who’s one of my favorite guitarists, as is Jim Hall, who was/is a great influence to PM, simply entitled, Jim Hall & Pat Metheney c. 2001 Telarc…very, very good IMNSHO, and highly recommended.
If you like that one, check out Hall’s Concierto album from @ 1975…cti label, I think…beautiful; reminds me of Miles’ Sketches of Spain from a few yrs. earlier.
Maybe someday I’ll have time to read books again…tonight, it’s a lovely New England journal article on pediatric pharmacology for me…just 7 more weeks…just 7 more weeks…
I actually don’t know much about it. It came up during an examination by a colorectal surgeon and he said I’ve got a “pelvic floor descending.”
It’s possible that it was caused by my problems with the “metformin effect.” But, I’ve had the symptoms he described for almost 20 years (but when I asked about the pain all the doctors said it was ‘gas’) And I’ve only taken metformin for a year.
So I’ve got appointments set up with a urogynecologist (first apt is a consultation next 2 are for tests.) This is their specialty and I hope to know more about it after talking to them.
I think it usually happens in pregnancy. But, I’ve never been pregnant, so maybe it has something to do with the fibroid tumors that I have had for 20 years or so??
I’m sure it’s not a very happy thing to have to go through a bunch of examinations and tests but if the symptoms of this are something you’ve experienced for a long time, maybe this will help finally resolve them.
I almost forgot to gloat about CBtY’s lacrosse game today!
They won again, 16-5. And I’m sorry, but this time it was really fun watching them wipe the field up with the other team, because the game was in the uber-wealthy school district. You know, Range Rover territory…Bush voters who actually benefit from those stinkin’ tax cuts!
Actually, we’re all kind of stunned at the fact that they’re undefeated. They’re doing WAY better than any of out teams in the other age divisions, too. Today’s game was expected to be the most competitive of the season, and even though the other team fought hard, they couldn’t keep up. By halftime, the score was 12-2.
BTW, some of the boys have been playing for 3 years, and some have just started this spring.
What sucks is that I forgot I still had my camera set on macro and a bunch of them didn’t turn out. That one’s my favorite too and it’s blurry. That’s how I picture Colin though, laughing.
Is it the tradition around there to stay out all night? I have very found memories of playing in the fountain on the circle in Indianapolis at 4:00 a.m.
No mom today — we’re taking her out tomorrow. What’s on your Mother’s Day schedule?
For some odd reason the schools around here don’t sponsor an after prom party like the ones back home do. They’re not sure what they’re doing, they may all end up at one house or another to sleep. All the parents who came to my house tonight were lecturing their kids about drinking (as in, not)and telling them to call when they figured out what they were doing. It was all so casual that if I didn’t trust my son so much I would have been worried.
Mr. Nature flies out to Orlando in the morning and my daughter is home from college and making us dinner tomorrow – and it’s always a treat when someone else cooks for me.
We didn’t have any school-sponsored after prom activities (actually it wasn’t called a prom either — it was the grad dance) but there were all kinds of unofficial ones.
Sounds like a pleasant day. I’m sure you’re also happy to have your daughter home. Is she home for the summer?
My son is having his MFA recital at CalArts tonight. 8 PM PDT. Here is the link to the live web cam for any of you music fans who might want to take a peek. I’m not sure how well this link works, but would love a report back from anyone who tries it. Fingers crossed.
Tomorrow will be fine — it’s just us, my mom, my sister and her husband. I like my family — I just don’t like them in large numbers for extended amounts of time.
Was in a bitchy mood most of the day…but coming home and seeing the lead story on BooTrib definitely changed that! 🙂
I think it was IVG who mentioned the StumbleUpon toolbar for Firefox…bless you dear! Not that I needed any more excuses to goof off on the computer, but I’m having so much fun with that thing.
Came across this little JPEG in my travels:
If DJ comes around, I think she’ll enjoy it… 🙂
Olivia — condolences on the Ottawa defeat…now you can cheer for the Sharks with a clear conscience. 😉 Spouse and I will be at the game tomorrow evening — we’re trying to save our voices till then. lol
I’m not as bummed as I thought I’d be — after seeing them play live last monday I knew it was going down this way. How’s your sil handling the Avs loss?
SIL’s a bit bummed, but I think he’s latched onto the Sharks. That’ll make DJ and Cali happy.
Glad you’re not taking it too hard…it’s just a game, you can’t lose sight of that…there’s always next year and the Sen’s have got a good core lineup if they can hold on to them.
I was upset that I missed the song info … and now — well, forget the song info! LOL. I caught like the first bit … F. Jackson … and then POOF! I’m always getting disconnected during crucial moments!!! 🙂
can’t you get a DSL w/ it? Mine rides on the fax line and costs $15us.mon…I use an independent ISP that’s local folks that I know. No conflict w/ fax, just have to install a filter. With your B you’d really like it, IMNSHO.
haven’t done much for weeks. Have a few shots in the cam that I need to download, and the pro camera store here has a sale on this wkend that I’ve got to go to…mercy!!! I’ll try to limit myself to essentials.
I burn them to CD’s when they get to a certain point…which is very arbitrary, and probably should be more organized. I never clear the memory card until I’ve backed up images, which sorta sets the schedule.
Essentials only…need a new cam bag, need a couple of lens hoods for the dig. and some white cotton gloves for handling negs…really have to get back to scanning…the backlog is building up significantly as I go thru stuff.
I love bags … are you looking for a big one? The one I got w/ the Nikon holds the camera+lens, and 2 extra lenses. It’s a sling bag and it opens on the side so you can rest your camera on it etc. Here’s a link. It’s cool. I can fit all my goodies in there right now b/c I don’t have a lot of stuff. It comes w/ a weather shield too, which came in handy last w/e.
LINK, or something sim. I don’t like back pack style bags, prefer the horizontal flap shoulder style…strictly a personal choice, but more accessible IMO, plus I like the extra pockets for filters, lens cloths, etc.
Always use a hood outside, and haven’t gotten any for the dig yet, plus I need a couple replacements for the film body lenses. I don’t normally like having direct sunlight hitting the lens unless it’s intentional and done for effect…again, a personal style/penchant.
Yes it is. I have two bags now, both becoming pretty worn. I normally only take 1 camera w/ me locally, but want a bag capable of carrying all the equip.
Currently using the film body more than the dig because I’m trying to use up some film; but trying to wean myself off it. That’s, I think, holding up progress, creatively and comfort wise, with the dig…old habits and loves are difficult to part with.
But I do know that you’ll never make the switch if you keep using the old camera — you’re always going to feel more comfortable w/ your ‘first love’ and if you’re comparing it’s not really fair to the dig right. You need to get that same feel for the new one … plus learn all it’s tricks and how it likes to be handled etc…
I was encouraged by the front page articles tonight when I logged in … let’s hope this isn’t just so much smoke being blown up into certain orifices by Leopold and some of these other sources. But #1 story on Yahoo tonight when I started the computer was on Cheney’s handwritten notes, so maybe someone, (them, we hope) is hurtling toward a precipice, set to fall like the WB anvil on a hurtling animal heading for the bottom of the gulch.
How’s everyone (anyone) doing tonight? I was dragged, somewhat against my will, to dinner at a place called Texas Roadhouse tonight for a confab w/Chris’ work pals. Great company, mediocre food, and ghastly TexASS “yee-ha!” ambience. I needed two 1800 margaritas to make it through that.
Was hoping at least you and dada or NDD would be around, since I snoozed a bit earlier after dinner and am not ready to go to bed just yet. It’s funny, because everyone else thought the food was wonderful and I thought it ok, but just mediocre. Everything there from the “Italian” salad dressing, the butter, to the steak sauce was sooo sweet I found it rather blecch. The steak was just ok, but a bit fatty for my tastes. The thing that really had me gagging was that there were purportedly 3 birthdays within 3 tables of us while we there, and they do this awful hokey thing of making the person get up on a wooden horse thingie and bounce up and down while people hoot and holler and stamp their feet. It was sure TexASS tacky, that’s for sure.
We did get up really early and had our stuff taken to the scrub day and back home by 9:30, then had some more coffee and went to Target for a while. Back home, we finished cleaning up the porch and set up the summer “Cabana Room Lounge” this afternoon, since it was drizzly and only made it to 52 (11 C) today. Not much improvement forecast for tomorrow, but I vow that I will get some plants in the ground, if I have to do it in small sessions and come back inside.
I gather that hockey land is not pretty, given what I read in previous cafe. Sorry O! Sorry dada!
I would refuse to sit/bounce on any wooden horses in any public venue.
Good to hear that you got your scrub stuff done. It was cold and rainy here today too — I bought some seeds.
Yeah — bummer on the hockey. I’ve been listening to the local radio station — they’ve got an all night ‘wake’ on right now, and people are wavering between pissed and despondent. It’ll likely go all night into next morning. The city is in a major funk. (And why am I listening to this …?)
Misery loves company? Where are you in the continuum of pissed <—> despondent? You seem pretty chipper for a woman in a city of funk! (Dang, I wish I had Chocolate City ripped on my computer… just have the disc downstairs.)
Oops, forgot… on the way to dinner tonight, I bought 6 more delphiniums, 4 artemisia (Silver mound var.), 6 red columbines and 2 new Knifophias to add to the must be planted list. lol
Chocolate makes everything better. I think I’m about middle in the almost don’t care category but I flutter into the pissed and despondent areas when I think of certain instances that happened or when I heard the post-game media interviews etc.
What can I do for you, o sage o’the Rockies? (btw, have missed you the past few nights)
Remember, commitment can have at least two semantic variations… it could be as in the “I’m committed to X person, thing or cause,” for example, or it could refer to the act of institutionalizing a person as in, “The commitment of Frances Farmer was unjustified and subsequently led to her suicide.”
Well I figure that it won’t work overnight. Directions say to take 3 caps/day for 60 days, then work down, so we’ll see how it goes. Can’t hurt. Chris’ mom also swears by the stuff and she has bad problems with her knees and leg joints.
How un-American of you! That’s almost as bad as my aversion to pies, cakes and ice cream!! I bet you even have a copy of one of them nasty little red books don’t ya? (I used to… lol!)
Something is rather odd, besides slow load time… I couldn’t even get in earlier because I kept getting a “server was reset” message, though I was fine in other diaries. And when I go to roborate, the same thing happens. Only way I can get back in is to go to the end of previous cafe and click on the link to here. Something strange is goin on… who we gonna call?
Wish I had the keys, but I don’t. Maybe when I reach lower echelon leprechaun status…
very long breakfast.
So what CDs did you get? And books?
Looking for a distraction from the game?
CDs:
Karrin Allyson, Footprints
Nanci Griffith, Other Voices, Other Rooms
Charlie Haden & Pat Metheny, Beyond the Missouri Sky
Library Books
My Latest Grievance, Elinor Lipman
Ice, Mariana Gosnell
Veronica, Mary Gaitskill
Alchemist’s Daughter, Katharine McMahon
Kingdom of Lies, Lee Wood
Other Voices, Other Rooms is a great CD, but I haven’t heard the others.
Who needs CD’s? I’ve got Lawrence Welk on PBS right now.
you do
Oh, Bobby and Sissy rock, don’t they?
Karrin Allyson’s is new but the Haden/Metheny is an older CD that we’d kept meaning to get but somehow never did.
who’s one of my favorite guitarists, as is Jim Hall, who was/is a great influence to PM, simply entitled, Jim Hall & Pat Metheney c. 2001 Telarc…very, very good IMNSHO, and highly recommended.
Thanks for the rec — can’t have too much Metheny as far as we’re concerned.
If you like that one, check out Hall’s Concierto album from @ 1975…cti label, I think…beautiful; reminds me of Miles’ Sketches of Spain from a few yrs. earlier.
Peace
Maybe someday I’ll have time to read books again…tonight, it’s a lovely New England journal article on pediatric pharmacology for me…just 7 more weeks…just 7 more weeks…
in your clinical rotations? Won’t they be pretty demanding as well?
Well, yeah, but in a different way. More interactive than studying for exams.
Couldn’t get enough of them. Would read them for fun.
I haven’t heard of any of the music … I’ve liked some of Lipman’s stuff. Alchemist’s Daughter sounds good! (Was just googling. 🙂
I really like Elinor Lipman. I think she’s almost as good as the late and much missed Laurie Colwin.
I especially liked this one. I thought My Latest Grievance was perfect in every way.
I’m glad to hear it, though I wasn’t really worried since she’s never disappointed me.
I asked this in the last cafe but you didn’t ever come back: what’s a falling pelvic floor?
I actually don’t know much about it. It came up during an examination by a colorectal surgeon and he said I’ve got a “pelvic floor descending.”
It’s possible that it was caused by my problems with the “metformin effect.” But, I’ve had the symptoms he described for almost 20 years (but when I asked about the pain all the doctors said it was ‘gas’) And I’ve only taken metformin for a year.

Yes, it’ll be good to know and to do whatever needs to be done. I’m hoping that this can be the year I get everything cleaned up.
about how we were planning to have our septic field worked on this summer but I decided that was too tacky even for me. 😉
🙂
cute — even for you!
I thought that was from pregnancy too, but it sounds possible about the fibroids. My pelvic floor is actually in the the sub-basement now.
I just looked it up and large fibroids are indeed a culprit.
Well, I’m pretty much done with them. Maybe this summer.
Yes, I was concerned that whoever had been around in midday had made such a brouhaha that the midday Cafe had been deleted!
Do you take your camera and take pictures as the games?
I usually don’t because I want to watch the game. BUt since you’re the second person to mention that this week, I might have to rethink it.
Jim often goes to the kid’s basketball games, track and cross country meets and takes pictures. The kids love seeing them.
And I was thinking it would be fun for you to use the pics for some of your friday cafes.
Was this year’s level of success expected? (By that I mean, has the team been playing together for some time etc.)

Very handsome fella there, SN.
A freak of nature – or they switched babies in the hospital. I covet his date’s hipbones. I remember hipbones.
I love the color of her dress. Hipbones? What are those?
I was surprised that two of the girls wore shades of green. For the past 5 years all of the girls wore black. It was getting depressing.
Sometimes when I lay down and hold my breath I can still locate my hipbones.
Hey proud mama, that’s definitely a good-looking fella you raised (the third picture is without a doubt a full-fledged keeper).
What sucks is that I forgot I still had my camera set on macro and a bunch of them didn’t turn out. That one’s my favorite too and it’s blurry. That’s how I picture Colin though, laughing.
But he’s in focus so who cares if she’s a little blurry.
Damn straight! Are you sure you’re not a mother?
Must be from all that mother hen-ing she does… 🙂
or from hanging out with a bunch of mothers.
Do you mean that in a good way, or like ‘mutha’?
It’s quite conceivable that I mean both.
Was the prom tonight?
Yeah, from 9 to midnight. Perfect weather for it.
Did you have lunch with your mom today?
Is it the tradition around there to stay out all night? I have very found memories of playing in the fountain on the circle in Indianapolis at 4:00 a.m.
No mom today — we’re taking her out tomorrow. What’s on your Mother’s Day schedule?

so I could check it out. I hope it all goes wonderfully.
I tried the link but there’s no way I’ll be able to watch w/ dialup. Let us know how it goes though! Sending best wishes!
I’m glad to see you could dig yourself out from under the chocolate and tv post-mortems and come visiting.
Yeah. Bunch of bums … grrrr …
Looks like a quiet night though.
Maryb obviously has magnetic appeal.
And I’m probably going to sign off in a little bit. I lack your amazingly ability to stay up till the next morning (now there’s an understatement).
Have a good night. I lack the ability to get up as early as you — we all have our talents I guess. 🙂 Try to have fun tomorrow at the lunch.
Tomorrow will be fine — it’s just us, my mom, my sister and her husband. I like my family — I just don’t like them in large numbers for extended amounts of time.
I hear ya! Well, have fun then. I’m sure your mom is looking forward to see you all.
going to bed. Night Olivia.
😉 Spouse and I will be at the game tomorrow evening — we’re trying to save our voices till then. lol
Okay, time for more Internet adventures… 🙂
Just sitting in my chair trying to get up the energy to go to bed. Thought I’d stop in and wish the evening crowd a happy day.
Hope you’re having a great w/e … It’s pretty slow here in cafeland tonight.
So … we’re both out of it now …
How’s things w/ you. (I sent you an email btw.)
for you…sorry. :{(
I’ll go look, be right back.
I’m not as bummed as I thought I’d be — after seeing them play live last monday I knew it was going down this way. How’s your sil handling the Avs loss?
So what’s new with you and Bu?
SIL’s a bit bummed, but I think he’s latched onto the Sharks. That’ll make DJ and Cali happy.
Glad you’re not taking it too hard…it’s just a game, you can’t lose sight of that…there’s always next year and the Sen’s have got a good core lineup if they can hold on to them.
Yeah, the Sharks are our only hope for vicarious stanley love. And that’s the sens motto, there’s always next year. 😛
you mean you missed my mellifluous FM persona?…now I’m really bummed…:{)
I was upset that I missed the song info … and now — well, forget the song info! LOL. I caught like the first bit … F. Jackson … and then POOF! I’m always getting disconnected during crucial moments!!! 🙂
can’t you get a DSL w/ it? Mine rides on the fax line and costs $15us.mon…I use an independent ISP that’s local folks that I know. No conflict w/ fax, just have to install a filter. With your B you’d really like it, IMNSHO.
Laziness … combined w/ procrastination. That’s a bad mix 🙂
procrastinator…perhaps. :{)
I blew off all my tasks and even napped this afternoon… 🙂
Have you ever heard of Lomograhpy?
Fish-eye lenses…kind of a fad, at least up here, in the mid-late 70’s…fun but rather trite, IMO…phototog snob. :{)
yes, I was trying to figure out the allure — there’s group on flickr. Are you saying you’re a photog snob?
cheap thrills, IMO…but whatever turns their crank…:{) I take my work a bit more seriously, avocation or not, as, I think, do you.
So any new news on ‘your work’ or has life been too busy?
haven’t done much for weeks. Have a few shots in the cam that I need to download, and the pro camera store here has a sale on this wkend that I’ve got to go to…mercy!!! I’ll try to limit myself to essentials.
how do you store your dig photos? Do you make prints of the ones you really like or just have e-file? I can see it quickly getting out of hand.
What essentials are you looking at getting … or are you just looking?
if ya haven’t done, go read THIS…Billmon’s all over it…remember: the media is the message.
Peace
I burn them to CD’s when they get to a certain point…which is very arbitrary, and probably should be more organized. I never clear the memory card until I’ve backed up images, which sorta sets the schedule.

guess I’m I’m just another chauvinistic ‘camera’ pig.
And you’re right, I need to make a commitment…I didn’t really say that, did I? Oh, the shame…:{)
The c-pig thing wrt your camera. 😉
What is it w/ you guys and commitment … just think of the fine relationship you could have if you put your all into the it. 🙂
And maybe you should not buy anything else for your old camera, and that way you’ll be more excited about using your new one…?
but it can’t dance and doesn’t have freckles…:{)
… sometimes there’s no accounting for taste … 😛

help us out, we’re fadin’ fast…O’s got me talkin’ commitment and I’m dazed and confused.
What can I do for you, o sage o’the Rockies? (btw, have missed you the past few nights)

between those and your evening out…I’ll take Door #1…Escape from Marville.
not me! 🙂
but I was manipulated by your wily ways…doomed at the onset, a hopeless case…:{)
wily o … lol.
… then I think you might be right on target d! I am adept at causing myself weird injuries (remember my garage fall the other night).
Btw, have you fully recovered from that? Colorful bruises left town yet? I hope so!
Oh, and as a quick note… I started using Glucosamine Chondroitin today, which NDD was recommending for me last weekend. We’ll see how that goes.
for it to have a noticeable effect…from my experience…but I’m rather resistant to all kinds of supplements and drugs.
Well I figure that it won’t work overnight. Directions say to take 3 caps/day for 60 days, then work down, so we’ll see how it goes. Can’t hurt. Chris’ mom also swears by the stuff and she has bad problems with her knees and leg joints.
Bruises have faded … the back one is green now … 🙂
Yes, they are edible, to wit: These hand-painted white chocolate lollipops are potted in chocolate-mint ganache and cookie dirt.
IMS, O likes choco…if I’m gonna get ‘potted’, I prefer herbal remedies.
How un-American of you! That’s almost as bad as my aversion to pies, cakes and ice cream!! I bet you even have a copy of one of them nasty little red books don’t ya? (I used to… lol!)
I can take care of all that nasty chocolate and ice cream for you both … 🙂
Ice cream, pie, cake, all yours. Chocolate, not so much. But I am known to share that… 🙂
We can split d’s share … 🙂
(What’s IMS stand for.)
And dada hates chocolate, so I’ll just take them all for myself … 😛
loading r e a l l l l y s l o w…anybody out there w/ the keys for a new one?
Something is rather odd, besides slow load time… I couldn’t even get in earlier because I kept getting a “server was reset” message, though I was fine in other diaries. And when I go to roborate, the same thing happens. Only way I can get back in is to go to the end of previous cafe and click on the link to here. Something strange is goin on… who we gonna call?
Wish I had the keys, but I don’t. Maybe when I reach lower echelon leprechaun status…
and titled it late night cafe??? You got any cool pix we could use — like that warped time one? that would be cool!
Hope we don’t get in trouble…heh…that’s what they get for leaving the late shift in charge…I’ll be Bahck
Time Warp Lounge is open for business…let us pray.
Peace
