.
I have been busy yesterday in the garden, with beautiful sunny weather. Forgive me for not posting many comments, however I have been reading some excellent diaries here at BooMan!
Boo is in our thoughts, as you mentioned the Newfoundland is very special dog, take care Martin.
Hey, it's The Hague! We don't have the space of good old U.S.A.
So true, so true.
curly will be out of town this weekend – I’ll entertain myself by going to the kos-meet that JaneKnowles is putting together since mcjoan is in town (as is Armando).
But first; getting through Friday.
She’s feeling better. Won’t stop me from worrying, though. Between her health and the vagaries of an 1700 mile drive, my worryworst tendencies will be working full time.
They aren’t planning to hurry but they aren’t going to make a vacation out of it. Indy is planning on enjoying her passenger seat view of New Mexico and Colorado.
I just mean this morning — I think it has something to do with being woken at 4:00 a.m. by the dogs howling (Giddy with her wolf heritage can stretch the howl out for an impressively long time).
Had a breakfast meeting with a social worker and psychological case manager this morning at Dunkin Donuts. Very official place. And I can’t believe how much I’ve missed those chocolate frosted donuts there since mostly what they have in the south™ is Krispy Kremes which are way too sweet and gooey. But the coffee sucks.
This is where the social worker, who has steadfastly refused to return my phone calls and emails, assured me she has been working feverishly behind the scenes and not blowing me off. Apparently her behind the scenes work is so secret no one else knew about it. Yeah.
Maybe just a little bit. At one point she said she’d always had really good experience with GALs and I said ‘until me’…which kind of hovered over the table for about 20 uncomfortable seconds while we all pondered it’s possible meanings.
Have I taught you nothing? Turn on you vacuum and then turn it off. Vacuuming done. Take the clothes to the washer and think about washing them. Enough done. After all of that it’s slack time.
LOL… I think the dogs are better trained in slacking than I. They’re snoozing on the futon couch in here as I have my cuppa joe right now. I do plan to take it easy and accomplish a few things today, but truthfully, planting seeds and plants falls under my rubric of slacking … I know, it’s not in your syllabus, but I have to personalize mine somewhat, with your guidance.
sorry for the delay, I was outside in our complex’ courtyard watching 7th and 8th grade students practice/erform folkorico and other presentations for the fiesta this evening. They did such a good job.
Happy Friday and Cinco de mayo! Ah, hope you’re taking it easy today and have great festivities planned for later Manny. Love the t-shirt … but just wondering why the ü is red? Maybe I haven’t had enough coffee yet to grasp the subtlety, hehe.
How’s everyone else doing? Glad to see the regular crowd back in fine form as I am enjoying my day away from work today. Hope to do lots of gardening later, but it’s still cloudy and a bit chilly (51) here at this point.
Just wanted to let you know we went plant shopping after work last night and two of the things we found were Red Trilliums! Thx for bringing those to my attention … we’re very excited to introduce those to our “Woodland” part of the garden. They were cheap too, only $2.99 and good sized plants.
Hope to catch you later. I should be ambling off to start some laundry myself … and catch up on the news and a few diaries as well. But will check back here frequently.
Just popped by to say good morning/afternoon! I’m going for a hike in Placerita Canyon so see if I can find any “subjects up there.” LOL!!! See you when I get back!
Hey there MM! Sounds like a fun day… I’m just waiting for it warm up a bit more here so I can get out do some garden stuff. Hope you find some cool stuff to shoot, hehe. Hope to catch you later and see what you found.
Looks like the price went up a little, not surprising, since apparently so did the weight. I may be mistaken on this, but somehow I can’t believe that a T-shirt is going to weigh as much as this one does, no matter how heavy the cotton is.
Apparently Smirky is going to announce a personnel change at 5 PM. Do you think he knows something about Rove and Fitz? Or could it be Rummy who’s had such a hard time keeping track of all of his public lies. Or Cheney? I’m not exactly holding my breath, but it is Friday evening and they do like to announce bad news on Friday evening.
Yeah, don’t hold your breath SN… blue skin wouldn’t look good on you. 🙂 I have the same attitude myself these days … but thx for the tip. I’ll make an effort to pay attention then for at least a few minutes.
Sure wish it would get above 54 here today! I want to get outside and get digging!
I can’t dig down more than an inch anywhere in my yard. Between red clay, rocks and roots everywhere I give up after 5 minutes of sweating and swearing and slapping at biting insects.
Sorry to hear that, SN… is your red clay like that awful stuff they have down in GA? If so, you truly have my sympathies there. I’d be at a loss as to figure out how to begin to garden in that stuff.
re: biting bugs… Have you ever tried that Cutter “Bug Free Backyard” spray? It works wonders, and we just used it the other night to kill off the 1st crop of mosquitoes. You just hook the bottle up to your garden hose, spray everything (including foundations and base of house) and let it dry. Lasts up to a month, even with rain. Only thing is… you have to keep pets off it for at least 2 hrs or until it dries.
I’ll try that spray. I hate to apply anything to my skin, so most of the summer I just hide indoors. Between the suffocating heat and the bugs I don’t venture out again until October.
and this is the only sort of pesticide stuff we will use, and we started grudgingly at first. But we’ve used it for 4 yrs now and swear by it. Costs about 6.50 at Target, and depending on the size of your yard, you can get as many as 2-3 applications from one bottle. I do recommend that if you use it, do it right before or after sunset, as it will kill bees if they’re active. So we wait until the bees have gone for the night before we spray it. Just read the label carefully if/when you use it.
About that clay… soooo sorry to hear that. We’re blessed here with that famous IA black loam, which helps tremendously in our efforts to grow beautiful plants.
I’ve used them for years, and if you light one or more, depending on area, about dusk, they’re pretty effective., esp. w/ mosquitos. Of course we really don’t have bugs up here like ya’ll do.
Hey, IVG, just put on a fleece vest and git out there…50°’s a heatwave…:{)
PS: just heard on NPR, that Porter Goss has resigned as c eye a dir…the toll continues.
hey dadadude! Yeah, we also use citronella Tiki Torches, do a native dance and shake lemongrass smudges at them, which also seems to help. Ya gotta make sure you don’t catch the grass skirts on fire though… if only to avoid embarrassment.
Yeah, gonna put some flannel on and buck up here. Just took the dogs out and with the sun, it’s not that bad. Just a bit on the breezy side.
Tiki torches, grass skirts, and lemongrass eh? Got a pig roasting pit too?
And here, all this time, you were trying to convince us the reason the neighbours thought you were a bit daft was on account of your strange taste in flowers..uh huh…:{)
I read a diary about this over on Kos. Apparently Cheney is out of the country so it won’t be him, and there was a diary tomorrow announcing some minor reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Hindenberg again. I don’t expect anything major. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
I don’t think this was covered in the News Bucket today, but it’s good news for all of us who don’t care to keep up with the Joneses next door who are constantly cutting, edging, raking, blowing, fertilizing etc.
A renowned U.S. scientist — who has documented fertility and sex changes, including decreasing penis size, due to environmental contamination — says he wouldn’t apply pesticides on his own lawn.
I’d have liked to seen a little higher in the WH myself, but I’ll settle for Goss. I’ve hated that scumbag for years, ever since my stint of “existing” in FL. He was a nasty rep from there and hasn’t improved one whit with age. Thx for the tippage, Omir.
Have to admit I’m of two minds on most Cinco de Mayo observances — too many folks turn it into a “Mexican St. Patrick’s Day” and make it an excuse to go out and get drunk and destructive.
That said, the spouse and I are going out for Mexican food this evening — not going to be able to get over to East San Jose or up to SF’s Mission District unfortunately for the Real Thing.
A bit down today — the Status Quo is making me crazy… 🙁
I’d heard for so long that Cinco de Mayo was Mexico’s version of Independence Day that I was surprised to learn that, basically, it was more or less invented by beer companies to sell more beer. Oh sure, there’s a Battle of Puebla, but I’ve read reports that Mexicans who come north look at our version of Cinco de Mayo and wonder why we’re making such a big fuss over what (as far as I can remember) has more or less the same cultural significance in Mexico as Flag Day does here.
Good morning, Andi.
I won’t ask how you are because I’m pretty sure I know. I hope Carnacki’s diary is giving you some peace.
I’m okay. I’ll be okay.
(((BooMan and Buster)))
Yes, big hugs to the Boomen.

▼ ▼ ▼ MY DIARY
Good morning everyone.
TGIF, indeed.
Hi ask.
I’m ready for the weekend. I’m always ready for the weekend and never ready for Monday.
So true, so true.
curly will be out of town this weekend – I’ll entertain myself by going to the kos-meet that JaneKnowles is putting together since mcjoan is in town (as is Armando).
But first; getting through Friday.
That sounds cool. I’m looking forward to CBtY getting a break from the teasing at school for 2 days.
And of course, another lacrosse game on Saturday. 🙂
He’s been hearing it, I guess. Hope he found some comfort in the various testimonials.
And go easy on the other team this week…
The eyebrow stories did make him laugh…and I think the pther team will provide him with the perfect outlet for the frustrations of the week. 🙂
I just want to strangle kids when they’re so mean.
And they don’t let up all day. I feel really bad for him.
Tell them to get some new material – the eyebrow thing is sooo yesterday.
Just got email from Indy. The movers are arriving and they are leaving for their move to Ohio in an hour.
Woo-Hoo! How’s her sore throat? Is she better?
She’s feeling better. Won’t stop me from worrying, though. Between her health and the vagaries of an 1700 mile drive, my worryworst tendencies will be working full time.
Do they have to blast through the drive as quickly as possible, or are they taking some time to enjoy it?
(((AndiF and her mother-henning)))
They aren’t planning to hurry but they aren’t going to make a vacation out of it. Indy is planning on enjoying her passenger seat view of New Mexico and Colorado.
Good morning everyone.
Is this Friday or Saturday?
What is the name of this cafe and who is buried in grant’s tomb?
Good morning to you.
I knew I should have opened my eyes before I started typing.
Anyway I hate those trick questions. 🙂
I just mean this morning — I think it has something to do with being woken at 4:00 a.m. by the dogs howling (Giddy with her wolf heritage can stretch the howl out for an impressively long time).
Being woken up at 4:00 am will always get your day started right.
Now if you had George you wouldn’t have to put up with the howls. Just incessant yapping.
Totally breaking my lurk-only rule to say hi because I’m bored and its Friday and I can’t find my ATM card 🙁
Is it happy hour yet? I could use a Cinco de Mayo margarita.
Hi Mary. I’m glad you de-lurked. Can’t find your ATM card? That’s not good.
It’s probably at home in the pocket of something I wore this week. I hope. I’m sure it is. 🙁
I’m sure it is. I misplace stuff constantly and I’ve gotten past being surprised where I find it.
I could not live even one day without my ATM card. What a tragedy.
I know what you mean. If I ever get one, I’m sure I couldn’t live without it.
I know, it’s a tragedy AND a pain in the neck.
Now I have to borrow money for lunch because we’re going to this little chinese place that doesn’t take credit. <sigh>
What a mooch. I guess it’s time to look for a real job where you can afford to go out to lunch.
I almost never have cash any more. Which is a good and bad thing – bad because I can’t see the cash leaving my hand.
and want a margarita, this should help with both.
This reminds me of Amazon (Oregon?) Trail. I expect to get the ‘you have died of dysentery’ message at any moment.
I can’t see it. not even the little box with an x.
Wonder what the deal is lately. Some pictures I see just fine.
You can’t see it Mary? It’s the most wonderous, beautiful picture I’ve ever seen, and you can’t see it. To bad.
Damn. I should have thought about that. It’s a map to the perfect margarita.
Not sure it’s worth the effort and don’t know if this will work but here’s a link.
again — to tell you that the map has now suddenly been made visible to me. Weird.
But thanks!
too bad the map didn’t also lead to your atm card.
Yeah.
I take it you didn’t punch her out?
No but I exchanged some pointed glances with the other guy who has problems with the social worker too.
Well SN, what other recourse do you have? I can see you’re trying to work through the system, but the system isn’t working.
Write letters to the editor or set up a tent by her desk. I don’t know.
Don’t you hate it when some social workers seem to forget they’re dealing with the real lives of real children? That would make me crazy.
Yes, and then she overcompensates by totally monopolizing the meeting to show us just how with it she is. She’s a tough old bird – ex-cop.
ignored your inner good manners angel and were appropriately snarky with her.
Maybe just a little bit. At one point she said she’d always had really good experience with GALs and I said ‘until me’…which kind of hovered over the table for about 20 uncomfortable seconds while we all pondered it’s possible meanings.
Good for you.
Maybe you should have tried the ‘we Gals’ approach. Tell her we Gals ought to start working together. Now get off you fat ass and get the job done.
Don’t think that would be to subtle do you?
I like that! Why can’t I ever think of clever things to say until much much later?
I thought what you did say was great.
I’m wearing my favorite tshirt today in honor of Cinco de Mayo.
Morning Manny.
Glad to see you back and slackin properly, FM. I keep chasing the ghost of your departure at night lately. How are you and George doing?
Hi IVG. We have been missing each other. I’m doing fine now. Just getting over one of those pesky migraines. I saw you’ve got a day off. Good for you.
Now you know the what to do on a day off. Do I even need to say it?
Have I taught you nothing? Turn on you vacuum and then turn it off. Vacuuming done. Take the clothes to the washer and think about washing them. Enough done. After all of that it’s slack time.
LOL… I think the dogs are better trained in slacking than I. They’re snoozing on the futon couch in here as I have my cuppa joe right now. I do plan to take it easy and accomplish a few things today, but truthfully, planting seeds and plants falls under my rubric of slacking … I know, it’s not in your syllabus, but I have to personalize mine somewhat, with your guidance.
You are learning well. Slacking is doing what you enjoy the most. Mine happens to be naps. Other people enjoy work (hate to use that word).
However you decide to slack, enjoy yourself.
sorry for the delay, I was outside in our complex’ courtyard watching 7th and 8th grade students practice/erform folkorico and other presentations for the fiesta this evening. They did such a good job.

just a marketing thing. The first time I wore that shirt it was clear that it would usher in some potent mojo. I can use all the help I can get :-X
I’m stepping out for a bit, but will post the afternoon cafe when I get back…
Just wanted to let you know we went plant shopping after work last night and two of the things we found were Red Trilliums! Thx for bringing those to my attention … we’re very excited to introduce those to our “Woodland” part of the garden. They were cheap too, only $2.99 and good sized plants.
but here’s as good as place as any.
I’ll be looking forward to pictures of them gracing your lovely garden — especially since they’ll be a lot easier to find.
I’m off to get the house straightened up or take a nap.
I’ll check back in later.

Having you around during the day fools me into thinking it’s a weekend (’cause everything is about me, me, me).
I’m wearing my festive Fitzmas T-shirt.
Looks like the price went up a little, not surprising, since apparently so did the weight. I may be mistaken on this, but somehow I can’t believe that a T-shirt is going to weigh as much as this one does, no matter how heavy the cotton is.
Hey there Omir! You sound stylin there … how are you feeling today? Better, I hope.
Yeah, I’m feeling a little better although it might be time for some more ibuprofen here in a few minutes.
Apparently Smirky is going to announce a personnel change at 5 PM. Do you think he knows something about Rove and Fitz? Or could it be Rummy who’s had such a hard time keeping track of all of his public lies. Or Cheney? maybe they just want to give lefties a happy start to the weekend.
I’m sure that’s it. Always looking out for the lefties.
Yeah, don’t hold your breath SN… blue skin wouldn’t look good on you. 🙂 I have the same attitude myself these days … but thx for the tip. I’ll make an effort to pay attention then for at least a few minutes.

Going overland to Canada would be a lot easier than trying to tunnel your way to the Antipodes, y’know.
I read a diary about this over on Kos. Apparently Cheney is out of the country so it won’t be him, and there was a diary tomorrow announcing some minor reshuffling of the deck chairs on the Hindenberg again. I don’t expect anything major. I hope to be pleasantly surprised.

And reeeeealy bad news for most of my neighbors.
Found on the internets late last summer….

Glad to hear it’s a little better today. Hang in there, my friend.
Apparently Porter Goss is this week’s designated victim. Can’t say I’m sorry to see him go.
We now return you to your regular round of snark, innuendo, pooties and potrzebie.
I’d have liked to seen a little higher in the WH myself, but I’ll settle for Goss. I’ve hated that scumbag for years, ever since my stint of “existing” in FL. He was a nasty rep from there and hasn’t improved one whit with age. Thx for the tippage, Omir.
Yeah, I wish it was someone higher up too, but hey, you knock down a wall one brick at a time.
The flip side of that of course is that nothing is really going to change until all of them are gone, gone, gone. Every single last one of them.
There’s a report on Raw Story that says Fitz is going to meet with the judge in the Libby case right about now, but so far that’s pretty much it.
Have to admit I’m of two minds on most Cinco de Mayo observances — too many folks turn it into a “Mexican St. Patrick’s Day” and make it an excuse to go out and get drunk and destructive.
Wiki to the Battle of Puebla
