They are so busy chattering away it takes them a while to notice that tired waiters and waitresses are putting chairs up on the tables and trying to sweep the floors.
BTW — I also recommended. I’m pretty much the only one that does it, with a few exceptions, and I can’t even get them to talk about it. You know, the elephant in the middle of the table syndrome? Why doesn’t anybody recommend the FBL? Is it uncool?
hard to remember to go back and unrec the other one. And then sometimes they move so fast. Like I didn’t even get the last one 4rd with the roborater until it closed… me pretty slow tonight…
Yup all packed up, mostly, no furniture some blankets on the floor. Son and hubby will come by in the morning and collect the rest of me and my stuff, and off we go!
It feels wierd being in an empty apartment. All the work and bother of moving up here and then back again eight months later all for a crappy, annoying job and lots of jolly photographs. Ours not to reason why…. etc.
One of the more positive things to come out of the whole affair. I hope that tomorrow goes well for you! It will be a new transition, and I wish you the very best as you embark on it. {{{mm}}}
Oh, I thought you seen it. We discussed flash or not last night, and I was thinking the most amazing things show up sometimes in flash.
I was really kind of bummen to lose the sunshine, and just shot a few extra with flash, and that’s just how it turned out.
When the sun was out I was getting all kinds of junk in the background, tree trucks, sidewalks, river, fences, it was just bugging me, and then just as a fluke I tried the flash, and presto, all the background crap was gone.
So we may have to rethink our no flash idea, right?
… at the same time? The first one w/ blk bkground was taken just ahead of this one?
Do you see how the colour changes between the two? Which one resembles the true colour? I think I like the one w/ the green background … you can see more fine detail, like the little blk seeds(?)
Yeah, this one was taken just seconds after the “dark” one.
I’m going to try and do a little better job of framing, and then maybe try enlargements. For me it’s really hard to tell just looking at the computer screen.
They’re quite a lot different. No doubt the colors would be even more improved were the sun actually still shining on the 2nd one.
But the first one the edges ,those little hairy edges just glow, which I think is an interesting effect also.
Yes — I agree totally w/ you on that. I think that’s what’s so much fun playing. I love the furry/fuzzy edges in the dk bkgrd one, and the colours on the seedpods in the green bkgrd one.
Me too… what Olivia said… at first glance, the first thing that came to mind for me was a bunch of Venus Flytraps… did either of you think that or am I being my usual loony self?
yeah, now that you mention it, there was some vague flickering of thinking I’d seen something like that before, but I’m so unfamiliar with Venus Flytraps, I’d have never thought of it.
I wonder if that stuff is sticky, or stays sticky, or what the heck is it anyway.
I’ll go back and see if I can get a better shot of that 2nd one.
Took a look at the wx prediction, looks like there’s chance for some sun in the morning particularly.
If not, I’ll have to try to find something similar up north at the rural location. Same trees there, and the season on most everything starts later there, so I won’t have missed it, just might be too early if anything.
NDD, bless you, you weather nerd you! “WX prediction!” I thought I was the only one who used those sorts of terms…hehe. I too hope to get some more shots tomorrow, since new tulips are blooming every day.
And speaking of fringy edges and serrated looks, I have another one I took today I’ll post new down thread, since I don’t want to break the margins here…
If you do find one or similar, try taking a shot of just one of those pods w/ the furry edges. You’ll likely have to get right up close to it — like a couple inches away. See what you get w/ that kind of focus?
work so hard to write diaries. And there’s only 8 slots, not counting you “world” ones. So, I’m just thinking the regular diaries are more important. I always just go to the recent list to see what’s, well, recent with the FBCs
Yes, I know what you mean though about knocking those other diaries or taking a space. It’s worse too if the cafe closes and it’s still up there. I don’t know…
I loved the catkins you posted earlier! (They’re described in The Book too … 🙂
getting that one, and on closer inspection, seems I need both, ha!
Isn’t it interesting what one sees when one starts looking more closely at things, especially things in nature. I thank you again for your inspiration in that regard.
shell that my grandfather gave me when I was a young boy (about 4 or 5). I always used it to store my spare change, but recently converted it to a smudging bowl for the sage. I use it when I need to quiet myself down and re-center. I bet your courtyard is a fantastic place to relax.
cut off a clump of stems about 6-8 inches from the end of the petaled stems. The clump should be about 2-3 inches in diameter. Then bind it with twine such as kite string and hang it upside down until it’s completely dried out. It’s ready for lighting at that point, just let a small flame catch on the end for abit and then blow out for the smoke. Very cool stuff.
So does that mean we’re NOT supposed to recommend so the FBL doesn’t take up a diary slot by mistake? If so (and I ask only for information LOL) why does it always say to Please Recommend? (Duh!) Mythmother not so bright…
I’m not really sure what’s supposed to happen, and I can’t remember what the consensus was. We’ll have to quiz froggybottom about it tomorrow and demand a decision one way or the other … 🙂
you folks have the wild parties when I’m not around to enjoy them…a girl could get complexes around here lol…
Got the spouse to take me out to dinner, since it’s partially his fault I’ve been in such a funk lately (cue Brothers Johnson — “Get the Funk Out Ma Face…”). Nothing fancy, just Sizzler…I was in a major protein mode tonight; had steak and chicken but also had a good salad so I got my veggies like a good girl. 🙂
Got to get to bed soon; we’re going to try and get up early to make it to 8am service so we can come home and watch the Sharks beat the Predators (cross fingers).
Whoa…the flourescent light in the kitchen just turned off…crap — means we have to get this place cleaned up so we can have maintenance come in and replace the tubes (can’t do that ourselves)…
Can’t believe you folks have burned through about 3 lounges since I went off for dinner and a movie… I’m still all weepy eyed from watching Brokeback Mountain again… and the haunting music won’t leave my head… And speaking of heads… I really wanted to mess w/dada’s with this shot, but oh well. I’ll post it anyway!
Anything for my dearest Canadian gardening friends!
Here’s another one I liked today… though it’s not quite what I was aiming for, I think it turned out well.
The full resolution/size pic is much more impressive I think, but this has been reduced to save space. 🙁
Thx, NDD… I’m amazed that some of these turned out as well as they did, given the breezy conditions I was trying to shoot in today. I did like how the sun filtered through parts of the petals in this one and the orange one above… And your other shot of the ash was equally impressive, though the flash one does look more mysterious and almost alien. You got some great definition on the serrated parts of those leaves though! Isn’t macro fun?? hehe
to try to get really good contrast and definition of edges, so I chose this parrot feather tulip that just opened yesterday… I’m pretty happy with this shot, but I may crop and mess around with it a bit later to make it look more impressive. I’m going to take more tomorrow, since these have been petering out over the past few years <sigh>… the fancy tulips just don’t have the staying power of our regular Darwins, which are our favorites…
except I think I see a couple of these hiding in the midst of the others, with which I am familier. So if you need more seed of those, I think I can find you some here in the next few weeks.
and I do like them, just not in my flower beds… which is a recurring point of contention around here. I’m fine with them anywhere in the grass, but when they go crowding out my delphiniums and other prized plants, I go apeshit. In fact, dandelions are excellent soil amenders… they will help break up and amend clay soils and other crappy dirt, thanks to their long tap roots. I’m just persnickety about them in my prized beds… hehe.
Any time you want a tulip tutorial, my friend, just let me know… there are hundreds, if not thousands of varieties, and I don’t claim to know them all, but they are fascinating things. People used to thieve and kill for them you know?
They are, it’s just too bad that after 5 years, the 10 or so we planted originally are down to about 3 or 4 … some of the other ones have long since given up the ghost. That’s why we prefer the simple Darwins, because they last ages and always return true to form.
And WOW, Olivia… you weren’t kidding when you said you got down in the dirt to take pics… those hyacinth shots are awesome! Nice bonus that they smell so wonderful too, eh?
though I love the stuff… I’ve gone from coffee fiend to barely drinking the stuff the last few years. Actually I’m having a nice shot of whiskey to buzz me off to bed right now. I’m a natural night owl, always have been… maybe I should start hosting the 24/7 thread huh? LOL
Just wanted to repeat my offer that if you ever see a pic of mine you really like and would like to have, don’t hesitate to email me, and I’d be happy to send you the full resolution big size version… I’m happy to share them among friends! If you do email, just make sure to put something BT related in the subject line so I can rescue the mail from my spam catcher…
Take care, and take more cool pix! I should get outta here too, and catch up on a few diaries before bed. It’s been the usual pleasure yapping w/you and Olivia!
I might just do that. MS NDD rotates olivia flowers on a regular basis, she’d like yours too, I’m sure.
I might even do an enlargement if we both really fall in love with one. I’m trying avoid just having my stuff up on the walls, might get a swelled head or something otherwise.
Don’t be shy about asking! I usually take my pics at a pretty high resolution, then resize them down to make them manageable for upload and posting, but always keep the full screen version. Never a problem to share … we midwest types are like that huh? Only place to live… I missed our friendly feel the whole time I suffered in FL, and was so glad to get back up here finally in 94!
Anyway, take care my friend, and good night. Or as Keith Olbermann says every night… “Keep your knees loose … good night, and good luck!” then he throws the wadded paper ball at the camera! If you watch Countdown you know what I mean. 🙂
Good night… {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{OLIVIA!}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
I’m so glad I finally got up the nerve to speak to you about photographing flowers… I was so intimidated at first, but you have given me inspiration and many great tips. BT is such a great place to share these things… I’m so glad I finally de-lurked and signed up!
Umm, NDD, you need to get out more in the flower world hehe! Last fall was the first time we planted hyacinths because we used to think they were soooo common (well the pinks and whites are) and were snobby about them. But now that we planted the reds and purples this year, I’m hooked. People often force them to bloom inside in late winter, which is nice, because then you have wonderful perfume in the house…. OH, and I just remembered… Hyacinths are another deer repellent flower… plant them and daffodils at your garden site and the lil Bambis will stay away!
Hey! Where is everybody?
Mythmother here!
Present and accounted for? Good, I hate empty lounges.
They are so busy chattering away it takes them a while to notice that tired waiters and waitresses are putting chairs up on the tables and trying to sweep the floors.
Poor George — trying to mop around them.

All of them!
I was trying not to say it….
hard to remember to go back and unrec the other one. And then sometimes they move so fast. Like I didn’t even get the last one 4rd with the roborater until it closed… me pretty slow tonight…
What did we ever do before the roborater? What if it broke down suddenly and we had to go back to manual? I don’t know if I could handle it!
was creepy.
We need to train him better.
Was that a pic of him in that last Cafe, with the teeth? Because that just ain’t right.
when he gets here. It’s one thing to be Sherlock Holmes — it’s another to promote genetic mutations like that. 🙂
I defy definition.
pretty much clarifies it for me…

that would cause him to throw things at you?

I’m gone, too. If I don’t get some work done tomorrow I’ll never get outta this town. See y’all later in the week prob’ly. Night all!

Very cool shot, NDD! Marco did a great job, too! LOL
How did your day go — I think I read earlier that you’re all packed up?

I certainly wish you well in that endeavor!

I’m just seeing this now! Wow — that’s wonderful! I love how it’s black in the background. And the fuzzy/furry edges! What do you think?
Oh, I thought you seen it. We discussed flash or not last night, and I was thinking the most amazing things show up sometimes in flash.

Now that you’ve found something that you like — try it on some other subjects to see how the light affects the photo.
One problem I see right off though: does this mean you’ll only be able to take macro shots at night? 😉
I’ll show you how light it was at the same time I took that flash shot.
I think the sun had just gone down below horizon level.

So it doesn’t nessarily have to be “night”

I remember a discussion about not rec’ing b/c when people go away the old cafes stay ahead of the newer ones … no?
Did you buy anything when you went out today?
well, it’s likely that I am the one who missed out on a conversation. hmmm, dunno what the protocol is, I figured it’s saturday night. 🙂
I bought a dress shirt for a confirmation mass I’m attending tomorrow (and a cheesesteak at the food circle). Minimal damage inflicted.

I never did before either — just walked by without thinking about it. It’s amazing what’s happening all around us.
but are you burning incense daily to ward off the demons of system crash and send good Karma to Omir?

Does that count? Or is the burning the essential part … 😉
cut off a clump of stems about 6-8 inches from the end of the petaled stems. The clump should be about 2-3 inches in diameter. Ok, I’m really off to bed this time. Que les vayan bien (May you all go/be well)
that you not burn it indoors. But you should try it, it’s quite pleasant and doesn’t have the sharp odor that incense typically has.
Sounds rather nice. Thx for the tip. 🙂
I’ve got some but I’ve not burned any for a while. Good idea. I picked it myself where it was growing wild in a ditch not far from the homeland.
like burnt peppers???
Nothing blue and funky like that. But I have told Omir how thankful I am!
We’ll have to quiz froggybottom about it tomorrow and demand a decision one way or the other … 🙂

right into that one.
Hehe, I was having tulip macro fun today … since Olivia inspired me last night… I’ve got even trippier ones too 🙂
VERY cool pic up thread there… what on earth is that? Some kinda tree budding would be my guess…
I’m fairly certain that it’s an ash tree, doing it spring flower-seed-making thing.
What was trippy was the contrast in effect between a low light, sun just went down, using flash.
The one above was flash, and here’s the one just after that one was taken, which is still during daylight, or dusk I suppose would be more accurate.
I’ve been holding on waiting… 😉
Does dada not like yellow/orange tulips — is there a story there?
Beautiful!
No story … just thought he’d find it appropriately psychedelic… this one’s for you, sweetie!

Thank you!
Anything for my dearest Canadian gardening friends!

Very interesting colors and shapes, and it looks like all stages in the top one from bud to full flower.
I’m wondering if I’ve seen them much around here. They can’t be very common, at least with the people I know who raise flowers.
I’ll have to ask my friend, Art, he’s got a whole yard full of flowers. That might be a good practice area for me too.
If you walked by them you’d smell them. And they’re very common here.
I think I’m going to call it a night guys — or a morning LOL!
I will look forward to seeing your macro progress tomorrow NDD, and some more of your beautiful garden IVG.
