A late lark twitters from the quiet skies: And from the west, Where the sun, his day’s work ended, Lingers as in content, There falls on the old, gray city An influence luminous and serene, A shining peace.
hey olivia, I have indeed. personal life is quite nice, work life is hell, but I am taking steps to rectify that situation. actually starting my own consulting practice as we speak 🙂 that’s mainly why I haven’t been around much, exceptionally busy in the ‘real’ world.
how you been? how’s ottawa – flowers in full bloom I hope?
I was rooting for the Flames against Tampa Bay in the last Stanley Cup. No good reason, I was just watching the Cup on Canadian TV and obviously they were rooting for their compatriots.
Actually I’m listening to one of the games but it’s not something I’m emotionally invested in. In fact I feel a bedtime story coming on (or so my granddaughter tells me).
I can’t say I don’t like this gig, except that this is the part of the movie where the guy who gets all the mangoes and cowrie shells and chocolate and girls he wants finds out that he’s getting thrown into the volcano.
If you’re talking about that hideous creature up thread, get him good and drunk Mary. Then we can push him off the wagon and let the horses drag him very far, very hard and very fast! Hopefully leaving some vital organs on the road for the vultures to pick at…
Hey there O!
Must come from all those years of reading about the French Revolution and other such frolics in the park. Though actually, that particular comment seems to have sprung from the depths of my memories of Flaubert’s Salammbô or perhaps Perfume (which I hear they’re finally making into a film… can’t wait).
I’ll get out the nice glasses, Mary, you and dada and I can slink into the corner and be antisocial whisky drinkers! Just don’t let me know where ya keep the really good stuff or you’re in trouble. 🙂
even if you’re not a true Southern belle… just simply belle. (Hoping your French is up for that obtuse one.)
Yeah, Cutty Sark was the first scotch I ever tried, because it was expensive and I thought it must be good. Blechhh… put me off the stuff almost for good until someone turned me on to the good stuff.
I’ll make a mental note to flog him when he shows up. I’ve already filed my signing statement, so I should be on the clear with that one! hehe… 750??? Holy Crap.
Me too.. I stopped by the eegee spot earlier today to see if there were any new posts and there weren’t. But I suspect he was kind of busy. I did notice there were at least pockets of el boicott around here today … no janitorial crew in our building tonight, and all the authentic Mexican restaurants closed for the day. Glad we got our fix at El Monterrey last night, so they could take the day off.
Yeah, I know, but Pepa is far more jealous than Rolly, and is more likely to actually notice and give me hell about it. You’re right though, I should do equal time, but chances are, I’ll icon-ize a cool flower soon and they’ll have to vacation in the back yard. They like that better anyway, or will, once it dries out a bit up here. Over 3″ of rain over the weekend!
We had a string of lt. showers moving thru late yesterday and last night…very pleasant, but <1/2″ accum., just enought to make everything wet this AM and delay my pruning binge.
Hope the city pick-up guys don’t get around here till Fri.
Hey there tammrak! I’ll leave the booty shakin to you… it’s been a long day and I don’t even think I could begin to dance, unless maybe somebody put on some Funkadelic. hehe
the entire site, inclu. house is 50′ X 75′..it’s pretty dense tho. I did very little last year because we were coming out of a drought and everything was already stressed…I’m paying for it this year.
So far w/ just pruning and cleaning up @ 1/3 of it, I’ve got 2 brush piles about 3’H X 4-5’W X 10-12’L…and I gots lots to go.
Yeah, all that cutting brush is hard work huh dada?
Yours is not that much smaller than ours, which is 120 x 60, and we’re still on the grass elimination plan, meaning, more flowers, less mowing. But then there’s the weeding, so not sure whether the trade off is a fair one, but it’s pretty.
I needs me one o them chainsaw thingy’s…not. I don’t have any grass, it’s all trees, bushes, ground covers and perrenials…all hand work, and I did get a late start due to weather.
That’s all I’m doing this week. Turn the ans. mach on and get after it…all that other crap can just wait…I always was a lousy employee…now that I’m self-unemployed…well you get the drift…:{)
You don’t need a chainsaw! Get one of these incredible inventions I got us last Xmas… The Unbelievable Saw … http://www.unbelievablesaw.com/
A little over $20, uses no fossil fuels, fun to use and can be stored in your pocket! Made in the USA, not sold at Wal-Mart, and supports what appears to be a mom and pop business in MI. What more can I say?
But the biggest stuff I cut is 2″ caliper +-. I’ve got 3pr. of pruning shears, a pruning saw, loppers, bow saw, and pole saw/pruner [telescoping to 14′] and had them all sharpened this year…things are just over grown.
NIC, rakes, hoes, weed diggers and other assorted implements of destruction…all manually powered unfortunately…hence the time req’d.
I just read the last lounge thread and refuse to enter the cafe until my friend has completed the annihilation of any remaining many-legged creatures (human beings and marmots excluded).
Hola, Manny! We’re all itchin to hear your stories from today. I was thinking about you and actually invoked you (nameless of course) when talking to some people outside the building when they were bitchin about no janitorial crew tonight, and saying stuff like “What do those people want?” I said, well you could start with a little respect and less hassling people for driving while brown, then work on up from there.
I noticed on your blog that there was a march in Ottumwa, IA today… makes perfect sense since there’s a big meat packing plant down there. I bet the ones in Council Bluffs and Omaha had stuff going on today as well.
I had to read upthread to see what you were talking about, apparently the incantation works on a spiritual level and I have no power to resist it.
Today was another fantastic day of fellowship and humanity. The candlelight vigil this evening had around 500 people with live music, statements of solidarity and prayers from various religious leaders in the community.
I’m really glad that the media covered it, and from I’ve read so far, the spin has been positive. We’ll see how things go, but I was encouraged to see the Pima County Democratic Party present again today signing up new voters. It’s such a myth that the majority of participants in these rallies are undocumented, this has become a pride/solidarity movement. The latino community has a horrendous voting percentage rate, this whole thing is galvanizing new activism, which can only signal change.
Of course the incantation works on a spiritual level. You don’t think I’d be so crass as to say it just because I thought you’d see it in recent comments? I know you have no power to resist it. 🙂
I hope you’re right about the new activism. I’ve always been disappointed by the turnout of the latino community in general — because I usually have assumed that if they showed up to vote, they’d tend to vote Democratic. The republicans offer nothing. So I hope you’re right.
It is a very good sign that the county dems were out today again.
Absolutely nothing went on here. There was a prayer service at the Catholic cathedral last night. I’d like to say I considered going — but god will understand that I can’t bring myself to be within 500 feet of the archbishop.
God understands, because I would join you in boycotting your archbishop. blech
I’m tapped out from the day, have a great night everyone. I need my rest to have a fresh brain for tomorrow’s retaliation when I host the cafe. [sinister grin]
Rest well, recharge and charge into tomorrow refreshed! Bud’s waiting for his belly rub now, right? Even if he’s not, do it anyway… it’ll be good for both of you!
Glad to hear it was a good day down your way! That had to be really energizing and gratifying for you. But I bet you’re running on fumes at this point … sounds like a huge expenditure of energies… but well worth it, I’m sure.
Did Bud tap into your inevitable tiredness and take a nap for you? Pepa does that for me a lot sometimes, and tries to channel some of her boundless energy back to her dad… doesn’t always work though. LOL
William Ernest Henley
Edmonton has scored twice to even it up against Detroit. Incredible game!!! Detroit could go under tonight OMG!!! GO EDMONTON
Sorry. I had to. 🙂
Checks for spiders…
Pshaw. Go OILERS Go.
Any ol’ Canuck team will do at this point… the one good thing is at least I’m getting outside more now that the make believes are audi. 😉
long time no read — hope you’ve been well!
hey olivia, I have indeed. personal life is quite nice, work life is hell, but I am taking steps to rectify that situation. actually starting my own consulting practice as we speak 🙂 that’s mainly why I haven’t been around much, exceptionally busy in the ‘real’ world.
how you been? how’s ottawa – flowers in full bloom I hope?
That sounds really great! Wishing you all the best w/ it!
The tulips have just popped this week — the Tulip Festival starts this w/e.
those pics in the morning.
Night.
I’ve gone from CRUDE!!! to CRUD!!! LOL
What an amazing game!!! Me and my are just fuhreaking out
Hey Janet, am I supposed to be cheering for the Flames now or later? And more to the point, why?
I’m listening to the game right now. It’s tied 1-1 in the 2nd but the Ducks got a 2-man advantage power play.
All Cdn Western final … ;P
I was rooting for the Flames against Tampa Bay in the last Stanley Cup. No good reason, I was just watching the Cup on Canadian TV and obviously they were rooting for their compatriots.
Is this an all hockey lounge?
Is this a problem?
I think the hockey people have all retired to their big screen tv’s. But you’re welcome to join all of us non-hockey watching lushes.
Actually I’m listening to one of the games but it’s not something I’m emotionally invested in. In fact I feel a bedtime story coming on (or so my granddaughter tells me).
if for no other reason, than having created the truly cool RoboRater (though there are many other very fine reasons as well!)
That’s what I like. Good, honest, hard-hitting, unbiased criticism.
Roborater?
Ice cream? Sandwiches? Chocolates? Me?
My wish is your command.
I can’t say I don’t like this gig, except that this is the part of the movie where the guy who gets all the mangoes and cowrie shells and chocolate and girls he wants finds out that he’s getting thrown into the volcano.
I don’t think I want to be involved in that part.
night!
Long vid replay but counted!
I haven’t even started dinner!!! Crazy game!!!
maybe we should entertain ourselves?
and the king and his minions to watch over us…
Where’d everybody go? Haven’t seen IVG, FM, NDD in a couple days.
if you had to bring a friend, did you have to pick THAT one?
Haven’t seen FM but NDD was around at happy hour as was IVG.
maybe it will cause him to pass out and then we can ditch him. He looks like a drinker …
don’t you know it’s Loyalty Oath Day?…May Poles are so passe.
and friendly. I’m just offering him a drink. 🙂
If you’re talking about that hideous creature up thread, get him good and drunk Mary. Then we can push him off the wagon and let the horses drag him very far, very hard and very fast! Hopefully leaving some vital organs on the road for the vultures to pick at…
you’re always so descriptive IVG … 🙂
Hey there O!
Must come from all those years of reading about the French Revolution and other such frolics in the park. Though actually, that particular comment seems to have sprung from the depths of my memories of Flaubert’s Salammbô or perhaps Perfume (which I hear they’re finally making into a film… can’t wait).
Frog stalkers around tonight huh? Howya doin dada?
I’ll get out the nice glasses, Mary, you and dada and I can slink into the corner and be antisocial whisky drinkers! Just don’t let me know where ya keep the really good stuff or you’re in trouble. 🙂
for dada, but maybe he prefers this

Looks good to me! As long as it’s not Cutty Sark! Why on earth is that nasty stuff so expensive? I’ve never understood that.
You have such refined tastes, Mary … must come from all those years of schmoozing annoying clients, huh?
my mother brought me up to be a refined lady. I’m glad you noticed. So many people here don’t seem to notice … wonder why?
I’m not wild about Cutty Sark myself.
even if you’re not a true Southern belle… just simply belle. (Hoping your French is up for that obtuse one.)
Yeah, Cutty Sark was the first scotch I ever tried, because it was expensive and I thought it must be good. Blechhh… put me off the stuff almost for good until someone turned me on to the good stuff.
merci.
I can’t find the good scotch behind the bar. I think ej must have hidden it. Damn him. 🙂
I’ll make a mental note to flog him when he shows up. I’ve already filed my signing statement, so I should be on the clear with that one! hehe… 750??? Holy Crap.
or maybe Holy Chihuahua ?
Let’s see if the magic incantation works tonight! I sure hope so.
usually is sure fire. But who knows?
I want to hear about his day and evening.
We sprayed THIS cafe for spiders just for him.
Me too.. I stopped by the eegee spot earlier today to see if there were any new posts and there weren’t. But I suspect he was kind of busy. Got yerself a new avatar…the other pup’s gonna be jealous unless you do equal time…the perils of multiple critters.
Yeah, I know, but Pepa is far more jealous than Rolly, and is more likely to actually notice and give me hell about it. You’re right though, I should do equal time, but chances are, I’ll icon-ize a cool flower soon and they’ll have to vacation in the back yard. I ain’t proud. Brown liquor in a dirty glass…
you require a glass. Swigging right out of the bottle doesn’t suit my ladylike reputation.
Or as Billmon would say, Free thinking in a dirty glass.
What’s shakin’?
Live entertainment? That’s a new thought.
Not a bad idea at all… we could even do karaoke or open mic stand up night…
or maybe, on second thought, maybe not. Karaoke is sooo 20th century.
danceathon
Hey there tammrak! I’ll leave the booty shakin to you… it’s been a long day and I don’t even think I could begin to dance, unless maybe somebody put on some Funkadelic. hehe
but I can’t see ’em…
Me or ?

I could see them before …
too much to drink you think?
the invisible ruler of the cafe came in and deleted the pictures?
Omir?
Or was the weather not so cooperative today?
the entire site, inclu. house is 50′ X 75′..it’s pretty dense tho. I did very little last year because we were coming out of a drought and everything was already stressed…I’m paying for it this year.

so proud of you if he were with us now.

That’s a lot of yard waste for 1/3rd.
So what would it take to convince you to take some pix of your garden w/ the perennials etc.? 🙂
Yeah! What the sage of Ottawa says!!
or at minimum, a very good summer. It’s in dismal shape right now. Lots of winter kill this year…a lot of stuff is not coming back very well.
It’s an ongoing venture, or perhaps adventure…esp w/ such a short growing season…15 May to 15 Sept is all you can count on.
Well, I guess you’re off the hook — as long as we get to see some of your other photos then … 🙂
They went “poof!” before my very eyes as well. And I thought it was just me. Ok, I’m ready for another round of drinks then… it wasn’t the whisky.
taken last summer… I think? OH well, whenever, it always looks like this, but usually minus the hand.

Lovely! Bet it looks stunning tucked behind the ear.
You better have big ears, hon. Those flowers are the size of dinner plates!
…but usually minus the hand. Pretty IVG.
Hmmm… what’s gotten into me tonight? You’ve got me wondering about myself, Olivia! And Halloween is still months away …
I just read the last lounge thread and refuse to enter the cafe until my friend has completed the annihilation of any remaining many-legged creatures (human beings and marmots excluded).
did you scream like a girl?
a frayed knot. Although I did almost drop my laptop. I wonder how much the postage would cost to send Second Nature a…..present?
it would be worth whatever it cost!

(pssst… Mary! it worked.)
but shhhhhh I can’t use it that often. Or the magic will go away.
I had to read upthread to see what you were talking about, apparently the incantation works on a spiritual level and I have no power to resist it.
