Time for Friday Random 10…
What are you drinking?
It’s a gorgeous spring day here, perfect for a mojito…
The iPod’s loaded and ready to play

Please recommend (and unrecommend the Cafe/Lounge from earlier)
|
May the 4’s be with you
It looks wonderful but I bet it has alcohol in it.
Not anymore OMIR π
Ah, Janet, what would I do without you to consume my alcohol for me?
Yeah, I know, I’d get drunk.
Someone gave me the wrong directions! Is this place even open?!
maybe the spider scared everybody away.
Holy Crap? Only on Mondays.
[/blasphemous Catholic joke]
Totally ok – I am a blasphemous Catholic.
obviously O:-)
I see your little halo! Cool.

Does he have a gigantic tongue or is he eating something?
I’d get all kinds of interesting speculation on what was in his mouth.
It looks like a slimy little grub that just gnawed off it’s own penis after mating.
too bad it’s just an acorn.
SN can dream can’t she. π
Oh. Then nevermind.
But that turtle’s evil eye could scare the nuts off of a grub (or maybe just someone grubby).
What a darling aphorism – I believe I’ll be using that in the near future.
We’ve got a thunderstom coming and the trees are blowing around pretty good. Just heard thunder so I’m shutting down.
I’ll be back after.
I love(d?) Kirsty MacColl.
yes, ‘loved’ is unfortunately correct.
So tell me about Anna Nalick or Victor Wooten; I’ve never heard of either of them.
Okay, you’re going to have to convince me that Chicago is dorky while The Manhattan Transfer is/are? not.
PS. I have that song, too, btw, but then we all know I’ll freely admit to listening to and enjoying uncool music. π
that dorky is in the ear of the listener.
lol, sounds like we agreed it’s only dorky when you don’t like it. ;p I bought you a present today, but I’m not tellin’ ya what it is.
deferred gratification, especially when someone else is both offering and deferring.
BTW, I had some of my more historic music tastes rated by the Insufferable Music Snob and I came as a bit too hippie and about 50% cool.
I’m sorry, I probably should’ve known better already than to have teased you in that way. It’s just a little piece of Flagstaff swag, no biggie.
I think if I started posting FRTs over there, she wouldn’t let me post on her blog anymore at all, lol.
I’m just teasing back — in revenge. π
Is a the Grand Canyon Cafe Chop Suey sign?
I’ve never posted a FRT. I just sent in an IMS question on my coolness quotient with examples for my vinyl collection.
Is a the Grand Canyon Cafe Chop Suey sign?
No. Although I am considering taking a picture of the sign at the corner of Beaver & Cherry to frame and hang in our new apartment.
and it will certainly support your lo-brow cred.
These aren’t exactly random, but I closed my eyes while picking them.
Gotta Change the Rules – The Robert Cray Band
In a Country Churchyard – Chris de Burgh
Simple Man – Lynyrd Skynyrd
San Jacinto – Peter Gabriel
All the Girls Love Alice – Elton John
A Lot Like Me – Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Maybe You’re Right – Cat Stevens
World in Changes – Dave Mason
Paradise by the Dashoard Lights – Meat Loaf
Ziggy Stardust – David Bowie
I loves me some Dirt Band!
I’ve got rippling waters to wake me
to the morning my woman and love
and tall pine trees are pointing us easily
to heaven above
blue spruce waving on the grade in the evening
takes the chill away fine
cut the telephone line
and the story’s the same
Oh, like a bubble on a windy day
start to flutter when I hear you say
that you feel too good to go away
and you make me feel fine
and you made my world a warmer place
by the sparkling of your diamond face
Oh little Jennifer I’d pay a penny for
what you’ve got on your mind
seems like most of the time you’re
lying there dreaming
or maybe in your vision
you see how our mission is
slightly less than divine
cut the telephone line and the story’s the same
..by memory so it might differ from your version, FM
I don’t know. A lot of time with me it’s the tune or music that draws me to a song.
On that Dirt Band song I have down, it’s the slide guitar, banjo and harmonies.
I can’t really tell ya any song that I know all the words to.
This is from “Twenty Years of Dirt”…it’s got all the best ones. That one is Rippling Waters.
Are you talking about the song I had down?
My CD shows Working Band.
Nah, just one of my favorite Dirt Band songs. I’ve never heard of the one you have there, I’ll have to listen to it.
All the Girls Love Alice! I haven’t heard that in years. Love that song.
Hey Indy. I’ve been in & out all day, but I agree with you. One of my favorite songs on the album.
Let me tell you my life story since I’m stuck in the office…
I was born in a little cabin deep in the wild untamed woods of suburban Cleveland. Every night while Ma was washing our little tin cups and saucers, Pa would play the fiddle and we’d dance around the woodstove in our petticoats.
Sigh. All I want to do is flop down on my bed and fall blissfully asleep. Wah.
I thought the guys repairing my AC were here for a long time. Are they build an addition to the house too?
They’ve been here for 8 hours and 52 minutes.
and they’re hoping if they stay long enough the Wendy Bird will agree to be their mother.

Dream Weaver — Gary Wright
Jerry Springer — “Weird Al” Yankovic
Interlude II — Mannheim Steamroller
Never Know — Jack Johnson

Justorum animae (comp. Byrd) — Stanford Chorale
Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 in F Major: III. Allegro — Cologne Chamber Orchestra
Almost thought I was going to get a Random 10 without any classical…till 9 and 10 snuck in there… π
Gotta hand it to Cali — I don’t think I’ve ever seen a list with weird al and bach before.
My list might if there weren’t so many other things to choose from.
I thought Led Zeppelin and Bach was the weird pairing…till I remembered I have Matt Haimovitz playing “Kashmir” on solo cello…now that’s a trip and a half… π
My usually sedate job is pulling me in several incompatible directions today. But it’s time for a coffee break, so here’s 10:
Tango to Evora–Loreena McKennitt
Rusty Nails–Kila
Smoothie Song–Nickel Creek
The Rooster Moans–Iron & Wine
Ohio–Neil Young
Different Stars–Trespassers William
Karen By Night–Jill Sobule
Wang Dang Doodle–Koko Taylor
Can’t Find My Way Home–Blind Faith
Cry–The Sundays
Your lists always seem to be combinations of people I know really well and people I’ve never heard of.
LOL! Guess I’m an all-over-the-road kind of gal.
Every time I see your lists, I want to borrow your music collection! π
Another online pal of mine just turned me on to Jill Sobule — she is awesome.
She’s wonderful! I saw her a few years back opening for Paula Cole and became a fan on the spot.
I am so outraged at the responses to Military Tracy’s diary – that I feel I have to leave for a really long break. At least at DailyKos I know there are sharks in the water and the animals aren’t tame. I can no longer accept the level of intolerance of some posters without it becoming poisonous to others by my responses.
At Booman Tribune it appears that some of the frogs are poisonous to some of the rest of us. The pond has polluted waters and I can’t swim here until I get some stronger HazMat gear.
My email is in my signature / profile…or stop by Village Blue or DailyKos.
I’m sorry SallyCat. Take care.
since it was only at 6 comments, but now I’m scared to go over there…take a deep breath, short break, and come home soon… π

meet-up on Sunday May 7 in SF?
A lunchtime thing…I’ll get you some info if you want…
from the SoCal meetup? If not, I’ll email you — Sundays can be tricky, but spouse and I will make it if we can… π
I’ve been busy this afternoon…what the hell happened. Never mind, I’ll go look now…
who see a uniform but can’t see the human being within… π
You do have great way of summarizing life – thanks for being so special.
Well, 2 or 3 mainly. Not bad for over 3000 of us IMO. Not everyone is going to agree but hopefully we’ll disagree respectfully. I wouldn’t want to live in a world where everyone was exactly like me. Not saying that I’m not cool, just that it would be so vanilla. π
I, too, am very sorry to hear that, Sally. But you do what you have to do. Please remember that a lot of us would never treat you or MT badly, so it’s really more our loss than theirs. I totally respect your decision, and hope to see you come back when you’re ready.
I also recognize that I have vicious temper when provoked. Today I am provoked beyond any place I have been in years – more so than the pie wars.
Being human I know how much harm I can do, and have done in the past, with my words. I choose not to pollute the pond waters with my temper and angry words.
If I choose to live by rules of ‘do no harm’ then I must leave for a while.
Peace…
I’ll miss you and your pootie pics, Sally, but stand firm in my support of your decision, no matter how sad it may make me personally. I’ll look for you at Village Blue, as I plan on signing up there very very soon!
Thanks for the kind response, too.
Peace be with you, as well. {{{{SallyCat}}}}
Hey IVG. You still at work or at home?
I just saw this! I’m home now, finally!! Took a quick stroll around the garden, fed the dogs and getting ready to head off to watch KO in a few minutes. But I’ll be back later… hope to catch you then!
No problem IVG. Enjoy yourself.
BTW when you get back, explain to me what KO is? I haven’t figured it out yet.
Keith Olbermann… Countdown on MSNBC. The only news show worth watching… if you’ve never seen him, you need to cultivate that habit right now. Just ask CaliScribe and a few others around here, we’re all big fans of his.
I’m such an idiot some times. Of course I know him.
A couple of days ago I also saw him on Cspan II.
I’m sorry to hear that you’re leaving, but you have to do what you think is best. Thank you for telling us and not just disappearing — {{{{SallyCat}}}}
Made myself a painkiller and put on a smile. Cheers, pond dwellers!
Thanks, tammrak…! I’ll take about 52 of those, if you don’t mind…
Comin’ right up, would you like a cherry?
With tongue planted firmly in cheek, I’m going to tell you it’s safe to leave the cherries the hell out of IVG’s cocktails. ;p
How on earth could you surmise I’m not a fan of cherries? Not one of my favorite fruits, that’s for sure … thanks for the mega LOL that provoked.
Want another laugh? I don’t like ’em either. This announcement “no cherry please” does not go over well in the lesbian bar, let me tell you. I always wind up having to tie a knot in the stem with my tongue in order to prove my worthiness. π
That looks divine.
I’m heading out to a cheap Mexican restaurant with the gang since I didn’t have a chance to cook anything for dinner. Nice how that worked out, huh?
See everyone later.
Other than the search for calmer waters by some… how’s the end of the work week gang, and other well known slackers?
larger
It’s Friday and the playoffs start TONIGHT! WooHoo! Ottawa v Tampa Bay, Rd1, G1!
especially since they are playing against a team from a city where hockey might be mistaken for an invasive plant.
Ouch, that hurt. You should warn me when you are going to have pictures with sky and trees so I don’t hurt myself when I fall over in shock.
Great sky. Nice trees.
Guess what! It’s playoff time! Tonight! WooHoo! And I was just out in the garden and there is one daff! And I’m going camera shopping tomorrow! And it’s Friday! And playoffs start tonight! WooHoo!
but I think I detect a certain level of excitement in your demeanor.
If you get the camera tomorrow, we’ll be expecting you to post a picture with the new camera by Sunday. π
And everything you’re excited is completely worthy of all that enthusiasm.
WooHoo!
Do you think I’ll have figured out how to turn it on by Sunday?
If I figured out how to turn it on, I know you can. π
Are you going to wait to get a macro lens?
Phew… So far so good — got through the first PK.
I’m going to go in tomorrow and see what kind of deal they’ll give me if I get a macro lens too. I am 95% sure that I will get one tomorrow. If I’m not happy w/ it they have a good return policy.
I think I’d be lost w/out macro power.
I very suggestive in that way.
Jim says the 60mm requires you get very close which he didn’t like but seems like it might suit you. He says it’s also a good general lens (very good for portraits). He has the 105mm. He says you should play with them both before deciding. And he says he didn’t consider the 105mm digital because it was so expensive.
Okay thanks! I’m adding this comment to my ‘Jim Notes’.
So….what’s your prognostication w/ Emery in goal?
Re: Denver v Dallas, I betting Stars in 6…they went 3-1 against the Av’s in RS, and Av’s goal tending ain’t so good right now.
I’m not sure — we’ll see who gets the first goal. I’m reeeaaaaaallllllly nervous about it though — the whole city is buzzing today — not sure what’s going to happen! He’s had a minor injury I think and w/ Hasek basically out, well — it’s been rough.
cuz they’re in the nosebleeds and I’d rather watch it on my 9footx7foot theatre screen. Woohoo! (The guys are as tall as me — screen fills the whole wall.)
We will try to go to a few… Have a friend w/ ST down lower who’s not using ’em.
I’m shocked!…Shocked! I say…It’s things like that that make being a Luddite difficult.
I am shocked, astounded, flabbergasted, dada. You a Luddite? Whooda thunkit?
but so totally cool! I mean they’re lifesize dada!
I truly did not know such things were availabe…Guess the 13″ Sony down in the basement’s a collectors item now.
Unless it’s black and white, in which case your high tech to me. π
Not everything fits 9×7 — our basement is basically a theatre.
The whole city is buzzing about a hockey game?
How quaint. π
advance warning for “trees and sky” in the afternoons,
no “heavy” diaries early in the morning…
Hmmmmm?
I’ll trade ya for a early warning on both of the above for an early warning on any fleshing-eating turtles. Thank da spaghetti monster I had “mine” in my left boot when I walked by that critter up above.
It’s kind of interesting that I have seen hundreds of turtles but I had never noticed how absolutely evil their eyes look close up.
all along the Sheyenne River, which was some 12 miles east of my hometown. I didn’t believe my classmates who came from that area when they were telling me how big they were. Seems like the shells were two feet long.
Haven’t seen any here locally.
Snapping turtles
I think they could probably chop a 2X2″ in two in one try.

Yay, I got to do two of these today. I loves me some FRT.
Hello! I’m still around just been BUSY! House hunting and dental er stuff, CodePink stuff, kids health and dealing with possible Vertigo issues of my own.
On my way to Portland for the Friday Rally/March. They’re arresting immigrants in Portland, too… what a horrible regime this is.
Yeah, we live in a police state now. Openly.
Take good care of yourself, hon.
7-8:30ish or after 2ish?
I was going to call you tonight…but it’s much better that you are going to show them some pink!
Yes, I can call you after 2ish for sure. I’ve been having a bit of a time with my ear/dizzyness. But.. at least I have a doctor and will be undergoing tests.. it’s just this month is so damn busy. House hunting and now so much CodePink stuff.
Police State as Indy said. It sure is. We have “Free Speech Zones” HOLY FUCKIN’ SHIT!
The Decider was in The Governator land today I saw. My friend almost went to portest but would have had to go alone and that isn’t too smart to do nowadays. They’re arresting people just for marching. It’s crazy town out there.
I’ll miss the first post season hockey game but more than ever we need to get out and be heard.
Okay I gotta hit the train. XOXOX give everyone my lovies… and cooties π
Be safe you!
I hope you’re feeling better — been thinkin’ of ya! {{{{DJ}}}}
The UPS driver just brought my copy of “The Virgin of Small Plains,” the new book by our own Kansas. What with something good to read and Starfest (Denver’s Star Trek/sci-fi convention) on Sunday, it should be a nice weekend!
I just got back.
What’s going on?
all gone?
As for what’s going on — we seem to have abandoned slug sex for hockey.
Storm is past, I think. Still cleaning dust.
Hockey over slug sex. Is there no propriety in the cafe?
Listen — you just need to be tutored in the fine aspects of hockey and you would grow to love it. It is a mixture of art and athletics on ice!
I just read the slug sex bit — was afraid to at work, NSFW ya know… π They sound mighty industrious!
You’re probably right on hockey, but it not or ever will be tiddly winks.
A most artistic and athletic game.
Did you get all the dust cleaned up?
Nope. I got tired and shut down early. A little more tommorow.
I see you’re going to be in a hockey induced coma? Enjoy.
If you think hockey p-offs induces coma you really do need those lessons FM! π
I’ve watched hockey before, and know how exciting it can be. Sort of like bowling.
Chris took some pics for me today while I was at work, and valiantly took a few of those pink tulips I want to post for you. Plus more tulip pics and some of the bleeding hearts as well. I may be able to post some later… just need to resize them and upload to PB first… so they’re on their way!
I am finally freed from work for the week… finished my part of the report today (well, the 98% that I had to do), so big sigh of relief there. Now if it just flies well on Monday morning during team review… always something to worry about huh? π
I’ll be around and waiting — especially if you took pink ones LOL! I was rolling in the dirt when I got home too — got some good pix that I’m trying to resize and upload too. See you later tonight!
It’s so smoky and crowded in here I can’t find anybody!
Good thing it’s virtual smoke else we’d probably have to outfit you with a scuba tank, huh?
How was dinner?
Dinner was lousy! I was determined to order something that was NOT my usual fajitas and it was crappy. So I basically had chips and salsa and Pepsi for dinner.
open a new lounge?
Open container laws suspended. Bring your drinks to the new lounge.
