Make me jealous, will ya CG? Only 54 here now, but dada says that’s a heat wave. About to head out with some laundry and get some diggin done here. Lots of new plants to start getting in, as well as thousands of seeds.
Hope CBtY has a better day. Didn’t get to tell you the other night (since I came in late) how much your story cracked me up. Oh, the vicissitudes of youth!
Thanks, IVG. I alternate between laughing at the whole thing (not in front of CBtY, mind you) and feeling so horrible for the hard lesson he’s learning…
If it’s sunny it might be time to tackle the deck and get ready for barbecue season. We cook on the grill on hot summer nights when no one wants to spend time in the house and it’s thoroughly acceptable to use paper plates (hey, they’re biodegradable, right?).
After spending the past three days with my sixth graders at camp, I’m going to enjoy quiet, sleep, adult beverages, vegetables, my bed, my bedmates, and my bicycle (I hope.) .
I’m going to miss silly songs, corny skits, watching kids lose their isolating shells and connect to each other and the natural world, collaborating with some talented teachers at a wonderful outdoor education center, only thinking of a bush as a part of the real world, and seeing kids connect things we did in the classroom back in the fall to something we did out in the woods and be surprised by their insight.
Well since I already have my full armor suit on for SN, I was going to add that Andi should pamper you the whole weekend. You know, the anything hubby wants thing.
But, since I know since full armor and hiding under the bed won’t protect me from both of them, I decided not to say it.
Actually my daughter needs to do 25 hours of “community service” as a school requirement, so she chose to work with a local horse therapy place, mucking out stables and grooming horses. So, I guess I’ll bring that book and hang out while she works.
In good news though the school is completely coming around to having a 9 year old in high school. Her Algebra, Honors Chem and Honors English teachers are talking about her with the fervor of the newly converted. This means that the next child who needs to be advanced will be welcomed, and the parents believed. We are Pavers of the Path!
So the family is going to celebrate everything by spending the entire evening watching bad reruns of Andromeda. And, since our last name is Goss, I’ll get to tease the hubby about resigning his job without running it by me first.
I have a poem I wrote last night. Basically, it’s about 20 lines of doggerel with a more-or-less serious purpose. I’ll look at it later today and do some editing and revising, and then my question is: Should I post it here in the Cafe where people will appreciate it and shower me with fours, but it won’t get much play elsewhere, or should I make a diary of it, seeing as how it’s something I would like to have seen by everyone here for reasons that will be clear when I post it?
for that Kahlua cake recipe that the Cabin boys love so much since someone’s B-day is the 9th. He was being all pouty last night about it when I asked him what kind of cake he wanted. I guess getting old sucks! He perked up a bit when I mentioned your cake. Maybe I can talk you into putting the recipe up in the Cafe though and let them all eat cake!
Thank you kindly. Poems like these are just sort of a wild talent. I’ll be doing something else (in last night’s case, hurting and sleeping) and in idea will pop into my head, and hopefully it sticks around long enough to get written down and edited and rewritten and posted someplace before it goes away.
I just wish I could get it to work on command, especially with political songs. Guys like Roy Zimmerman are a lot better at that sort of thing than I am.
Kansas City. I got to meet MaryB in St. Louis! She is just as smart and funny in person as she is here. I wish you all could have the same good fortune to spend time with her.
What sad news about Buster. I’m so sorry to hear that.
You all take care of yourselves. I’m off to Arkansas tomorrow.
supposed to tell you what we talked about until we were all in the cafe together. Although I guess she didn’t really TELL you what we specifically talked about.
oh yeah. As I suspected she’s over at Atrios’ so much more than me. I knew he liked her better π But I told her I was thinking I liked Armando’s new place π
Hi Kansas. Hope you’re having a great time and I wish I could have been at lunch with you and Mary.
But then again, I’m not sure I’d know how to act in one of those elegant St. Louis eateries. Do you have to stuff your napkin in front of your shirt or put it on your lap. Always get that wrong.
The reason I asked is because part of my youth was growing up in the eastern part of Arkansas, near the Mississippi River. If you were going to my part I’d say forget the napkin and just wear a long sleve shirt. Use the back of your arm as a napkin.

Never made it to Delaware on Tuesday, but going down next tuesday fer sure.
Just got out of a hella long day finalizing a proposal, then ran all over center square racing against time (a 5 PM deadline) because the morons at OESS gave us the wrong delivery address.
that said, i am now happile listening to the polka party on wrdv 107.3 fm, and in a half hour the country gold classics show comes on.
building a deck in my back yard tomorrow. will invite philly area DL’ers when it’s done.

No gardening done here today, but lots of laundry and major basement and porch clean up. Ahhhh….
Well, I got your lines crossed with mine I guess, LOL. Glad to see you here, anyway! Too bad I have to scoot now, so I can catch KO in 10 minutes and find something to eat after a long day of cleaning. Probably catch you later, if I can stay awake late tonight, hehe.
I looked at your site today and I like the color combination you’re going with now. Much easier to read on my work computer. Although I guess that means I have to do more now than look at the pretty pictures π
It’s about 80 degrees and sunny here…I’m pretending it’s summer already!
Make me jealous, will ya CG? Only 54 here now, but dada says that’s a heat wave. About to head out with some laundry and get some diggin done here. Lots of new plants to start getting in, as well as thousands of seeds.

Enjoy your day, and thx for the new cafe!
Thanks, IVG. I alternate between laughing at the whole thing (not in front of CBtY, mind you) and feeling so horrible for the hard lesson he’s learning…
If it’s raining out I’m staying in. A-gain.
If it’s sunny it might be time to tackle the deck and get ready for barbecue season. We cook on the grill on hot summer nights when no one wants to spend time in the house and it’s thoroughly acceptable to use paper plates (hey, they’re biodegradable, right?).
Barbecue season…my favorite!
The best thing about The South™ is barbeque season lasts all year.
What am I doing this weekend? Inspired by Dammit Janet, I am attending my first Code Pink meeting.
Good for you Kahli.
That’s great, Kahli!
Sounds like you had a wonderful time Jim and good to have you back.
You deserve some serious slack time this weekend.
To both your comments: and then some.
Well since I already have my full armor suit on for SN, I was going to add that Andi should pamper you the whole weekend. You know, the anything hubby wants thing.
But, since I know since full armor and hiding under the bed won’t protect me from both of them, I decided not to say it.
I think I’m starting to understand why you’re divorced.
I said I was going to say it, but didn’t.
and I’m supposed to pamper him? So if he has a bad day, do I throw him out of the house? Just wonderin’
Whoever wrote that above as Family Man is an impostor! Someone must have hijacked my sign in.
Geez the extent some people will go to get others into trouble.
Sound plausible?
Don’t look now, but I think it was your mother. She may look like an 80 year old who’s afraid of computers but when you’re napping…
I’ll go with that one. Yep it sounds good to me.
I’m going to have to have a talk with Mom.
I don’t know where you ever got the idea that I was so vicious. I’ve always been a very forgiving person.
I have a feeling I’ve dug myself into a hole I can’t get out of.
But just to say, Andi you are the kindest, sweetest and most forgiving person I’ve ever known.
And in closing, PLEASE DON’T CHOP MY HEAD OFF.
Hi Olivia. I’m trying. I’m doing a lot of back peddling right now.
How was your day?
Look at all the exercise that peddling is giving you.
I’ve done enough peddling to want to take a nap now.
See ya’ll in awhile.
You have one option at this point.
Start talking about dogs.
Heh. And they thought all they were doing was having fun.
Ain’t it cool.
Can you be my sons’ teacher? Please?
That’s sweet in the old fashioned not the current sense of the word.
Me? A book of verses underneath a bough…
Actually my daughter needs to do 25 hours of “community service” as a school requirement, so she chose to work with a local horse therapy place, mucking out stables and grooming horses. So, I guess I’ll bring that book and hang out while she works.

What to do, what to do, what to do.
and post the link in the Cafe so we can shower you with recommends… π
Brilliant idea Cali. Yea Omir, what Cali said.
I’ll third that idea!
and ‘pimp’ it in the cafe and open threads…my 2¢…:{)
And what dada said. π

Yes, please do. It’s that time of the month again. Cake, followed by dill pickle flavored Lay’s.
I’ll be right over!
Hmm, can I join the party even if I don’t have the same problem?
I’ll post the recipe, but I think it’ll have to wait until I get back home a little later this afternoon, because I think it’s on my other computer.
and be mistaken for virtuous!
I hope by time of the month you mean time to try a new cake, time to try a new flavored potato chip, but please god not the time I think you mean.
If so, I’ll be back next week sometime. π
Get out your football helmet and stay for the fireworks.
I’ve gone past football helmet and gone to full body armour.
Be afraid, FM, be very afraid.
I am, I’ve got all the armor on and I’m hiding under the bed. Which I might add is very difficult to do.
Especially at our (your) age, right?
Ah ha! You’re trying to bait me into saying something smart so you can battle axe my head in.
So, I’ll just say, yes mam your right, us old geezers have a hard time protecting ourselves during the Perseid Meteor Showers.
Please come take a look at my diary: Saying Goodbye. Written for someone most of us know a lot about but have never met, and now sadly never will.
Done and did Omir. It is a wonderful tribute.
Thank you kindly. Poems like these are just sort of a wild talent. What sad news about Buster. I’m so sorry to hear that.
You all take care of yourselves. I’m off to Arkansas tomorrow.
the exact same thing about you. I’m jealous of you both.
We talked about you. Heh heh.
You were that desperate for something to talk about? Dear, dear.
I would love to be a fly on the wall during these little gatherings.
Heh. Word is you’re having your own little gatherings this summer… π
What “word”? I’ve never been the source of “word” before.
Um, rumor?
Sorry, I had few orange blossom martinis after dealing with nightmare traffic this afternoon….
Orange blossom martinis sound delicious. Except for the martini part.
I think having 1 more would have been about perfect. π
What’s in that concoction you’re drinking? No vodka, I hope…?
They had orange nectar, ohranj Stoli, and Cointreau. Not sweet, either. They were great.
I just have an aversion to vodka, that’s all. And martini for me is by definition made with gin. Yeah, I’m on of those pissy purists, hehe.
I want to know what everybody looks like and sounds like so I can see how bad my mental pictures were.
Not going for the fly on the wall though — my luck the place would have a bug zapper.
Or a lizard with a 12 inch tongue and a big appetite.
As FM would say, I’m not touching that line.
It’s enough to just think it.
And we all thought it, didn’t we?
Hey do you know the one about the 12″ pianist?
supposed to tell you what we talked about until we were all in the cafe together. Although I guess she didn’t really TELL you what we specifically talked about.
you compared notes on quickies but now that you’ve produced that very lawerly sentence, I’ll have to try and pick out all the subtleties.
oh yeah. As I suspected she’s over at Atrios’ so much more than me. I knew he liked her better π But I told her I was thinking I liked Armando’s new place π
C’mon, who’d you talk about? I won’t tell anyone?
Atrios, Markos, Armando, charles Krauthammer, George Bush, Dick Cheney, her publisher, … it was a very eclectic conversation
and try to weasel it out of her over there.
Hi Kansas. Hope you’re having a great time and I wish I could have been at lunch with you and Mary.
But then again, I’m not sure I’d know how to act in one of those elegant St. Louis eateries. Do you have to stuff your napkin in front of your shirt or put it on your lap. Always get that wrong.

Eureka Springs.
Napkin?

Wow, gorgeous gardens AND an excellent music collection!
Why thank ya, mizz CG … we’re just a couple of un-rehabilitated weirdo eclectoids when it comes to music and film (and the garden too, LOL)
What’re you drinking tonight?
I saw that you picked up some trilliums. Red ones too. π Can’t wait for pix.
Btw, I survived my Quebec meeting … (hehe)
Hello all!
I think this is the first friday night I’ve made it to in a couple of months.
And that you’ve survived your Friday intact! Now let’s line em up for Mary… she’s had a rough week. π
but actually this was a great week. Especially compared to the last three. But I’ll take the lineup anyway.
Well, if you’re here, I can it’s time for Happy Hour!
