heart out.
I never thought pancakes were easy to make. Easy to eat, yes.
Nothing to say but …
LOL!!!! I wish I could have all these pictures in one place so I could print them out for posterity!
Here are links to the first two.
No 5
No 4
Now if you open each one in a separate window and do some judicious resizing and rearranging you can capture them all in one screen shot.
Well, I’m off to perform my twalette! (Can you guess what that is?)
then, I’m meeting some friends for breakfast instead of getting to work on time. So fire me! Ha.
See you in the office.
Have a good twalette and day MM. 😉
Just a quick hello, since I’m at work, but good to see the usual crowd of characters here and so chipper already. Bright and sunny here so far today and supposed to hit 75, while I shiver in my cube with a space heater running! The building where I work is always like a refrig, summer and winter.
Anyway, my big news is for Olivia actually… I found the seeds you wanted online after you left last night. Go to the end of the late night cafe all the way down and I put a link to the supplier in the comment. Will continue to check on other sources, but this could get you started!
Can’t believe FM made it in so early… I warned him I wouldn’t make it! I’ll try to pop in towards the end of the afternoon if I can, but I’m swamped again this week at work. See you all later!
Have a good day IVG.
Thanks, FM! It will be busy, but hopefully will go by quickly. I hope to have pictures of those tulips I was talking about last night… the Persian Pearls. If they cooperate and stay open long enough for me!
I’m looking forward to it. Keep that heater going and don’t get too cold at work.
I haven’t had a chance to catch up on the last cafe. I’ll go take a look. Thank you thank you thank you!
Glad to be able to help out!
Getting by on short sleep, but feeling pretty chipper — I finished my meditation for Good Friday, so I feel like I accomplished something. Going out to breakfast in a bit then some assorted erranding.
Weather seems to be a bit calmer, but still concerned about SallyCat — if she makes it in today, give her a big hug for me, will ya? (Posted in last night’s Cafe that there was some heavy weather up her way, and I was concerned…)
Okay, off to check the blogs before shower time…toodles! 🙂
Hello Cali. Hope you have a good day today, especially being so chipper.
Good morning Froggies, I just stopped by to dispense some of these extra 4’s. I buy ’em by the case lot at Costco, you know.
See you this afternoon!
Morning Omir. Have a good day at work.
New Lunch cafe open here.
